What a shame to have to trash this place on line because I had a lovely massage with Tamara, and my two friends and I really enjoyed our platza session with Doryan. However, last night after her first massage with a male massage therapist, one of the two (female) friends I went with received two text messages from someone she didn't know saying how much he'd enjoyed "meeting" her and how much he wanted to see her again. When she texted to ask who he was, he said he was her massage therapist from Okeanos.

She was and is completely freaked out, not having had any sense that her therapist was looking to get a date from her as he gave her massage, having given no one at Okeanos permission to give out her cell phone number, and knowing that this totally inappropriate stranger had access to her home address.

My other friend and I spent the better part of the evening trying to make her feel safe and not physically violated and assuring her that we'd take action. Have notified Groupon, contacted the spa (haven't heard back yet) Needless to say, all of the relaxation we all felt after our time at Okeanos went down the drain, and our friend -- a very competent, confident, strong woman -- is really knocked sideways by this. Please do not give this place your business in the future.

a little weary as it was under ground level but felt instantly relieved when i entered the spa...friendly service--i think mostly russians/eastern european...had a male massage (last-min appt so no females were available) and he was GREAT...i was skeptical b/c i've never had a male working on me, but he proved to be better than most female masseuses i've had...applied pressure on my shoulder and upper back where i told him i was most tense....anyway, will go back and ask for him specifically though i'm sure others there are great as well...i think his name is Tiber, or Tiger...anyway, great spa, great sauna--the guy who manages the spa is really helpful as well--made sure everyone was comfortable in the sauna, that it wasn't too hot, etc. etc....so in short, highly recommend.

Really loved this spa. Took my boyfriend and we enjoyed the relaxing sauna. We had our massages together at no extra price, and since we both went, it was 30% off! The massages themselves were great - perfect pressure, relaxing. I almost fell asleep it was so good (and that never happens).

at the end, they gave us a complimentary shot of vodka. how fun!

Highly recommended

This place is GREAT. I love getting deep tissue massages and Im willing to pay for it especially if the person knows what they're doing. I've gone twice in the last month and had Ivan work me out both times. This guy was absolutely great, I left the place like someone beat me up (in a good way). He worked out every cramp and kink in my body and really had great technique. The saunas were clean, super HOT and the staff was extremely friendly. It's great if you work in midtown as its open till 10pm most of the week. As other people have said its a bit more expensive then other places but after you get the massage you wont give a damnn about the $$$. Highly recommended and ask for IVAN.

The services were great and the spa was clean and enjoyable. The owner was very professional and sincere. We had a incident regarding our bill but he took up the matter personally and fixed the issue to our satisfaction. I would definitely recommend this spa to anyone. Worth every penny.

8-27 - I had a billing error. Unfortunately, the owner was not present when we left the spa. It did take a while, but the owner contacted me directly and apologised for the incident. He was very professional and sincere regarding the matter. We did enjoy the services and would definitely visit the spa again. I say check your bill and ask for the owner if there are any problems. It's a great spa for men and they definitely delivered on their services. My husband loved the facial and massage. Said the steam room was one of the best he ever experienced.

Finally there's a real and clean bathhouse in the city. The saunas and massages, although more expensive than competition, are top flight. Limited food menu, but BYOB makes this place golden.

If you are into saunas/banyas than this place is for you. The place is by far the cleanest and hottest in the city. The massage was good, although on a pricey side for the deep tissue. The staff was courteous and attentive...sometimes a bit too attentive. If you frequent the city spas or bathhouses, I suggest you give this one a try.

I don't normally leave reviews, but my visit is worth it. The staff was professional and attentive. The best part is the saunas and the steam room. They are as authentic as it gets. Keep in mind that this is not your regular bath house. The place is upscale and priced accordingly. The only set back is the bar. I wish they'd serve freshly squeezed juices and offer bigger variety of snacks and appetizers.

I used to frequent this spa quite often, as the employees here were very professional. But on a recent visit, I was disappointed to learn that the place has taken a turn for the worse. The spa was hot (no A/C), dark and smelly, as if someone is keeping a tight watch on the electric bill, and the complementary water was tepid and smelled from chlorine. I was charged $3.00 for a mediocre glass of tea, and the towels I was offered after using the banya were filthy, and looked like they are recycled and folded between guests without washing. To top it off, b*gs were crawling on the dump, moldy floor. It?s a shame that a place with a great potential has gone bad due to an unprofessional management and poor customer service. I?m never going back to this ?spa?.

The people here were very friendly and execellent at what they do. I had an awesome message. Why I am willing to pay more for a message at a spa is the extras that usually come with it. This spa, while having opened its doors to women recently, definitly still caters to men. The womens shower room didn't have toothbrush, facial products, or hair products like the men's (my boyfriend and I compared notes). The steam room had a mildew smell in it. And the bar area wasn't tended and I didn't feel like searching someone out. They seemed to put more effort into upselling than to catering. At these prices, I will probably seek out other spas in order to compare--if I can get the awesome message and platza at a spa that delivers better ammenities and service, then I would probably not go back which is hard for me to write as the people were really sweet.

Came here with a few co-workers after work. This is by far the most male friendly spa/bathhouse in the city. Although they serve comp vodka shots, BYOB is also allowed. More places like this in NYC, please!

After visiting Okeanos I felt as if I have had a week of vacation. The perfect place to relax and forget about the whole world. A great, sophisticated yet simple atmosphere, professional staff and the BEST TREATMENTS EVER. Highly recommend the banya treatment for those who need to relax or simply try something new and exciting. My facial and massage were out of this world. This is more than I expected and I am definitely coming back.

Think different - Okeanos Spa is not your ordinary banya. No kids running around, no guys swilling down the beer, no ma's with thermoses, no TV's with Russian channels, but just a few people enjoying themselves in a spa with a Russian flavor. Andre Izrailov - a co owner of Okeanos Spa is a pleasure to deal with. And always classy Angela - the spa manager ensures that every client is treated like a celebrity, which can be not far from the truth - some Russian hockey players, ballet dancers and models are regulars there.

The spa is geared towards men - from masculine stone and wood decor to the selection of treatments. Men can take care of themselves and still feel like men - they are in banya after all! There is also a cigar room that was probably meant to balance the healing effect of the spa. Okeanos has two (only one is opened at the moment) cozy Russian steam rooms (no shvitz thankfully) and a "Turkish" steam room, but unfortunately no pool or cold plunge. Everything is brand new with a pleasant feel of luxury. The platza master knows his business well (ask for Ruslan on Thursdays - he is outstanding) and the stove is good - making enjoyable, not oppressive steam that doesn't burn, but thoroughly warms your body. The stove is quite small though, so the steam room becomes rather cold and wet when place gets a lot of people like Saturday nights.

Okeanos is more a spa than a banya and the owners emphasize that in pricing. It makes more sense to spend $120+ on platza with massage or facial and use the banya facilities with no additional fee, than to pay $90 just for an admission. Okeanos does not serve food, but they do offer tea. And complimentary glass of champagne or a shot of vodka are available with every package. The staff is great - attentive, neat and polite.

Check their web site for specials. Right now on Thursdays for just $50 you can enjoy all of the facilities, live Jazz and some great Russian bear.

I recently had two treatments at Okeanos ? an Optimum facial and a Siberian Hot Stone Massage -- and found the staff to more than professional. I felt pampered from the moment I stepped into the beautiful ocean liner-like space. My message therapist went out her way to make me comfortable on the table before she began and went about her work silently allowing me to really relax.

Although it was my first visit, I was treated like an old friend and encouraged to relax and enjoy a drink at the bar before, between and after my treatments. I really appreciated the little details, like the Spa Director stopping by to say hello and the gorgeous locker room and showers that called to mind a chic boutique hotel.
I'll be back soon!

An ideal place to getaway from the city chaos without leaving the city. Russian sauna, massage, complimentary vodka and a poker game - all in one place and in one evening. Platza is a must have before any treatment. We found more than we bargained for. Thanks Okeanos!!!

As a bath afficionado, I was looking forward to trying my first banya. I left OKEANOS very disappointed.
On the phone, management was super friendly, promising free vodka shots after the treatment. I made a reservation for the plotza treatment for myself and several friends and was told it would take 30 to 40 minutes per person.
Although the web site advertizes that each guest receives a "heated wrap" of Russian grains and spices on arrival, no such welcoming gesture was offered. On the positive side, the facilities are clean and the plotza was administered by a friendly and competant young "plotza master" named Sam. However, the first plotza lasted only 20 -25 minutes. This was not so bad but in the middle of the second, the manager stuck her head in and said something in Russian that sounded like, "Hurry up! The next customers are coming!." The treatment ended soon after. The final person in our group to receive a plotza got a very abbreviated version - 10 minutes or so. After the bath we were led to a seating area in our robes and offered refreshments. We chose tea and juice and were also given some fruit. Vodka shots were not offered.
When it came time to pay, we were charged for the plotza and then told we would be charged $50 per person on top of that for the use of the banya. This brochure lists a " half-day use" fee of $90 for those who don't book treatments. The website doesn't mention this at all except under "current promotions" that says half-day use is reduced to $50. I assume this was the justification for the charge, although we had each booked a treatment. Needless to say, the juice and tea were not complementary although there is no menu or sign with prices.
There is an anxiety about money at OKEANOS. They may be on the verge of bankruptcy or they may be trying to make a minimum amount from every client. Either way, the lack of transparency about the cost of services leaves a bad taste.

I usually do not write reviews, but this Spa-Banya is worth experiencing.
I went there without any expectations and left quite impressed. It is an excellent place to treat oneself for a sport-massage or a spa-treatment. Its atmosphere is elegant and soothing; the staff is very polite and ever so attentive.
This urban oasis is a great location to go recuperate and probably one of the most peaceful places in the city to pamper oneself -- either alone or with friends and colleagues.
The option to have vodka and caviar afterwards is ever so civilized and quite fun.

My experience at Okeanos was utter bliss. My wife and I were catered to by the friendly and hospitable staff. The banya (steam and sauna) are the best anywhere, and the platza treatment, a totally unique and exotic experience, had me completely relaxed and ready for my mind-blowing massage. My massage therapist, Sam, masterfully kneaded and stretched my body. By the time my massage was over I felt like brand new and was half asleep/half in euphoric trance. Rapture does not even begin to describe it.

My wife had the same caliber of service with her massage therapist Margarita and loved it just as much. She also tried the venik massage or platza and was thrilled by it. It is like a full body massage performed with soft lush leaves in the steamy sauna room until the skin is glowing and completely rejuvenated. Wow, I could go on forever reliving my experience; all in all this is one New York hot spot youll be sorry you missed.

Okeanos is classy, quiet, simple and yet sophisticated. Everything from the elegant interior design to the attentive and helpful staff makes you relaxed and comfortable. The best thing about Okeanos is that it is great for both men and women. Because the place does not have the usual pretensions spa atmosphere that makes guys uncomfortable, it works perfectly for everyone. I went there with my boyfriend for a spa experience and it turned into something better the best date. We took the famous banya treatment followed by massages which is the perfect combination. Then, we relaxed at Okeanos cozy bar and had a great meal delivered from Petrossian with caviar, Russian blintzes and vodka. It could have not been any better!

Also, on a practical side, Okeanos is a clean and quiet place fresh towels and bathrobes, great product lines (Molton Brown and Comfort Zone), professional staff and comfortable waiting areas. Overall the best experience ever!

One remark although sauna and lounge area are co ed, a couples massage room would have been a plus.

I went here with my boyfriend for a relaxing day and it was a VERY enjoyable experience. My boyfriend had never been to a spa, or a banya, and I thought he would feel uncomfortable. But, the beauty of Okeanos is that it is a male oriented spa, but at the same time is a serene and enjoyable experience for both sexes. The spa was decorated in beautiful mosaic tiles, mostly blue, making you feel like you are in an ocean. We started with a platza treatment which was wonderful, really makes your skin breathe! After our Platza we went into separate rooms for our massage. My boyfriend got a Russian sports massage and I got the invigorating okeanos massage. Both satisfactory and enjoyable. I recommend taking a shot of vodka after your massage for a really refreshing and authentically Russian experience Molton Brown products smell wonderful. While I myself dont use heavily scented products they would make a nice gift! Staff is extremely friendly and hospitable. All in all we spent around 4 hours at Okeanos, enjoying the treatments, dry heat and steam saunas! Ive already recommended the spa to a couple of people and plan on sending my parents there as well. ONE CON did not like how my masseuse tried to sell extra massage services during the massage. I hope its not a standard practice.
