I really enjoyed this restaurant! It was adorable in there - all the decorations on the walls. The menu is pretty huge and they are known for milkshakes! I, however, had the Frozen Hot Chocolate which was not as excellent as Serendipity

I brought my friend to their happy hour. Their milkshakes are addictive. I love the Chocolate Banana. They are 3 bucks between 3-5 and don't forget the tots. You can skip the fries here. You won't miss them. Cool 70's decor, trivia

I go to Big Daddys Diner almost every Sunday and love it. It is great for breakfast and their eggs are to die for. I would highly reccommend it to anyone.

Pros: large portions

I ordered a All American Burger 102 with tater tots & was served a thin burger that was obviously defrosted. Tater tots were soggy. My friend ordered Fried Chicken In A Basket with tater tots, was served burnt small sized wing, thigh, drumstick & half breast. Yuck! Wait staff were in la-la land. We never went back. AVOID AT ALL CO$T. We live in the hood & we know what's good. Go to Jackson Hole.

Cons: Disgusitng food & service

food is ok, waitstaff is friendly but slow and restaurant manager (name is Dan) is extremely rude! Also, I ordered a side dish of eggs to be served immediately so my son wont get too restless waiting and get full on the cereal that we brought with us. it took them 20 mins, in other places, theyve brought it out for us in under 5 mins.
Dont come here if you want to watch TV or want to distract your child with the TV. There are numerous other places to go in the Upper east side for brunch but we came here because the last time we were there we were able to get a table right in front of the TV and watch Noggin. Our son is 15 months and the only time he is still is when he watches TV. This is why we hardly ever go to a restaurant, its usually a stressful ordeal. When we get there, we ask for our usual table but since we were a smaller party, they sat us somewhere else with a TV. Before we sat down, we asked the manager (Dan) to change it to a cartoon channel, he says "he MIGHT have a hard time since he cannot physically change the channel, with other diners in the way". I followed up again in a few minutes and he says he cant do it. When I mentioned that that's the only reason why we come here, he yells "come on, we have crayons and balloons". When i told him that "My son eats crayons and he doesnt care about balloons". He shouts this out for all the diners around us to hear, hoping to embarass me. Before we left, I saw him yelling at the top of his lungs at a server. Dont come here unless you want to deal with this type of rude and obnoxious behavior.

Pros: Ok diner food. Huge selection. TV's everywhere

Cons: You cannot change the channel of the TV. Extremely rude manager.

We have eaten at Big Daddy's a number of yimes. We go for the milkshaekes and macaroni and chees. Yes, old style diner food. The portions are huge. The milkshakes great. The Service is as slow as it could get. I have watched people age before my eyes waiting for orders. Go when you are not in a rush. Make sure to order tater tots!

Big Daddy's is such a fun place! We had onion rings, burgers, tater tots and pints of Circus Boy. Food was great, staff was extremely friendly. Perfect spot for a good burger, or some food after a long night out.

My husband and I dined here the first weekend it opened. Perhaps they've figured things out by now but it wasn't worth checking out again. My strawberry shortcake french toast didn't have any real strawberries and my husband's burger was just plain. Both of our milkshakes were so-so. You can get better food at any other local diner in the area.

I go out for breakfast alot & was looking for a NY diner to call home. This is surely a favorite & you can park right out front after 8:30am at the meter. This DIner is a trip to the past in Retro Decor with old fashioned booths, flower wallpaper & old TV show/movie memorabelia & murals. The wait staff is great both in mood & service. The food choices are creative from healthy (omellete w/tofu & turkey bacon) to instant heart attack (pancakes w/bacon inside or carmelized bananas. I actually get french toast with those bananas!). Great early morning/late hours too so you can eat what you are in the mood for. It is a little $$ as far as breakfast goes, but the service, quality & atmosphere make it worth it. I work in Hospitality too & am not easy to please either. This is one of the few really good Diners for breakfast that I would recommend, & I have tried MANY. Many Diners don't offer healthy choices either like this one does. All the healthy places open very late or are too TINY!

Pros: Personalized attention/service, Atmosphere, Food Choices/Quality, Meter Parking after 8:30

Cons: Prices are a little high on certain things, but the pro's make it all well worth the price

The food took 45 minutes to come. There were only a hnadful of customers in the whole place and it was 10:30 at night. When it came the order was wrong. No apology; just a snatch of the plate and 10 minutes later I asked if it was coming. She said "Yeah....". 5 minutes later she was filing ketchup bottles and when I inquired again, she said the kitchen had closed so they had to turn the overn back on. I asked what time the resturaunt closed and she said "11pm". It was 11:10 at this point and we had been there since 10:30. Oh, and the meal we were waiting on--a cheeseburger. I asked for the manager (I was halfway through my meal but my friend was still waiting) and he came over and said, "What?" Let's just say it went down hill from there and my jaw remained open for the rest of the night. In my 7 years on the Upper East Side, and my 32 years of life in civilization, I have never expereinced anything like this. Aggressive, obnoxious, and rude is not exactly how a manger or a waitress should behave to their customers--especially a new business.
Needless to say I am DONE with the diner I was so excited to eat at, and was hoping to make my "go to" neighborhood place.

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. My girlfriend likes one salad they have, so I begrudgingly went back to this place after vowing never to do so. The prices are appalling. Everyone in NYC accepts high prices, but what does Big Daddy's give you? Ten dollars for a hot dog? With no fries ($2 extra for those). I suppose one could say you get more ambiance at Big Daddy's, but the same could be said about T.G.I.Fridays (btw, does Big Daddy's license the images it uses, or just steal them?). Then again, at least Friday's gives you healthy portions. Last time in, I ordered the French Dip sandwich (again, $12 and no fries). Imagine my surprise when my order came and I received a 6 inch baguette with scant roast beef and nothing else on the bread. After we left, I had to get a slice of pizza to appease my hunger.

The one saving grace of Big Daddy's is the constant cries of screaming children. Add that to small portions and insane prices and you have the UES's newest rip-off.

Big Daddy's recently opened on 2nd Ave - if you want any sort of fun dining experience (not to mention edible food), stick to the one on Park Ave South. When I walked in I was greeted by a friendly host but it all went down hill from there. The servers need to be trained (they were all international girls that had NO idea about customer service) and a new chef is needed. I was really excited to have this place on the UES but I won't be back for a long time...

Apparently the original Flatiron diner was a big enough success that they owners have opened this Upper West Side outpost.
