When it comes to beauty, I will admit I am a total snob. I search far and wide for whose best at what and make sure I do my homework on them before even considering calling their business. I found Amy Kernahan from the internet and quickly read great reviews and when I asked some people I know in the beauty industry they HIGHLY recommended her. I called her salon a bunch of times asking tons of questions before I finally decided to go in and consult with her. The second I saw her I knew I was in the right hands and decided to do the permanent makeup for my brows and upper and lower eyeliner. One look at her and you can just know from her confidence and energy she loves what she does and now I can agree with those who recommend her that she is THE BEST at what she does. I know so many people who have done permanent makeup elsewhere and they loved it and I hated it because it looked so harsh. Amy's approach is so natural makes you look effortless. Also, when you call the salon with a question, AMY herself calls you back! AMAZING customer service and just a pleasure dealing with Amy and her staff. I went with the natural look, but Amy can do whatever your preference is. Like i said at the start of my review I am a beauty snob, I have been to all the "best in NY" places and Amy's studio is truly a one of a kind business.

Amy is AMAZING. For us girls who know the importance of perfect brows, you should look no further than Amy. She is sweet, kind, and very talented. She did my makeup for my wedding and it was fabulous. I can't say enough about how wonderful she is and how talented she is as a make-up artist and brow shaper. I get compliments all the time about my eye brows and its thanks to her

OMG! I have had the best experiences at Amy's studio...I am a man who normally does not enjoy the experience of walking in to get my eyebrows done. Most men have that uncomfortable feeling walking into the realm of traditional female environments. However, when I first spoke with Amy and her staff I was immediately made to feel comfortable. The studio is clean, inviting, and I felt like a VIP the first time and every time since. You cannot beat the ambiance and location. I had been hearing the ?UNI-BROW? comment for years and I now get compliments on, not only my brows, but also my "look" in general. I get asked often if I have done something different. Needless-to-say Amy has made me feel and look amazing! I highly recommend ANYONE to visit and experience this NYC gem for themselves!

Nine years wasted on wavering where and if at all I should get permanent eyebrows. This indecision stemmed from anxiety until I saw Amy at a consultation this May. She was very receptive to my ?demands? and offered her professional insight on the best brow shape for my facial contour. Amy?s crafty efforts produced an end result that restored my confidence and permanently wiped out the dreadfully time consuming task of penciling. I am eternally obliged to Amy (AKA my newly found makeup artist) :)

Upon visiting the studio I was treated with the upmost professionalism. It was my first time meeting with Amy....she was very descriptive when discussing the brow shape that would best compliment my face. I was very pleased with the results and thought it was definitely worth the money!!! I have already scheduled my next appointment knowing that she books up rather quickly!

I went to the Amy Kernahan Studio for the first time last week to see Dani. Dani has been doing my brows for a few years now at John Barrett until she recently moved to Amy's location. I loved the location and the space is great....very zen-like. My brows, as always looked great. I definately recommend Dani to everyone!

Found Amy after seeing her demonstrate a "10 Minute Face" to one of Matt Titus' clients on "Matched in Manhattan" ( a dating show on Lifetime TV.) She is fabulous at brow shaping too, and her studio is a bright, inviting place with a great staff. You will not be disappointed. Call! Go!

I find these "reviews" extremely ODD. First of all, they are all these lengthy stories all saying what a good person Amy is, how many years they have known her etc... and the posts are so close together. 11/27/2007 was a VERY popular day to write I guess. They all seem to be fluff written by the same person. I don't think it's fair to mislead people...that's all.

Amy is not only the absolute BEST at everything she does, she makes you feel COMPLETELY at ease and EXTREMELY comfortable making you trust her instantaneously! I am in beauty/fashion PR and Amy by far is the most talented professional out there. After contemplating eyebrow pigmentation for YEARS (had my reservations on who to turn to since I am asian) but after knowing more than several people (of all ethniciites) that were so happy with her work, I finally made the BEST decision of my life! I will always go to her. She not only has a true passion for her work but also cares a great deal about her clients. Amy has also done my makeup as well as many other people I know and I know that everyone agrees that she truly has a special gift....

i used to go to Dani at the John Barrett Salon and followed her to her current location at the Amy Kernahan Makeup Studio. she is a miracle worker at brows! you can definitly be assured to walk away with beautifully shaped brows!!! she also did eyelash extensions on me and they are sooooo good. i got so many complements saying my lashes looked fabulous and how natural they looked. dani used such precision applying the lashes, placing each lash in the perfect spot. my lashes looked so long and full; no mascara needed!!!!!!!

I had heard only great things about Amy and all the treatments she does at her studio so i decided to go and get the permanent make up procedure done on my brows. i have been filling my brows in for years and after hearing about this hot new makeup tread i wanted it done and wanted only to go to the best. and she was!!!! amy was extremely gentle (no pain during the procedure or after)and created such a natural look. i walked out of her studio seriously feeling like a new person. no longer do i painstakingly have to fill in my brows . now i have natural looking and beautifully shaped brows with absolutely no fuss!!! i recommend amy to everyone and after seeing her studio and how amazing her work is i will definitly be back for other treatments!!!!!!!!!

Growing up in a house full of boys, I was totally clueless about makeup. I always dreaded going to makeup counters and have makeup caked on my face. A friend of mine suggested that I come in to the studio for a brow shaping. Not only did I get a shaping, but I ended up booking a makeup lesson and am strongly considering micropigmentation for my brows!! I didn't feel like i was in a museum and Amy and her staff made sure i felt at home.Her brow and makeup techniques are amazing enough to convert even the toughest skeptics and tomboys!

Amy is amazing she does my eyebrow shaping and she has done my micro pigmentation for my eyebrows. My eyebrows look so natural I get comments about them all the time. And I love the new spray tan system. It really gives me this youthful glow. Which let's face it who doesn't want a youthful glow! And it not streaky. You honestly can't tell at all that I get spray tans. Myself and all my friends go to Amy and everyone raves about her. I can't see myself ever going to anyone else.

I have been going to Amy Kernahan for my eyebrows for a little while now. She is always really sweet. Not only is she great at eyebrows but she is a great person. She was telling me about this spray tan system she just got the last time I was there. So I gave it a try. I have very pale skin and I have been spray tanned before and I just ended up looking like a cheese doodle. But this was AMAZING. It was a very natural looking tan. And it is all organic. I loved it! So if anyone is looking for a spray tan girls or guys. LOOK NO FURTHER! She is great and she even can spray to make it look like you have a six pack. Who could ask for anything more?

Amy is truly the only person I can say that I would trust doing my brows. My brows are the best they ever looked thanks to her. Not only is she the kindest and sweetest person, she truly cares about what she does. I'm probably one of her biggest fans. I have turned many clients of mine to her. You need to try her once and you will be hooked.

About a year ago I went to a salon and got my eyebrows done. When they were done she hands me the mirror and poof no more eyebrows! It was terrible! I looked like a drag queen.(And a tragic one at that) So that was it for me I never wanted anyone to touch my eyebrows again. So after letting them grow I met a girl named Amy she told me to come to her studio and get my eyebrows done. I was hesitant considering what happened to me in the past but there was something about her that was very reasurring.So I went got my eyebrows shaped. I loved them so much. My eyebrows have never looked this good. I just recently got the micropigmentation on my eyebrows. I kid you not I have never had this many people comment on my eyebrows. A man literally came up to me and I quote " Hey ma I love the arch in your eyebrow." now if men notice your eyebrows(and I'm talkin' a straight man not your local queen) . Then you know they've got to be FIERCE! Thank you for everything Amy you are FABULOUS!

I have known Amy many years but most of the time, we have lived in different cities. Whenever I am in town, I make sure to visit Amy for her crafted talents. Her outgoing personality makes you comfortable the second you walk in the door. While she is working, she is gentle and professional, always explaining her process as she does something and also gives me extra tips to help me better manage my daily maintenance.
You truly will feel more beautiful and special the second you walk out the door, not only b/c of your fabulous brows, great makeup, etc but b/c Amy truly believes that all woman are beautiful and she will treat you as such.
Great heart, amazing artist, gifted person, you will feel lucky to know her.

For years I have done my own make-up and brows for fear of the crazed and tweezer-happy hands that typically are artists and aestheticians. Little did I know that in a cozy enclave in the Upper East Side was a woman who would turn my life around. I can say in complete earnesty that my eyebrows have never looked more shaped, defined, or tamed than they do now that I've met her---and as a self-proclaimed brow aficionado, that's sayin' a lot honey. Her makeup techniques range from natural to chic to glam to Lady Bunny; she has a look for everyone and can provide anyone with the look they want. From the atmosphere to the work to the customer service (the beautiful tangerine-haired young woman at the front is one of the studio's greatest assets) to the lady herself, Amy Kernahan Makeup Studio is a diamond in the not-so rough UES streets but she shines brighter than the rest no less.

I don't think people realize the importance of the eyebrow and what it can do for your eyes and face. They can frame and define your eyes if shaped well, as Amy does flawlessly. I am scared to think about what I might look like if I never met Amy. ( Probably Groucho Marx)
She is impeccable and precise and makes you laugh while she is tweezing and plucking. Her talent does not stop there- she is an incredible makeup artist and works her magic with such skill. She's personable, fun to be around, and her studio is so much fun you might just show up to hang out.

I?ve known Amy for a few years and I have always been amazed by her work. Whether she?s fashioning awesome brows, working her magic with makeup, or readying models for high end photo shoots, she always does an amazingly fantastic job. After I got engaged and booked my wedding date a few months ago, Amy was one of the first people I called ? I couldn?t have imagined anyone else taking care of my skin, brows or makeup leading up to or on my wedding day, I wouldn?t even settle for Trish McEvoy who my sister in law knows! After a couple of visits to her salon, Amy had my sparse eyebrows in tip top shape and taught me some skin treatment and makeup tips that had my complexion absolutely glowing. When I went for my wedding makeup trial session, she really took the time to listen to what I wanted and figured out what would work best for me. On the big day, Amy did a wonderful job on my and my sister?s makeup, I really couldn?t have been any happier. The colors and effects she chose were wonderful and the makeup lasted all day and looked really great in photos. I?ve recommended Amy to many of my friends for her great talent and her warm and friendly nature, she's absolutley wonderful to be around.

Amy recently did my makeup for my wedding. As my friends said at the wedding "She knocked it out of the park." It was absolutely beautiful and meticulously done. Prior to the wedding, she also did my eyebrows. They have never looked better. Amy is terrific (not to mention the sweetest) and I would recommend her to anyone.

I hosted a brow party for about ten friends and she improved the looks of everyone there! The feedback I got after was that people were commenting on their looks...saying they look great, asking what they did, but not quite figuring out it was an amazing brow shaping. She is also a warm person with a big heart. Amy donated ALL the proceeds from the party to help a specific orphanage in S. Africa that cares for children who have lost their mothers to AIDS.

As an artist in the industry myself I am constantly meeting talented people. I have known Amy for three years now and find her to be the most talented, gifted artist I have come across (Sorry other friends, don't hate me). Noone can do brows like Amy. She is also amazing at make-up, permanent make-up and airbrush. Everything she does is with such grace and fluidity. She is such a kind person as well. Not only am lucky to have her as my brow and permanent artist, but as a friend and mentor as well. She is a must see, you will never be able to have anyone else ever touch your brows again. She does phenomanal bridal make-up too!

I was referred to Amy a friend and my first appointment was getting my brows done for the first time in my life and getting my make up done for a friend's wedding. She put me at ease right away with her professionalism and kindness. She did an amazing job on both the brows and make up for which I received several compliments. I have been back to see her for my brows since then, I can't believe how much of a difference it makes for my face. She is the only person I'd trust with a tweezer to my face and I've already recommended her to all my friends.

I have shopped around in the eyebrow department and if you think you found the right person and it is not Amy Kernahan YOU ARE WRONG!!!! All I can say about Amy is that she is a true artist. She will make you feel like you have just received a facelift!!! Not only is she great at eyebrows she is outstanding as a makeup artist as well. Amy did my makeup for my wedding and I have to say I photographed very well. I have been married for six years and I still enjoy looking at my pictures. Amy's studio has a very relaxing and warm feeling to it. And if you are new to the city there is no one else that could make you feel right at home the way Amy can her personality is kind and genuine she is a true gem and NYC is so lucky to have her.

First of all let me say that I am a man (and straight). Now, i was skeptical about getting my eyebrows done, but i had a hot date and my brows were out of control and i couldn't have that...I heard about Amy from girlfriends who've gone to her and i'm so glad i did. Not only did she do a great job, but she was very gentle and professional. Her studio is clean and comfortable and her assistant couldn't have been friendlier. I will definitely go back to her in the future.
