we arrived on time, took 10 minutes to be seated (no complaints here). We were rushed to order, waitress would roll her eyes if you were not quick to respond to her constant "do you know what you want"s.

service was quick and food was decent, but as soon as we took the last bite (1 1/2 hours into our service to be exact), we were told that they needed the table and we needed to go to the bar if we wanted to stick around.

The ok food is not worth the attitude.

had a great dinner last night with 5 friends, i checked and the first seating is 7:30, so I made our reservation for 8PM. Once everyone arrived we were seated immediately (8:15) at the banquette in the front. Cute, kind waiter, good service. We drank bottles of prosecco and had lots of seafood: oysters, tuna tartar, mussels, and the scallop entree, all were delicious. Also the mac and cheese is good but too heavy on the truffle oil, the corn is fabulous. The mussels were very very spicy but I love heat, some girls couldn't eat them. Some sound absorbency would be nice we had to SCREAM at each other to hear but were having fun so didn't care... just an fyi. Best for either large groups or groups of 2, tables are close and not a lot of room.

I have been to Kingswood several times over the last month for both dinner and drinks. I actually stumbled across this place and have only had amazing experiences so was very surprised to read about other peoples experiences. Yes, the place is loud but that is kind of the fun thing. Its one of the few places you can go and get a drink in a great scene and then if you are hungry grab a really good meal too. Anyway, I hear they are changing the ceiling in the next couple of weeks which is going to address the situation. Everytime I have been there the staff have been really friendly and helpful. the sommelier takes the time out to come to all the tables and makes useful recommendations without making you feel like you have to spend lots of money.
I have tried most things on their winter menu...the coconut curry mussels are delicious and great to share at the bar if you just want a light meal. I also really like their lamb osso buco which was perfectly cooked and melts of the bone. my girlfriend eats the cod everytime which comes which is really light but so flavorsome. The scallop special was to die for. And of course those truffle fries!!

this place is definitely in my rotation and looks like it is here to stay.

The food was marginal. Nothing special offered here except a nice view of the park.
The hostess and waitstaff were INCREDIBLY affected and rude. At one point after being seated for a few minutes, we had to ask the waitstaff outright if they were in a hurry to get us out as we were not able to even look at the menu thoughtfully between their multiple visits to the table asking us if we were ready to order.

A member of our party lost his jacket, and instead of acknowledging the issue and diffusing the situation by either saying "that is terrible, we are sorry and if we can't find it, we will cut XX of the bill"....or "we'll give you a drink at the bar while we look" ...something any normal restaurant management would have done to ensure customer satisfaction.....but instead the hostess was outright rude, raising her voice and telling him in a very condescending manner that "mistakes happen" and he needed to "relax". The reason the customer was so upset about the jacket was not the actual loss, but the way he was being dealt with. This is not how customers should be treated after paying good money for a mediocre meal.

I would advise that you take your business to another trendy spot that knows how to treat paying customers, especially in this market.

my friend and I went here on a Friday night (btw- do not show up sober b/c the place is so loud you will have a headache within 10 mins)... after being sat at a table literally 2 inches away from our screaming neighbors, we asked to be moved b/c we could not hear ourselves talk or think... they moved us but long story short - the service was AWFUL- we were being served by the manager and literally had to get up and ask for something EVERY time we needed something and the only person who ended up helping us was the amazing busboy.... we ended up giving him a 25% tip and could not have been happier... over-priced, awful service and loud...but good locationand somewhat charming inside!

We kept getting told that our wait was 45 minutes....every 45 minutes. Sat at the bar, ordered some drinks, and the bartender ended up giving us some bread and EVOO. If the hostess hadn't been so rude to my friend, we might have stayed and stuck it out. The menu looked so so. There were a few items that looked ok, but not good enough to starve until 11PM. I mean, we were only in NYC until Sunday. ha. The place looked awesome, though. It was sooooooo crowded too.

Went in last saturday night, had the signature kingswood cocktail at the bar--great flavors. Was seated right away even though we were late getting everyone arrived, hostess was funny and nice.
liked the lamb but the cod was a little tasteless. great atmosphere--go when its busy, not for all-out fine dining. and dont miss the pavlova dessert. would go again.

I wanted to check out the australian restaurant Kingswood because i grew up in australia and was looking forward to it. i was on a date and thought it would be a decent place to take her. i got there early and asked for a table for two, it was raining out and my friend would be there shortly. i asked the 'Hostess' for a table for 2 she didnt ask me anything but 'come back when your both here' i noticed lots of extra tables so i thought " no worries" i waited outside....when my friend arrived we came in. asked for the table and she says 45 minutes. i told her i was here a half hour ago. she didnt care, she says 'get a drink at the bar' my freind and i both agreed that she was out of order and we left. its named after an old GM holden motor car. Be nice hostess & dont be a rude american in an australian restaurant !

8:30pm on a Thursday night my friend and I were seated without a reservation and without a wait. Our waitress was wonderful as were the other staff. Wine list was well chosen, even the dessert wines. We had the crab and avocado appetizer which was phenomenal, as was the risotto with ramps, fresh peas and prosciutto. After such filling appetizers we decided to split the burger which was extremely juicy and flavorful. Unfortunately while the desserts were definitely edible they were not memorable and next time we'll be saving our calories. We had the lemon tart with lemon sorbet and the peanut butter parfait. Left a lot to be desired. In agreement with other reviewers in terms of the loud atmosphere but I don't feel that it took away from the dining experience.

Just like many of the other reviews on here don't arrive thinking you will be seated right away. I came here with my girlfriend on a saturday night and we probably wait about 1 1/2 hours or so to be seated. We wound up having a few drinks at the bar and not really worrying about it. Its a little crazy in that area so if that's not your cup of tea, I wouldn't come here. Once we were finally seated the food was incredible and the service was great. It has a nice atmosphere. If we had been seated sooner I'd give it a higher rating but if you don't mind having a few drinks first definitely check this place out.

After making a late 9:30pm reservation, we were finally seated by 10:45pm. We were repeatedly told that we were about to be seated and that people at our table were simply paying. I would have believed this explanation if it weren't for the fact that we were seated about 45 minutes after. This simply spoiled the entire evening. Normal restaurants typically comp a free round of drinks or a free dessert but no apologies were made. Even after pointing out to the waitress that we waited 105 minutes to be seated, no apologies were given. Not one, "I'm sorry". I will say that the food was very good. I ordered the steak, and while it would not compare to any top steak restaurant in the city, it was fairly good for $27. The oysters, which was a special appetizer for the night, was nothing special. At the end of the day, take this restauarant for what it is. Its the place to go for now, because everyone says its great and this is where the beautiful people go. In about 6 months, this place will be long forgotten and will be replaced by yet another overcrowded, overhyped experience a few blocks away. Good luck. On a side note, why is this place rated 4 1/2 stars when you have just as many 1s as 5s. Interesting...

I went to Kingswood with 2 other friends and without a booking, we waited about an hour, but it was fine as the bar area is just awesome. Being an Australian, I was looking forward to having a meal at a New York restaurant owned by Aussies, so I went in with high expectations, and let me tell you, they were definitely met! Awesome food - the Risotto was out of this world, so so tasty, and my Steak was just as good, my friends loved their meal as well, and with only five days left in New York - I will definitely be going back before I leave! Nothing to complain about from me - wow... thanks for a great feed!

I've been to this restaurant 2 times in 2 weeks & have yet to be disappointed. Everything from the ambiance to the food is so extraordinary that I truly can't find anything to complain about. The first time I ordered the crab linguini as an appetizer & the chicken for my entree--both were superb....so much so, that the next time I went I ordered the linguini as my entree. The mussels are also awesome as well as the burger. Overall, a really trendy place that I will be frequenting as often as I can. Oh, & be sure to dress the part at this place--no A.B. allowed.

I used to come here when it was Jefferson, space still pretty much the same, only simple changes to the decor. But it looks pretty. Well, I think we made a mistake of going on a weekend. Kingswood was completely crowded. The crowd - a bit disappoitning. Very upper east side youngin's, but if thats your thing, then go. Ivanka Trump and the Johnson & Johnson heiress were there. But, I'm not a papparazo, so enough of that. Now the important stuff: the food. I must say, very good. The burger and fries was simply divine!! The Ruby's Bronte bruger has like a sweet relish on the burger and comes with truffle fries. Seriously delish!! I don't, however, recommend the oysters. The east coast were ok, but the kumamoto's well, they were just wrong (I personally thought they were an ill bunch). The rest of my party was also pleased with the food and the prices are reasonable for nyc. If the wait for our table wasn't so long and the crowd more subtle, I would have given 4 stars. I would recommend going on a weeknight to enjoy the food in, well, a state of harmony.

Cons: Crowd

I live right next to Rubys in Soho, where the food is always good (the Bronte is literally the best burger in NYC). Rubys is a tiny place and it is more like a neighborhood cafe with a really cool crowd. When the same guys opened Kingswood, I could not believe it. From the small neighborhood cafe to a top NYC restaurant. The place is amazing. The crowd is very cool and most importantly the food is delicious and everything is reasonably priced. I disagree with the other reviews that complained about "rudeness". The couple times I went there the owner as well as the host were very nice to us. It also doesnt hurt to wait at the bar, since the atmosphere is so cool. We have had the bronte, the cod and the mushroom risotto. All were very good. In any case, stop reading this review, get your friends and go there.

I used to live around the corner and now I wish I still did... just so I can come here more often! I have dropped by for drinks late at night, and had a light dinner here recently as well. The food and cocktails are pretty good overall, with a standout being the crab linguine - heaping amounts of crabmeat garnished with cherry tomatoes, so delicious. The space is beautiful, and the scene is reminiscent of what Stanton Social used to be - attractive without being too pretentious, trendy but not young. Kingswood has that rare combination of great atmosphere, enjoyable food and reasonable (though not cheap) prices.
The previous poster's comment seems naive - MANY New York restaurants look empty at 7 but in fact tables are reserved for later. Kingswood was definitely crowded both times I was there.

This place is filled with nothing but snobs, and I'm talking about the people who work there. I went there last night to meet a friend for drinks and dinner. I got there at 7PM, and the place was almost empty. I sat down at a table near the front, and while waiters and bus boys walked past and around me for ten minutes, no one asked me if I wanted a drink. I finally flagged down a waiter, and asked for some menus. He said the front area was only for cocktails since they had a big party, and that they couldn't seat me in the back because I didn't have a reservation. The restaurant was mostly empty! With an attitude like that, I left and went to Village around the corner, where we were able to sit in the bar area AND eat food AND have good service and DIDN'T need a reservation. So, avoid Kingswood since they will treat you as anything but a king.

Went to Kingswood for the first time last night. I was meeting my friend there and she was running late. The staff was so nice and let me sit at a table until my friend arrived. My friend had been there once before and they all remembered her. Bartender was so nice and fun to talk to. The owners are very cool and friendly. The decor is beautiful. Although we didnt eat, everything looked delicious and other customers were raving about the food. I will definitely come back!

I guess that's why they created soft openings... disappointed with the experience. For $25 I expected my steak hot. It was stone cold, along with the potatoes and the poor excuse that was watercress garnish.Truffle hollandaise? Tasted very much like a bland cream sauce. Friend had Monk fish curry- good in theory, but very poor execution. Fish was overcooked and chewy, rice was doused in salt and cooked in the microwave (uncle ben's?). Other friend had ruby's bronte burger. This was decent, but would just go to their other place for the same thing but not as expensive. Skipped dessert, eaton mess? what is it? no thanks. Servers confused with the concept of organised service, then again they just opened. The host was friendly and made an effort at getting us to the table quickly. Nice crowd to look at. Before I go back these aussies need to step it up, big time.

Servers confused with the concept of organised service, then again they just opened. The host was friendly and made an effort at getting us to the table quickly. Nice crowd to look at. Before I go back these aussies need to step it up, big time.

Pros: attractive people

Cons: food

This chic Australian-English eatery serves up tasty fare, including the beloved Ruby's Bronte burger, which comes with a sweet chili sauce and a side of truffle fries. If you're not in the mood for a burger, try the roast pumpkin galette…
