there's way too many reivews for this john fellow. looks to me like he's writing his own reivews.

i used to go to Robert Kree for years i loved it!! It had a style, comfort and a down to earth attitude.
i followed to chris chase when my original stylist i went to for years mela moved and i can't seem to find her. michael has been doing my hair since and is great!! . although i don't like the salon itself the stations seem to be too close to each other and packed too closely it's uncomfortable when you can hear the other person conversation. if anybody knows where my australian stylist moved to please let me know.

I have dark brown hair. I have made my hair blonde a couple of times in my lifetime and the saga has always streched for HOURS! The search for a colorist that can successfully color my hair is over. Paul Cucinello at Chris Chase is the ONE! First of all the salon is absolutely GORGEOUS!! It made me feel very relaxed and comfortable and at the same time like I was in the lap of luxury. I was offered a crisp glass of white wine as I sat and watched Paul's magic. He is a consummate professional and master at what he does. Not only was my color achieved in half the time, it was toned and perfected like no other colorist before. I have never been happier and will never go anywhere else. Why would I want to?

John Kovacs has been cutting my hair for the past 12 years. Even when I lived out of state for a couple of years, I would wait until I was visiting New York City to get my haircut. I trust him with any suggestions he has for my hair. My hair is thick and can get out of control easily, but John knows how to cut it so it's always easy to style at home. He is so detailed when cutting my hair that it grows out exceptionally well. Enjoy a great haircut with John Kovacs! You're guaranteed to get tons of compliments on your haircut!

John Kovacs' haircuts are so good that all my friends want to find out who styled my hair. In the past other stylists never got my hair "right"--although i couldn't tell them how to make it better. John instinctively knows what looks best on someone and gives a cut that keeps its shape no matter how long you go between cuts. His look is up to date---and I always have confidence that I'll feel good about my hair no matter what he does.

John Kovacs has been cutting my hair for the last 10 years. I live out of state - and have tried several different salons - and no one has ever gotten it right. Styling my hair has never been so easy - that's why I go back to John - no matter how far I have to travel. He is truly a great hairdresser.

After many years of loyal patronage at another place, I followed my stylist, John Kovacs, to this salon. Chris Chase Salon is worthy of John's extraordinary talents and I'm very happy with the move.

I needed a change I wanted a new color and cut. A friend of mine told me about Chris Chase Salon. So I looked it up on city search after seeing the reviews I called and made my appointment.
First of all the decor is absolutely breathetaking. And the staff are so accommadating and friendly.
I went to David for my color and to Michael for my haircutt. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. Not only was my color and haircutt beautiful but the assistant gave me the best head massage I have ever had. I thought it was reasonnably priced and would definitely recommend this salon.

I have been getting my hair cut by John Kovaks for 4 years and I have nothing but positive things to say about him. When you leave the salon, your hair will look perfect--he won't let you out of the chair until it does look amazing. He takes the time to make sure every hair is where it should be, unlike an assistant that may rush through a blow-dry, he really takes his time and makes sure the cut looks great as a finished product. He is down-to-earth and will make you feel comfortable as well. I recommend trying him out--you will be hooked!

If you are looking for a great haircut, John Kovacs is the man who'll create a look that reflects your personality and lifestyle. John listens, remembers and adjusts to your hair whims.

I'm a photographer and need a style/cut that lets me wash and finger fluff my hair, so I can shoot executives, ride a Harley and windup the evening doing the tango.

The salon is stylish and friendly. The wine option is a great idea as well.
PS I've been going to John for ten years.

The salon is beautiful and hip, and if you want your hair to be also, get a cut by John Kovacs. He has cut my hair for 10 years and I still love his cuts everytime. First of all, my hair is very fine, wispy, and would take the average cutter no longer than12 minutes to cut. John spends over and hour and lets my hair dry naturally so he can see where each wave and bend is and how the hair is best cut in accordance wtih what the hair wants to do. His philosophy is that a great cut doesn't need to be styled later. He makes my hair look magically full of body, truly. I literally get compliments on my hair all the time (daily after a fresh cut) and it is 100% John's doing. Not only is he talented, but he couldn't be any nicer of a person. Enjoy your haircut with John at this beautiful salon.

When I need a boost to my self-esteem I head to the Chris Chase Salon for a haircut by John Kovacs. A new cut by John Kovacs never fails to make me feel fabulous! What's better than the feeling of a great new haircut? I always put myself if John's hands and ask him what he thinks will work for me and I'm never disappointed. He doesn't go crazy or try to change my book, but works with me to find the style that I'm after. I feel good when I'm in John's hands and even better when I walk out the door with a new cut! I was recommended by a friend and have since recommended others. John's great reputation has landed him on TV cutting hair too. You can't go wrong with John and Chris Chase. They are in a great neighborhood too and you can treat yourself to a yummy cupcake at the cafe next door!

I travel all the way from Los Alamos, NM to New York to have John Kovacs cut my hair. If that doesn't say it all, not much else will, but I will elaborate. While in New York for a tradeshow, I decided to throw caution to the wind, walk into a well-respected salon and let the stylist have his or her way with my curly, unruly hair. I was lucky enough to get John. When I walked out of that salon, I went straight to a restaurant to meet my friends. They were speechless. Then, it was "OMG, your hair is amazing...!" That was seven years ago. No one, but John, has cut my hair since.

I have been a client of John Kovacs for three years...I travel two hours from New Jersey for one of John K's luxurious hair cuts. Having thick, wavy, long hair I found it impossible to find a hair stylist who was not intimidated by my locks. That was until I met John Kovacs. I am never disappointed with his work! He is extremely personable and talented. I have complete confidence in him...he is more than just a stylist...he is an artist!
I absolutely recommend John Kovacs @ Chris Chase Salon

I've gone to John Kovacs for cuts for a long time now - before he moved to this salon. John is absolutely meticulous -- I'm always about to go when he wants to double-check my ends and the way that everything hangs. I also echo the things other people say about how his cuts grow out -- they look great for a really long time. With respect to the salon, it is absolutely beautiful, and, for something that is 40s formal, is very homey. I live in Chelsea and ended up chatting with a bunch of my neighbors who go there over a glass of wine. Highly recommended. I also should point out that I have given both negative and postive reviews on this site previously, so this is my real opinion. Only downside is that, while I would love to play around, a lot of the treatments are way expensive.

I followed John Kovacs, my hairstylist of 7 years from his old hangout in Tribeca, to Chris Chase. John is great - my mom is a client as well.

The salon is fantastic - hip without being ridiculous (they dont sway with the music here ). And - they'll give you a glass of wine, etc.

Do yourself a favor, go.

I've been going to John for several years at the demand of another friend who was a devotee. This friend had grown tired of my complaints about my medium-long hair which had been a victem of a thinning razor cut about 3 months prior. He instantly made it look better and I was immediately hooked by his attention to detail. There is no in and ouy! He is honest about what would look best and his cuts really retain their shape (maybe a bad thing because I don't have to go that frequently!). But, after his meticulous cut, he dries to perfection and then uses a flat iron to see the lines and then touches up some more. He really gives the best haircut I've ever had and I've been to many top salons on the city. I couldn't recomend him more highly.

John Kovacs at Chris Chase gives a fabulous haircut. I have thick, curly, difficult hair that has failed the talents of many a lesser hair-stylist, but I always feel like a glamor-puss after leaving his chair!

I recently visited the Chris Chase salon for the first time after my longtime hairdresser, John Kovacs, joined the salon. I was extremely impressed with the salon- everything about it-from the decor to the friendly staff and easy going vibe. After seeing John at his former salon for nearly 10 years, I immediately felt right at home at his new location. John is by far the best hairstylist I have ever known. I would follow him anywhere in the world to get my haircut! He always knows what to do and gives amazing styling too. My hair always looks great after seeing John and the cut lasts very well and requires little maintenance on my end. As someone who works in the beauty industry, I come in regular contact with some of the industry's most famous celebrity stylists, but no one compares to John and his haircuts. People often stop me to ask where I get my haircut - and now I am happy to tell them about John's new home at Chris Chase!

John Kovacs is a genius! I have wavy hair and it seems to always stump the lesser hair stylists out there. I usually ask for a cut that works with my hair's texture, and I end up being told that I have to blowdry it and tug on it to get it to look halfway decent. But finally I listened to my sister who has been going to John for years. He is a nice boy from Connecticut, with a rebellious edge. He is soooooooo cute, and nice, and friendly, and I'm a bit shy so it's important that my stylist make me feel at home. Getting a haircut can be an intimate experience, so it's very very important that your stylist is a nice person, and John Kovacs is as nice as can be! On top of which he is very very talented. He's too good in fact; his hair cuts last FOREVER! you really don't need to go back for months, your hair will keep its shape for so long. He is very careful about how he does it and the effort pays off. I can't wait for my next haircut, it's always a great experience with him, and I feel so pretty when I'm done. John Kovacs rocks the waves, girls, I can't recommend him enough!

I have been a long time client of Robert Kree salon and recently made the move with my stylist over to Chris Chase. I must say I am very disappointed! Although I absolutely LOVE everybody and the cuts are amazing, I am very disappointed with the new salon!! It?s WAY too small, the stations are on top of one another and the decor is absolutely TACKY!!!!! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??????? Robert Kree was so beautiful, why couldn?t they replicate that salon? If the new owners happen to read this, please remove some stations and RE-DECORATE!!!! I really don?t enjoy coming there and I will consider going else where even if it means finding a new stylists!

I've been going to my stylist, John Kovacs, for years, and have followed him to Chris Chase from his previous salon downtown. He's quite simply the best. I absolutely cannot find a better hair stylist anywhere--I've traveled quite a lot and have gotten cuts from at least a dozen other stylists, who were all highly recommended by sites such as this, and the quality of cut was just no match. John is a great talent and was even featured as a makeover stylist on "Qu*er Eye for the Straight Guy"! Now that he's at this beautiful new salon, I think his work has gotten even better. I can't say enough great things about his work. Bravo!

I love my stylist Rick Shaughnessy! I recently moved to New York, was referred to Robert Kree salon, and could not be more pleased. He always does a perfect cut and color. He is friendly and down to earth and by far the best stylist I have ever had. I followed him over from Robert Kree salon and although I will definitely miss the atmosphere of Robert Kree, as long as Rick is at Chris Chase, the place is amazing to me!

I was recently introduced to the Chris Chase salon by one of the new stylists - John Kovacs. John came from a successful salon in Tribeca. I met John almost 14 years ago, in 1993, when my then girlfriend insisted that I upgrade from the $15 cuts that I had been accustomed to. At first, my reaction about going to a salon was "no, I am just a regular guy, my hair is not difficult to cut, and I don't want to spend the extra money". But I went for it, and well, 14 years later, I have become a loyal long-time customer - and I have been extremely happy with my decision. The haircuts from John are consistently excellent. Period. Also, over the years, I have relied on John to give me subtle style improvements from time to time - in fact, John just usually makes these changes and I don't even realize it. The staff at the Chris Chase salon - at the front desk and the girl that washed my hair (and was terrific) - all appear to be very nice, low-key, and there is no pressure. Very nice salon! One last thing, John's wife just gave birth to a cute little boy who has a full head of hair just like John!

Not only was it a beautiful salon, but everyone was awesome! I had the BEST hair cut and color here!!! Melissa Ursy was my stylist... She is hands down one of the best hair/color stylist I've ever encountered and she's really nice too. She makes you feel like a million bucks when you walk out of there. I told exactly what I wanted, but I allowed her to make some decisions on her own- the final product was ultra professional and it looks so AMAZING- worh every penny... I can't wait to go back! Go with Melissa and you will not be disappointed!

I can't say enough good about Chris Chase.. I have been there twice since its birth, and cannot wait to go back again.. I've been a patron of a particular 8th floor salon in the Meatpacking District, and just started to think that my appointment running 30 minutes behind, being overcharged and not being treating with appreciation were just part and parcel of a New York high-end salon experience. Chris Chase BASHED those feelings of mine over the head, and I cannot even describe what a pleasant time I had. I got to my appointment a few minutes early, and they showed me where to change and then I was already getting my hair washed 1 minute before my appointment even started! The salon is absolutely gorgeous, what a gem in Chelsea, it totally fits in with, and perhaps even trumps, any gallery or chic restaurant in the area. Beautiful.. That chandelier in the middle is breathtaking! This is all before I even MENTION my haircut.. Now.. my haircut: I described to Cody what I was "going for", and what I thought had to be done to achieve it. He totally understand what I was going for, but recommended a different way of getting there. HE WAS RIGHT! Not only was he right, he was right on the money! He described to me how the razor-cuts I had been getting were damaging to my hair, and gave me THE MOST PERFECT scissor cut I've ever had. I have very curly hair, and so I rarely feel SO comfortable in the chair of a stylist.. but Cody explained what he was doing and when he finished blowing out my hair, I felt gorgeous and like a MOVIE STAR! A few weeks later and my hair still looks amazing, I can honestly say it's the best haircut I've ever had in my life! When I was leaving, I was introduced to one of the owners of the salon, Mitch, who could not have been any nicer. Everyone in the place was so welcoming and warm and I cannot wait to go back! Thank you to Cody, Mitch and everyone else who helped me at Chris Chase! See you soon!

Pros: Gorgeous place, great people, AMAZING HAIRCUT!

Cons: Next to BIlly's Bakery (feel too tempted to get cupcakes!)

I have been following my hair colorist, Shane, for nearly ten years now because he rocks. I get sooooo many compliments on my hair after he does it every time I leave the salon. I've followed him from Aveda to Oscar Bond to Anagen (which wasn't so great, except for him and that garden). So you might imagine how excited I was for him when he said he was moving further west to Chris Chase Salon, near the gallery area on Ninth Ave. (though it's a little bit of a shelpp for me) But Chris Chase is beautiful, ultra modern, and comfortable. When I walked in the door I was awe struck. The waiting area (and chandelier) is reason enough to go back time and again. When I sat down at Shane's station, where the lighting was so amazing (100% better than Anagen, thank you) he asked me if I wanted wine, I felt like royalty. Then when I got my hair shampooed, the sink was adjustable to my neck (heaven), I've never seen anything like it, it was the first time I actually enjoyed laying back in the bowl, not to mention my shampoo, the girl knew what she was doing. In the end, I looked like a goddess. Thank you Shane!

Pros: They have hired some of the best colorist and stylist in New York

Cons: Bring cash... you can't put tips on the card

A girlfriend of mine and I just recently went to Chris Case on Friday and it was AMAZING! The salon was TOP NOTCH and they treated us so great! The salon was so impressive, clean, inviting and relaxing! We were in there for a long time and they did not rush us out at all! The staff was super nice to us all afternoon and Kristine Hahn was FABULOUS! I have gotten so many compliments on my hair and I love my cut and blowdry! You must go see her!

When I called Christopher Stanley and found out my colorist Paul Cucinello had left I almost had a heart attack! Thankfully, the receptionist gave me the name and phone number to Chris Chase. Go Paul!!! Let me tell you -WHAT AN UPGRADE! Chris Chase is gorgeous!! I couldn't believe that I was going from the old salon (which looked like a college art studio) to THIS- a sleek, high-end, modern & *glamourous* new salon. When I walked in they offered me a glass of wine and took my coat, showed me around the salon, brought me down a beautiful white staircase with a HUGE chandelier and showed me where to get changed. When I came upstairs there were Paul and Jenna happy and excited to see me. Needless to say the color is PERFECT with Paul everytime and the blowout with Jenna had me feeling so good (so did the wine! I had to indulge and stop by Billy's Bakery next door for a cupcake!!!) The products they use are so much better here (Kerastase) and so is the overall vibe. If you know how good Paul is you know that the experience is way better in a place like THIS. And I'm paying the same price! I can't WAIT to go back.
