Food is great, decent service. best pizza place around the area. Great for groups but noisy. Typical of a pizza joint.
the pizza here was fantastic, great blend of italian flavors. the atmosphere was very romantic, nice design, great place to bring a date. check it out.
I was on a date and took her here and she loved it; made me look good
had some friends over from Cali and another friend recommended this place, but never imagined that we'd find such a great flavor in the food.... totally out of control... taglioli frutti d mare, gnoci, pizza ohmy goodness!
all good, got to try!!
After several visits, I can honestly say that this "is 'the best pizza in New York city for its consistency. Every time I go back to the restaurant, I feel like it was the first time all over again! I grew up all my life with pizza and after having Luna Rossa's pizza, I had no words! Fantastic! Luna Rossa will have you coming back for more.... whether your in the mood for their wonderful light and fluffy pizza, or in the mood for something special, like their amazing veal ragu` with homemade spinach fettuccine!!! Mamma Mia che buono!
Pros: Impressive wine list
In my opinion this place is better than Lucali's for two reasons: first, though the overall pizza quality is similar (both are to die for), Luna Rossa has a much broader selection of toppings; second, I''ve never had to wait for a table here and the atmosphere is much less rushed (unlike at Lucali's, where hours-long waits are the norm and they really try to get you in and out as quickly as possible). I'm hesitant to review this place because I like keeping it as my secret neighborhood favorite, but I guess that would be too greedy of me.
Pros: Amazing pizza, friendly service, never a wait.
This place has amazing food!!! and the people are nice so you have to try this place out!!!!! they are number 1.
Pros: Everything is AMAZING
the atmosphere is elegant and inviting when you enter you automatically feel welcomed and apart of the family. The garden is great for lunch and dinner. The food all across the menu has a taste straight from Italy. The prices cant be beat and you will look forward to the next time you go.
We ate outdoors in the garden, which is urban but still it is outdoors and has atmosphere. The food was great, the house red wine was excellent and the service was very good. The owners are Neopolitan. They have a pizza oven which warms up the restaurant. It would have been too warm to eat indoors. The dessert was real italian, as were many of the patrons. I was surprised the restaurant wasn't crowded. Viva brooklyn!! Enjoy.
Pros: great salads, pasta
If you want great pizza delivered with a warm and friendly personality, then you must visit Luna rossa. Their entire spread of pizzas makes you feel as if you're in Naples having a slice. If you're in the neighborhood, stop in and give it a try .... You will not be disappointed!!!
estos son los detalles, me parece muy bueno como esta el resto, se come muy bien y la verdad que volveria sin ningun inconveniente... bla bla bla bla bla
Pros: la mejor!
If I had 10 thumbs I would give them all UP!!! I was referred by a friend to this restaurant and It was the best place to spend my night. I drove from Connecticut (an hour drive) to check this restaurant, and it was all worth it. The service was the best, the staff was warm and very helpfull with the menu. I started with the baked clams and they were fresh and tasty. The BRICK OVEN pizza was like no other.
I will be back at least twice a month. I recomend this restaurant to the entire world.
Pros: EASY TO FIND, EASY TO ORDER AND GREAT MUSIC
I am from Naples, Italy and I have eaten the best pizzas...the taste of the pizza at Luna Rossa makes me feel like I am back in Naples...I live in Manhattan and the trip to Luna Rossa is absolutely worth it!!!
Luna Rossa is the best new restaurant in our neighborhood in YEARS!! We have a born and bred Italian from Napoli in our family (and a chef at that) so our standards are very high for Italian food and especially pizza. We are amazed at how many places in the city and Brooklyn say that they make authentic artisanal Napolitan pizza and then just serve regular American pizza cooked in a wood burning oven. The owners of Luna Rossa make a gorgeous pizza, so good you might find it hard to go back and eat any other. The rest of the menu is also very good, fantastic salads and pasta and lovely daily specials. The atmosphere may not be super chic or fashionable, but the quality of the pizza and food in this little cozy neighborhood pizzeria keeps us coming back week after week. You can also find any number of Italian families filling up this place every night and the sound of Italian being spoken while you eat a lovely Margarita dripping with buttery fresh mozzarella just adds to the experience.....
I have tried a lot Pizzerias in Manhattan and Brooklyn after several years I finally found Luna Rossa. I have been visiting the pizzeria since last year. Its still the best ,the pizza is soft, light, and the fresh mozzarella doesn't leak water onto the pizza. They cook it on a wonderful brick oven. The atmposhere is simple, nice, warm and welcoming. i definitely recommend it.
I've become a regular at Luna Rossa ever since I tasted it. I am very picky about my pizza, especially because I am spoiled for growing up in Italy and having tasted the real thing. Luna Rossa's pizza has a light and tasty crust, perfectly cooked in a brick oven and topped with delicious sauce and yummy melted fresh mozzarella. I always order the classic Margherita but my husband (who is from the Amalfi Coast in Italy and also is particular when it comes to pizza) has ordered a variety of different kinds. Try the Salciccia e Friarielli for a spicy sausage and peppers pizza. When my family was visiting from Italy I took my dad here and he thought the Napoletana (tomato mozzarella and anchovies) was excellent. And affordable! It's hard to find a place that combines wonderful authentic pizza with affordable prices and a friendly casual ambience. Luna Rossa does that for you. Check it out. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
I got a recommendation about Luna Rossa from a friend of mine saying that I had to go there. I went there with some friends of mine the other night and it was well worth the walk down Court St. Carroll Gardens has a lot of great restaurants, but Luna Rossa is really one of the better places I've been to. The pizza is amazing - exactly like what I had when I was in Italy. I've been to all the famous pizzerias in Brooklyn too - Grimaldis, L & Bs, etc but this is the real thing. I come from an Italian family so I know what good Italian food tastes like and this really matches up. You can tell that all the ingredients are fresh. Not only is the pizza good, but the entrees are fantastic. My friends had the fish of the day and a pasta dish and both were really flavorful. The wine list is full of great Italian Reds and Whites plus I hear they are going to start doing wine tastings soon. The ambiance is quite lovely; candle lit dinners, Italian music, just a charming little place. The staff was very helpful and friendly and even the owner/pizza maker even came by to ask if the food was alright. Not only was the food very authentic but everything was very well priced. This is definitely one of the best kept secrets in Brooklyn and I recommend it for anyone!
Pros: Ambience, Well priced, Service, Authenticity
My wife and I just ate at Luna Rossa last night and it was incredible. The pizza is just like you find in Napoli, in fact it is the best since we have been to the famous Da Michele, for those of you who know true pizza Napoletana. For those who have not been as fortunate yet to have the best pizza in Naples, finally you can now have it at this place in Brooklyn. The pizzaiolo (pizza maker)/ owner is from Napoli and has only been in NY for couple years. You can see his passion for the art of making pizza and you can taste it in every bite ! He only uses the finest ingredients (mostly imported from Italy), and fresh Fiore di latte (similar to fresh mozzarella , but better for pizza), as they use in Napoli. It is cooked to perfection in the wood burning brick oven, which also adds to the cozy atmosphere. The food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing as well, although we only tried one of the bruschettas, which was excellent. We will definitely go back and try some of the other food as well, and will definitely be regulars for the fantastic pizza. We travel from midtown Manhattan, and it is worth the trip !
After living in Naples for several years, aside from the location itself, the thing I've missed the most is the pizza. There some close matches in NYC but Luna Rossa definately has it down to a T. And for a moderate price! Seriously if you are ever in the neighborhood you should check it out. I promise you wont be disapointed. Not in the mood for pizza? The pasta is cooked to perfection, and the sauces are to die for. They offer several mouthwatering entree's (I reccomend ANY of the dinner specials) all at crazy moderate prices. The atmosphere is cozy, small and warm really is a hole in the wall but It's perfect for a date, with family, or just by yourself. seriously if you ignore the outside you feel as if your just around the corner from la Piazza Bellini. Go before the word get's out!
Pros: Fantastic food, excellent service, (and they deliver)
Cons: short wine list. But I hear they're working on it!
I've been to Luna Rossa three times now. I had the margarita pizza and thought it was spectacular. The crust was just crispy enough and the pizza melted in my mouth. ... and believe me i'm a big pizza fan. I've had Grimaldi's and all the other great ones and, and even a pie from Naples. In my humble opinion this is the best most authentic italian pizza around.
By the way my dinner guests are still raving about the marinara - made fresh each day and the dessert. I had the gelato right off the boat from Italy.
I was invited to go have dinner at Luna Rossa and i have to say i am glad i went. I would recommend starting off with the anti-pasta special. It was the perfect appetizer. The pizza was amazing, i was very impressed. You have to try the pignolata for dessert. After all we ate we couldnt quite finish the desert so i took it home and it was still delicious the next day.
Brooklyn has a few great spots. Lucali's is super popular, Sam's is a pretty damn good pie, and there are other spots all over this area where I live, but I have to say Luna Rossa was probably the best pie I've had. The crust was crunchy on the bottom but soft in the middle and the ingredients were all fresh and simply delicious. I've only been once but will check it out again. It's a poor location though, no one really wants to dine under the BQE but I hope they survive..
This place is just the best. Not just great pizza, but excellent saltimboca sandwiches, salads, appetizers and mains. You can't beat the lunch specials and the service is quick and friendly. The food is always fresh and very tasty. Of all things, they have an amazing hamburger with sliced ham and asiago cheese. Also try the sausage and egg sandwich with fresh mozarella. The bread for the sandwiches is baked by the pizza maestro in the brick oven while you wait.. Try the spaghetti omelete. Yum! All just great and part of the lunch menu. I just keep going back to this place because it is clean, convenient, with fast service and the food is just great.
For dinner they up the ante with some amazing seafood specials. Try any fish livornese style. Just great with lots of olives and capers. The homemade pastas are delicious. Salads are beautifully presented and very fresh. They always have nice vegetables. Just ask. And of course, pizza. The mushroom pizza I had was served up with crimini, shitake AND oyster mushrooms. These folks are serious.
So the question is, is this a great restaurant masquerading as a pizza joint? Or has someone finally figured out what the neighborhood really needs? The prices are very reasonable. The lunch specials include great soup or a nice salad and are just $10. I really have to work to get my bill over $30 for dinner and most of the time it is about $20 or less. They now have beer and wine as well.
The only down side is that they deliver. ;-) So get off the couch, get out of the house and help make this place a nice joint to visit. They make great coffee and nice desserts as well. What more can one ask?
My girlfriend and I where down in Brooklyn about two weeks ago visiting friends. At the end of the day before we where about to leave to go back to Hoboken, we decided to get a bite to eat. When we where driving down Court St. to get to the tunnel we saw Luna Rossa and thought we would give it try. Well I am glad we did, Luna Rossa by far has the best pizza I have ever had, I wouldnt even put in the same category as pizza, it was that good. The restaurant was very cozy a great place to bring a date, and the service is outstanding. I will never order another pizza again unless it is from Luna Rossa, call me crazy but I drive all the way from Hoboken to Luna Rossa just to get pizza (belive me it is well worth going through two tunnels and traffic to have a slice of there pizza).
When you grow up in Brooklyn and you're Italian, you know what good pizza is so nothing's better than finding the real deal. This is the real deal! This new pizzeria is informal and inviting and just a few blocks up from the main drag on court street..no attitude, no wait , just excellent, and I mean excellent pizza!! The crust is light and delicious and the ingredients are fresh. You can really tell the sauce doesn't come out of a can and the toppings aren't loaded down with oil. The choices are authentic and there's a great pasta menu too, if you can manage to skip pizza when you come here. The service is friendly and it's just a great cozy place to warm up and have homemade food at a really reasonable price. I'll be making this my new stop this summer too(they have an outdoor garden I noticed when I was checking out the the brick oven). Great addition to the neighborhood and they deliver too.
Pros: Great food, Quality, Value, Service
Finally a good place to eat pizza with the pleasure to be served from guys who actually know what they are doing and who came from the place where the pizza was born. I work in the restaurant business and I love to eat food and in particular I'm crazy about pizza. I was walking with my wife at court street in Brooklyn and I saw this pizzeria ....nothing fancy... wood tables with simple furniture and this smell coming out of pizza...
We went in ..sat ...the waiter kindly introduce himself and I ordered the " salsiccia e friarielli" ( sausage and broccoli rabe) pizza and my wife ordered a pizza suggested by the waiter with mozzarella cream ham and corn.....delicious.....Pizza ..the crust was perfect and I tasted the freshness of the ingredients.
Well at the end nice experience good service( I also ask the waiter couple questions about some dishes in the menu and I was happy with his explanations ) great pizza... We really hope to come back soon to try something else in the menu maybe a good pasta or seafood.
Outstanding service, great food and very authentic atmosphere! Almost like being in Naples. Highly recommend for those seeking "real" pizza!
Pros: Very authentic, affordable and great service.
Cons: None to report.
Let start off with saying that I love pizza and I go where the pizza is amazing. I've been all over NYC looking for great pizza like I found in Naples, Italy and I think I finally found it. This brand new restaurant in the Carroll Gardens area of Brooklyn is located at the end of Court St between W9th and Garnett, it might be alittle further down Court St but its well worth the walk... I've been there a few times with my girlfriend and some friends and I was amazed by the taste of the pizza. The crust is something special it just melts in your mouth... I've also had other things on there menu and they were just great for example the Scialatelli ai frutti di mare were just amazing, the bruschette were excellant and there salads were also very good. I'm pretty sure that everything on the menu is good and with time I will be able to tell u because I think its going to be a main stay for me....
PS Don't forget the get there before 3pm to try one of there amazing Homemade Saltibocca sandwiches.
Pros: Food, Service, B.Y.O.B with no charge
Cons: no wine yet, but they said they will have it soon
