I have come here numerous times to groom my cat and they have done an excellent job on her. Plus the prices are lower than most other grooming places.

15 gallon fish-tank rang up three dollars higher than marked price. I didnt notice until I looked over receipt a few days later. Shame on me for not checking receipt in the store. No big deal, honest mistake, right? I returned to store to address the issue, expecting perhaps a store credit, which I would probably have used right there and then. Not only did the owner refuse any refund or credit, but he utterly and inexplicably denied any error at all, even when I showed him the same 15 gallon tank on his shelf for the lower price. He then proceeded to call the police (really) in order to get me and my seven year-old son out of the store when I refused to accept his frantically irrational logic. I waited for them to arrive, and they were less than impressed with his ramblings.
Perhaps the least shrewd commercial decision ever. We are talking three dollars here. After my relatively pleasant initial purchase, I had intended to return for food and supplies for my new gerbils. The employees seemed like decent folks. They were helpful, smiling and eager to leave a good impression with a new customer. He kept his three bucks, but lost potentially a few hundred from me.
As point of accuracy, I did notice on my initial visit that gerbil vitamin drops had expiration date of 2009. Simply chose not to purchase at the time. I considered pointing this out on a later visit, as a helpful and friendly gesture. I worked in retail and understand how small things can get overlooked. No big deal, honest mistake, right?

I brought my 11 month old Havanese puppy, that I just took ownership of. She was completely matted, and in poor shape. I knew she needed to be shaved, and I was expecting a very scrawny looking puppy! I was told they would take their time,

AWFUL!!! DO NOT GIVE THESE THIEVES YOUR BUSINESS!! My husband purchased a $75 baby cockatiel on Sunday 7/31 @ 8PM for my birthday. The bird proceeded to screech part of Monday and all of Tuesday AM so I brought it back to the store on Tuesday afternoon @ 3PM. According to the printed receipt I had, there are no refunds - only store credit with original receipt (no time limit specified).

I was informed by an employee @ the cash register of a 24-hour policy on small animals and shown a small sign barely visible behind a pile of dog food near the door as proof that no refunds or credit would be given. I asked to speak to a manager so she called someone named Matthew, who refused to speak to me and told her to inform me of their 24-hour policy.

She told me to come back tomorrow if I wanted to speak with the manager in person; however, I said that I wouldn't put the bird through the whole trauma of being put into a box and driven around Brooklyn again. I asked her to please get the owner or manager on the phone so I could speak to them myself. She called Matthew back and he hung up on her while she was asking him to please speak to me.

At this point, to spare the poor bird any further trauma, I left it with the store employee along with a note and my # for Matthew to please call me to resolve the issue of store credit. It has been 3 days and no one has called.

This business is deceptive with its return policies (printing one thing on the receipt and another on a small, hidden sign behind a door) and very rude to its customers. If they would've done right by me and issued a store credit, I probably would've spent even more than the original $75. Instead, they lost a customer and earned an enemy. BOTTOM LINE: Give your business/hard-earned $$ to someone else!!

I've been going to Frankie's for the last two years, and so far I have not had the negative experiences that some of the people who have written reviews here have had. I will admit that sometimes the staff can use some polishing in the customer service department, but I sometimes think they're short staffed and has to mind a big pet store on top of taking care of the menagerie of animals there.

Frankie has always taken good care of my dog, a little guy who has major attitude and aggression issues. Many trainers have thrown in the towel with this dog - and I was desperate for a groomer who could take care of him. Frankie has been the only one who stepped up to the plate and never failed to do a great job. Frankie showed great compassion in handling him with a firm hand (NOT abusive, I assure you) and good control. Nails, shave, ears have always been done great - and remember, my dog is quite resistant of handling. The dog is now quite fond of Frankie, willingly going into his arms and the other helpers - now would an abused dog want to stay with his abusers? I think not.

I also have had the chance to look at Frankie's basement to take a peek at how he grooms the dogs. It is clean, and they let the dogs play around out of cages after their baths - if they are well-behaved. I couldn't believe my dog was out there playing with other small guys, happy as a clam. But I guess Frankie has all of them under great control so this situation could take place. Frankie has also taken my dog in for "daycare" during bath days, so he stays there playing until I pick up after work. Frankie has even accommodated me when I leave a little snack for my dog on these days.

All I can say is, use your judgment when choosing your pet's groomer. If you don't feel comfortable with the place, then move on. But I do think that FFF is worth a visit. Let's just not immediately accept snarky comments some reviewers have left on this website as gospel truth.

Cons: Can use some help in the customer service department

I didn't like the place it was kind of creepy inside. A lot of men who don't speak English work there. I laughed when the owner told me he was Italian, my parents are from Italy not the middle east. Why would he claim to be Italian is still a mystery to me. Any how it's not real pet shop in the way I would think of one. Please hire someone who knows about pets.

We purchased a case of dog food when we returned it we were told not to come back among other things. This how he treats humans, I can't even start to imagine how he treats animals. Frankie, the owner, is real nasty guy. I will be going to Happy Pets a couple of block down for my future dog food purchases and to Posh Pets for everything else. At least they appreciate the business.

They sold us a case of expired dog food. When we tried to return it they only had expired dog food. Would not return money and blamed us for not be reasonable. They finally got the dog food from local stores and told us not to come back. One of the owners "Frankie", I know that is not his real name but, that is what he said his name was, is a real piece of work. This guy has no concept of the meaning of customer service. He treats his human customers badly so I can't imagine what he does to animals. This guy, Frankie, is rude and not very bright. Do yourself a favor and go else where. It is not worth the hassle of doing business with this guy.

I do most of my shopping for my cat here. The staff is extremely helpful and always deliver on time. They even know my order when I call! They have a great selection and the store is always clean. The prices are good- they could be a bit lower but it's a mom and pop and I believe in keeping my busness in the neighborhood whenever I can.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with the staff at this store. The owner, Franco, goes out of his way to make us feel welcome and takes extremely good care of our dog, a German Shepherd. When we have the dog groomed, Franco will "babysit" him a few extra hours, or for the entire day. The grooming staff has always been very gentle with our dog, who, being a big, strong puppy, can be a handful. Our dog enjoys going to the store, whether it be to be groomed, or just to shop, and the staff always makes a fuss over him, even if they see us on the street. Animal instincts don't lie---and our dog, and my husband and I trust Franco and his staff and entrust our dog, who is our "baby", to their loving care. Franco also recommended St. Francis Animal Hospital to us, and they have been a Godsend, after we had a horrible experience with our cat at another local vet. We have nothing but praise for Franco and thank him for everything, and will continue to be loyal customers, and friends.

Fins Fur 'N Feathers of Brooklyn filed for a dismissal of felony animal abuse charges regarding the case of a 3 pound Burmese cat being beaten in grooming and the motion was denied by the criminal court system, which found that there was sufficient evidence of animal animal abuse against the defendants. The trial will commence in July. Do not support this store unless the abuser is cleared from all charges or fired from the establishment. He is still there working with animals while the charges are pending!! That's CRAZY!!!!

I visted the store once with my persian to be groomed, but I didn't go through with it. It was in the early summer, she gets a little matted so I have her get a lion cut in spring/summer time. When I went to Fins Fur Feathers I met Besir and asked him about the grooming. He said it was $60 up front, I would have to pay first, then leave Smokey there. I asked if I could wait for her and he said no, it would be a few hours.. so I asked if I could just come back with her at an appointment time and he told me no, they don't do it that way. I asked if I could be present and he said, no not for cats - only for dogs- you can be present. He said they do the cats down stairs in the basement because it's quieter and less stressful for the cat. I didn't feel right about it so I declined. Made an appointment with Paws and Claws on BR Ave. They did not require payment up front and they did let me stay and wait for her. I don't know how true the ABC news report is but I saw it on TV. I wouldn't be comfortable knowing that the accused groomer is still working there while charges were pending. Smokey can be aggressive sometimes and I wonder if they didn't harm Nusha while trying to control her. Maybe it was an accident and unintentional abuse, still I wouldn't chance it. Also that they told the News they didn't remember was alarming. I just think it is wierd to charge up front and take them in the basement. I wouldn't take a chance until/unless they are cleared of the charges in court. Out of curiosity I called the Brooklyn DA and he definately was arrested by the ASPCA but the case is still pending in court and has not gone to trial. It was postponed twice in March and April.

His name is not Besir....It's Bechir..and he is accused of horrible crimes towards animals. It really bothers me to see all of these reviews defending them while there are 2 VERIFIABLE indictments of animal cruelty against the owner on record. Verifiable! He was read his charges in court today, and then returned to work at the store. Shouldn't he at least be forbidden to touch the animals until after he is found innocen? PETA thinks so. They issued a press statement today. But you all don't care. There is no money hungry lawsuit...no one is suing for any money......these are criminal charges pending in Kings County Court.
The Humane Society of the United States and the ASPCA are investigating other allegations of cruelty against the store including accusations about the owner, Bechir, putting puppies in a freezer. Argue all you want, the information is out there - public information - just call! This is a money driven business. Aside from the horrific allegations of abuse, any store that sells puppy mill dogs....and they are puppy mill dogs.... is in the business purely for profit.

And as for the reviewer who says to RedSiobhan that she is obviously close to the owners to be able to disclose such information, indicates that she too is close to the owners, and validates said information, Yes? Food for thought.

Oh, and to the poster who says "WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE", WE as in the owners, goes on to say to that Red Siobhan is a "RAZZA SVERGOGNATA" A Shameless Race, that's a pretty derogatory thing to say, do they hate the Irish?

I have been a customer at Fins, Fur, and Feathers since they opened and I am surprised by what I am reading here. Please allow me to share my experience with you.

My dog is a 70 pound pit-bull/shepherd mix and FF&F is the only place willing to groom her. She is a very good dog, but very nervous and excitable. When she goes for a grooming what usually happens is that becuase she gets so nervous she soils her crate. Most groomers have asked me not to bring her back. Not so with FF&F. I told them in advance that this might happen - they told me not to worry. Even if she did mess, it wasn't a big deal, it could be cleaned up! They allowed me to bring my dog for a grooming at the end of the day when there were no other dogs to be groomed and it was quieter downstairs. And you know what? She was fine! No mess, no problems! Hooray! I even bring her back to have her nails clipped from time to time and I can't believe how gentle Basir (I think that is how you spell his name - he is one of the owners) is with her. Usually it takes three people to cut her nails - two to hold her down and one to clip. Yet Basir does it right in front of me and he doesn't have to wrestle with her or anything.

FF&F sells Merrick, which is all my dog will eat, and I am thrilled that they have all of the flavors.

In my experience, the owners care very much about the animals. The area in the back and in the windows is always clean and the animals are vibrant and happy. Did you know that they even hand-raise birds? Several months ago they were hand feeding the most beautiful African Grey chick and all of their cockatiels are hand fed also. I've been wanting to get another bird for some time now and will certainly buy from FF&F.

I suggest that those who are worried about the abuse allegation call the ASPCA for more information, but please remember that in our sue-happy society everyone is still innocent until proven guilty.
I will continue to shop here and send my dog here for grooming.

Pros: It is clear to me that theowners are pet lovers and pet owners themselves.

Cons: Difficult to find nearby parking - but they do help me carry everything to the car!

There are not enough stars to give the loving, compassionate, loyal and friendly owners and staff of this establishment. I have been a customer since the doors opened. I also have purchased a healthy great dog from them. They offer amazing boarding options which i regulary take them up on. I have two dogs and trust them with all my heart. They offer great grooming and Besir is constantly full of ideas to help train them. I cant say enough about laura and besir. It is a shame that two neighborhood people open the best pet store in Bay Ridge and this is what they have to deal with. But my advice is to go in and see for yourself , you will not be sorry. The 2 owners go out of there way to make the customer feel taken care of and comfortable. My dogs are so happy and well taken care of when they are there. I love them and my dogs Joey and Milo ADORE them!!! Keep up the good work Laura and Besir because the truth always comes out.

Pros: Great grooming, boarding, friendly and knowlegable staff, late hours , great selection

Cons: people making false accusations and looking to make a quick buck on a law suit

In responce to redsiobhan you are a mean, cold hearted serpent.I know the owners of F,F, and F's and you may say demeaning things about her weight but she is beautiful .The one who is pure evil is you and the people who created you. They are loving ,caring and dedicated and it is obvious from what you wrote that you are very close to them to disclose such information.I would take a better look in the mirror because I am more than sure that you are definitly no prize. You don't even come into the owners league.Remember that ENVY is one of the seven deadly sins

To answer the last post, the cat looked good on tv because the incident occurred 8 months ago. I've seen the actual ASPCA indictment as well as other complaints filed with the ASPCA and it doesn't look good. Of course the owner lets your kids play the animals...duh! Despite the friendly way he treats you, because you are a customer who comes in once a week, that man is pure evil. This is not a mom and pop shop like Vinny's or Happy Pets or Skooby Doo or Posh Pets....these are the types of store that make a neighborhood..... they are part of this community all locas. This was a project purchased for him by his big fatfilthy rich wife to keep him busy during the day. He thought it be a challenge to come in and destroy posh pets and happy pets. She couldn't care less about the business and he couldn't care less about animals. There were already 3 charges filed against them for abuse in grooming, and there are allegations of a much more serious nature regarding his ...disposal....of unsellable animals. For those saying lets wait and see after the trial...I say yes....let's wait and see! You defenders will feel like fools for supporting this creep and I hope you recognize how your patronize supports his cruel enterprise.

I have never wrote a review but after reading what some of you people wrote I felt compelled to weigh in. I go to that store about once a week and have never had a complaint.

The owner I met (Basheer i think) is a perfect gentleman. He always lets my kids play with the animals while I get my stuff. They look forward to going there as if we were taking a trip to the zoo. Week after week the same animals are there and never look abused. If they were abused one would expect to see sullen animals that do not interact with people and may even be aggressive with children. On the contrary, they are always playful, happy, & healthy. I can't possibly believe that he is capable of harming what he makes a livelyhood from.

I saw that ridiculous news segment from ABC. Anyone with common sense can see that this fool is lying. That cat looked pretty healthy on TV! Very photogenic! I don't know what his angle is, but if he is looking for a free pay-day, he should have picked on a big corporation instead of a local mom & pop shop.

I hope that ABC and everyone else lining up to crucify these hardworking people have the decency to apologize with the same enthusiasm once they are exonerated.

Hardworking, tax paying store owners like Fins, Furs, Feathers are what neighborhoods are made of. For them to suffer unnecessarily is the only crime being committed here.

All I have been seeing are all these human abusers especially you IKRAUNZ either you are the couple who live down the block from the pet store and it's your deranged wife who stated this because I was on the street the day she made the nasty remark to the owner and who has been giving them problems from the day they rented the store because the whole neighborhood knows about you. Or your that lying sack of ****
who went to the news and the paper because any educated person who is born in this country knows that the courts or the aspca would not go to publicize this. This is a conspiracy between the vet and the owners. of the catJust to let the owners of F,F and F know that there are some people who believe in them. And by the way don't be a real lowlife and attack the other members opinion's

I'm amazed about the cat beating and the Review Wars on CitySearch. I have no idea if it's true or not but I too have heard a lot of rumors about the way they treat animals there. I wouldn't bring my cats to be groomed anywhere that had these kinds accusations until they were cleared in court and I would no longershop there either. I have shopped at Fins Fur & Feathers a few times, and my only real complaint was that there was no customer service. I hear a few postive reviews about service and i expect that if you spend a lot of money there they treat you well, if you buy a dog or shop often, but for me as I only went a few times , they do not greet you or smile or say hello at the door...and they get annoyed if you have a question. There is also a slight language barrier. Anyway, I get my cat food and litter at the commissary so I don't really have to shop in stores much but when I want a toy or something I go to Happy Pets. I like that they are locals who live and work and are active in the Bay Ridge community and yes I like that they are Americans...so what!

Monty says the store goes above and beyond for the pet owner? I don't know what you do to get such great service Monty......oh right you say the allegations are "truly false" same thing you said before.....eh Monty. No one but an idiot would say "truly false" but anyway.....

I can totally believe that abuse occurred there...the owner..the skinny swarthy guy was verbally abusive to me! I went in to ask him questions about where the puppies come from, asked for the name of the breeder, used the HSUS checklist, and he called me a mf and raised his fist and spat at me. I left. Then I see him walking his dogs on 94th a week or more later and cursed at me again, spat at me again. Oh yeah, these are puppy mill pups for sure....and this guy has got a nasty nasty temper. Very nasty.

I am appauled about the alleged allegations as well, it is truly false! This store goes above and beyond for the pet and the customer. From my own personal experience, I have two very large German Shephard dogs that sometimes I am not able to get out or they are not easy to handle. The owner will actually pick them up for me and physically carry them from my car into the store and back again when they are done. They love my dogs and my dogs are always happy to go and love the store! I will continue to shop this store, they have a wonderful selection and are always willing to get in what they dont stock for the customer. I will continue my patronage and visit this store as for myself and my pets love to go! Dont believe everything you read, I sure don't.

I don't know about the animal abuse but if it made the news and Dr. Appel spoke out I wouldn't chance it. Dr. Appel is very reputable.

My only experience at FF"n"F was horrible. I was completely ignored and when I asked for help about food for my dog who has allergies the guy behind the counter just shooed me away to continue his conversation, which I overheard, he was offeriing another customer $300 to let him breed her pug with his beagle..seemed shady to me and just the fact that they were so rude in there turned me off completely. Also i would rather shop in a store that does not sell animals all together.

Now I go to place by Laundry King 4th Ave and Marine. It's a smaller store with a smaller selection but the guy there Jason is very helpful . He had us try Petguard and that didn't work out so he refunded our money and had us try Wellness. He offered to special order a specific kind of Wellness for allergic dogs, but we tried out the Super 5 and so far, no allergic reactions!

To all these bashers who are heartless and miserable I would like to say I am not ashamed to say that I am a close friend to the owners of F,F and F's.I can say that they have never ever said anything negative about the surrounding pet stores in the community. They are hard working devoted people like the others whose main passion are the animals and to try and portray them as evil animal abusers is unheard and devastating to them.I would also get your facts straight because they do work with several animal organizations to place abandoned animals and have given food donations to these organizations. They would never discard of any of their animals as was said but if you were not blind with your hatred of them you would know they have given away numerous puppies into loving homes for FREE.
In reference to the allegations and that is all they are.The owner of the so called cat could not even look into the camera and all I saw him do was snicker and giggle behind his cat. That doesn't look very honest to me.He is dishonest, false and beyond everything else a big LIAR.I don't need to go into details and I respect the owners wishes to remain quite but they will come out and respond when the time is right to clarify and let the public know their side of the story. As for the "respectable vet" he has caused them more heartache that is inconceivable and on that subject they will let the public know. But the old saying is PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE and everything will be clarified and rectified in due time. They are and will always hold my utmost respect for the love, caring, dedication and compassion they have for their pets and the pets of their customers.

NY Daily News and Eyewitness News covered Fins Furs "n" Feathers and there are serious cruelty charges. A groomer there beat man's cat half to death, and he is still there. No one should support this business run by animal abusers! There are several pet supply options to choose from in the area. Posh Pet of Bay Ride sells high end pet products and accessories and does not sell animals, Happy Pets sells food and supplies and does animal rescue and adoptions. They are within blocks of Fins Fur "N' Feathers so please take the extra steps and boycott these horrible people at Fins Fur Feathers.

If you love your pet and don't want it harmed, please check the internet for a really disturbing story about this store. Groomer is being charged with viciously beating a cat and is facing a year in jail when he goes to trial next month. This person is still working there. He has not been fired!!! Enough said.

This is primarily a response to the other reviews from my experiences at Fins, Furs & Feathers and A World of Pets.

Fins, Furs, & Feathers is BY FAR the lesser of two evils between the two shops. If you live in Bay Ridge in the 80s to 90s and are wondering which one to shop at, I strongly advise you to choose FF&F. Walking into AWOP is like walking into a used car lot. The salespeople there will try to hustle you as they are obviously paid on commission. The only time I ever walked into there, I was looking for a pet carrier to bring my puppy to the vet in. A young lady asked how big my pup was, and I said 5 pounds and would be maxing out at 10-14. After "carefully thinking it over" and deciding what would be the "very best" for my dog, she pointed to one of the largest and the single nicest looking carrier and also the only one that did not have its price shown. ("He needs room to grow" -into what, a bear?) So after that expected surprise, I said thank you and walked out.

While I understand the accusations against the owner of FF&F, he has always been nice whenever I've been in the store. The very first time I shopped there to get food and supplies for my puppy, he asked about the pup while I was checking out. The second time I had ever walked into the store, which was also at least a week later than the first, he had greeted me and asked how my puppy was doing. The next time I was in, there was a lady in front of my buying a bunch of stuff for her dogs. I could tell that she frequented there often from the conversation with the owner. When she was done checking out, he threw an extra chew toy in her bag. It's the things like that that drastically set this store apart from AWOP. The staff at FF&F do not try to con you and are actually helpful.

The only other pet store I've been in in Bay Ridge is Vinney's Pet Shop (on my way to Bay Ridge Animal Hospital) and that store was very nice! It's located on Bay Ridge Ave, between 4th and 5th.

Fins Fur & Feathers has a fabulous inventory of pet products and staff will go out of their way to order you anything they may not carry. This is a true mom and pop shop run by a couple that loves animals. Puppies & kittens are happy and healthy and animal inventory is appropriately small (great sign). Most importantly, they keep animals as long as it takes to find them homes (even if it's 7 or 8 months!) and begin leash and potty training with older puppies to make them more appealing to customers. The owner actually GAVE the super in my building a yellow lab for FREE. Why? They weren't selling and the owner knew my super had 2 labs that he loves and is a great dad to them. Now he has 3! Is that amazing!? Buying a puppy or a kitten at a pet store as opposed to a shelter or directly from a breeder is not the best. It keeps puppy mills and irresponsible breeders in business. That being said, if you're going to do this anyway, this is the ONLY place in Bay Ridge that is kind to its pets and keeps them clean, healthy and happy. I thought I was a shelter only person, but must admit that I purchased a puggle from FF&F. Though I had two dogs already, she absolutely stole my heart and I knew the owners and business well enough by then to trust that they are THE BEST. So I gave in and took my little princess home with a mostly clear conscience. She is now a healthy and happy nearly 9 month old girl and we are so blessed to have her. I brought her back to shop with me once and she was recognized, picked up, kissed and hugged by the owner. She was THRILLED to see him! It was really sweet. I'm telling you guys, these people give pet shops a good name. Take it from an extremely picky animal lover (me). I've been a FF&F customer since they opened and have never seen a single sign of abuse or neglect, or even a puppy or kitten that seemed sad or stressed. If you are a Bay Ridge pet owner, boycott World of Pets. They are awful and cruel (see reviews for details!). Shop FF&F!!

If you are a Bay Ridge pet owner, boycott World of Pets. They are awful and cruel (see reviews for details!). Shop FF&F!!

Pros: wonderful caring and friendly staff, clean, excellent inventory and so good to their animals!

Cons: not one single thing!!!
