Josie's has become a go to when my sister in law is in town. We first started going there when I lived a few blocks away. It is worth the tip back to Murray Hill for the great selection of organic and natural dishes. Always something to please everyone on the menu. Be sure to save room for dessert. Especially during berry season.

The staff here has always been attentive. My family can be 'high maintenance' diners and they have always been more than accommodating.

Good news for those who don't want to trudge over to the Third Avenue frat row... Josie's delivers.

I order online from Josie's all the time. When I called today to place my order, I asked for a vegan dessert and was advised that the lemon pie was a great vegan choice. When my food arrived I took one bite of the pie and was immediately suspicious. I went online to see the ingredients and the pie included milk.

I'm very dissapointed because I love Josie's, but I don't think it's right for them to be careless about informing their customers what's vegan or not. Especially for a restaurant that projects themselves to be so eco-conscious you would think that they would take extra care to correctly inform their customer's what's in their dishes.

The manager's advice: always ask for the chef if you need to know what's in your dish.

I've been to Josie's a few times on the East side. I enjoy the family feel and lively decor. I always thought that food was great tasting as well as filling but in a light healthy way. A couple times though, my guests and I were rushed to finish with our drinks and leave. We were considering desert but I suppose it was not for us to decide. This was about a year ago. I went in not long after and the wait for a table was very long because the poor hostess kept getting scolded for everything. The manager pretty much called her dumb right in front of us, but she looked young so maybe she had just started. Later when we finally were seated and had our food orders, the waiter came up to check on us, and though he was polite, he misunderstood and thought that we all wanted another round of drinks. When we told him that we didn't order anymore to drink he called over the manager because he wasn't sure what to do. The manager, who I learned was Craig, said that we had to pay for it. Even after the waiter said that he made the mistake the manager said "well you have it at your table right? you can just drink it?" and then turned to the waiter and said "if they don't you will...so deal with it".

Luckily, I went back to Josie's and it seems this manager doesn't work here any longer. The entire staff seems at ease and the food is still delicious!

Pros: Good food, Better management

Cons: bad memories of bad manager and staff

The juice bar was great, where they mixed different vegetables together in one unique drink. I also had the portabella mushroom burger was good too. I am not much of a veggie eater either but liked it.

Enjoyable weekday lunch. However, the service wasn't great. Server forgot our appetizer, and also food didn't come out at the same time. We had a party of 8, and each time, someone's app or entree was on a different schedule.

Love Josies for food but it gets so crowded. Go off hours and you will enjoy the service and dining much better. The portobello mushroom sushi is amazing! Try the mango tea as well it is so yummy!

i had lunch on a friday with clients at josie's. the menu is splendidly diverse: serving everything from great sushi to egg white omelets - both at noon. i would definitely recommend this place for lunch any day of the week. my complaints are twofold: soda should never be charged by the glass (furthermore at least ask if anyone wants refills) and a salad selection would be great.

This place makes good turkey meatballs and nice juice drinks, ice teas, etc.. and I'm glad they're in the neighborhood, but sometimes I'm less than impressed by other entrees and it's just way overpriced for what it is. I'll probably go back because it's so close, but I think I prefer it for brunch or lunch where you get a better value.

Before dining at Josies I had some concerns based on the reviews here, but I enjoyed my meal there. I was seated promptly even though i didn't have a reservation and the restaurant was full. My waiter was obviously overwhelmed but was attentive and got ous our food and drinks on time. The meal was satisfying, especially the grilled tuna, and there is an interesting wine list. I think a lot of the complaints about this place are based on isolated incidents as everyone in the restaurant was having a good time and the staff was working hard. Also I think a lot of the people who lodge complaints on this site in general know nothing about the restaurant industry in New York. The food is a little overpriced though

I gave this place 3 chances and each time it got worst. The food is ok, but way over priced. The service is horrible. We waited more than a half hour for drinks, and then another half hour for the bill. The hostess/manager then accused us of being rude to her and proceeded to lecture me about MY attitude. Then the waiter sarcastically apologized for the WORST SERVICE EVER. Don't go here and waste your time and money, dining there is pure aggravation.

I took my Personal-Trainer-LA-Friend to Josies because I knew she only ate healthy, light, food. The cuisine didnt disappoint! In pervious reviews many comments were made on the poor service. I, however, found our waiter to be helpful, attentive, and polite. He recommended the Thai Shrimp and Dumplings which were excellent! The portions were a nice size, and we didnt feel stuffed leaving the restaurant, just full. I would recommend Josies East to anyone looking for healthy, clean, cuisine.

Lately a MISS! Wine served in an unclean glass with soap in it; mentioned it to server who did not apologize or offer a new glass - no manager came up.

Went and sat at bar another time thinking maybe decent attention here & nada!

Ordered in two weeks later forgot the sides and food undercooked.

Tried again for Brunch and really bad server with HUGE attitude. Hello, I am the customer and would like to be treated as such, 3X you're out & Josie's you're out!

I recently had the pleasure of eating at josies last week. My family and I live in Florida but were on vacation in NY; We had ended up there because of a glowing recomendation from a neighbor. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys healthy food! The staff was polite and more than gracious in regards to sevice and understanding when it came to my kids. The food itself was fresh and tasty and despite what I have read in some other reviews here...served in a acceptable amount of time. New restaurants open and close all the time but I think this one is here to stay!

Went w/ a friend on CINCO DE MAYO after we saw line to neighboring Mexican restaurant was blocks long.
While the food was FABULOUS (esp the vegetarian platter, calamari appetizer and shrimp "unfried" rice) and they make a good mojito, it took us a LONG time to receive our food and waiter wasn't the most attentive... he asked us if we wanted dessert, before we received our entree... Would def go back though b/c of the great food/ambience (can sit outside in nice weather)

We chose Josies because some of the guests in our party of 5 are vegetarians. The hostess was polite and seated us promptly even though the restaurant was full. We were a little confused about choosing a wine because of the varied meals that we ordered. The manager was walking around talking to the guests, so we asked him to help us. He recommended two of his finest wines. We were really impressed with the professionalism and kindness shown by the Manager and the staff. We had a very delightful experience and cant wait to return.

My friends and I (a group of 5 women) ate here last night. Everything was fine until we received our check without asking for it and then were basically told to wrap things up and get out because they had people waiting. 2 people at the table still had full glasses of wine! The manager himself was the one who came over to us. He is an incredibly rude person who clearly does not know how to run a restaurant. The food is not good enough to warrant that kind of behavior. Needless to say we won't be back.

5 girls came in for dinner with a 7pm reservation. Our waitress came over and rudely interrupted one of my friends mid-sentence to make herself known. She then dropped the check down on the table without asking if anyone wanted anything else to drink ( 3 glasses were empty). The manager then comes over to the table and asks us to leave - to help him out because there were people waiting! we had full drinks on the table! We tried to speak with him afterwards to explain that we were not finished, had eaten a whole meal with drinks and a reservation, so should be allowed to sit as long as we like. I was told that he had families with children waiting and that he was sorry but cannot talk to me any more because he has people to take care of!!

About two minutes after my boyfriend and I were seated, our waiter asked for our order. I asked for a little more time to make a decision; apparently I should've said "Could we have a few more minutes to look over the menu? But then please come back" because he didn't. He took our food and drink order 15 minutes later and vanished again. We waited another 20 MINUTES without even getting our drinks! I noticed our drinks on the bar with 7 or 8 others just sitting there. Finally we got our drinks (which were warm) and shortly after that we received our food. The food was certainly not good enough to have to sit with water for 35-40 minutes. I was so disappointed with my experience here that neither we nor anyone I've told about this place will ever go there again.

the food here is simply amazing...the bread and hummus dip, the seared tuna salad, the chicken stir-fry...i've tried em all and I love them. but the place does get crowded, making it difficult to get second the bread (and ull want them). it's not cheap, but it's worth it, esp when there are so many place in nyc that serve mediocre food at similar prices.

I recently decided to eat only free-range chicken and vegetarian foods. Josie's has it and, oh, it's good. The food is original and tasty, not like you'd expect your vegetables to be. I'm surprised at all the negative reviews about the service. We went on a friday night at 6pm. We called ahead to make reservations as suggested, but it was not necessary. We were immediatly seated and given bread to start. The pineapple calamari is the best I've ever had. I would go back just for that. My only complaint was the drink. It was too strong and not very tasty for a cocktail. But still, I recommend Josie's.

DO NOT eat here unless you have ample time to waste waiting for your meal. I brought a large party here for lunch recently. We were neglected by the wait staff, none of our meals were brought out at the same time, and one of our party was brought the wrong meal--TWICE.

We approached the host and manager politely after the meal but only received a simple and insincere "Sorry". Clearly they have no regard for their customers, nor interest in having you return to dine again.

I went with two of my friends. We were seated promptly, and then proceeded to wait almost twenty minutes for a server to acknowledge our presence. Servers were hurriedly running around the restaurant, but no one even saw us. When I explained to the hostess that we had been seated for 20 minutes without anyonen even bringing us water, the hostess responded that it normally takes about 20 minutes before a server comes along. That's just plain ridiculous. For as busy as this place is, the owner could afford to hire additional servers. The food is good but unless you make some noise, no one will help you.

I was disappointed by the service at Josie's. The hostess was rude, noting that I couldn't be seated until my entire party had arrived (not uncommon in NY) and I couldn't make a reservation in person for when my party did arrive because reservations had to be made more than an hour in advance. Also, they don't accept reservations after 7:30. When I told the hostess this was a confusing policy, she suggested I call ahead, and have it explained to me.
I could overlook service if the food was worth the money--but it wasn't. The menu sounds good but is basically uninspired. My $17 hamburger didn't taste any better than the ones I get from my neighborhood diner for half the price.

If you're looking for quality food and great ambience in Murray Hill, Josie's is THE place to go. Now with their full sushi menu, I can actually eat there 2-3 times a week and feel like I'm getting something totally different each time. Their menu has so much to choose from and the portions are great. The Thai shrimp roll, blackbean dumplings are great to start off with but my all time favorites are the josie's combo plate with tamari brown rice YUMMM! and their burgers are all delicious. The decor is clean and modern, a great place to hang out after work and even for a nice romantic date. Don't forget to order the lemon ribbon pie for dessert!!

Josie's was a pleasant surprise. The food on the menu is actually healthy and all tasted very fresh. May not have the super service you will find at some ultra exclusive expensive restaurants, but for the prices you get what you pay for and can feel good instead of guilty after eating out. Menu is diverse enough to find something even if you aren't vegetarian or don't focus on healthy eating.

located in prime murray hill, i suppose i would expect nothing less than attitude from girls my own age, but had been there a while ago and wanted to see it again. no thanks. while the food is delicious (slightly over priced for chicken on a bed of greens & makrel rolled up in rice . . .) i would prefer to eat tacos from a stand in the west village than have the host first shoo us away till our entire party arrived (while the restaurant remained empty) and then stand there while our whole party waited until she finally said, would you like to be seated . . now? for better salads & dishes, try SUPPER on 2nd b/w A-B.

I'm surprised by the slew of bad reviews, because my boyfriend and I love this restaurant and frequently recommend it to visitors who want to have a healthy meal in a restaurant with a nice ambience and which isn't expensive. Perhaps people who prefer rich or spicy food wouldn't like Josie's, but the food IS tasty and you don't feel horrible afterwards. My boyfriend, who is definitely not a vegetarian, loves the chicken dish here, and I almost always get the stir fry. We have also never had bad service here. They may be a little slow, but not to the point that I was annoyed. I only wish they gave bigger appetizer portions, because the calamari and shrimp are yummy!

What fun I had at this healthful eatery! My sexy server, Peter, was helpful in my deciphering their diverse, ecclectic menu. The sushi is phenomenal! Don't be fooled by all the tofu and soy beans, the seafood is sensational! Go now!

A friend wanted to eat at this one. The staff was polite, but amazingly slow considering that the place was half empty. When the salad finally arrived it was fine, a mix of fresh greens. The entree, however, had more in common with the food at my college dorm cafeteria than that of other restaurants in the price range. Not worth it at half the price.

Sure the place look great and trendy, but the food is lacking. The food is pricey for that type of quality. The place can get really loud, so expect to lose your voice by the end of the night.

Pretty restaurant, good pre-meal bread. Food quality not that great for the price. Not a huge menu selection. Acoustics weren't too great.

unless your idea of romance is shouting over the noise of the 3rd avenue traffic near the midtown tunnel while choking on the fumes from the buses which stop right outside the restaurant, don't take a date here. even if you sit inside the restaurant instead of at an outdoor table, they keep the doors open to ensure that we all get to enjoy the pleasures of 3rd avenue road rage and m103 fumes. the menu is limited, with only a few choices per food category (chicken, beef, fish, vegetarian, etc.) and very expensive for what you get. we got there at least 15 mins before another party yet their order was taken first. finally, i decided to order a cake to go. when i got home, my $6.50 tiny slice of cake wasn't even the one i had ordered. whatever it was tasted like a cold grilled cheese sandwich.

I had been to Josie's numerous time because of their health-conscious menu, and their (usually) decent service.
But on one occassion I was so disappointed at how terribly they treated my party, that I will never go there again. The waitress got an order wrong, and instead of fixing the mix-up, she decided to ignore us and wait on other tables. We got the manager's attention, but he didnt do anything either. The waitress blamed the kitchen, the manager blamed the waitress, but no one fixed the situation. By the time something was done, all our food was cold and our appetite was totally lost. We didnt eat a thing and asked for our check. Our waitress didnt even notice that our food had not been touched. I was so disappointed, because I had thought Josies was an OK place, but from that experience, I will never dine there agian.

I went to Josie's for the first time 1 year ago and find myself back there almost every week. It is a great place to take a date or go with your friends. The atmosphere is extremely cosy and trendy with a friendly staff. The menu and food make the restaurant a 10 - healthy; affordable; different; huge selection to choose from including Pastas; fishes; chicken and beef. The fact that this place is in Murrey Hill make it a sure winner in the area. The only problem I encountered was on Mother's Day; we had a horrible waitress. Our food was wrong and service was slow. The manager gave us a free meal. That's Customer Service!!

Food is great. Organic/health conscious type of menu with a good variety and decent prices. Ambiance is fabulous--very trendy decor and great, young crowd. Service is impeccable. Great drinks too! By far my favorite restaurant in Manhattan!

Business must be too good to bother treating customers well. Not only does this place not keep reservations, but you do not even hear an apology for making you wait by the bar to make you spend more money bec. their table is not ready. The hosts are simply rude. This place should not even have the same name as its west side sister establishment, which is excellent. Next time, do like I do and walk out when treated poorly. Stick with the West Side Josies.
