What a great find! I've lived in New York for 10 years been to lots of spas but just found this one through a friend. I love it. The facial was incredible and unlike other spas you do not feel like tehfacial is all about selling you

Once a 2 months, I get the eyelash perm service at the Shizuka Day Spa. The spa is quiet and has very relaxing ambiance. The service is very good, and the best thing is that perm itself lasts longer than other spas I have visited. I

My girlfriend recommended that we go to Shizuka's Spa, I'm so glad that I listened to her because we had a? wonderful experience.? We only had time for a mani/pedi but the atmosphere was so relaxing and I was treated like royalty. All the details were thought of from the temperature of the water to the comfy cushions we sat on. They even had my favorite color. I will definitely be going back!

PS: The green tea? and snacks are? delicious

I did laser hair removal, but the machine was too old! They cool the skin with ice since the machine doesn't have the cooling function, which the new machines have. .so it takes a loong time and painful.
Micro facial wasn't too bad but nothing special or impressive, either.
Also I noticed many astheticians quit very fast.

Shizuka New York is a beautiful, serene spa. The staff is friendly and accomodating. I went with a friend a couple of weeks ago and had a manicure/pedicure with 30 minute reflexology and it was one of the best I ever had. If you book a reflexology appointment, you must ask for Takumi - fabulous! Shizuka also came over to us and offered us wine and chocolate for Valentine's Day. I felt the staff was very attentive and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. I would definitely go back to Shizuka's, and in the very near future.

The first thing you notice is how clean this place is. I like the Japanese esthetic and I especially appreciate that you don't feel you are being rushed like at other spas I've been to. The technicians are knowledgeable and polite and no one pushes products or other services at you. It is peaceful and calm and that's just how you feel after a facial over here. Definite thumbs up!

I recently had an awesome massage experience at ShizukaNY. I had never really had a professional massage, but boy was I in for a treat. I was greeted by a very pleasant woman at the front desk and was directed to go change into a Japanese-style robe and slippers. Very relaxing. The decor and lighting also helped set a very relaxing and mellow mood, which was nice. Next thing I know, I'm face down on a padded (very very comfortable) massage table getting worked on by one of their pros. The next half-hour or so were a blur as the masseuse took the tension out of every muscle in my body. I can't even remember what she did that was so good, you'll just have to find out for yourself! Needless to say, I felt like a human puddle after she was through with me. Most relaxed I've felt in a long long time. Little cookies and green tea afterward only added to the pampered feeling. The only down-side was having to leave. I was in a fog (a really really nice fog) for the next hour or so, so be warned: do NOT operate heavy machinery after an hour at ShizukaNY! Highly highly recommended.

I have found nirvana and it is located just off of 5th Avenue on west 51st Street at Shizuka New York. Last Friday, after an extremely stressful week, working for an extremely demanding boss, I decided to treat myself to a facial. A friend had recommended Shizuka?s and since I work in the neighborhood, I decided to give it a go.

Upon arrival I was immediately impressed with the Asian aesthetic. I was given a kimono, with terry slippers, and a cup of green tea. I could feel my stress start melting away. I decided to get the Micro-Facial, which is a deep cleansing facial with a neck, shoulder, hand and foot massage. Takumi, my aesthetician, has the gentlest touch. From the way she removed my make-up to the way she unclogged my pores. I was transformed; I left my body and floated away. After 90 minutes of sheer bliss, I was gently brought back to earth to find myself totally relaxed with fabulous looking skin.

If you?re like me, and need a mini-vacation to relieve the tension of working in Manhattan, Shizuka New York is the place to go. I can?t wait to go back next week for Anti-Aging Treatment.

My friend and I booked a Geisha facial during Spaweek, we both understand that things can get a little hectic during Spaweek but we were treated so poorly that I had to write this review.

Our experience started with a very rude doorman who shouted for our names and shouted "you sixth floor, you sixth floor too" My friend and I had a 7PM appointment and we arrived at 6:40PM. We waited for about 10min until the manager finally approached us to let us know that they had double booked us and said "sorry but there is nothing that he could do about it" and that "if we were him what would we had him do?" He said that there were only 2 therapists available for the 7PM time slot and that he could "accommodate" us on another day (he did not mention free). We were both surprised because if they had booked 3 of us and me and my friend showed up first then doesn't it make sense to honor our appointments? FINALLY, the other girl with the 7PM appointment showed up and he actually LINED US UP on the sofa and said "Sorry but I think we double booked an appointment, there is nothing that I can do right now but ONE OF YOU WILL HAVE TO COME BACK ANOTHER DAY" Me and my friend could not believe he put us in such an awkward position but luckily the other girl offered to have her facial at 7:50PM albeit not without a little bit of attitude towards us. We just could not apprehend why they would treat their clients like that especially when they know that they were the one who made the mistake. Instead of rectifying the situation they decided that they wanted 3 unhappy clients.

The facial tho rush was decent. I got Shizuka and she mentioned right before the facial that this will be a shorten version of their regular Geisha facial (which although was not advertised earlier) I was fine with.

i've been to several reknowned spas and this one takes the cake. i'm usually pretty particular about the places i go to, i'm a loyalist through and through. i don't mind spending the money, as long as the quality of work is what i feel is my money's worth. looking up on google, i came across shizuka as a new york mag best of facial. i immediately booked an appt with shizuka herself, and was excited from all the amazing reviews i had read about her. when i first showed up for my appt i was directed to change into a more comfortable robe and soon, shizuka led me into a room for a consultation. after briefly distinguishing my concerns from my problems, she suggested that i go with the micro facial. i had made it clear that i was willing to pay whatever i had to clear up the recent bout of congestion my skin had been suffering, but since she knew i was going to hawaii within the following weeks, she recommended that we hold off on the LED light or microdermabrasion.

i really respected her honesty. i've worked in skin care for years, and knowing i was going to be in the sun, i wouldn't have opted for either one. such harsh sun as can be found in hawaii would wreak havoc on my new layer of skin. i really like the fact that shizuka is quite professional and not pushy at all. from now on, i plan on going to her for all my facial needs. when i emerged that day, i had slight redness (which is only natural from extractions). i have purchased her moisturizer and the naturopathica 10% gel to clear up the congestion. i'm waiting a full month before i see results (your skin renews itself every 30 days), but will keep you updated!

the only thing, as someone has prior mentioned, is that not that many extractions were done as other places i have been to. albeit my skin was pretty congested, i have been to other places where they have done long arduous extractions and i would still choose shizuka over them.

I have had botox one time before, but thought I'd try this place because it is closer to my office. Dr. Silich was very patient and answered all of my questions. His botox injections were quick and less painful than I remember from before. While I was there I decided to have a manicure also. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. I also liked their green tea. I will probably go back next time.

When I read an article about Shizuka?s Day Spa I thought ?An Asian atmosphere in the middle of our hectic Manhattan environment?. What a great idea! Since I enjoyed several vacations in Asian countries, I looked forward to the appointment I made at Shizuka?s. It turned out to be more than I expected. From the moment I stepped out of her private elevator to her 6th floor retreat, it became my wonderland. I was too early for my appointment so an attractive receptionist led me into the Lounge. She seated me in one of the upholstered armchairs and served me green tea with delicately thin delicious cookies. It was such a calm and soothing environment. Every detail was perfect including the soft lights and soothing music. When the aesthetician introduced herself, I was already relaxed. She guided me into a treatment room and gave me a comfortable gown to change into. S he examined my face with microscopic lenses and suggested a micro facial to rid me of facial whiteheads and a Wrinkle Buster treatment for the deep lines around my lips. I had a few minutes of discomfort while she did her job. After the difficult part, she gently massaged my face with several different soothing, yummy creams. The result of the hour long procedure was amazing. After I dressed, she took me into the make-up room where she analyzed the results. I was delighted. My complexion glowed!!!! The face in the mirror appeared ten years younger. I made another appointment for the following week and included time for the manicure and pedicure the spa offered. My total experience at the Spa was wonderfully uplifting. My honest opinion is ?two thumbs up?.

I had been going to Shizuka for a number of years and was very pleased with the spa's services and prices. It seems like the price point of services may have increased recently (or I may have noticed it more recently), relative to other spas that offer similar or same services. The business hours during the week used to be an hour later than is currently, which has also prevented me from returning. I think the receptionists and the aestheticians are very professional, pleasant and nice. I am not so sure if it is worth paying the premium to go to the spa, when I can get the same level of service at a cheaper price elsewhere.

I had a Micro Facial at Shizuka NY and I totally enjoyed it. I have really oily skin and I get nervous about having facials but they really customized it to my skin. The technician asked a lot of questions to make sure that it was the right one for me. When she said my face was in need of hydrating, I got concerned, but she was totally dead on right. My face hasn't felt or looked this good in a long time.

And usually at spas when they say it takes 50 minutes, they usually include the time it takes for them to get their equipment ready, but they didn't do that. This one was totally unhurried and relaxing the entire time. I especially loved that they constinuously massaged my face, my neck, even my hands and feet during the treatment so it didn't feel like just another facial. I'll be heading in again soon.

Seriously ladies, spend your money elsewhere. I am a frequent spa-goer (Ohm Spa and Thai privilege among my favorites), and I had a miserable experience at this spa. First, I was made to wait for 45 minutes for the facialist to retrieve me from the waiting area for my 5:30 appointment. I had dinner plans for the evening which I was getting late for, so when I asked to reschedule, the receptionist kept insisting "she'll be right out". Everyone seemed thoroughly incompetent -- once my facialist received me, she performed everything so hurriedly and awkwardly; she seemed pretty inexperienced, and did not make me feel the least bit at ease/pampered. There were also atrocious overhead lights on the entire time, and the entire place is much uglier than other spas.

Please go to Ohm spa, Thai privilege, or elsewhere for a truly pampering experience that is well-worth your money.

I am a repeat client at Shizuka and am very happy with my recent Micro-Facial. Lisa was my facialist and she was very sweet, precise and not product pushy at all. My extractions didn't even hurt (which you understand if they do since they're not supposed to be pleasant) and she used this amazing pumpkin enzyme mask on my face! The massage was great too. I left without worrying about hailing a cab home because my skin was not red and bruised at all...I took the subway..ha. I go to different spas but Shizuka is one of the only ones I plan on being a repeat client over and over again. I highly recommend them.

At Shizuka New York, I finally let someone else take charge of my skincare. I'd had a horrible experience years ago with my first facial at a different spa, where I'd left with burning, raw-feeling skin that took hours to calm down. After that I determined I would never get another facial - until I turned thirty and decided maybe it was time to rethink that decision. My clinician at Shizuka's was super-considerate, paying attention to what I'd written on my intake form and asking me about my skin concerns. She told me what she was using, and kept checking in with me to see how I was feeling, which is what I'd told her I needed. And the experience itself was divine - plenty of deep cleansing, but also soothing massage on my face, neck, hands and feet. And when I left - no inflammation, no irritation - just the glow I'd been hoping for. I would definitely go back for more.

I had a signature micro-facial with Shizuka about a week ago... First of all, the spa is beautiful. Very nice, relaxing environment, and the orange/strawberry-infused water is soooo good! The facial was nice... I have very sensitive skin and Shizuka used very mild products that did not irritate it at all. The massage incorporated in was also nice, and it was overall, one of the most pleasant facials I have ever had. Shizuka was extremely knowledgeable about the product line and offered a great deal of good advice on how best to take care of my skin. And she was really nice :) However, the results were not as good as I have gotten at other spas. My pores were smaller and my skin cleared a little bit, but even a week later, there is a lot more redness to my skin than I have seen in a while... which is surprising, since the products felt very mild. I'm not sure if this is just a delayed reaction to one of the products, the facial itself, or just the fact that my skin is very sensitive and it's hot and humid outside, so I still highly recommend Shizuka because it was, nonetheless, a very pleasant and soothing facial and the spa is lovely.

Pros: Extremely comfortable and great-feeling facial, but...

Cons: a fair amount of redness that I haven't seen in a while...

I've been to Shizuka for both her micro facial and hair removal. Shizuka was very nice, knowledgeable and attentive. The facial was very relaxing and included an arm/hand massage and foot/leg massage. The only comment I have is that there were less extractions than other places I've been to.

I booked an appt during a trip to NY after reading the reviews. Price is standard & treatment good, but not "the best". Since it was my vacation, I hoped for a more spa like experience. Unfortunately, I was disappointed w/; the lack of luxuries & the ambiance, thin walls that let you hear noise from next door, and no pampering from staff. This is a good place to go if those things don't matter. I also wasn't asked about my preference for esthetician.

The quality of service at Shizuka is phenomenal - the treatments are gentle, but really effective. The spa is lovely - very pretty, serene - you relax just by walking in. Shizuka's Micro Facial is the best facial i've ever had -- and i've gone EVERYWHERE in this city! I emerged with cleansed pores, no blotchiness, no redness, no breakouts two days later. Her treatments are longer than most and her staff is really attentive and warm. I've been several times and experienced both Shizuka and other staff and think that they are all excellent, but shizuka herself has the most incredible touch i've ever experienced in a facial.

So price is a little steep but I am willing to pay the premium for the comfort of knowing nothing will go wrong. I've actually never had Shizuka herself but all her staffers are well-trained and offer the utmost care when treating you. I've tried a bunch of so-called high-end spas around the city but nobody has been able to offer quality customer service like Shizuka Salon does. Their new space is bigger and nicer than their old place.

I got a micro facial from Yoshika. She was very nice and professional, and the ambience was so soothing and amazing! The facial was very different from the ones I had gotten before; it did not hurt even half as much when she was removing my blackheads. Her face massage relaxed me totally. I had recently had a massage from Juvenex spa and it hurt me even after 3 days. But after Yoshika massaged my feet, hands, and shoulders, I felt so relaxed and good, and all that pain went away. I loved the scent of the stuff that she used on my face, and she was very gentle with my skin. Which was a relief given that at Juvenex the person had, while massaging me, turned my face abruptly time and again and was very rough. I am definitely going back!

They really take their time, and give you a very thorough cleaning. Always asking if you are comfortable. Good products used - my face looks truly very clean!! Give it 3-4 days to settle down though - skin was irritated, and it was painful at times.

She is a miracle worker. I battled with my skin for years; dryness, breakouts, scarring, seisitivity, oily patches. You name it. As a young 20something New Yorker, my skin is constantly abused by late night partying, long hours of make-up wearing, alcohol. She made my skin so magically good you can never tell I had any skin problems before or now!! You won't breakout after extractions either, which is a miracle.

I had an amazing facial with Shizuka the other day. I had read in NY magazine that she is the skin care Guru and wanted to find out myself. I was so excited to see her. She looked much younger than I had expected for a salon owner. Her facial was extremely thorough I never had that kind of treatment before. For an hour and a half I felt like I was being transported to heaven. Shizuka patiently listened to my concerns about my skin and gave me many useful tips on how to care for it. She was warm, but very professional and this seemed to carry through to her staff. I highly recommend this salon.and it was a real luxury treat being treated by the Guru herself.

I have been going to see Shizuka, owner of Shizuka New York, for permanent hair removal. People know her as the facial guru, but not as an electrologist. She says her hair removal clients come from word of mouth and doctors referrals. Shizuka removes hair in some areas by laser and on other parts by electrolysis. It is a real art. I had gone to other people before I went Shizuka, but never had satisfaction from their treatments. I am very happy about results I have gotten here. She was also so kind to explain what she was doing. Her knowledge of her field is extraordinary. I am so happy to recommend this place.

I went to this place on a whim, and regret not going sooner!! I had a Micro Facial with Yoshika. The most unbelieveable facial in my life!!! She did a great job extracting my pores and I had no red marks afterwards! She is very gentle, yet gives a good massage. She made sure I was relaxed every step of the way!! The Micro Facial is a good deep cleansing facial with about a 1/2 hour massage on your face, shoulders, arms, hands, feet and upper legs. Even when I thought the facial was over, I sat up and she was massaging my shoulders!! I highly recommend this place!! For $130, 90 minute facial, it's definitely worth it!

I've been going to shizuka for a few years now and the service is always wonderful. The place is small so the atmosphere is left wanting however the facial and the eyelash perm are great! In both cases they are attentive and gentle. I highly recommend this place. Enjoy!!!

I had a crystal peel at SHIZUKA new york. I had same service at different salons before and I did not see much results. But this time at SHIZUKA new york was different, my skin became really smooth and radiant. And also, staff are extremely nice and professional.

I am from Tokyo, Japan and have been in many of the wellknown Japanese Aesthetic Salons in Tokyo. Suprisingly, I was able to get the same facial massage and hospitalities here in the U.S. at SHIZUKA new york. The staff are all Japanese and highly trained. I had an eyelash perm as well as a facial. The salon uses special perms from Japan which do not damage eyelashes. Their Pearl Mask was cool. What a wonderful experience! I will definately be a regular.

It was my first visit this past weekend and it was the best facial I ever received! I had the micro facial and it came with a foot and hand massage as well. It was amazing! Yoshika really cleansed my skin and gave an amazing massage and I didn't leave with any red marks on my face! And most importantly, I was not pressured to buy any products or add ons at all. I will definitely be going back.

I went to Shizuka New York in the hopes of finding a few moments of relaxation. After an incredible facial and unbelievable massage I could not have been happier or more relaxed. The staff is experienced and very good at what they do and I couldn't have asked for a better value. I will definitely be returning for a needed break in a very hectic lifestyle.

For years the hair on my back bothered me so much. Waxing was a real nusiance and it hurt. At Shizuka NY I had the hair my back removed once and for all with their "intense pulsed light hair removal treatment" and now I feel comfortable at the gym. The whole experience was relaxing and friendly. I have told all my frinds.
