My friends and I went for a drink there on Thursday night - there aren't too many Korean restaurants outside of K-town that are good, but this place was pretty decent. The interior decorations were relaxing and interesting- children's hanbok hanging on the walls and dark wood paneling. We shared a fish soup and a pitcher of watermelon soju. YUM!!! The service was great and decent prices. Definitely taking my other friends there.

I have to admit right now that I no nothing of Korean food. And when I admitted this to my waitress, she failed to seize her opportunity to help me out. Not that I was expecting a class or anything. I asked her what was the house specialty and she told me she didn't know. I asked her what I should try and she said "aynthing". I ordered the pork belly and was fine with that. I was able to presuade our waitress to give me some guidance about how to eat it (make a sandwich with cabbage and radish). My date's sliced beef was good. I love to try new foods, but I'm just not seeing the appeal of this cuisine. I don't know why the service was so rushed but I guess I would try this place again. At least it looked cool.

Pros: Good prices, nice decor, fun neighborhood

Cons: unhelpful service--but still professional

The food was great, the pricing was decent, the service was good, the atmosphere was fun, and then after dinner you can wander around a interesting neighborhood. What more can you ask for. I've only been here twice this year and each time I couldn't find any faults to it. Though I had ppl say the bathroom was weird - but thats their own style.

I love Korean food so I can get pretty picky with Korean restaurants but this place was a great uunexpected find. It really has authentic Korean food that not only tastes great but at a very reasonable price. Try the kalbijim which is the beef rib stew, it is really good as an entree, one of the best beef dishes I've tried in any Korean restaurant including the ones in Korea!!! Also, the space was nice, a little on the open lofty style side but I liked the decorations and the overall vibe. Service was friendly but a little sloppy but the food was good enough and the place comfortable that I didn't really mind it.

The bar gets hopping but there is a corridor separating the dining section so the noise doesn't intrude on your dinner. Overall, one of the better Korean restaurants in Manhattan and its great that it happens to be in the East Village.

I just went there yesterday, it was really good. As Korean, i'm telling you guys, this place is really nice. I haven't checked all foods but what I ate was really good. Foods are good, and the interior design is really nice, a service is good. And price also pretty reasonable(not inexpensive but). ah, and watermelon soju was really good. I and my friends loved that.

Not good at all . As a lover of Korean food and asian person this is not my choice pick within the city. Stay away from this korean restaurant off the beaten path of Korean Town(Hearld Sqaure 34th Street) I order the Bimbibop and my girlfriend order the pan fried clear noodle with beef. It was ok, the decor is nice. If you want a simple Korean fix, its for you but if you want good Korean food stick with K-Town. If you head there i suggest Bon Chon Chicken

My husband and I come here probably once every two weeks. We love this place. The staff is always very friendly and the service is good. At first we thought if was going to be one of those "trendy" places that does Korean with a spin or something....we were relieved that it was just good old fashioned Korean dishes cooked well...they even have metal chopsticks!

My g/f loves to eat korean and to avoid going to K-town and looking for parking I decided to do my research and find a new korean restaurant. I found Gama and afterall the high reviews gave the place a shot. We went with 2 other friends and we all couldnt of been more pleased. The watermelon soju is refreshing but it wasnt quite what I was looking for. We had three appetizers, Kimchi scallion pancake, seafood scallion pancake and dok bugi (spicy rice cakes). My g/f said it was the best rice cakes she ever had. The pancakes were also just as good we only got 3 appetizers but they were huge conaidering we ordered te small versions. For entrees my g/f got a vegetarian dish she liked but couldnt finish cause it was so much. My friends got japchai (glass noodles) and the LA Kalbi (short ribs). I ended up with the Boolguki which was cooked well and had alot of meat. The Kalbi dish was a little short changed though only like 8 or 9 short ribs. Overall it was a big, filling dinner and well worth the price as it didnt bust our wallets. The service was very attentive and very pleasant. Ambience was nice too didnt feel crowded at all and hae alot of space to stretch out. The bathroom is something to visit I think it used to be a barber shop or something cause I felt like I was going into the batcave. But like I said its def a highly recommended place and my g/f and I def cant wait to go back to try other things on the menu.

All in all, this new addition to the St Marks area is a fun option to check out. Don't be intimidated by the idea of a korean restaurant/bar(bar in the front, restaurant in the back) in this area, its a place that people from all walks of life hang out...from the punk rocker to the wall st types. I'm not sure what that other person was talking about when they were saying that the bartenders were inattentive....cuz from my experiences from being there( I have been there about 5 or 6 times in the past month ), they have been nothing short of great and friendly....they always greet you with a smile, and something like that can be good especially after a long day of work. the drinks are good, decent beer selection and you got to try the WATERMELON SOJU...they have it made in a hollowed out watermelon!!! A MUST TRY!!

it can get crowded on the weekends, but the more the merrier, no?

overall, a fun and cool place to unwind and enjoy good drinks and eats.

i have no idea what gama means, but id recommend this place!!

I went out to this spot the other night for dinner with couple of friends. When I got there i was amazed in how accomidating the place was with our group. With date friendly lighting and so many choices on the menu, its easy to lose yourself in trying to decide what to eat. I've been to many places in korea town where the menu is limited to each restaurants specialty, I was pleased to see this gama offered an array of dishes and drinks. From the bar to the back dining area the atmosphere is very comfortable. It was refreshing to see such a diverse crowd dining at this particular restaurant which is seldom seen in most korean establishments. The food is excellent and the prices are easy on your wallet. Convieniently located, its a great place to meet with friends after work or shopping for dinner and drinks.

i went there last tuesday with friends and can easily say it is an extremely enjoyable dining experience. the decor is great and most importantly i think the food is outstanding. pretty traditional korean cuisine, it doesn't cater to the less-concerting tastes. the drinks are especially cheap, beers and pitchers and its in a great neighborhood. like a few other reviews have said its a great alternative to trekkin up to ktown to get some korean food. the soondubujigae is quite tasty as well as the mulmandoo. what else is there to say, great combination of food, price, and location. can't be beat!

Last week I had checked out this place for the first time. I was really impressed! While the food in K-town is good, I'm white like apple pie, so i'm not really trying to go out to the k-town bars and spots after dinner. I'd much rather be at restaurant like this further downtown and closer to where I hang out. The food at this spot was amazing, in particular, I had never had fried steak before and it was really good, plus the korean rice and soup dishes were of the same caliber as the korean spots i ate at when I visited Korea for business. The tables are comfortable and they have a good selection of drinks. The place is new, so they're still settling in, but this spot is definitely the one to watch on St. Marks.

I have NO idea what the previous reviewers were writing about....maybe they were friends of this new establishment but it was nothing like what they said it was. First off, let me preface it by saying I am not Korean, I actually live in midtown but hang out in the area often....after a night of drinking around the corner, my friends and I realized this new place so we went in. The bartenders were not HOT and unattentive. Drinks were cheap and mixed well, but sevice eh. The food was alright, but nothing beats a trip to ktown to get your kalbi and kimchi fix.

Overall, a decent place to meet your friends as a starting point before heading over to the other establishments around.

I came across this place the other day.. I have a lot of Korean friends and have insisted that they try the food here! It is fantastic. They joined me for dinner one night and were truly impressed. The owner was there too and was hanging out with us and showing us around, telling us stories. We ended up at the bar, the bartenders name was Hera, I think, she was totally hot! If your in the area or just want to hang at a cool place I recommend it for sure, if not for the good food, the hot bartender at least.

I'm Korean. I hate any type of asian fusion food. Initially, I had some misgivings about this place, given their location and atmosphere. Those thoughts were quickly put to rest. This place is IT! Someone finally got it right with Korean food outside of KTown! The food's good, more importantly however, they're not trying to serve some bogus, trendy fake stuff and call it Korean. This stuff is the real deal man. My only worry is that they'll get too popular and be invaded by Trendy, cool people.

The place was so beautiful and classy, completely opposite of St. Marks in my opinion. Def. cheaper than Korea town prices. The food was AMAZING!!!! I couldn't stop eating cause the flavor was just right, and we were able to pick the level of spiceness when needed with certain dishes. They have this watermelon soju that was soooo yummy too. I also liked the fact that when we had dinner in the back dining area, the mood was just right, the type of music was perfect, not too loud. Then we chilled in the front (the bar area) where we enjoyed the slightly louder type music, yet it was perfect where i could actually hear my friends without screaming in each others ears. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND CHECKING OUT GAMA!!!! I had a terrific time, esp. for the fact that we thought we just gonna eat dinner, and ended up hangin out till closing. I do have to tell you one more thing. I wish the place was opened later in the wee hours. So be warned they currently close at 1 am on the weekdays, and 2 am on the weekends.
