I've been to Maloney & Porcelli twice but really only remember my second time - RW last winter. I like the ambiance - very spacious, simply elegant, dark wood interiors, etc., and I must note upfront that the service was exceptional, even for RW diners. There are often issues with the wait staff not being attentive to those dining off the RW menu, but this was absolutely not the case at Maloney & Porcelli. I thought their app, entree and dessert options were great and to think that you can get a 10 oz filet mignon as one of three dishes for $35, when the steak alone will cost you $30-45, is pretty outstanding. This is a must-try for RW, if you like steak that is.

Pros: Great RW Value and Steaks

Cons: Pricey, but not for a steakhouse

Very loud, very expensive, not great steak, not worth it

As I was caught in an unexpected rainstorm - and hungry - so this place wasn't a planned stop on my foodie itinerary for NYC. But the Gods looked out for me. At this one restaurant I found my new favorite cocktail (Sidecar), a steak to shame all steaks and a new dining standard -- all with many thanks to my fantastic server and a bartender who suddenly appeared to suggest a few cocktails after I made a face at the standard oversweet girly items on the list (I may be a girl but I believe high fructose corn syrup shouldn't be in martini glass!) Barely a nod from the server had the bartender at the table and I have to say that our slightly bedraggled, underdressed, rain-soaked group didn't scream "Big Tippers!" The second love of my life, Chateaubrand for Two, was introduced to me and my mother and neither of us felt embarrassed for threatening each other for the last bite. Housemade steak sauce was a tangy twist on the traditional, layered with flavors and a treat next to the steak which was already prepared, presented and delivered perfectly. I've had a few great steaks in my foodie existence but this went a step above - it was so flavorful and delicate and delicious and rich I'm not sure how else to explain it other than tell you I've been thinking about this steak for 6 months. My cocktail, the whipped potatoes and the bite I had of my friends' crackling pork dish also haunts my awake-and-hungry hours. We barely had to glance up to have the server at our table, they anticipated our every need (and the place wasn't empty!) so by the time we walked out of there the four of us were beautifully tipsy from cocktails, amazing food, and 60+ minutes of an amazing gastronomic adventure. You should go to this place, and sit, and enjoy, and meander out as happy as a sultry spring morning. (Yes, it's good enough to incite poetry!)

I love the atmosphere, real NewYorker, seems like a Woody Allen movie, few tourists.
Food: I normally get a big set of coquillage and a steak afterwards
Service: super-pro wiaters
I go there everytime I passed by NYC...

Forget about sitting at a table for dinner, sit at the bar. Donal and Colin are the best men you can have behind the stick. Great steak, great service and most important great booze. Managemnt is very professional and very accomadating to the customer base. Bottom line go there and you will not be dissappointed.

Maloney & Porcellii has a great Weekend Wine Special where you pay $75, get a three course meal (off the menu not a prefix!) and get unlimited wine. They put 4 glasses (champagne, white and 2 reds) in front of you and fill up whatever you are drinking most frequently. I've gone 4 times now on Friday evenings with intimate parties or in large groups and every time I have been so pleased with the evening. My steak was cooked perfectly and the wines were really impressive. The waiters have always been honest and attentive which is appreciated.

This special is made for the 25-35 year old crowd in the city who would love to get a great steak dinner and a couple bottles of wine but can't afforfd to go for the $200+ each that it takes without such a great special.

There are a lot of steakhouses to choose from, but my friend heard about this thing at Maloney and Porcelli that is $75 for a 3 course meal, and then unlimited wine (there are 4 wines offered). I have to say that it was AMAZING. The food was wonderful, and the wine was great (and a lot of it at that!). I'll definetly be back again soon.

My steak was overdone.
Send it back you say?
I would have if anyone had stayed around to see if it was correct when delivered, or if anyone had come by soon to see if "everything is ok".
I won't be back.

My friends and I have been going to this place for years, we have always enjoyed the Pork Shank and the Steaks! The service has always been friendly and the drinks are always top-notch. I was out of town for the summer and once I got back to NYC, the first place I wanted to head back to was Maloney & Porcelli. We made a reservation last Friday night, when we arrived we discovered that they now offer a "Wine Dinner" on the weekends - it's unbelievable, for $75.00 we got to select any appetizer, entree and dessert on the menu and along with that they free pour about four or five different types of wines with your meal! This was all included in the price! Hard to believe, my favorite place just keeps getting better. I think it's going to become our regular spot on the weekends!

We went to M&P last night with a group of friends for the $75 prix fix all-you-can-drink dinner and it was absolutely amazing. The food was great and the rib eye was one of the best cooked steaks I've ever had. The wines were great as well. Our server, Jason was friendly and funny and we had a great time with him. All in all, we'll deffinitely be back for the prix fix menu-- it's the best way to start off a great night.

I signed up on citysearch just to write a review of Maloney & Porcelli because I was so surprised at how bad our dinner was on Saturday night. My boyfriend and I are not picky eaters at all but we left there feeling like we would have been better off ordering a pizza. As an appetizer we ordered the crab cakes and the ravioli and both were very bland. As a main entree, he ordered steak and it had almost no flavor. I ordered the halibut and it didn't have any flavor either. Both were like a plain piece of meat on a dish with absolutely nothing done to it. The only thing we loved was the dessert. The cheesecake was phenomenal. But our bill came to $165 and many $50.00 dinner places in NYC would have delivered a more flavorful meal. I highly recommend looking elsewhere until this place spices up its menu a bit.

Held an informal alumni gathering there last night, and it couldn't have turned out better. Making a reservation was super-easy, and the hostess was extremely accomodating (and even called me back day-of to confirm). Our table was ready as soon as we got there, and when two more joined our party, the staff was quick to find two more chairs. Our waiter was attentive and had a great personality, and the FOOD was AMAZING! I recommend the tuna, and the seafood appetizer was also phenomenal. Overall, great experience.

My husband used to work in Manhattan and ate here weekly. Now when we visit NYC, we make a point to dine here first. Yes, it's pricey, but the filet was so good we think about it for a week afterward; and the fish stew (like buillabasse) is the best I've ever eaten! In fact, I ordered it as the meal and it was perfect. We love the crispy sesame flat bread. No problem splitting the house salad, which has an excellent house dressing. The wine selection is satisfactory. I guess what brings us back every time, though, is the service. We find the waitors very attentive, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is pleasant, not dim or loud, and romantic. We feel our dining money is well spent here! Highly recommended.

This one of the best places in NYC to eat at the bar. The old-school professional Irish bartenders give the best service in town. They have had the same staff for years and do not have the high turn over of staff like many NYC establishments. The food is great, look for the white cheese pizza often on the special board.

As far as steakhouses go, there are finer outlets in the area. That said, Maloney & Porcelli did things a little differently in terms of presentation (the porterhouse came with several interesting garnishes on the plate) and the use of homemade steaksauce, but, on the whole, there is no reason to go here over any of the other steakhouses in the area.

I've been to this restaurant twice, once for dinner and once for Sunday brunch. The food was very good. I had the filet for dinner and a filet and poached egg sandwich for brunch. Both times they got my steak right. The service was courteous and the place very clean and attractive. The appetizers and soups are huge. Be careful when ordering soup before a steak. You may not be able to finish it all. The Sunday brunch is very reasonably priced.

Possibly the worst service I have ever received at a restaurant of this caliber. Wrong drinks arrived, mixed-up drink orders, wrong cutlery removed, wrong dinners served, no dessert service. Coffee lukewarm at best.
I have had better service at a corner diner and it didnt cost me $300.00 plus.
Mind you the restaurant was almost completely vacant on a Saturday night at 8:00 PM! And we were seated upstairs in an empty restaurant.
The food was alright for what it was, and I'd like to have the pork shank again, but not at this locale.

if you decide you want to try something different, like i did, let me warn you NOT to order the crackling pork shank...unless you are bringing a jackhammer. this is their signature dish, sounds interesting on the menu, served with spicy applesauce. however, you will soon learn that crackling on the outside of the shank is so hard, that you need a tool stronger than a knife. once cracking thru the crackling, i found the pork dry, grislely, and not partcularly flavorful. i also had the lobster springroll appetizer...another bad choice, virtually no lobster, and somewhat rancid tasting. everyone else seemed to like their steak, on the bright side.

I had lunch here a few weeks ago with a group of about 7. Everyone was very pleased with the food. Not one complaint. The sides dishes are the best, especially the fries, grilled vegetables and creamy lumpless mashed potatoes. One order serves at least 2 people, maybe 3. And you should also know that the entrees come as is. You must purchase your side dishes separately. Which in my mind is a negative. But nevertheless we enjoyed ourselves and I would definitely go back!

It's all done well here - except the steaks which are best served medium rare... All the trappings of the NY Steakhouse - with an airy atmosphere that you works as well on a date as a night out with the boys... expect a huge glass of bourbon, giant shellfish and a tremendous cut of meat... the most stylish of the top end steakhouses in the city... My family and I went there for a birthday celebration.. and the only thing that I found to be the best part was the dessert.
I thought there wasn't enough of a selection of entrees, and what they offered was very pricey!
Our waiter was not attentive, and his personality was awful. I would NOT go back there at all.
