Established yesteryear, the BLIND PIG is NYC's hottest new watering hole, that hearkens back to the days of Prohibition. A BLIND PIG, roaring 20s slang for a speakeasy, is all you'd hope for from a bar of that classic era: Good drinks, Good food, Good times. ...BUT, SHHHH!!!

Editorial by Citysearch

In Short
With its floors, tables, benches and bar all made of wood, this unassuming Union Square watering hole is dressed like an old-school hideaway. But despite those trappings, it still offers modern-day amenities like flatscreen TVs for game-watching and music videos coordinated with whatever's playing through the loudspeakers. A mixed bag of laid-back drinkers passes through in waves, encouraged to return by the fun-loving bartenders.

Hits: It's a nice alternative to the neighborhood's more collegiate bars.

Misses: Wander in on a Friday night when there's no big game, and it may feel a bit depressing, especially when there's no music.

Key Points

  • Eat, Drink, Watch a Game
  • After-Work Parties Welcomed
  • Outdoor Seating

  2. Food Served - A lengthy menu of pub grub (including chicken fingers, sliders, and mac and cheese) is served until 2am.
  3. Fun Fact - "Blind pig" was a slang term meaning "speakeasy" during Prohibition.

  5. Happy Hour - Swing by before 8pm any day of the week for discounts on well drinks and domestic drafts.

Come out feeling like one

by Suzy O. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 414

Fun bar but very tempting to have one too many. Lots of college students. Nice place to hang out with friends. I often recommend it to people looking for a relaxed and friendly bar.

Awesome place!!!

by partyduck

I don't know what some of the other reviewers are talking about. Maybe they were at another bar! The staff was great, had a fun time. At one point it was crowded and it got very loud in there. I couldn't hear my friends too well but other than that it was awesome!!!

Pros: great bar, great staff

Cons: loud, crowded

Nice bar, but...

by itneverpaystoberude

I have never been to a bar with so many rules, yes, rules, that must be followed in order to obtain a drink, food, etc. And the waitresses and managers were some of the most unpleasant people I have ever encountered in the service industry. The sign on the wall says it all, "the bartender is always right"...The last time i checked, the customer is always right...

Pros: Lots of tvs, good specials

Cons: Grumpy waitresses, managers, etc.

Great Brunch Special

by sak941

This bar is located right near my apartment. I have been there for a few drinks at night and also for their Saturday and Sunday brunch special - they offer a great deal with unlimited bloody mary's and mimosas. It is a perfect Saturday afternoon spot!

Good Ol' Reliable

by Chaser11

Blind Pig is a good old reliable establishment. In the mood for a place to throw a birthday party or pick up some chicks on a saturday night... Blind Pig's your place. Weeknight and you wanna grab a drink and get some grub - Blind Pig is the place to do it - food is great. Wanna get together with your buddies and watch the game - Blind Pig's your place.

Great New York bar that has so much nostalgia, you'd think it was around a lot longer than it actually has been.

Best bar staff in the city.

Pros: bar staff

i READ A COUPLE OF THESE REVIEWS AND JUST HAD TO SAY MY PART

by muffinman26

i AM AT THIS BAR ALMOST EVERY WEEK. iT IS A MIXED CROWD OF PEOPLE WHICH IS SOMETIMES A GOOD THING, SOMETIMES A BAD. OBVIOUSLY IF i KEEP GOING BACK, i MUST LIKE IT. tHE FOOD IS GREAT, NOT THE QUALITY TO BE EXPECTED FROM A BAR AT LEAST. tHE STAFF IS ALWAYS WORKING, MEANING....DOING THEIR JOB. WHICH IS A PLUS, I ASK FOR SOMETHING AND i GET IT... PERFECT IN MY WORLD. SOME OF THE CUSTOMERS FEEL THEY CAN DO AS THEY PLEASE THOUGH, i HAVE NEVER WITNESSED THIS BEFORE -PRIME EXAMPLE.... 5 GIRLS THROWING BEER ALL OVER EACH OTHER AND THE TABLES NEXT TO THEM AT 8PM....CANT HANDLE YOUR BOOZE? TRY A POSH LOUNGE WITH A PINK LIGHT SETTING. AS FOR MJ, THE MAIN REASON WHY I GO AND WHY MOST GO BACK, I FEEL. MJ IS ONE OF THE BEST BAR KEEPS IN THE BUSINESS. I USED TO SEE HIM WHEN HE WORKED AT ROCKY SULLIVAN'S (RIP), AND THE WHOLE ROOM WOULD BE CRYING WITH LAUGHTER, HES A BALL BREAKER, IF YOU'RE TOO SENSITIVE I AM SURE AFTER YEARS OF COUNSELING THESE SADDENED FEELINGS WILL ONLY DERIVE FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD WHEN YOUR MOTHER CURSED AT YOU ONCE WHEN YOU LIVED IN BUMBLE **UCK OHIIO. BOTTOM LINE, iTS A STAFF FILLED WITH CHARACTERS, FOOD IS GREAT, AND THE BOOZE IS ALWAYS FLOWING BTW IM SRY TO HEAR PPL COULD ONLY SEE THE OLYMPICS ON TWO TV'S.... ROUGH LIFE WE LEAD. GO THERE HAVE SOME LAUGHS AND HAVE A COUPLE OF DRINKS.... MAYBE YOU'LL SEE ME ON MJ'S SIDE OF THE BAR ON A FRIDAY NIGHT LAUGHIN' MY AS* OFF WITH A FULL DRINK IN FRONT OF ME.

Pros: STAFF & FOOD

Cons: CLOSES AT 4AM

awesome food comfortable atmosphere friendly staff

by jerkstore64

Its awesome to able to go to a bar for Sunday Football and get great wings and a loud rowdy fun crowd and come back next week for a (hungover) saturday afternoon and be able to sit around for hours in a booth and get a satisfying brunch (french toast!) and enough mimosas to make sure you get nothing productive accomplished that day. They have a beer garden in the back that I love for after work drinks. And it's one of the few bars I've been to in the neighborhood where the waitresses and bartenders actually recognize you when you come back.

Pros: Food, service, atmosphere, lots of tv's, food, secluded beer garden

Cons: can't smoke in beer garden, not open 24hrs

A Great Sports, Food and Drink Haven

by gorsox

I have been to the Blind Pig several times and have been truly impressed. The food is certainly much better than most Pubs around town, with the Mac and Cheese as well as cheesesteak wrap being two of my favorites. The sandwiches are delicious and can also be ordered as wraps. The menu is creative and certainly raises the bar in NYC in regards to restaurants of it's ilk. It is spacious, yet because it does great business, there is always a pleasant buzz. Being a Red Sox fan in a NY can be tough, but not at the Blind Pig. They are always willing to cater to their patrons, which is not always easy with all the sports from which to choose. I have been alone, as well as in big parties and have always been treated with respect, as well as receiving great service. The bartenders are very attentive as well as the waitstaff. I have been to a lot of sports bars in NYC and the Blind Pig is truly a place of destination for me. I eat out a lot, so many menus can become boring in short order, however I always look forward to an evening at the Blind Pig. One more thing, the wines are terrific!!

Pros: Big Screens Galore, Great Food, Grog and Service

Cons: Having to go to my day job after a night there

Owner/Manager is a Blind Pig

by PandaLuca

Last night I was invited out by some friends to enjoy the Olympics at what was supposed to be a nice bar pub in the Village. At the start of the evening, things moved smoothly, average bar food, nice pints of beer and a friendly waitress. Throughout the night myself, friends and the customers around us were wondering why out of the 7 screens the place uses for sporting showcases, why was the Olympics only being shown on 2 screens? I mean really it is the Olympics, they only happen once every 4 years! Finally we got a 3rd screen going and out of no where someone changes the channel. The 3 tables next to us, all start to hoot and hollar, it is a bar! So yes, boos and loud shouts did come from the customers. Wow! Were we rudly awakened to a monster "bar owner/manager" screaming at us about how he can do whatever the hell he wants (not to mention other ridiculous language, considering we are the customers!)! Seriously, the bling pig was in action! It was a sad showcase for a bar that can become one of the coolest sports hang outs on 14th street. Too bad I will never go back, and the poor waitress that has to deal with that pig of an manager.

Great Space...Ugly Managerial Attitude

by joiride75

This place has great potential. I like the bar and all the TV's and screens. I have been there twice and both times the bartenders did not seem to care that our group was watching a sporting event and changed the channel. Specifically last night, we were watching the Olympics and the manager/owner changed the channel to some old Yankees game. A couple of tables wanted to have changed back and yes, we booed. He started yelling at us that it was his bar and that basically he can do whatever he wants. Well it's our money that is keeping the place going. Our waitress was attentive and we were sorry she had to work for such an ogre. Food was okay.

Pros: TV's Big Screens

Cons: Not friendly

Not a good place to hang-out at.

by i8apple

My friends and I usually hang out by the village, but decided to try a new area. Heard about Blind Pig and decided to give it a try. Worst decision ever, I was there recently and the manager was so rude. My friends and I were just having a good time, and the manager decided to be rude to us and kicked us out. The reason being...we were being loud and roudy in a "family style restaurant". Hello? Does he not realize this is a bar and ppl are drinking and trying to have a good time. Maybe this guy ought to be guarding prisoners in a penitentiary and NOT in a BAR.

Pros: Lots of TV

Cons: Rude Manager

WORST PLACE EVER

by helios910

I was there Friday night with a group of my girlfriends. The manager was rude and the service was only okay.

This place is infamous for being rude to it's customers. Do not go here... DO NOT... there's a million bars in the city and this one is not worth your time, money or tips..

Pros: tv screens

Cons: rude manager

Terrible customer service

by peanut33

Manager was very rude for some reason when we asked him about the bar. I did not like the service at all, very unfriendly place and service, which I would hope would be better considering how below average the food was. We will not visit or recommend, there are plenty of places in this city worth my patronage. Next.

Pros: its got a bathroom

Cons: everything

Tried A Couple of TImes, MIserable Both Times

by youhaddabethere2

I had been to blind pig before on a date. It took forever to get a drink and was not crazy with the staff. But I believe in giving everything a fair shake so went there again when friends were in town. I have to say it was even worse than before. The bartender was very rude, took a good 15 minutes to stand there and curse out a patron while there were like a million people waiting to be served. Now mind you I am a bartender myself and know how things work. But the bartender here was on a serious power trip. After waiting politely for half an hour at the bar for a drink i just gave up and left.

Pros: Ok Music and Apparently good food. though did not try any

Cons: Almost everything

Perfect for couples or groups

by Godzuki24

Have to say that the staff at the BP do an amazing job of keeping customers happy. I hosted a group of 25+ people for a happy hour, and everyone from the bus boys to the managers made my group feel welcome. The menu shows some pretty standard fare, but it tastes better than most pub grub. The bar tenders and waitresses are NYC skilled and give as much as they take. The selection is good, and prices are even better. At the risk of sounding like a schill for the place, I was glad to host and event here and with the warmer weather upon us am glad they have outdoor seating both in front and in back. Glad to have found the BP and looking forward to coming back.

Pros: Location, Service, Professionalism

Blind Pig is a great neighborhood bar. They have plenty of tv's to watch a game and they pull in out of town networks so you can catch your team play. They also serve tasty finger foods and the service is excellent. In a nutshell, Blind Pig is the perfect neighborhood bar.

by Phyl363

I went to meet a couple of friends at Blind Pig one day for Happy Hour. They had some good beers on draft and some tasty finger foods. The bartenders were really friendly as were the many people I met just hanging there. Blind Pig was a cool neighborhood bar. There were also lots of good vantage points for watching the many tvs.

Nothing special

by enzyme9x9

Was there on thursday night for happy hour w/ coworkers. The place was relatively empty. The service was lackluster and the bartender chicks have serious attitude problems- sighs, snide remarks, and impatience. The bald bartender dude also messed up our order and still charged us half for his own dumb mistake. Not sure if these characters are only there on Thurs but i def/ wont go back.

Pros: lots of flatscreen tvs

Cons: service / attitude

AAAAHHHH YES, The Pig

by jklippel

A great spot all together. They take great Food, great decor, and great employees and MAKE IT HAPPEN. Go hear for some great drinks and watch a game on the flatscreens. The place gets packed on Thursdays and Fridays for happy hour. The main bartender at the pig MJ, is NYC best when it comes to slinging a drink and kicking some a**!! Overall a great bar and a great NYC watering hole! I'm not an owner or investor, so hopefully Tomburg (2 reviews down) will take a pill...

Great Down to Earth Bar

by stuytowncaveman

Went there on a Sunday to catch some of the football games, the place was great, there was a crowd, but its big enough that it wasn't cramped at all. We ordered some of the usual bar food (wings, burgers, tidbits, etc) and all of it was fantastic. Had a great time. Went back for a happy hour and it was also good, very relaxed atmosphere, much better than some of the other Bridge and Tunnel Trash specials in midtown.

Pros: Atmosphere

Cons: Going to get too popular I bet

Happy Hour couldn't be happier

by rustyl

No usually a review guy or a critic, but I had to give a shout out to this "speakeasy" near union square. This fairly new bar has reached the top when it comes to customer service and good people. I had to plan a surprise going away part for my brother and couldn't decide on where to have it. This place was recommended to me by a friend and I we booked it. Working with the owner was the first inclination that it would be a success, he catered to my every need and then followed through when it was go time. We had family, friends and this bar covered all types of bar goers. The food was EXCELLENT, I would go here just for dinner. The music was awesome. All in all it was a great night and I would recommend it to anyone for a cocktail after work, a family party or a night of debauchery.

Pros: Phenomenol Food

Cons: More bartenders

Beautiful bar with great food and beer selection

by girlykat

I've been to Blind Pig twice - once for dinner and a second time for just drinks. It is a beautiful space with hardwood floors and exposed brick, and by NYC standards it is HUGE. They have a good number of tables which are available for either dinner or drinks. My boyfriend and I shared a few appetizers for dinner and the food was great. I especially recommend the jalapeno poppers which are some of the best I've had. They have a good beer selection (I am always happy to see Hoegaarden on a menu) and the wine list is extremely reasonably priced. I didn't try any of their signature cocktails, but they look delcious and the prices are a reasonable $8-10 (versus the usual $12+ you'll see for designer cocktails in Manhattan). The bottom line is, this is a great bar for beer and sports (check out the great TV setup) or for a couple of glasses of wine with a girlfriend. Also, single ladies - the place is chock full of dudes, so the numbers are definitely in your favor on the weekend.

Pros: Jalapeno poppers, atmosphere, delcious frosty Hoegaarden

Cons: On our first visit, the waitress was a bit icy

Awesome place to watch a game

by mcb28

I can't say enough good things about this bar. The Staff is first rate from the Bouncer at the front door to the waitstaff to the bartenders to everyone in the kitchen and the management. It's a great place to unwind after work or to meet up with friends to watch a game, they have tv's on every wall. I have been there a few times and have had a great time everytime. I would recommend this bar to everyone I know except people I don't like because then I would have to see them hanging out in my new favorite bar, and unfortunately for me they would come back again and again.

Pros: Great bartenders wait staff and kitchen staff which makes the food and drink that much better

Cons: Closes at 4:00 AM

Very cool new spot. To be honest, I thought the best part about this place is it's surprisingly good food. The burger comes on an English muffin, and the rare waffle fries. Cool/chill vibe with plenty of TVs. Attentive service and bartenders. ...Actually finding myself coming back quite often... a definite must for happy hour.

Pros: Ambience is chill and never too, too crowded.

by marytwohig

I am pretty picky when it comes to bars, but couldn't be happier with The Blind Pig. I've been there for a Thursday night happy hour, a Friday night game, and a Saturday night birthday party and had a great night each time. The bartenders are exceptionally friendly and generous (something that is hard to come by in decent bars in the city). The bar gets a good crowd, but hasn't been overwhelming any time I was there. The decor is gorgeous with large seating areas that can be reserved for groups. The music is fun and they even show the videos on the exposed brick wall late night which is quite entertaining. I would highly recommend it!

Pros: bartenders, good space

I stopped in with my Dad one evening on his recent visit. Very comfortable and inviting decor, and the atmosphere was upbeat and lively, not loud or obnoxious as can often be the case. Finally!

by danger70

Finally, a new place that reminds me of why I like to go out for a few drinks among real people. In this native's 35+ years, there have been too many real bars closing down in favor of trendy hotspots that disappear in 18 months after the lowlives get bored with it. The Blind Pig is a real man's bar sprinkled with some down to earth cuties. If you want to catch a game or mingle- the Pig is the place.

Pros: Not a lot of tourist traffic!

Cons: Didn't want to leave at 4AM.

I am so glad this place just opened on 14th! It is a just the perfect spot for a drink or two on the way home from work OR a big night out on a weekend with friends. I have taken so many different friends here and all enjoy the great music and fun atmosphere. I was also pleasantly surprised that the kitchen is open till 2 every night in case hunger strikes again late night. This is definately the place to go relax have a meal and watch your team win. There is always a good crowd with a nice mix of ladies coming for a drink after work and guys settling in for the game. Whether I am by myself or with a large group the staff is always more than accomodating. It is more of an upscale sportsbar than some hole in the wall and I can bring everyone from co-workers or even a date to this place with a guarantee that they will enjoy the evening. That is, as long as the Mets win!

Pros: TVs, music, crowd

Cons: wish it was closer to my house
