This place has the best view in NY I swear. The Empire Hotel Rooftop Bar is absolutely incredible. I took a few photos having a drink with my camera phone and my buddies thought I was making it up. The only reason this place doesnt get 5

The Empire rooftop staff are so lame. The clowns at the door are still operating off of "dress code" rather than "style code." I decided to go around 11pm on a Sat night, I was wearing a pair of Balmain BIker jeans, an Alexander Wang white

A friend of ours has been doing promotions here for the past 3 years! We were looking for a replacement for Decade supper club/nightclub formerly on 61 st & First Avenue with a "grown and sexy" adult (age 35+) crowd, with no:Timberland boots, sneakers, jeans/pants with no belts and their underwear showing with the pants pocket down to the back of their knees look, "hood rats", etc...We seem to have found it! The crowd is diverse, of all ages and dressed appropriately and it is a beautiful space with a definite upscale vibe. All women are dressed in cocktail dresses or nice dress jeans with heels. Some guys are in suits.Yes, drinks are "pricey" but hey, that is what having a job and working is for or do not come and complain. That is what helps to keep out the "riff raff". People who go there have money in their pocket, and those are the people we would want to be around. My wife (the "hard sell") truly loves the venue and the freedom to be outside and have a cigar/cigarette is an added plus. Do not let anyone give you "second hand" news about this place, come and see for yourself! Opinions are like assh?!*s, everybody has one! For those driving, there is plenty of parking in the area.We also like the fact that there is a bathroom attendant. I think SOME classy places have a attendant that keeps a clean bathroom and has everything you could possibly need in a bathroom on a night out (cologne/perfume, mints, hard candy, etc... - please people have some decency and tip the person a dollar minimum for anything you use). Looks like we will be here now on a regular basis!

The hotel organized a BBQ party for Memorial day yesterday.....

After 3 hours waiting for some foods; we have been told by the waitresses tat they never heard about this bbq........

the should have done an open bar from 5pm to 6pm but at 5.30 pm they were out of stock...

It;s completely unprofessional !!! and unacceptable They made people come and excepting something so that; at the end; when they learn that there is no bbq; the hotel probably expected people to buy their expensive food....

I will never go back again to this place and the view is not even nice...

I would've given Empire Hotel 4-5 stars, however, i downgraded them to 1 star due to their event staff's disorganization.

My friends and I (over 15 people) planned to go here for a 22nd birthday party. Empire had said over the phone that they do not make lists (unless you buy bottles) but seeing as it was too expensive for us to buy bottles considering we were a lot of alcohol thirsty 22 year olds looking to just dance... we decided to just go to have a good time and splurge a little on drinks (they're expensive, over $12)

Well, turns out there was a list for my friend. 2 people from our group who arrived early got in on her "list" but when the time came for the b-day girl to go in, she was denied because she was the only girl out of 4 boys (that particular group).

So after a relentless search for some sort of manager, when i finally reached him he waved his hand at me and said "Honey, calm down". So I responded, "Please don't call me honey and listen to the situation." He turned his head away, ignoring me while I proceeded to calmly explain the situation. Well, turns out, not surprisingly, we left.

I do not recommend this place for an event. They are disorganized and rude. If you must go here, go EARLY and with the least amount of guys as possible. (Even the birthday girl wasn't allowed in because she was with 3 guys).

I've been to this place multiple times, the music is mostly pop and the ambiance is elegant, but not too fancy. It's actually a lot of fun (especially clutch for smokers with the heated outside terrace), but don't expect a very smart, compliant staff. (they think they're sh*t don't stink) ;-)

In general, Empire is a pretty cool spot to go to in New York but on New Years Eve it's going up a bunch of notches on any party-goers belt. The views are exceptional, the dcor is divine and the party vibe is absolutely wild.

Unfortunately, the system doesn't allow any curses, otherwise this review would be way more rough. Me and my friends stop by there for a couple of drinks and took a few chairs to sit our girlfriends on. Than after a while a bouncer came by and started taking chairs away from us. When my friend asked him why was he doing it, bouncer turned to a b1tch, got on the radio and there were seven of them around in a second. And they started pulling him out. This is considering my friend was sober then and is a very polite and adequate guy in general. When I tried to find out what was going on, these retards started taking me out also without any explanations. Again, I was politely asking what was the problem and why there are seven bouncers against one guy who doesn't even speak aggressive. These sons of a bitcches ruined the great evening, I'm not going there again. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

My friends and I had such an amazing time at Empire Hotel rooftop. When we rolled up, there was a big line, but because AccessGotham setup my party, we went straight to the front & got a comped bottle of vodka!!

The crowd was pretty good and the table that was reserved for us was in the lounge area by the window. I totally recommend to request one of the table areas by the bar so everyone can get drinks & party it up by the DJ.

My company had an event at Lincoln Center the other night. After it was over, we stumbled upon Empire Rooftop (across the street). We thought it would be cool to spend the rest of the night on a rooftop so we decided to come up. We wanted a table so we got 2 bottles of vodka. DJ was spinning great mix of music so we spent most of our night on the dance floor. Definitely a great place for an after party!

My (now) husband and i got married friday night. no crazy ceremony, just us and some of our closest friends. We decided to go to Empire for our after party. I was a little worried because we didnt have a reservation and from reading some of the reviews, i wasnt sure if we would be able to get in. When we got to Empire, there were two lines, one for reservations and one for general admission. we eneded up waiting about 20 min but got in fine. once we were up there, it was pretty crowded. I was hopping to find a table to hang out at but it looked like they were all taken. So i asked a security guard to help me. He called over a manager, tall bald guy with glasses. He explained to us that we would have to buy a bottle to get a table. We agreed. They gave us a table right in front of the DJ booth (which was awsome since i love to dance and that area was pretty much the dance floor) and a lovely server took care of us for the rest of the night. She always checked in on us and made sure we had plenty of juices and ice. i dont know how but she found out that we were just married (i guess my friend told her). next thing i know my husband and i get a glass of champagne each and the rest of our party gets a round of shots. And to top that, same manager came up to us and shook our hands and told us congratulations. I felt so special! I couldnt have picked a better place to celebrate and i will never forget this experience. This place is def one of my favorites now!

I helped plan my friend's bachelorette party here in April, and it was an amazing night. The Empire Hotel rooftop bar is basically just a classy place thats a lot of fun. There were about 15 of us, and we got great service the entire night. I planned the party through AccessGotham, so granted it might have been a bit easier ( and free) for me to get in the door than for some of the people who are complaining about getting turned away, but if you can get in it's worth the wait!!!!

I had a 31st birthday party at the Rooftop Lounge last night (Thursday, September 2nd). We arrived around 730 and for the most part all of the staff was fantastic. Gary, the manager, was nice, as were the women running the entrance and the waitstaff. Had the night ended as it started, this would be a very good review. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

Around 10 PM, two of my friends showed up. There was some bouncer at the door who thinks he is god's gift to the club scene in New York City. I think his name was J.P., but I'm not sure. He's a bald guy, looks like he came from the Jersey Shore, and really does think he is the most important person in the world. You can tell he loves turning people away and making decisions at the door. So here's what happened...

First off, it was relatively empty in the Lounge. Tons of space and not many people there. My two friends show up, there is no line, and they say they are there for my party. They are dressed appropriately and should have had zero trouble getting in. Bouncer denies them entry. My wife goes downstairs and talks very nicely to the bouncer, explains to him that I'm having about 30 ppl upstairs and if he could just let these two guys in that would be great. He says NO. Doesn't give a reason, just says "can't do it. they're not gettin in."

Then I come downstairs, and I try to reason with him. He refuses to talk to me at first, pretending he's on the phone the whole time. Then when I finally speak with him, I'm calm and nice the entire time and ask him if he can just let my two friends in, especially since it's my birthday party and all. He says "nope." Then he tells the bouncer to "get this guy away from him." Then when I try and reason with him some more, he says "you look at me one more time and I'm gonna shut down your entire party and kick you all out."

I'm telling you -- I've been out to a lot of place in New York City. A lot. And I've encountered my fair share of bouncers. And when bouncers don't let you in or say you don't have enough girls in your party or whatever it is, I generally understand and while it sucks I'm not trying to say that they should just let everyone in all the time. BUT this guy takes it to a whole new level. He should not be deciding who gets in anywhere. He should have zero decision-making power. He is the epitome of the guy who thinks he is much cooler than he really is. And he is by far the worst person I have ever encountered in new york city's nightlife scene. And that's saying a lot.

After this, I went upstairs and talked to the manager on duty, whose name is Eric Lee. I explained everything to him, and he was very nice about everything. But he told me that the doorman has complete discretion. And he left it at that. I took the 20 people that were there for my party, and we all left immediately.

Oh, and you know what's funny? I talked to about five employees at the club. I'm not making this up -- they all told me, every one of them, that they hate this bouncer. They know he's a jackass. They know he's mean. They can't stand the guy. They told me that some "f*cked up sh*t" had happened to me and that they felt really bad about everything.

I don't know who he knows, or how he keeps his job. But if there is any form of justice in the world, he will not have it for long. I would say that even though the lounge itself is very nice and the staff upstairs is generally nice, you should avoid this place. Because places that employ folks like this bouncer do not deserve your business. There are plenty of other places to go. Plenty.

i'm from jersey and hate clubbing in nyc because of all the hastle associated with it. however, decided to go on 8/13 because it was my birthday. had a group of 5 including myself.....2 girls 3 guys. got to the club around 2am because the place we intended on going to was closed down. a short fat guy pulled me to the side and was real honest and said we weren't getting in unless our group buys a bottle ($250)....which isn't bad considering there's 5 of us plus we don't pay a cover. however, the prick that was at the door was so arrogant and cocky i didn't have it in me to dig in my bottle and give him my money. he was even more of a prick when he told us to leave the line. i started to walk away with my group then said screw this.............i went back to that yuppy prick (who had beaver teeth and looked like he was wearing a wig) and asked him again how much it would be to get in. of course he was nice all of a sudden and would "love to help me".....then i told him if he wasn't so cocky and arrogant we would be in the place partying, instead they're $250 poorer. i said this in front of all his "bouncer buddies" and all the people waiting on line, so of course he has to retaliate. threatened to "kick my teeth in" as i was walking away (funny coming from a guy with f*cked up teeth). when i turned back and told him to cross that velvet line and say it to my face he turned into a b#tch. bouncers never said anything to me and everybody on the line was laughing.

long story short went to another place in meat packing and had a great time......glad i got the last laugh.

i'm from jersey and hate clubbing in nyc because of all the hastle associated with it. however, decided to go on 8/13 because it was my birthday. had a group of 5 including myself.....2 girls 3 guys. got to the club around 2am because the place we intended on going to was closed down. a short fat guy pulled me to the side and was real honest and said we weren't getting in unless our group buys a bottle ($250)....which isn't bad considering there's 5 of us plus we don't pay a cover. however, the prick that was at the door was so arrogant and cocky i didn't have it in me to dig in my bottle and give him my money. he was even more of a prick when he told us to leave the line. i started to walk away with my group then said screw this.............i went back to that yuppy prick (who had beaver teeth and looked like he was wearing a wig) and asked him again how much it would be to get in. of course he was nice all of a sudden and would "love to help me".....then i told him if he wasn't so cocky and arrogant we would be in the place partying, instead they're $250 poorer. i said this in front of all his "bouncer buddies" and all the people waiting on line, so of course he has to retaliate. threatened to "kick my teeth in" as i was walking away (funny coming from a guy with f*cked up teeth). when i turned back and told him to cross that velvet line and say it to my face he turned into a b#tch. bouncers never said anything to me and everybody on the line was laughing.

long story short went to another place in meat packing and had a great time......glad i got the last laugh.

.

I got invited out by my friend who came into the city from Jersey last night (August 21, 2010). I live in Chelsea and arrived 30 mins after my friend and his group at about 12:40. There were five of them altogether and they got in with no problem. As I am standing on line, I see a man in a white and blue button down shirt w an ear piece in. He walked up to a black guy behind me and told him to get off the line or he's gonna throw him across the street. I guess they had refused him entry before or something. Nevertheless, I thought that was incredibly RUDE and aggressive to threaten violence! Considering the way the guy on line was acting-speaking passively and calmly, I think these doormen were overreacting! He asked "why are you guys giving me a hard time?" I glanced at the three women in front of me-who were wearing flip flops and casual wear. I was wearing a gorgeous strapless dress with cute black heels make up done well, Tiffany's jewelry. Most importantly, friendly, happy demeanor. After 10 mins, they yelled out we're full to capacity people! . So, I call my friend who said he'd come down to see if they'd let me in once they see I'm definitely with his group. He said are they being racist? I said no they AREN'T being racist, they said they're full to capacity. At which point the door men all looked at me. THEN, as I was speaking on the phone they let the three (white) women in front of me in. I was telling my friend I see people leaving and they're letting others in so I don't know why they're saying they are full to capacity. While waiting I tried to tell the guy with the blue and white shirt that my friends are upstairs and it's just me, if he could let me in. BUT he cut me off after two words, put his hand up over his face like he didn't want to look at me and told me in a nasty way to move from the entrance, let the hotel guests in. I said you don't have to be an a*****e about it. He goes "if your friends step out we won't let them back in." When he realized a Marine and my friend arrived and hugged me, he disappeared inside. Another guy in a black button down said you guys won't get back in bc you left. I explained to my friends what happened, the Marine went to speak to the main guy with the blue and white shirt in the lobby where I couldn't see or hear what was going on. I found out later the manager in the blue and white shirt told him that I have an attitude and I called him racist so he won't let me in! While I was waiting they had called the police on the black guy that they had threatened on the line earlier. They had the police questioning the guy across the street meanwhile they wouldn't let me in with the group of 5 (whites) that was already upstairs and he was lying about me in the lobby to the Marine. Then he told the Marine that him and my friend could go back up (after he said earlier they wouldn't let them back in). It made no sense why he wouldn't let me in considering I was part of a group that was let in and he continued to let people in. People go out to have a good time not deal with drama. If they think that is the way to run a door, they're gonna be surprised when word goes out that they are nasty c*nts! They need to put the lines down and take some xanax. My friend stayed w me and we went to dream hotel while the Marine gathered the other people to leave Empire. The door man at Dream was so LOVELY. He opened the cabbie door (and shut the door for the cab when we left). Said welcome, the manager said goodnight. Told us which floor to press on the elevator. Smiled! It was like night and day. THE VIEW AT DREAM IS WAY BETTER! I really feel like going to find out that guys name who was running things at Empire last night and writing an official letter of complaint.

A friend of mine had a birthday party here on a Friday night. She made reservations and she told everyone to get there before 11. I made it there 10ish and there was a line that wasn't moving. As it did move I befriended some people on the line. Once they found out that bottles were required to get inside they stepped off the line. The bouncer held the velvet rope open for me and I told him I wasn't with the people who had just left. He said "it doesn't matter, you're not getting in.". So I stepped off, texted my friend, and her and her entire party left with me and we went to another lounge that let us right in and we had a BLAST. Don't go to this spot that's so high-ciddity with rude staff members that won't let you in unless you're a celeb. TRUST ME DON'T DO IT TO YOURSELF!!!

If you would like to be discriminated on or treated like scum come here. We scheduled my cousins 25th bday here got to the place and they took one of our ids and license. The bald gentlemen comes back and says who is so and so he answers and he rudely said not tonight not tonight while opening the velvet rope and dismissing us. No explanantion NOTHING!!! We stood in shock and a bouncer assisted us and finally i dont know how we got through. Beautiful place more like an after work type of party and once we were seated we all were just so bothered and decided to leave. We spoke with a manager never was explained why that happened and wasnt comped in anyway. Will never go there eff those rude people seems like they like the more coke head looking crowd.

The only real downside to this place is the line outside on a Saturday night. I read the other reviews and it seems like a lot of people didn't enjoy their experiences due to the staff, but the staff was very courteous to my friends and I on the evening we went.

The view from the rooftop isn't as nice as the one on 230 Fifth, but the DJ is much better so if you are looking to dance I think Empire is a much better option.

Two bad stories:
1. My good friend had a birthday there, he reserved a table with bottle service, and gave his friend's names to the doorman. It was very crowded at the entrance to the hotel, and NONE of us were able to get up to the roof. My friend had his party alone. Even though the doorman acknowledged that our names were on the list, he just shrugged and said, 'too bad.' Completely unthinkable to me - the birthday gentleman reserved a table! And bottles! And we were a small group! He was, of course, still charged. Naturally.
2. After attending performance of American Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake at the Metropolitan Opera House, our fashionably dressed party, consisting of three ballet dancers (including myself), my mother and my brother thought we would have a few cocktails on the roof. We were denied entrance, however, based on my brother's Ferregamo sneakers. Is a Ferregamo sneaker really a sneaker? They complemented his outfit so nicely, he was really rocking out the upscale hipster look....
So I've had it with the Empire Hotel in general and will no longer patronize this establishment in any form.

All the doormen are RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS. THEY ALSO THINK THEY OWN THE SIDEWALK. Get off the $10/hour high horse and realize that you're nothing but doormen. That means you open and close the door. Got it? You DO NOT own the sidewalk and CANNOT tell me to get off of it. One guy said, "This is for pedestrians, get off the sidewalk or get in the back of the line" LISTEN YOU IDIOT I CAN BE STANDING ON THE SIDEWALK, I'M A PEDESTRIAN. LOOK THAT UP.

You often hear how citizens of new york are overly sensitive, pugnacious, and take offense to every little thing. Well... forget wall street... the one place you'll experience the wrath of an over-sensitive new yorkan is at the door of Empire Hotel.

We brought a fun loving bunch of people from out of town for a birthday celebration in New York and picked Empire since its a rooftop. We got in with no trouble, even got two bottles, spent over $1000. A few hours later, we went back downstairs to get some food, and on our way back up, struck a conversation with the bouncer. As we tried to have a conversation with the door staff, one of the members took offense to a joke. And completely flipped on us. (mind you the joke wasn't race-related, or status-related at ALL. It was absolutely benign and friendly). All of a sudden, you see a bunch of bouncers with new york accents get all "New York-an" on us saying stuff like "I don't like being talked down upon like that" and "You're not going back upstairs". Me, being a lady, stepped in, apologized for anything we might've said that was offensive, and told him that we have a table upstairs with bottles, etc. and if he would let us go, we'd appreciate it. All of a sudden, someone who had spent over $1000 at a "classy" lounge was being treated like a little child who had cheated on a 2nd grade exam.

I love New York but it's ppl like him who make it look bad. We spoke to management about his behavior, and never got an apology from him. There was no need for such brash comments. Our group purchased two bottles and consisted of extremely classy adults. We were friendly to all the staff, and were having a great time until this staff member decided to practice the only power he has control over in his life.

Never coming back here again. If i'm looking for a good time with my buddies, I'll stick to my suburban bars. This city bloke completely ruined our night.

While there is no question that this place has a nice view, the drinks are over-priced, the service is glacial, and the staff are terrible. Bottom line, this place is just not good enough to make it worth the hassle of dealing with the wannabe worms who work here.

This place is probably the most overrated and worst service spots around. I've been working in the party event scene for a while and this was not worth the hype. I had a friend's birthday party to attend here, but table/bottle service was reserved ahead of time. Even with that there was hassle to get in, party had to grease(pay/tip) the host to get in. Really guys, is this how you operate???

Next a bunch of guests of the party was turned away for really no reason, but they said party was filled to capacity. I guess most roof lounges are like this though, with bad door policies, Gansevoort and 230 5th. So, lesson learned, don't go to places with snobby door policies. Much rather have a good time drinking at the local pub with good friends.

We were looking for a rooftop to gather a group of 10-12 people for my birthday in early May. I had been there a few times prior but never as a group. For a full week prior, we called and left a message each day to reserve a table. We left them with the actual abr and finally called the hotel itself who sent someone up to the rooftop bar to deliver our message personally. This was the day before my bday and still didn't hear from them. We would have changed locations, but since I had always liked the place, I had already told everyone to come there. ON the day of my bday we finally heard back and reserved a table. We were quoted a minimal amount that would need to be spent for the table which was just fine with us. While there, the service was okay but nothing special. We closed out and thoguth all was well despite the fiasco of reserving the table... which btw ended up being on a night that wasn't even crowded.

And so began phase II of the fiasco... I realized I lfet my camera on the table there. I know for a fact that I left it there but to be honest didnt' really care. It was old and I needed a new one but I still wanted to check to see if they might have found it. And again, we left messages each day. Finally, four days after teh fact, we actually got a live person who claimed they never found the camera but "would look into it and let us know if it shows up." Again, I don't really care about the camera but why take 4 days to return a call nad then blow us off.

Phase III - A friend of mine put the bill on her card which came out to around $700. When she looked at her statement later that week, she was charged twice. And so began another round of phone calls. She eventually got a manager on the phone who told her that was normal policy... to charge twice and once the amount clears, they credit the second charge back - total horsecrap. My guess is they do this as often as they can and get away with double-charging if they can.

The overall experience was a nightmare and I will never sepnd another dime there. If I were you, I would spend my money elsewhere!

Do NOT go here unless you want to risk getting man-handled and treated like garbage by their unreasonable staff!

My boyfriend and I went for a friend's birthday and spent $400 on a bottle. When we went to leave, as my boyfriend was waiting on line for the men's room (the lines for the bathrooms are terrible!) a guy tried to race ahead of him into the men's room. As my boyfriend tried to stop him to say there was a line, the guy's drink got spilled by accident and he ran off in a huff. No big deal right? People's drinks get spilled all of the time. And he could've talked it out with my boyfriend if there were really an issue.

WRONG! Instead, a huge bouncer came over to my boyfriend and said, "you're coming with me," and when he asked why, he refused to talk to him. Once we were near the elevators to head out, another bouncer manhandled my boyfriend and physically threw him on the elevator, saying he "must be a douchebag" while the other kept posturing his hand and making a fist. He was then continually told he was a "douchebag"."

We were able to leave once the elevators opened, but I was terrified and appalled at this treatment after spending good money there! You can't reason with unreasonable people, and Empire's staff was highly disturbing and scary! We will NEVER go back! Go at your own risk!

NYC is nightlife is not for everyone. This is not vegas and you will not have a personal butler (atleast at most venues here). Door screening is tough, it has to be...there are always more people wanting to get in than space available. It's hit or miss depending on who is working the door. And people will usually take their frustrations out via reviews at management and staff. Sometimes its deserved. Other times its not. Having said that...in this case it is.

I have prob been to every club in NYC, hamptons and miami and can say that management at this venue needs to be changed or atleast change their attitude. Last weekend was my 3rd visit there and same story. At a friends b-day party. He spent $1,500 and his guests were lumped together with gen admission and not allowed up. They were even fighting with two of his guests-petite & polite girls-telling them get out of lobby etc. Door staff seemed overwhelmed, lacking confidence in crowd control, being rude and frankly abusing customers. Frummpy bartenders (not the 'beautiful' people mentioned in Citysearch review) serving people were either really nice or complete A-holes. Verbal tiff's at the door downstairs are not uncommon and just plain unprofessional. They treat people that are dropping $1K a night as regular patrons and dont mind abusing them. They couldn't care less about repeat business or reputation. I say this after having been there 3 times. For that much money one can go down to the meatpacking dist and have a better time with less hassles. The staff should take a trip to downtown or to the hamptons club this summer and watch how bouncers, hosts and bartenders at venues with 1,000+ people work as a team to control crowd, make sure its moneyed patrons are having a great time and treat them as guests, not just people that can be bilked for $400 a pop.

Pros: Location, Views

Cons: Staff & Managemet

.

Don't bother with this hotel, stay somewhere else if you can. My family stayed here when they were visiting NYC recently and they thought it was dirty and had rude/unresponsive staff. There may also have been bed bugs here. Stay somewhere else if you can. Apart from the location, the hotel doesn't have much else going for it.

It all depends what mood the people that work there are in! One time i went for a friends birthday and it was garbage. We had ordered bottle service and the waitress was horrible, we tried speaking to the owner and he was even worse. I felt so bad for my friend! She ended up leaving her own party!

And yet another time, for another guy friends get-together, we also had bottle service but this time we had no problem getting in, the waitress (a diff. one) was super nice, and we had a blast!!

Go figure. =T

We came here a for a birthday party, and we paid for bottle service. They still gave our guests a problem, having them wait online for one hour.
The service was barely there, they dropped off the bottle and never came back....
The manager was rude and obnoxious to my friends, being yelling and threatening, and even spilled beer all over my legs!

I had my birthday party here on Saturday night and we had a great time! When we arrived, my entire party was able to cut the insanely long line. What's better, people who came later gave my name at the door were also able to cut the line.
The waitress was great and attentive and even hooked us up with a new bottle when ours was accidentally knocked over. Great views, fun crowd, and terrific service. Overall, Empire is an awesome spot for a birthday party. We will definitely be back soon.

I had alot of fun there, I went with a couple of friends from a fashion show, my friend Katie and this guy she knew, we went up the elevator, I though we where going to have trouble getting in but nope, the people where so sweet, and the people there can make or break a place, Me and Katie Advocate, Model/Dancer, danced, networked, took pictures, and videos of the night. So much fun. See the content by looking up Merry Whitney google search.

After I decided to plan my 25th birthday at Empire. I was assured by the promoter of the venue that it wouldn't be an issue for my group of friends to get in. When we arrived, they forced us to purchase 3 bottles for a group of 30 people whom are mostly girls. The manager stuck us at the worst possible table ever. He made it seem like he was doing us a favor. The worst part of all was that the party was really urban. If it wasn't for the great views and my friends being there. I would NEVER recommend a place like this. It's a complete waste.

This weekend I celebrated my 30th B-day at the Empire Hotel Rooftop and had both positive and negative experiences...

Pros - The place itself is beautiful and spacious with a fantastic view and since we're on a rooftop smokers don't have to go far.

The waitress and servers were very attentive and kept our bottles and mixers filled.

The bouncers were great in making sure no craziness went on.

The Promoter JP was great and so helpful!

Cons - The "GM" has delusions of grandeur and has no concept of "the customer is always right". He was extremely rude and bc of him alone I would never recommend this place to anyone for a party. He told me that my cake was taking revenue away from his kitchen (I guess my over $1K tab plus all the drinks my guests were buying aren't considered revenue). Or maybe he thought I was going to sell my birthday cake to his patrons. When I tried to show him that I was told that there was no plating fee bc I still had the email saved on my blackberry, he told me he didn't care what anyone told me because he is the "GM" and he has the last word. When I told him I don't like being misled he responded, "whatever!" Zero custumer service skills. Empire needs to fire that guy pronto! He's a profanity. He was a General Monster!

The DJ was also a con. Maybe it's just me but Ace of Base and Whitney Houston just aren't party hits in 2009. For a minute there I thought he was trying to help me relive all my thirty years lol

Despite that General Monster and outdated music, overall I had a great time thanks to the wait staff, the security guys, the promoter JP and more than anything my guests!!!

I went to this place for the first time last sat for my friends birthday-the general manager was the worst possible staff member that night, just horrid and rude!!! Ughh-the bouncers were great, esp. Jason, very attentive to my friends and I when we asked questions

I had to plan my roommate's 25th birthday and decided to go with Empire Hotel Rooftop after reading the reviews. It was definitely a great choice. I got in touch with the promoter of the party and he was kind enough to setup a guest list for your party. We decided to reserve a table since it was a large group of us. The doorgirl was super friendly in making sure all of our friends got in without any issues. Thanks for everything!

I would stay away from this place for the following reasons!!! 1) The drinks are way overpriced 2) The waitresses don't care about customers, are very rude and pushy. If sitting and not ordering drink after drink they ask you to get up and move 3) management is horrid, no sense of customer service (the customer is always right concept). They should appreciate the business in this economy, but rater make you feel like they are doing you a favor. AVOID OR EXPERIENCE FOR YOURSELF!!!!

The staff is obnoxious. The music is too loud and outdated. The lines are unreasonable outside and my friends waited for an hour and a half outside even though we had a bottle upstairs. The doorman, manager and promoters are unaccomadating and rude to a party that purchased a table. Compared to other rooftop bars in NY, the service at this place is horrendous and I would never go back. If you want great views there are definitely other places where the service and the music is better. By the end of the night my party felt insulted and abused. Not at all recommended

I went to Empire rooftop last friday with a few co workers, we had such great time. Music is great, the view is amazing and you have to love the no hasstle door policy which is hard to find at the nice places in New york these days. Can't wait until its warm enough to stay outside on the terrace. Big thumbs up for Empire.

Wow...there's definitely not a lot of places like the Empire Rooftop. We had a small gathering here last weekend. We called and made a reservation. When we got here the door girl was really polite and took care of our group immediately. We got a table and ended up getting a bottle without being "forced" to get one. The crowd was really nice...definitely coming back there soon :)

I wanted to thank everyone from the Empire Rooftop for making my girlfriend's 25th birthday an amazing one. Everyone from the security, door girl and our waitress were so accommodating. Our group was roughly 60 people and everyone had no issues getting in (Make sure the guys are well dressed). We reserved a section and got a few bottles. The music was great and the scene was great as well. My girlfriend had an amazing time. Definitely recommend this place to anyone!

Went there with a few co-workers late last Friday. They were really friendly at the door and let us in without any hassle. When we were up there the music was pretty good and the crowd was really fun. It was a great atmosphere-- exactly what we needed after a heavy work week! The space is beautiful. It is one of the nicest rooftops I've been to in a while. Although the drinks were a little on the pricier side the bartender was awesome and made them really strong =)

Overall a great place and a fun time!

My friends and I headed to the Empire Hotel on Christmas Eve -- in a great mood, no less. We opted to sit at the bar before heading upstairs.

We kindly asked the bartender for a menu, when she snapped at us that there was no menu, she wasn't making drinks anymore, and stormed off. We were pretty confused. She stormed back and started yelling at us that she wasn't gonna make drinks at all, that we have an attitude, she had to stay an extra hour than originally planned -- basically was having a violent meltdown directed at us.

I asked to speak to the manager, who clearly had zero control over the situation. I told we would be leaving and probably would never go back - he apologized but didn't stop us from putting out coats on. The guys, simply put, like a d-less idiot.

A Christmas Eve that had started out so fun was ruined because of The Empire Hotel and their staff. I've been living in New York for 15 years, and honestly, have never been treated with less respect.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - this place deserves to go out of business. Go to the Hudson Hotel instead, it's nicer and, obviously, friendlier.
