An outstanding selection of handcrafted ales and microbrews bottled and on tap (plus Bud Lite & Guinness)and seven flat screen TV's makes this friendly East Village watering hole one of the best bars in the City to catch your favorite team's game. Plays host to MLB (Red Sox & Cubs friendly!!),NFL Sunday Ticket, NBA League Pass, NHL Center Ice Packages and features COLLEGE SPORTS. Plus 5-8 PM Happy Hour (Mon-Fri), special events (SEE WEBSITE)and a great space for "team themed" alumni parties. Free bagels with all the fixings every Saturday & Sunday afternoon.

Editorial by

The Scene
Standings are just what you'll get at this classic neighborhood pub--from the bar's blackboards slated with up-to-date stats and the friendly, vocal fan base that hangs out. Team pennants plaster the brick walls and dark wood carved bar; rows of dusty antique beer cans run along the ceiling like crown molding; an old model train track circuits the room. Gruff young bartenders warm up once the game starts.

The Draw
Seven flat screens tune in to local and national matchups. Weeknights draw a small neighborhood crowd, while raffles and free snacks (ordered in from nearby restaurants) bring in bigger numbers during weekend games--with a sports debate bound to strike up between strangers at any given time. Beer's what's on tap--which rotates, but always boasts local ales like Sixpoint Craft and smaller national breweries--plus a selection of 25 bottled beers. Down the Midas Touch--a beer that is thick like liquor and so strong it's served in a wine glass--and you're golden.

Key Points

  • American Microbrews & Ales
  • Home of COLLEGE Sports!!
  • NFL, NBA, NHL & MLB Packages

Sports and Beer and Lotsa Atmosphere

by Kashuba

I love this place! Ok, partly because they seem to be going in the direction of being a Cubs bar. As a lifelong Chicagoan transplanted to New York, this is great! But the beer selection and the atmosphere are huge pluses. (The beer selection regularly rotates!) And I am definitely looking forward to football season, as this seems like a nice place to hang out on a cold winter's day or night and shoot the breeze with any conversational clientele. Don't let the amount of TVs stop you from coming in. This is not an "in your face", blaring, glaring sports bar. It is a place to catch a variety of different games and meet a nice mix of friendly bartenders and patrons. The special free food nights are fantastic. And you've got Pommes Frites around the corner where you can purchase all fries all the time, with any of a number of sauces, and bring them to the bar! Don't forget to look up at the ceiling for an endless array of sports jerseys and paraphernalia and check out the train track running along the upper wall of the bar.

Pros: Great beer, friendly atmosphere, unique sports bar. Not like those overly commerical ones.

Cons: None, though some day I'd like to see the train running on the little track along the wall...

good beer and sports bar

by gordonvp

an exemplary selection of ever-rotating microbrews and great sports coverage are the key points to this small east village pub. theme nights featuring top breweries are very appreciated. free food hours are also quite nice. the only niggle i have with this bar is one of the regular bar tenders. his 'don't bother me i'm hanging with my buddies' attitude is bizarre. maybe if he actually got into what it is he's there for, he'd get bigger tips? the only downer to an otherwise terrific place.

Best Sports Bar, but Don't Think You'll See the Sox Here in the ALCS

by barbarabar37

Bummah!!! So Standings, yeah? Best spaahhhts bahhh evahh (in New York). But here it is, Game 2 of the ALCS, and we?ve invited people from Way Far Away to come with us to the BEST RED SOX BAR IN NEW YORK CITY, and guess what? Sox on two tiny TVs, and NO SOUND! Why? Cuz there?s CAL fans there. Actual other regular(ish)e\s, as they were walking out of the bar, said to us, ?Dude?this is most definitely not the place to see the Sox game tonight.? Sad, so sad. And the owner? He said, ?Too bad the Sox are crossing seasons this year. It?s tough.? Guess I should go to Professor Tom?s now that Standings has sold out. Particularly if anything in the World Series falls on a CAL game Saturday.

Pros: Red Sox, Sports Bar

Cons: NoRedSox

BIG 'OLE NEIGHBORHOOD BLOCK PARTY

Hands down the best place in the neighborhood to watch a game & socialize complete with STANDINGS board, fantasy leagues and some nice beers on tap...Bring in a burger from Paul's (around the corner) and settle in for the night...can't wait for pigskin season...

Pros: Bring in your own food

by zzzepptri29

Even by New York standard this place is Tiny! We were there mid-afternoon so to comment on the clientele wouldn't be fair. However, it's essentially a dive by any reasonable standards.

Pros: Um, can't think of any. Maybe if you lived in the neighborhood.....maybe

Cons: Dumpy

FUN BASEBALL HANGOUT

Overwhelming number of t.v's for a small space...and it was perfect!! Was able to keep tabs on all key games...friendly staff that lets you bring in your own outside food and an interesting selection of local and national microbrews on tap...Question: When is "TRIBUTE TO THE MARLINS NIGHT"?

Pros: Plenty of t.v.'s, friendly place to meet sports fans...

Fun loving sports bar

by kelsiecsurams89

Sports, sports, sports....T.V.'s all over the palce so you never miss any action dominate the somewhat small space - very eclectic memorabilia and very warm and welcoming. Stopped by last Saturday afternoon and stumbled upon a University of Missouri Alumni basketball party for their game against K.U. The place was packed and most t.v.'s seemed tuned to that game - - so, if you go, call ahead to make sure they will be showing your game. The brews were awesome - many I had never seen before and free pizza was being served over in the corner. Definitely worth the stumble down the block from McSorley's...

Pros: Tons of t.v.'s, fun crowd, awesome microbrews

Cons: A little small which could be fun with the right crowd

I was looking for the bar I was reading about...

by tedesco1

Well, I guess I came at the wrong time on the wrong night. It was a Monday, 6:00. The place was pretty much empty (which is more than fine), and there was a 20 something "kid" behind the bar. There are a lot of specialty taps at Standings, and he had no knowledge of any of them. He stood there expressionless, it was actually uncomfortable, so I just ordered the first tap that caught my eye. Whatever I ordered cost $6, so I guess happy hour prices are not really much of a discount. I was about to inquire about a "special" sign that said "free sausage & pepper heros tonight from 6-8" or something to that effect, but figured I'd better not. The tables and chairs were a mess, the lights were like a construction zone. There are plenty of TVs, and an interesting tap selection, and maybe under different circumstances it would be a cool place.

Pros: interesting beer selection, lots of TVs

Cons: incompetant service, very bright, happy hour not so happy

A top notch local

by valleyconfidential

I had been looking for a while for a low-key, friendly place to catch sports events and just hang out and Standings is that place! It reminded me a lot of an English pub - small, great beers, not over-crowded, friendly staff and clientele. It's the sort of place you can go to when you just want to get out of your apartment and meet a couple buddies for a beer and a football game.
It's also worth noting that they always appear to be having special promotions, like free pizza, which just sort of builds on the overall friendly feel of the place.

Pros: Great atmosphere, plenty of TVs, free food

Cons: Small space, not ideal for a large group of friends

If only we had somewhere like this in the UK!

by mrboogaloo

What a spot! Been here a few times now on trips to NYC. A relatively small selection of beers compared to some places in the East Village and Lower East Side. However, they are always interesting and always taste great. Had an amazing Mojo IPA there in March 06 and a stonking Endurance IPA in Oct 06. Last trip we walked in on a Uni of Missouri alumni bash. Cracking crowd. Even though it was rammed, the place felt relaxed and welcoming. They brought in some superb looking pizza from round the corner, but didn't get a chance to sample as we were off to dinner else where. Great place to catch all the US sports action. Only issue would be the barmaid on our last trip who wasn't the best and clearly was more interested in getting the free food down her neck even though she had just started her shift! A minor point. We'll be back and back again!

Pros: beer, sport, atmosphere

Cons: a little cramped, lacklustre bar work on occasions

Awesome set-up with t.v.'s, small place brings you close to all the action with sound...

by longhorns93

Really great place. Popped in for a college football Saturday and it seemed like every big game was on...it's a small place and is apparently well known for its eclectic beer selection. Had a pumpkin ale for the first time an was pleasantly surprised. Very friendly staff and crowd. No food served but they encourage you to order in...I got to order from Paul's Burgers around the corner...sweet...will definitely be back.

Pros: Fun environment, spirited crowd, great t'v's which are everywhere

Cons: Get there early for a seat

Great college football bar - especially for Cal fans! Go Bears!

by vibhavm

I guess it depends what you're looking for but I went here last weekend and it was right on. Small, cozy, and great beer. They had about 6-7 TVs so almost every game was on somewhere in the place. They had free bagels from 12-5pm on Saturday. When we wanted warm food, we brought in Thai food from across the street or Pomme frites and drank great beer from 3:30pm until 11pm. The bartenders are nice folks too. Plus, a lot of Cal fans go to this bar. Go Bears!

Pros: Good beer, Nice crowd, All the games

Cons: Could be tough to find a seat, No outside food

Small Sports Bar

by yukster11

This is a very small sports bar with limited seating (doesn't look like it can hold more than 50). There are about 8 flat screens located throughout the bar. It can get very warm inside even when it's not crowded. It seems to draw more of a college type crowd as not only was the clientele in their early to mid 20's, but there are numerous stickers, dolls, street signs, etc from universities. Other than the heat, it's a good place to watch games. The beer menu is eclectic although of "name beers" only Bud Light and Guinness are available on draft. They do not serve food however there are numerous menus in case you want to order something from a local place. Bathrooms are 1 at a time.

Pros: TV's

Cons: Very Warm

Only in the East Village....

by jockuws

A Red Sox-friendly bar in NYC? Yup...Sox fans outnumbered Yankees fans this past Friday night 9 to 1...This place really seems to cater not so much to the local teams but to groups from around the country (as evidenced by their eclectic banners & pennants collection...Marshall? where the heck IS THAT?)...

A small, comfortable place with about 7 or 8 t.v.'s - it's sensory overload at times as different games are on all the t.v.'s - great microbrews from around the country (never had a Rogue beer before but definitely will again in the near future) and free pizza (at least on Friday's) will definitely be returning for football season...

Pros: Spirited atmosphere, free food, friendly customers & staff

Cons: Too many Red Sox fans!!

Small But Nice Friendly Setting

by slimtim

We went here on a recent visit to NYC with our 22 year old son and his friends to watch a football game on the tube. A VERY enjoyable experience. A sports bar without much in the way of eats, but plenty of brew and there are carry out places nearby for your food needs. We got a couple of pizzas and enjoyed them while watching the game.

Pros: Several choices of COLD beer

Cons: Limited food choices

Best Beer in NYC!

by it_dude

I'm in the process of relocating to the area, and was looking for something just a little bit off the beaten path, where I could enjoy a game from my hometown, and have a good beer at the same time.

I found this bar via Citysearch, and after reading all of the reviews on here, I decided that I'd give it a try. The place lives up to and exceeds all expectations that were made here. I'd tell you a good beer or two to try, but by next week, the recommendations would be invalid, since the beer selection changes constantly! (which is a wonderful thing). I wasn't really aware that they had a bottle selection, but they do, and it is just as good as the selectioni that is on tap.

Like I said, I'm relocating to the area, and the bartenders and the customers here make me feel more than welcome in the area.

The only bad thing about this place is that there's no kitchen - not a big deal if you know that going in and don't expect to have dinner there. There's so many resturants in the immediate area that it's not really a problem. If you go one one of the nights that there is free food, then that's not even a problem!

Pros: Cheap microbrews, excellent atmosphere, all around good place!

Cons: No kitchen

Free pizza! Hard To Find Microbrews! Free wings!

by coreynyc

Dont go to Standings unless you like to hear the announcers on TV, hard to find microbrews at good prices (especially happy hour), the Mets, the Red Sox (though Yankee fans seem welcome), FREE PIZZA (Friday nights), FREE WINGS (Sunday & Monday Nights), or FREE BAGELS (Sat & Sun afternoon).

Its really a Red Sox bar but the owner is a Mets fan so its been my Mets game hangout as of late. I like being able to sit around and talk baseball with a bunch of guys in their 20s & 30s.

Pros: Free Food, Great Beer Selection, Good Prices

Cons: No kitchen, not enough female customers

GREAT SPORTS ATMOSPHERE

by dougg0724

This place is great with lots of character and it really know its audience. It's no for everyone though...don't expect to go to Standings and hear hip hop in the background as you watch LeBron light up the Wizards. You'll actually HEAR the play by play. It's beer and sports - sports and beer (and some wine I think). Pretty good beer at that too - lots of stuff I never heard of but it was pretty tasty. Nice, laidback place to hang with your buds...will definitely be back soon.

Pros: Friendly, Free Food

Cons: Red Sox fans

Abhor a "clean finish?"

Sorry to spoil the party for the Miller and Bud crowd, but having a beer with a clean finish (and a measly 3.2% ABV) is like watching a boring game. Fortunately, neither of these nightmares are features of this bar. Team getting blown out? They have the full sports package: no joke, I've seen high school cross country running - they have EVERYthing. Not sure what to get? It won't matter. The 12 taps of gourmet European and American microbrew beers (which I've seen get to 18% ABV - to do that kind of damage, think six Millers simultaneously, but without the letdown) rarely disappoint, not to mention a bottle list worthy of a Pulitzer.

Gregarious, managably sized crowd, very friendly and accomodating staff, amazing beer, free food for many big games - Highly Recommended (meaning don't tell anyone!)

Pros: great staff, AWESOME beer, relatively uncrowded

Standings is great: totally New York, and unpretentious. The ever-changing beer list contains many brews from rising local breweries and never disappoints. Highly recommended for sports snobs, beer people and everyone else.

Pros: Great staff, obscure, tasty beers, fun atmosphere

Everything I've ever wanted in a Bar

by symbols

The 5 screens at Standings show all the games via Satellite, so if your team is on the other side of the country-- they have it. It's a cozy place, but never too crowded to change a screen to whatever my friends and I want to watch. Standings even hosts alumni groups for games.

The 72-ounce mega pitchers (4.5pints) are a bargain at $22--not tasteless mass-produced beers, but handcrafted (and strong) microbrews. The bottle list boasts the best of what domestic microbrews offer, and a few wines. It changes all the time, so go in to check out the week's selection.

The people are cool, bartenders are awesome, and friendly regulars converse on beer and sports. At Standings, the best of beer meets the best of sports in a non-pretentious bar that feels like your neighborhood pub (not those loathesome frat-boy sports bars we've all learned to watch games in).

Pros: Awesome Beer, Many Sports Packages, Great Bartenders

Great Beer, Great Environment, Very Pricey

by rs695

Standings is a fantastic place to watch sports. The space is well laid out, so it never feels too crowded or loud. Plenty of screens for NFL Sunday Ticket addicts, and plenty of variety at the bar. While the beer selection is great, $24 for a pitcher is pretty stiff. But for the great atmosphere and abundance of screens, it's worth it.

Pros: beer selection, nfl sunday ticket, laid back crowd

Cons: pricey beer

This is the best place in New York to watch college sports! I went to Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington and Standings makes myself and fellows GU grads feel right at home always showing their games on satellite in a fun, spirited environment with FANTASTIC microbrews and occasional free pizza for my alumni group. It's a college basketball's fan's dreamspace (just watch out for the U of A fans who think they own the place...)

Pros: Beer Choice, T.V.'s, Sports packages

Love this bar for after work. The selection changes frequently- I can always try something new. I really like the special events like Oktoberfest and the free food at the bar. I can watch the Jets lose on nice flat screen tvs AND they have pitchers of good beer, which a lot of bars don't have. It's a great place to catch the game or just for happy hour.

Pros: beer selection, happy hour, pitchers
