Physique 57 rocks. I go to the spring street location which is very zen when you walk in but totally kicks your *ss. I seriously felt results so quickly it was ridiculous, within a few classes your abs are firmer. It is addictive as others have said because it is so efficient. 2 or 3 times a week and you're done. The ONE thing I hate is how they sell plastic water bottles instead of encouraging customers to use the fountain or go to the guy 20 feet away from their front door selling them . They sell so much stuff with their logo on it, why not make an environmentally friendly water bottle, and sell that to your customers - then your name is on it and you are doing something nice for the planet.

This is the most amazing exercise option available in NYC. I've done boot camps, kick boxing, sculpting classes, you name it - but Physique57 is THE most challenging class I have ever taken. Don't ask me how they do it, but without any jumping around, your heart rate will soar, you will sweat buckets, stretch and tone your muscles and leave feeling as happy and relaxed as you can be. And all this in just 57 minutes! The teachers are just amazing too. They are so encouraging, cheerful and spending one hour in their class is just the best pick-me-up ever. I LOVED taking classes here. My only "quibble" is that the locker rooms are crazy-tiny and it can be a little stressful trying the change before or after class. Otherwise, this is a very special place and a true New York gem.

My arms are stronger and my thighs are losing the jiggle and my butt has raised up, the workout is tough but u never leave in pain just a good soreness, I have been very active my entire life and was actually starting to hate the gym so this was a perfect fit. The trainers esp Tanya are amazing, they motivate u they are fun and the music is great! NOT TO MENTION I LIVE ONE HOUR AWAY in Queens and make it to class 3 times a week because I believe in it so much.. classes get packed but sched. it right and you will get a spot.. I love P57 and cant wait for tom afternoons class!

I am a male, so going to a Lotte Berk type class seemed very foreign almost taboo to me. My wife stumbled upon Physique 57 three years ago, and I watched as she transformed before my eyes. Over two years we had two children, and my wife was going to classes right up until a week prior to the birth of both of our children. Her recovery time was so short, and she was into her normal clothes within weeks of giving birth, and I have to give a lot of credit to the work outs of Phyqisue 57.

I was very heavy I would say 60-75 lbs over weight. I decided this past January it was time to make a change. My wife encouraged me to try Physique 57 saying to me I could work out at my own pace. There were so many muscles I wouldn't work out on my own that they focus on in class. I went to my first class and fell in love immediately. I can't lie, it's a very tough workout. You can't go into class expecting a pilates class, or yoga, or even an exact Lotte Berk class. P57 is a combination of all of these exercises. Each time I go to class I find myself able to do more and more of the routine. Since January I have lost 60 lbs, and while I have dieted, and also found time to get cardio in, the speed of which I have lost weight was definitely exaggerated by attending regular classes. Anyone that has a negative comment about this class either didn't do the class correctly, or spent more time hung up on what the instructor's personality was like, and not on the actual work. I highly recommend Phsyique 57 to anyone looking for a full body/core work out. I think you will like the instructors and the work out as much as I do.

Your personal appearance as well as your rapid strength gain is phenomenal. You'll feel better about yourself within one class. All you need to do is get yourself there! The classes are fun and motivating and the results you see and feel by the end of one class. I've tried it all. From Gyrotonics to old fashioned aerobics. I've been working out my entire life, and feel like I've worked with the best trainers all over the country. Besides the fact that Physique57 is fun and you have the motivation of the class and instructors to keep you going, the instructors are the best I?ve ever experienced at any studio or gym around the county. I attended a beginner?s class, which was difficult for me (as I said, I haven?t set foot in a gym in years), but I followed as well as I could and really felt it. The technique is unique and just makes sense. You use every part of your body ? no fancy machines, just you and your muscles (with occasional usage of a ballet bar). I absolutely loved the class, the energetic teachers, and the approach ? I am completely inspired and highly recommend this exercise studio for any woman who wants to get into shape, tone her body, or improve on an already great figure. You never get bored and you feel a difference immediately. Everyone I see there and have spoken to loves it and goes all the time. I am a changed woman! Go Physique 57!

Attending a class is like getting a personal training with 20 other people. Their instructors are great. Other studios who have copied the technique (originally a rehab program for dancers) haven't copied the employment philosophy, and that's 75% of the the delivery. If you're in NYC and need to strengthen your core and legs (I'm a runner and those are essential in order to finish any distance race), this is the place.

It could be the great music and choreography or the enengetic and supportive teachers that makes me feel great after a physique 57 class. I take 2-4 classes per week and at age 56yrs I have never felt healthier and stronger. I believe I have found my "Fountain of Youth"! Since taking classes regularly, I have developed upper body strength and definition that I was never able to achieve and maintain with any other program.I have better posture and as one woman I work with said "you have a great butt!".
As for the health benefits, I went through menopause with out any symptoms or need for medication and I truely believe it has to do with my consistant work out program. I wish all the women in my life, young and old could get going to Physique 57!

I was enthusiastic about trying this new twist on the Lotti Berk Method (afterall, thats really what it is) and I took 2 classes in one week. I am always looking to shock my body into doing new things even though I have been practicing Pilates for years. I was thrilled with the first instructor and couldnt wait to go back. The second instructor looked more at herself in the mirror than she did our form so I wasn't as impressed. I could be malicious and name names but I wont bc writing this email is upsetting enough since I have never written a negative thing on any one/place in my life. Deciding to go back for a third, I confirmed my space as requested. Immediately afterwards, I recieved a call back from the desk girl stating that I was NO LONGER invited back to Physique 57 because I was somehow involved in teaching fitness.pilates, and/or dance etc. The second instructor must have mentioned to the front desk that I taught PILATES from our post conversational chit chat after the class. They stated , that because I teach a form of what they do, that I was no longer permitted to take classes there! I was shocked, upset, dissapointed-you name it! They are obviously threatened that someone may take what they have 'so called' invented and use it as their own. Even though their name is tradmarked! They discriminate towards fitness professionals and obvioiusly have a lot to learn in terms of good business policies. So, take a tip from me,. If you teach, have taught or currently work at a facility that teaches dance, pilates, yoga or anything else fitness related- DO NOT TELL them or mention it anywhere in your profile. Better yet, try their more established NYC competitor Core Fusion, and you will be gaurenteed more professional service and policies. I wonder how Kelly Rippa would feel now if she knew of their discriminating ways!

I am glad I did because if I had paid for unlimited access and could never get in, I would be furious.

That is really only proof of how effective these classes are. I really enjoy them - the energy is great and some (not all) of the teachers are fantastic. In Soho, Alycia, Tanya and Alex are wonderful. They are very motivating and and understanding. I have taken classes with a few of the others and they are not consistent in making sure you are in the correct positions.

However, I will probably stop going very soon since the cancellation policy changed. Now classes must be canceled 6 hours in advance on a weekday and 24 hours in advance for a weekend class. It is not possible to get into classes last minute after work and you have to be sure you will be able to leave on time from the office before noon to ensure that you will not be charged for a class you are not able to attend.

Unless you are able to plan you day or don't mind paying for classes you can't attend this isn't for you.

Maybe it has something to do with being a guy in a sea of women, but there is something more. The place has absolutely the best vibe. It starts with the friendly but focused and inspiring instructors. You can?t tell whether it?s their passion for the method they?re teaching or they just have this un-New York like desire for you to succeed. Either way, everyone in class seems to share an ardent will to improve. And because the hour is so demanding the room is filled with expressions of accomplishment and momentary relief at each periodic change in music and body part technique.

While their approach emphasizes thighs, seat, abs and upper body, the first results to appear are newly profound cheek bones. With Physique 57 they don?t go away either. So when you smile in satisfaction at what you?ve achieved, don?t be surprised that others notice too. It?s a great place and the hardest hour you?ll ever love. The best news is that the winning mood you feel and results that come with it last well after you?ve left.

I had a baby a few months ago and struggled with losing the baby weight. I dieted, tried walking in the park but nothing worked. A friend told me about Physique 57 and said that it totally transformed her body in a relatively short amount of time. I resisted, since I hate working out and don't even belong to a gym but ended up trying a class out of pure desperation. This was about 3 weeks ago and I am now totally addicted! The classes are definitely hard, you work muscles in ways you never knew possible but it's truly fun! The music is great, the studio is clean and modern and most importantly the teachers are FABULOUS! My faves are Tanya and Shelly but honestly they're all good and very knowledgable. They are great about giving personal attention since some of the moves are a bit difficult for beginners. The best news is that I've LOST 9 LBS!!!! My pre-pregnancy clothes are starting to fit and I really feel better in general. So even if you usually hate working out (like me), try this, it's so much better and more fun than going to a boring gym.

I had a baby a few months ago and struggled with losing the baby weight. I dieted, tried walking in the park but nothing worked. A friend told me about Physique 57 and said that it totally transformed her body in a relatively short amount of time. I resisted, since I hate working out and don't even belong to a gym but ended up trying a class out of pure desperation. This was about 3 weeks ago and I am now totally addicted! A very frustrating experience. I recently bought a package here and can never get into a class (at the 57th St location anyway). They are always full! You can't even get into a class 2 or 3 days in advance. Even the waiting lists are full! They need to either add more classes or stop selling memberships for a little while!

Pros: Seems like a good workout, when you can get in.

Cons: Classes fill up days in advance, bad for those with an irregular schedule, sometimes instuctors let students do moves incorrectly (too little guidance)

I was a longtime devotee to the Lotte Berk Method on the Upper East Side until they closed a couple of years ago. I went to Physique 57 because they opened downtown and I now live downtown, and they say that they are "like the Lotte Berk Method" which is not true at all. Lotte Berk is about getting in the right position and holding it even if you don't make big sweeping moves? Even a tiny move with the LBM can shape you. Here, they did not even try to correct the wrong positions and let everyone in class (who has obviously have not done it before) keep doing the moves all wrong? The music was a detractor not a benefit to getting through the class. Also, there are no windows which is really annoying and makes you feel like you are in a padded cell. I was bored thru most of class and waited for the end which is a "usually" a good 10 minute cool down in LBM, but it was rushed and we were pushed out the door with no feeling of accomplishment at all. Very disappointing. I know that it is better to do something physical rather than nothing, but I will go back to running on a treadmill. And using my Lotte dvd's.

class and go to the gym several times a week, and I enjoyed it
but never saw much of a difference in my body. Physique 57
classes are challenging but really fun and upbeat because the
great music and instructors get you through it. It is one of
the hardest classes I have ever taken in NYC but definitely the
most effective. It is a total body workout. I hardly do any
other forms of exercise now that I've been so committed to their
classes.

You work EVERYTHING in this one hour class. The instructors are well trained and credentialed -- and they all make a point of knowing your name. Even when you think you can't do one more rep they help you find the will power to do it. When you go be ready to give it your all! My husband saw the changes in the way I carried myself so fast that he became a fan and a believer even though he has never been there.
