This tiny cheese and wine cafe offers a extensive list of wines from several regions around the world but that isn't even the best part. The list of cheeses is organized by type and gives a full sensory description of each one while paired with the perfect condiment to enhance the flavor. Favorite pairing so far? Gorganzola piccante with maple fudge! Tables fill up fast, but sitting at the bar is my favorite because that is where I can watch every order prepared and plated so artistically!

I ate at Casellula while in town on business two weeks ago. I ate there at the suggestion of someone I met on the plane ride over from California.

Oh. my. God. Best place ever.

First, I have to say that I am obsessed with cheese. The cheese here was AMAZING and the pairings could not have been more perfect. My favorite was the Ossau-Iraty with some sort of sugar fudge. I ordered another round of it - it was amazing. The Ploughgate Willoughby with the coconut macaroon was another excellent pairing. My friend and I also got a meat plate and the ricotta crostini - delicious. We shared a bottle of wine and felt pleasantly full, all for $100 (which is pretty good for a delicious meal in the city).

The Fromager, Tia?, was super helpful and spent time at our table explaining everything and gave excellent suggestions. Really knew what to give us based on what we did and did not like in a cheese.

I have been talking about this restaurant non-stop since I came back to California. I would love for Casellula to open a venue out here in LA. They would have a guaranteed weekly patron!

Other people mentioned that the service was poor, but I did not experience anything remotely close to this. When my friend and I arrived, all tables were full but we sat at the bar and drank wine until a table opened up. They were very accommodating and pleasant though the entire evening.

I would highly recommend you try Casellula if eating excellent cheese while drinking phenomenal wine is your thing.

Pros: knowledgeable staff, awesome cheese

Cons: need a bigger space!

The hostess was so rude! They acted like they were better than us, and they wouldn't seat us despite the fact that there were empty tables. Go somewhere else!

I arrived at 7 but guess what my date was horribly late,I was given a seat at the bar and the nice lady (sorry I did not ask your name, black sweater with white flowers) offered to put me on the wait and promised I would be first for a table,I was kinda nervous to be in a place alone but was immediately relaxed by the gracious staff.
We had a cheese and meat selection, olives, and a chicken liver pate,my date had a pinot noir and I had a matchbook red, grenache, mouvedre I think it was, everything was delicious and fresh, the condiments with the cheeses were outstanding, I have to tell you from being so nervous I was soon having a wonderful time,I was moved to a cute area by the window which was bar like and it allowed us much room to talk, every member of staff there are super nice and even though it was busy we were not rushed, the bill came $120 which by the way we had 2 glasses of crisp bubbly and 4 glasses of vino the $30 tip was well earned and I should have gave more, the only downside about this great find was when the panini's are pressed or something that gave off a fried smell and as the room is so small I was concerned about my clothes smelling of food, having said that I have to say in my 7 years as a New York resident this has instantly become my absolute favourite place to eat,yes I know there is a u in my spelling because that is the corrrect way to all you yanks lol,ps I am English so I should know....I totally recommend to all to try and will be back there very soon myself, thanks to all the staff :-)

I really liked everything about this place. The ambiance is cool. The service was fantastic. Our server was attentive and had a great sense of humor. And the food was very tasty.
My friend and I shared a Bellwether Farm San Andreas and Willow Hill Farm La Fleurie. They were delicious. They do not take reservations.

i didn't get to eat an actual meal at casellula but i just had to give them 5 stars for the service, wines and appetizers that i did get to sample.

first of all, our waitress was wonderful, friendly, funny, accommodating... she was just awesome. She selected some great wine to go with our cheese. and it was DELICIOUS!!! as was the yummy wine....

it was my first romantic night out in our neighborhood... the first of many at casellula, i'm sure.

i know it's a trek for the rest of you... but, i don't think you'll be disappointed.

I give them 5 stars because of the impeccable service. The wine bar has a great ambiance. The wait staff is making sure everyone is happy.
The food parings are always right on. The selection of wine is hand picked and impressive. I've dined here at least a dozen times and have never had a bad experience. If you choose to go, I suggest going to there on Sundays because it is not extremely busy. You really get your buck with the amount of food courses and wine to go with each course.

what a great find! this cheese bar has a superb selection of cheeses, delicious wines and interesting entrees. staff is very helpful in navigating the menu and selecting wines and cheeses. we ordered several cheese flights as well as the mixed green salad which came out covered in goat cheese. i hadn't realized it had goat cheese and wouldn't have ordered it if i knew because i thought i didn't like goat cheese. WOW was i wrong...i ate every last morsel of it. when i complimented the owner, he explained that i just don't like bad goat cheese. The fresh ricotta cheesecake was one of the best desserts my husband and i ever ate. it's a must try!!!! this is a small busy cafe, so don't expect too much room to spread out...but if you love cheese, or want to learn more about cheese, you must go!

I have been to Casellula several times over the past year, but I will NEVER GO AGAIN after I finally realized that the service is unforgivably terrible. I have always enjoyed the food and wine selections but I can no longer overlook how rude and inconsiderate the staff is (which has not changed in several years despite many negative reviews and complaints on the internet!). When one pays a 300-400% markup for wine and $14 for four spoonfuls of macaroni and cheese, one should expect at a minimum courteous service! Do not be fooled by other reviews that simply focus on the wine and food??you will regret you ever stepped foot inside Casellula (unless, of course, you enjoy being treated like an annoyance).

This restaurant is a real find in the busy district and bar setting of hell's kitchen. Despite the previous review of above, I still decided to check it out for myself. As a late night worker, this is a definite after-hours spot to go to if you want to relax after a hard day's work with smooth medium and full bodied wines paired with delightful french cheeses, bleu cheese, and jasper bliss cheese. Their selection of both the wine and cheese bring a refreshing feeling to the palate. I love this place for their service, and even the manager was very welcoming by serving us different kinds of wine for tasting. We finally chose a nice bottle of cotes du rhones and this italian wine I forget the name, but both wines complimented the cheese that the fromage hostess picked out for us. It's a small place but I was very pleased with the service, food, wine, meats, cheese, and the ambience. Perfect for a late night date or a spot to go after a dinner date just to unwind and get to know someone more. Also great for groups for tasting wines. I definitely would go again!
