I found this restaurant on my most recent trip to NY, my girlfriend and I were in town for the weekend, and I suggested restaurant row for dinner since there are so many options. She's a vegetarian and the number of options on the menu for vegetarians attracted us to the restaurant. We went in and were greeted by a very nice woman. She had us seated in less than ten minutes. We were given ample time to pick out our meals (perhaps a little too much, but it was nice to not be rushed in a busy restaurant). We were brought some bread, and before we could even finish one piece, our meals were brought out piping hot. The food was amazing. She got the fettuccine alfredo and said it was excellent, and I went for the Veal Saltimbocca which was exquisite. After we finished our meal, we were presented with a dessert menu that was very tempting, we got cannoli and the peanut butter chocolate pie, both of which were amazing. The service was excellent and we never felt rushed at all, which tends to be a problem in NY restaurants. The food is as authentic as the decor, I know, I lived in Italy and I know Italian food. This is a find, and the prices are great too!

Pros: Quick Seating, great food, great dessert menu

Cons: Tables are a little close to neighbors, but that's italian style for ya

We were there on March 3, 2007 and our experience was the polar opposite of the previous reviewer. Looking for a place to eat after a matinee performance of Les Miserables we noticed Capri. My niece and daughter said that it looked like the place they tried a few years back and it was great then. So in we went. A warm, friendly greeting followed by an immediate seating started us off. Our table was near the front and I always sit facing the door in NYC so I was able to watch everyone who entered. Everyone was treated warmly, even the guy who arrived with a large keyboard he had just bought.
The service was prompt, the food was great (all four of us agreed), and the prices were fine. The place is fairly small and it is cozy.

We will be back and we have told all our family & friends to make sure they try it.

Don't miss the calamari - it was fantastic.

Customer service? What customer service? The pasta took 40 minutes to arrive. The basket of bread contained 4 hard measly pieces. The tea was just a kettle of hot water. But the most unprofessional part of the whole experience, and the one that made us re-consider giving it a passing grade, was at the end of our meal when we re given a check that included an 18% gratuity. No, there weren?t 6 of us, just 2, and they included what they thought they should get. When we asked the waitress, she became really defensive and in a thick Stalin-era tone declared that every restaurant in Manhattan charges this gratuity no matter how many people eat at the table. Hmm...15 years of living in Manhattan, and this is the first time I hear of such nonsense. The manager became livid and was firing off rehearsed comments talking over us. When told that we will never return, because they mishandled this minor issue, he answered that he doesn't care and that there are plenty of regulars that do. DOUBTED. SO, Don't go there, don't eat there but if you do, expect to be charged a tip according to restaurant's evaluation of their own service. If you a tourist, pick a different place, and if you're a local, go to the other million restaurants that we have in this wonderful town, but DEFINITELY skip this one.

My friend and I went to Capri last night and enjoyed it very much. The decor is quite quaint and would be a perfect date place. It's small but cozy. The food was excellent and much to my delight, HOT. The prices are reasonable too. Our waiter was attentive and very friendly, always offering a smile. I was too stuffed for the dessert but would have loved to try something! Will bring my boyfriend next time!

My friend and I were walking along Restaurant Row to find a nice, quiet place to have dinner. When we came to Capri, we knew right away that this was where we wanted to be!
The restaurant is very welcoming and has the perfect ambience for a relaxing, intimate dinner.
With old-fashioned Italian music playing gently in the background, and candlelight providing a warm, soft glow throughout the restaurant, it genuinely captures the essence of Italy.
Not only this, but the food is absolutely exquisite. From appetizers to dessert, every bite leaves you wanting for more.
This is one restaurant I absolutely recommend.
