DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

After one shady experience after another, our apartment search for a 2 bedroom on the Upper West Side led us to Best Apartments. On our first day of showings, Danielle was left to show us a grand total of 2 apartments. We fell in love with the first one (after showing Danielle how to get there since she didn't know the first thing about the UWS). We decided to move forward with the application process. At that point, we were sent to work with Jay who, at first impression, seemed competent (which was refreshing).

After pushing to negotiate the rent by a mere $50/month, our requests were allegedly rejected by the owner because they didn't want to push "before we were serious" and "in New York you offer more money, not less". While waiting for our application to be processed, I was notified by another broker we had worked with that WITHOUT ANY COMMITMENT they were willing to knock the price down by the $50 we had asked for per month.

Upon broaching this topic with Jay, it became clear that he had been lying throughout the entire process. We were told the individual who showed us the apartment was the super and not the owner so we couldn't try to negotiate with him (it was the owner), we were told that we couldn't talk about negotiating without being "serious" (we got a lower offer without even expressing serious interest) and we were told that it wasn't possible to even consider bumping the price (which was obviously untrue).

Rather than handling this in a professional manner, Jay proceeded to talk down to my roommate and I, claiming that this "misunderstanding" was simply because of our stupidity--that the other broker was scamming us (in spite of the fact that the other broker had no knowledge of how we had proceeded).

In the end, after having hold on our deposit, we had no choice but to proceed (instead of losing thousands of dollars), not without an enormous amount of frustration and disgust--leaving us to be spending an extra $600 a year for one reason alone--that they were dishonest.

I know the NY broker scene tends to be a lying bunch, but amongst all of my dealings, this experience was by far the most disgusting. I write to encourage you to NEVER use this company. IT IS A SCAM.
