Camp Hillcroft is truly a wonderful experience for parents and children/teens of all ages. I had sent both my daughters to Camp Hillcroft - my youngest Christine - for 9 years since she was 6 years old as a Penguin. She was in the camp right through seniors and is returning to the camp this summer as a counselor. My eldest daughter also attended the camp - trust me she really did not care much for a lot of things - she greatly enjoyed her years as a camper at Hillcroft. My two daughters are different in terms of their likes and needs yet the camp met and exceeded their wish lists. The Buttingers truly run a wold class camping experience. They are very focused on the children and offer everything from zip lines, hiking, gymnastics, acting, crafts, games, swimming, archery to field trips around the region and to an off site lake/pond nearby.

There is a reason famous celebrities send their children to this camp folks - VERY FAMOUS actors, world re known music artists and top models' children - ...yes I've come face to face at parent day with them... sans makeup. The camp is simply the BEST. Yes there is structure, with so many children attending camp there needs to be a well run operation - but by FAR the camp focuses on the children. From Zip Lines, to arts and crafts, swim lessons and nutritious meals - Hillcroft is a top drawer operation. They also have their marketing right - they host an annual reunion roller skating party in Hyde Park - usually in January and send just the right amount of mail / newsletters. Their website is informative and - gosh - EVEN I who is the most vocal person when it comes to giving negative feed back can find zero to say. A class operation for a kids camp. A bit expensive - but like everything else in life you get what you pay for and Hillcroft is certainly worth every single penny.

I'm sorry to see some negative reviews of Camp Hillcroft, so I am motivated to tell of our experience. Summer 2011 was my daughter's first Hillcroft experience. She was nervous about starting at a new camp but the orientation they provide to new campers put her very much as ease. By 3rd day she was hooked. She built tremendous confidence over the summer and came home a new kid. She cried when camp was over. Yes, there is order and structure and that's a good thing. Yes, there are rules - a good thing, too. There is also friendship, camaraderie, and activities too numerous to mention - archery, zip lines, team sports, music, animals, farming, dance, graphic design are only a few. The counselors are upbeat and great with the children. There are daily swimming lessons taught by certified instructors plus free swim daily. There are lake visits, sleepovers and good old fashioned campfires. My daughter learned camp songs that I learned as a kid and new ones as well. She made friends she continued to see all this year and she's headed back this summer. Lunch is provided by the camp. Safety is a priority and bullying (my daughter never observed any) is not tolerated. Sarah and Greg Buttinger, the family owners, couldn??t be more responsive to any issues brought to their attention. We couldn't be more pleased!

Parent of a Hillcroft child in 3rd year at this camp. OK experience so far, not stellar but not great. We continue because its the only traditional day camp within driving distance. Real problem with camp is focus on rules rather than experience. They seem to value teaching campers the hard lessons of life (like if you make a mistake signing up, etc., you have to face consequences) rather than providing growth experiences for the kids. I sound like a helicopter parent, but I think they go out of their way to tell kids "no." I would recommend finding another camp if you can.

Our experience wasn't great and left a lot to be desired. The camp was advertised better than it actually turned out to be and didn't live up to the real experience. You can judge for yourself but this is our opinion.

Camp Hillcroft is a lot of fun for the kids, and offers a wide variety of activities. It is run in a very orderly fashion.
