It's a breath of fresh air to have brunch in this place! It makes summer seem not so far away after all. Sunday brunches are great with unlimited mimosas, screwdrivers, and bloody marys! Our party really enjoyed the food too. But my favorite thing was the hip, lively vibe among the young crowd. Everyone was in a party mood and that's exactly what my friends and I were looking for!

Pros: Fun atmosphere

Cons: Tight space

You get what you pay for. The price is cheap and so is the food. The included bloody mary or mimosa burns on the way down like cheap liquor should. The crab cake benedict doesn't really have a lot of flavor, but at least it's offered. If you're in a bind and need a brunch spot this would do, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here.

The staff here is so friendly and nice! They have a lot of fun drink and food specials (toss the boss, 2 for 1, supersize your drinks, and $10 shark steaks on Sundays), and the food was very fresh and delicious. It's an unpretentious crowd and we got great, quick service. Someone else said the portions were small and the food was overpriced, but I was full after my meal (and I eat a lot! LOL) and they have a Beach Blanket special where you get an entree, a glass of wine and dessert for $20. Seriously, it can't get any cheaper than that in Manhattan.

Pros: Friendly staff, great value, good food

Cons: Can't think of any

.

I love this place! $15 gets you a good, filling meal and all the mimosas/screwdrivers u can drink! Service is extremely friendly and its designed as a cool, Aussie beach. Wait can get really long depending on what time u go- helpful hint- they take reservations for 6 or more. I think u can sneak them for less though. They don't really rush u, but if u REALLY wanna take advantage of the unlimited part I say their brother restaurant Sunburnt Cow is a little better.

A group of friends and I celebrated Australia Day at Bondi last night. The waitresses were unbelievably nice and friendly, the drinks were awesome (Bondi Marg = YUM!) and the food was good too! It's a really fun atmosphere. It's a perfect place to hang out with friends. I will definitely go back to Bondi.

Bondi is one of the friendliest bars on the LES. The staff is down right lovely. The food and drink are quality - but the portions are very small and completely over priced. Simple fish and chips will cost you a minimum of $15. A grape fruit juice and vodka is $9! It's a relaxed, casual back place, so the prices are surprising.

.

A friend recommended the place. I had the lumb crab wraps (delicious!) and two different oyster shots, both were unique and tasted great! I love french fries and this place had fries with a ceviche dip or something, so yummy! My friend ordered the fish and chips, he said the batter was so light. The fish was also nice and flakey. The waitress was also very friendly and helpful with our menu choices.

I've been here about five times now and each experience has been good. The food hasn't ever been disappointing and the staff are always friendly. I love the fish and chips (the chips are fantastic!) and their burger with 'the lot'. The only complaint I have is last time I went there for the brunch with unlimited drinks, the Greyhounds didn't taste like they had any alcohol which I'm sure they did not as I felt completely fine after downing three in less than an hour! Other than that, it's a fun casual place with good Aussie food.

I recently wen't to Bondi Road for a friend's birthday party, and I must say it was a terrific experience. We were a group of ten people and were sat at a large communal table in the front of the restaurant. It was really nice to be able to see evryone around one table and it gave us a chance to talk to one another face to face. There were two huge fish bowel with muticolor fish swimming around in them. The server brought us a round of drinks on the house so we were able to do a b-day shot. The food was amazing! I had the fish and chips and the portions were huge and tasty, the chips were cripy and delicious. There was a great party vibe in there as there was a D.J spinning great dance tracks and it really got the place pumping. All in all it was a great time and I will definitely go back.

Went to Bondi Road last monday night for a quick dinner with my boyfriend, and we had a great time. We were a little hesitant to try the place after reading some unpleasant reviews, but clearly they were completely untrue.
The friendly aussie waitress recommended I try the daily special (some strange fish from hawaii), and I was speachless after the first bite... the most amazing meal i've had in the city in months! My boyfriend had fried fish and chips, which too was lovely. The service was prompt, but relaxed and genuine... those australians are a fun, welcoming bunch.

After this experience, Bondi road has to be one of my favourite restaurants in the city.

A friend and I went into Bondi Road last night and it was pretty full...we were hesitant to stay because we thought we'd have to wait forever but the hostess offered us seats at the bar so we decided to stay. We ate great food! Nice variety, light and tasty dishes. Bartender extremely friendly!!! We enjoyed it so much I am booking my husband's 40th birthday party there next month!

g'day, i'm the owner of bondi road. this last review really p****s me off. bondi road just passed its department of health inspection with flying colors. not that easy to do with the current crackdown on new york restaurants. to say my restaurant is unclean is a gross misrepresentation and irresponsible. there is construction going on in the apartment above which has shaken a few things up, we're not happy about it either and are exterminating accordingly.
for the record fish & chips costs $15, the cheapest entre is $12. we are not a flashy restaurant, we do our best to serve good food in a relaxed fun environmnet at a reasonable price.
as far as not being available, i answer the phones mon-fri, 9-5. i'm always available so if you have complaints or issues please call.
cheers heathe

The staff was great - very friendly and fun. I went with a group of 6 people, and we all got the basic fish and chips. The food was ok, nothing bad but certainly not worth the expensive prices for fried, standard fare. The worst came when I was signing the already way over priced bill at the bar, which is right next to the kitchen. A HUGE c*ckroach came running over the top of the bar, from the kitchen area, and across the bar-top. I jumped back and the bartender ran around and quickly smashed it under the front of the bar and swept it away. It is was disgusting and horrible. I tried to contact the management afterward, and I've never heard back. Except for the nice wait staff, this place is not worth even a look.

As an ex-pat Aussie I had high hopes for this place, I am very very sad to say that I have thrown up tastier food. You can send me all the free shots in the world but it will not make up for the awful service you have to endure and the even worse food. I hope and pray that this was just a bad night for them but in all honesty, the food was absolute rubbish. A trendy setting and a "relaxed" attitude, my God, I have absolutley nothing good to say about this place, even with the owner coming to my table spinning the most untrue stories I've ever heard, he would do much better making sure his kitchen staff had a clue as to what they were doing. They seem to think their customers are absolute morons who will believe anything. At your own risk people.

walked into bondi on a busy night a week or so ago .
A cute freckled aussie waitress welcomes us, big smiles, and continually great service. She gave us some fruity shots as soon as we sat down
after sussing out our personal tastes she suggested the barromundi grilled (all fish freshly arriving from aust a couple times a week!!), with a side of their potato scallops and the vegies of the night... telling us it was a good combination of tastes ! right she was !
we were both very impressed with the quality of food and service.
To the waitresses advice we came back for brunch the next sunday. Unlimited drinks (which were frequently topped ! )and delicous food. Great relaxed atmosphere, and again, great service. Bondi rocks for brunch and dinner!... also , love the pictures on the walls. Felt like we were at bondi beach.

Very disappointing newcomer. I love 8 Mile Creek and Ruby's so was hoping this place was more of the same, but no. Service was friendly but our 2 waitresses kept grabbing things off our table as we were eating and asking us the same questions twice w/o coordinating w/ each other. The food? Probably the most bland meal I have had in NYC. The waitress highly recommended the grouper which came on a plate w/o any seasoning and was entirely barebones w/o any flavor. My friends veggie burger was luke wam and had an egg on it? The best food here was the french fries (which were taken away w/o asking by 1 of our 2 over eager watresses before we were finished). Worst part of the experience was a ridiculously loud heater that kept clanking ever 20 seconds and sounded like a hammer pounding on steel. 1 of our watresses apologized for the loud heater, but c'mon ...

The food was amazing and the staff was so friendly. Definately try the Sunburn cocktail and the Banana and Pineapple Fritters dessert. The baramundi fish was also great and it literally melts in your mouth. Will definately plan on returning. :)

After reading the positive reviews here we checked it out on Friday night. It was busy, and despite not having reservations, the host/owner promised to get us a seat within 10-15 mins. He gave us each a shot on the house and we ordered a beer while reminiscing about a trip to the real Bondi two years ago. We were seated in 10 minutes and the waitress gave us the rundown on everything on the menu. LOVED the shrimp appetizer and the chunks of garlic in the sauce. We had two types of grilled fish, Barramundi and Sea Bass (loved the Barramundi). The chips we're really good as well. My oyster shooter "straight up" tasted a little sandy. Presentation is very simple - no fancy sauces on the fish. Very nice. Waitress got us another round of shots at the end of the meal as well. Would love if they could get one or two other Aussie beers on tap - especially Coopers.

this place was awesome, like taking plane out of here!
great service, they said hello and put ashot in our hand on arrival.
really wonderful time.
i had the barramundi grilled to perfection some head on shrimp to start
my friend shared and had the bondi salad some lettuces with avocado and mango
and seared tuna with the most delicious dressing.
the shots got us in the mood for a little drinking and their cocktails rocked
check out the silver surfer.

Great idea, poorly executed! Everything was great at Bondi Road except for the food, which I think is important for a restaurant! Or maybe I'm just old fashion. My "companion" and I were greeted kindly by the staff and given some free shots. It was some girly drink but what the hell, it was free ya know!!! So after that we were really in love with the place and thought that they would have to go out of their way to mess this up...then the food came out! Had the surf and turf and it was dreadful. The shrimp were overcooked, the kangaroo was totally bland and I've had better vegetables on Rikers Island!!! My "companion" was shocked to see her fish came out grilled after she had selected fried. I had to refrain her from starting an authentic Bondi style race riot. Ya see she's very picky about her food. So I had to listen to her complain about that for the rest of the night, thanks again bondi road. Her fries were actually very good, but after comparing it with the rest of the culinary treasures scattered around our table we were elated just to have something edible! So in conclusion what have we learned, other than I'll never be a restaurant critic? It takes a little bit more than chic decor and trendy looking staff to make an establishment worth while. Put a little more effort into the food and less time into your silly accents and male hair care products and you may be on your way to a halfway decent place.

I thought I'd never recover from the loss of Cafe Juanita but one trip to Bondi Road has cured me. For a casual meal the regular menu lets you mix and match and keep prices reasonable while the tasting menu ($35) really gives you a sense of the chef. The "classic shrimp cocktail" is deliciously mayonnaisy (but could use a bit of salt or lemon juice) and the summer crab wrap is heavenly. Fish - breaded, fried, or grilled, is fresh and perfectly prepared. As for sides - go for the chips (fries) as they are perfect and the potato salad is somehow light and has just enough dressing to hold together without being gloppy. The green papaya & tomato and roasted corn & orzo are also great - perfect summer accoutrements. The Lamingtons cake dessert (sponge cake rolled in chocolate & coconut) is worth leaving room for. It is light and delicate and full of flavor.

The only misses? The sweet chili relish was surprisingly bland and didn't add anything to the fish. Also mom's Pavlova dessert didn't wow me- the mini-cakes stuck to the plate with gummy tenacity and it was over run by whipped cream (albeit very delicious fresh whipped cream). Finally, the music was a bit too loud. Given the great service and friendly staff it felt a little silly to constantly say "what?" as they patiently explained the ordering (you fill out your order on a paper menu and hand it to the server) and chatted about the drinks (a great selection of Australian beer by the bottle as well as some nice wines). I am sure they will work out the kinks in the next few weeks.

All in all it was a great meal and I will eagerly go back & bring friends.
