I use to work by Dumbo area and I was sick of getting sandwiches/soups for lunch. I discovered Toro and decided to give it a try. My meal consists of a soup, an appetizer and an entree all for about 14 dollars (i don't think they offer this anymore, they offer bento boxes for 9 bucks) I had the miso soup, a kani salad and a pan seared tuna... AMAZING! The kani salad was soooooooo good and the seared tuna was literally made to perfection. I've been their a few times for take-out and also to sit-in, both were great. The manager started to talk to me and she offered me a free bottle of Snapple.

I think many people gave this restaurant a poor rating because they hadn't seen the new renovated decor, tried the new menu or experience the great staff. (I didn't find the paella or the tapas on the menu!)

The service is excellent, the environment is very classy and beautiful, the appetizers were very delicious, main course I had was just OK. I came with three other co-workers and we ordered 3 appetizers... the calamari, the beef satay, and the crab tempura. All of which were very delicious. .

When we reached the main course, this is when I was slightly dissapointed. I ordered the steamed chicken sea bass . For the price I'm paying, I was expecting excellent, but instead i got Good.

Despite my dissapointment, I would definitely try the restaurant again. Maybe I will get lucky the next time.

My husband and I enjoy dining within walking distance from our home. We found one of our restuarants that we enjoyed was closed for renovations over the winter. I was very disappointed to have seen this. Today was our first day to try it since it had reopen to a new staff and menu. I was very pleased with the change and the food was delightfull. They did a wonderfull full job bringing some of Manhattan's chef's to our area. The decor must be seen and I am sure they will be rated highly. If anyone know's Richard the mayor of Dumbo, thank him for bringing us Toro to Dumbo and Brooklyn Hts.

Cons: Very busy on Sat. nights

I had a nice experience here. But I definitely felt a more Spanish flare than Asian at this restaurant. The only thing Asian I saw on the menu was sake. I ate the gambas al ajillo and the seafood paella which were both good. The sangria was great but very expensive, $50 for a pitcher. However, we did get about 12 small wine glasses out of it. The decor is modern yet cozy. The service was fare, we felt neither rushed nor neglected. All in all, I would eat here again.

It was nice to hang out in brooklyn for a change and discovered this place. We were on line for Pizza but to wait for 2 hours, no one from New York waits two hours for Pizza. My friends and I decided to try this place. It was great. Waited 30 minutes for the food but it was worth it. We shared the meal and I could say we had a wonderfull meal. I had to look this place up. I am surprised at some of the reviews. I guess you have to go in order to make your own opinion. Mine is all positive. I do recommend it to all my friends.

Why you ask: I went to Toro with a friend because our original plan to go to Grimaldis was spoiled by an hour-and-a-half wait. The atmosphere was what mainly drew us in, as it is located in what appears to be an old bank building with high ceilings and just the right lighting. We also agreed the menu had a variety of dishes to choose from. Though described as "Span-Asian", the only Asian item on the menu is Sake and as far as "Span" goes, there was Paella and two Spanish-style tapas. Oh, and they had Sangria but I would not recommend it. The remainder of the menu consisted of pasta and a variety of meat dishes.
Servers needed. Inquire within: When we entered we were casually greeted by a man leaning against the host stand who then pointed the host as if he couldn't be bothered. We were seated, immediately brought water and bread and then were ignored for about ten minutes. Once our order was taken we did not see our server again until the end of the meal when we found him to ask for our check. This was after we sat for 30 minutes and no one checked on us, though servers/bussers did walk by the table.
Hiring Head Chef, Line cooks: The Calamars Fritado were rubbery. The Eggplant Spinach Lasagna tasted as though it was cooked in old oil. The only redeemable dish we ate was the Fresh Mozzerella Salad, although the mozzarella was smoked, not fresh , and some of the ingredients listed on the menu were not in the salad.
Overall: This restaurant needs a serious makeover in regard to food and service. If you just want to have a simple drink and nice atmosphere, then you are in the right spot.

Nestled under the Brooklyn Bridge on the corner of Dumbo, the place has very friendly service and great tapas. A friend and I enjoyed the outdoor seating last night with a great view of the bridge and the enormous line of tourists waiting to get into Grimald's. We went more for the "span" than the "asian." I'd recommend the chorizo plate and beer to anyone as part of a Bridge excursion.

So the other day me and a few friends went to check this place out and our experience could not have been worse. It started when we were ignored for the first 15 minutes that we were there and than we ordered sodas and they were disgusting, how do you mess up soda? The food was God awful. Literally it was disgusting. I think Chef-Boyardee makes a better cooked/prepared tortellini. The meat in the sauce was burnt-literally black and burnt- disgusting. My friend ordered the grilled chicken sandwich- and got literally a tiny piece of grilled chicken on a bun. What! for 7 dollars? I think for 3 you can get a grilled chicken club at McDonalds with bacon, lettuce, tomatoe, and mayo. Our waiter ignored and treated us like we were a bother-and there were only 2 other tables there. About time we got our bill we were frozen and sick. I would not tell anyone to go here-unless you like really terrible food- wait in line for the pizza.

I am surprise about the last review. I live on Washington Street and I enjoy having dinner in Toro. Since it's opening the menu has changed but the food has always been good. For Dumbo this place is a gem. I can only say, I have had great service and all my meals have been great. I will still go to Toro and maybe book my christmas party there this year.

Went there for the $21. buck value! I cannot not complain it was good. They no longer serve Sushi only when you book a private party. Too bad:( ,,,I was looking forward to that. Had the salad to start, then I ordered the skirt steak. It was great and they gave us a tour of there 3rd floor. Very nice decor, I have to give this place a 9 out of a perfect 10.

I ate at Toro for the first time in December and was not impressed. The service was awful and the food was so-so. My friends wanted to try it so I decided to give it a second chance. I should have went with my first impression. Not only was the second time around bad, it was worse than the first time I ate there. I ordered the Lemon Grass Jumbo Shrimp as an appetizer and shared the Paella as an entree with my boyfriend. The rice was overcooked and sticky and the fish tasted "fishy", usually meaning that it is bad. When we told our server about the food we were greeted with a snide remark and alot of attitude.
I read through some of the reviews on here to see if anyone else had similar experieinces and was surprised to see some of the positive reviews. What really caught me by surprise was the own written by the owner of Toro (see review authored by Mars2011). You know something is up when an owner has to write their own review. Toro has seen the last of me.

This unknown place is great, I don t know why this place is not known but it works for me. The prices are low for this neighborhood, food, drinks were good and cheap. They had a party going on the on the third floor that looked like fun. So why not I crash it and joined in. The third floor has a full bar, dj, lights, Lcds and these huge windows looking out very nice. I found a friend of mine who works over at the court house near by. When I found out it was a party for the Fed's, I was shocked that they even knew how to party. Very nice, I will be back!

We happen to enter this place because we didn t want to wait on line for Grimmaldi's pizza. My girlfriend and I order Mohito's, that were half price! After a few we said F--k the pizza and order gambas with the house salad. It was so good that we had to order some more. We had a great time and when I tell the girls about this place it may be the next lesbian licky hot spot.

My X boyfriend brought me to this place to see if we can work things out. I was impressed with the place and it was 10 x better than the places he ever took me. We oder shrimp with garlic (that was awesome) then I had the shirt steak (that was the best ever). After a few drinks we sat there watching music video's till it got late. Well it was nice date but I will be back but without the X. Next time with my girlfriends, so thanks George for showing me this hot spot!

Toro is in an interesting neighborhood in a building that used to be a bank when the brooklyn Bridge was build. The space itself is nice they could have done better...The food and prices were average but small. We didnt have sushi...The service was horrible. We were seated promptly but although place was empty it took about 20 minutes to get us menus...20 minutes later they came with 2 glasses of water and 1 bread basket for 15 people. 10 min later we got more water and bread. We ordered drinks and food at the same time...And most of us got the food and drinks at the same time about 45 minutes after ordering. Go elsewhere!!

One of the worst experiences in my life. To make a long story short, I knew there was a problem when the waiter took my drink order. After ordering my main course, the waiter returns 5 minutes later telling me there was a problem with my order and what exactly did I order. Now, I was part of a big group and the appetizers we ordered was fine, (sushi boat, little sausages, salad) but when the food came out, both paella dishes were undercooked, my food (steak) did not even show up. After complaining about the wait, the waiter was confused as if I never ordered the steak. By the time the food came, I had no interest in eating it. HORRIBLE SERVICE. I couldn't even say what the food tastes like since I had none. I went home to eat Chef Boyardee.

Sake flights were a good value and were very tasty. Dinner came before appetizers, which is a mistake, but forgivable. Maki combo for two was decent, but only the size of a single person's combo at a typical restaurant. Also, it was both maki and nigiri, not just maki. Ceviche was disgusting--just poor quality tuna sashimi with some chopped cilantro, not marinated in anything, much less any citrus juices. Also, an extremely tiny portion. Mushroom appetizer was doused in a gross mayonnaise like sauce and had not been described that way on the menu. Maybe we ordered the wrong stuff, but that was the fault of the inaccurate menu. The space of the restaurant was really nice, but they need a new chef and to reprint the menu.

I STUMBLED ON TORO WHILE WALKING TO PICK ON MY WIFE. I PEAKED IN SIDE AND COULD NOT BELIEVED THE INSIDE OF TORO, I THOUGHT I WAS IN DISNEY. I DECIDED TO TRY THE PLACE OUT WITH MY WIFE AND TO MY GREAT SURPRISE, THE FOOD, SERVICE WAS SECOND TO NONE.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE MIXTO, WHICH WAS MOROCCAN OCTOPUS, SEA SCALLOPS, AHD GULF SHRIMP WITH PIC DE GALLO. FOR DESERT I HAD THE DELIICIA DE CHOCOLATE , WHICH I COULD HONESTLY SAY WAS SO AWSOME, THAT I ACTUALLY TOOK 2 MORE TO GO.

THE WAITRESS WAS SWEET AND THE WHOLE EXPERENCE LEFT US SMILING, I PROMISE TO MYSELF THAT I WOULD MAKE A POINT OF IT , THAT AT ANYTIME IM IN BROOKLYN, THAT TORO WILL BE ON MY LIST OF PLACES TO GO.....

Great food, Great location, Wonderfull Staff all inside a historic building that was transformed into a restaurant, bar and lounge. A must go to if you are in New York! This is an example of how New York City is a great city. This Historic location is a dream that turned into a reality for Mars and Tom the owners. Mars who is Spanish and Tom who is Asian made this location into a fusion of both worlds. Sushi with Tapas, Sanqria with sake and all other sort of great dishs. THERE IS OVER 10 KINDS OF SAKE, ON MENU WE CHOSE THE KAMOIZUMI WHICH I THINK I MAY HAD HAD TO MANY.

IF ANYONE IS LOOKING FOR A AUTHENTIC MENU OF SUSHI AND SAKE, TORO IS THE PLACE TO DINE AT

Dish after dish of superbly prepared food, simply presented but boasting top-notch ingredients, finely tuned seasoning and consistency of standards. We started with appetizers ,toasted bread with skewers of shrimp and a incredibly awesome beef skewers with a lack of greasiness. Pia was probably my favorite, generous pieces of tender and smoky grilled squid, mussels, clams and shrimp on a bed of risotto rice
Spanish

our super-friendly waitress was helpful in explaining the dishes and knowledgeable about the ingredients and preparation methods.

The wine list has an excellent range of internationally sourced bottles, with a impressive range of Spanish wines

Toro now ranks as one of my favorite eateries in new york city.

I was really impressed with this new restaurant in DUMBO. The building is historic and beautiful. We stopped in for a drink at the bar and was very impressed with the place. Will be back to try the food.
