My sister and brother-in-law took me here for dinner with her son, daughter-in-law and the two grandchildren, they loved the service including me, not too pushy. I ordered the pork chops, and the kids whatever they ordered said it was the best. Their menu will please any fussy eater which was me and the grandkids. And their desserts are to die for - make sure to leave some room for those yummy desserts.
Once you try it, you'll want to go back to Magnolia's like me and I Can't wait they have so many things on their menu I want to try out, besides their marvelous desserts.

After walking by this place for several years, not quite sure of what it was, my mom (ever adventurous) persuaded me to stop in here for brunch. The eggs benedict were very good, actually, and the ambience was pleasant. I would come back.

We went out for my girlfriend's birthday. The place was half-full, but the service was pretty slow. It may have been because the game one of the ALDS was on, but there was no music in the place. We were seated near the bar and there were two middle aged guys there talking loudly about what was wrong with social security and how lawyers were to blame for all society's ills. My girlfriend and I are lawyers. That's just a funny coincidence, but there should have been some music on. The food was expensive for the quality. My hanger steak was tough, even for that cut, even though I ordered it medium rare. The cake served with homemade coffee ice cream, which has to be ordered with your meal, was superb. That cake alone was worth going to this place, but have dinner somewhere else.

I used this restaurant for an event. I've always been meaning to try them because they have a nice looking exterior and have been around for a while, but just never did. Some people I know have been there and said it was good (not rave reivews I guess). Anyway, I used them for this event because, well, they were available and my first choices were not, and figured, I'm sure it will be good enough. I was so extremely disappointed I can't even get over it. And this isn't a new thing for me, I've done tons of large family and friends events over the years and have been pleased every time at other neighborhood restaurants -- this is the first time I've felt like this about a place -- these guys were BAD! Maybe they were once good and now are slipping and that explains why I hadn't heard they were so bad before, but I wouldn't recommend them in a million years and would say "stay far away".

Pros: attractive enough

Cons: rude, overpriced for average food and awful service

.

It wasn't horrible but not great. Service was bad, the waiter spent most of the time chatting up the bartender or reading the newspaper. There was supposed to be a complimentary kids' meal on Sundays but apparently both adults had to order a full entree (not a sandwich or pizza) in order to get this (mind you this was not written anywhere). Fine. In the meantime, it took them 45 minutes to serve our daughter's pizza....not sure why since it was no big deal. My husband' $13 burger was worse than you could get at most diners. There are far better places in this neighborhood. We won't be returning.

This restaurant almost makes you think you've left New York. Tried dinner on a Friday night around 9:00pm, and got the impression that my fellow diners had all been there many times before. It has a real neigborhood-y feeling, with food that tastes like it was made by your grandma--the one who's a really awesome cook. The wine list is humble, but the selections are solid. The portions are large, so bring an appetite (we ordered an appetizer and regretted it once our ginormous entres arrived at the table). All in all, great food, in an understated atmosphere (i.e. not so hip). If you want to have dinner and be able to hear yourself speak, this is a great place to go. I highly recommend the ribs.

For our weekly 'date nite' (so cheesey, but it works people) I took my man to Magnolia. We arrived before the dinner rush, got a great table by the window. Beautiful rich color scheme, fantastic ambiance...
The beef wellington app was just different enough from any other Wellington I have had that I enjoyed the chef's take on it. The smashed potatoes were divine. The bartender made great drinks consistently throughout our nite. 2nd course we had salads, and both of us enjoyed the simple mixed greens. FANTASTIC dressing (HUGE PORTION...if having multiple courses I suggest splitting the greens...but then how tacky is that?) For my entree I had a chicken, mushroom and spinach w/ shaved parmesan risotto. the chicken was tender, juicy. the flavors were incredible, but I thought the rice was undercooked. It was a special for the evening, so proceed w/ caution (risotto is tricky, tho. A for effort). My boyfriend enjoyed the fried calamari app (big fan of the dill dipping sauce).
I am a veteran of the food-service industry, so I am quite particular about service. Our server was wonderful. A little lacking in the enthusiasm portion, (esp. compared to the other server on the floor that nite, who I overheard at the table behind us, talking about the menu, explaining ingredients, etc) but he was attentive and very respectful of our dining experience. The bussing staff was quick w/ the water and plate clearing, but not in an intrusive or obnoxious way.
Hard to tell we LOVED the place? well, we did, and chris and i will definately be returning!

Live Music every Friday with no cover.
Nice Romantic atmosphere - Friendly Service - Tasty Dishes.
Magnolia Salad is my favorite and the mini burgers are great.
My wife loves the Wedge Salad w/the shrimp.
You got to try the Apple/Blueberry Dumplings and Egg Cream for dessert.
Sunday Brunch is very reasonable and the Johnny's Bloody Marys are the best.
Brian can pour a mean Guinness - nice Tap Beer selection.
If your looking for a nice romantic restaurant give this a try, you won't be disappointed.

finally made it to Magnolia, enjoyed their outdoor seating on this quiet corner. attentive service, romantic vibe, were more impressed with the food than we anticipated after reading some of these posts.
it's a welcoming, friendly place, with solid food and nice beer selection. we live close by and somehow never managed to try it. Glad we did now.

Wow. Woe.
Talk about declines. New chef, tired already tried burnt out menu. Same deliberate service.
The asparagus dish is so 80's and was done here 5 yrs. ago minus the "premium bacon" (what is that?Boar's Head deluxe?), but worse. Ditto the mussels, ow. It takes more finesse than this to cook PEI mussels that turn out chewy and under/over seasoned depending upon the day. Beets, beat it, bland. Chefs need to know how to peel and cook beets so that they taste good.Chicken quasi marsala? Why bother? The tasteless risotto makes no sense, shiitakes add to the quagmire. Veggie burger? Is this out of the box? BJ burger? I have no stomach for something so inappropriately misnamed. Often over/undercooked. Oreganata, scampi? which is it? Greasy and gross. Shrimp taste of refrigerator. Chocolate fondue... Jaques Torres? Really? Is he seeing this? Nice idea but a disaster.
I recommend this restaurant only for immediate locals. The bar staff is great and accomodating, if not boorish to non-locals at times. Skip table service altogether. Too tip motivated. Now that I mention it, this is a wonderful place if you sit at the bar and eat, and the bartender likes you.

This place is horrid. The food is sub-par, the service is completely unprofessional and it is way too expensive. There are a hundred awesome restaurants in the Slope, so don't waste your evening here. I tried the price fix and te waiter looked offended when I requested the price fix menu. Moreover, food was a complete disappointment. It had no flavor, was poorly prepared and lacked any culinary vision. I tried the place again for the Monday night pizza and pint special and it was even worse. You had to sit at the bar for the special where the Bar tender did his best to ignore all clientel he had not previously met. The pizza was THE WORST I HAVE EVER HAD. It was a matzo cracker with cheese and sauce. It was so bad that it was offensive. Never go here.

Neighbourhood's little secret on 6th Ave. may be somtimes overlooked, but for those who haven't dined yet at Magnolia ,one word , run! The place has such delicious food you have to try it yourself to categorize it(they dry age their steaks on premises),the space is very cozy and filled witha warm glow, good service and value while still getting quality, they even have live music, and in a warm weather tables out front, once you sit down you'll never want to leave. This is where I go to relax and unwinde, even when they are packed on weekends the atmospher is less hectic than in most of the restaurants I have been to. Another plus -you could come with anyone, young or old, shy,or fun loving, the staff is friendly and accomodating.I could go on but I couldn't say enough. Do something nice for yourself, go to Magnolia.

Magnolia offers a three-course, $20 prix fixe dinner menu (everyday, I think, but it may be weekdays only). As one might expect, the fixed price menu is limited to chicken- and salmon-like dishes, so if you want something more special you'll have to pay a little more. But the restaurant, like the neighborhood, has a very comfortable feel, and the outdoor seating is a nice bonus. The portions are probably a little smaller than average, but they are perfectly adequate, and probably reflect the restaurant's emphasis on quality, not quantity.

The food in this place is as good as I've ever had in far more expensive restaurants. How do they do it? It's true that the service is a little spotty, but the overall ambiance is attractive and relaxing, and who cares about anything else after such a wonderful meal.

We went to Magnolia soon after moving to Brooklyn b/c it looked like it could be great. It failed at every level. We were kept waiting for a table for an hour even though there were always one or two empty. After being seated, we waited over 15 minutes to order our drinks. Dinner was unremarkable, the wine list was weak and the service was unattentive and slow. We ordered the recommended dessert ahead of time as they suggested but when it came time for it, the waiter had "forgotten" it. It's just too bad that the guy behind me who did not order it, but requested it after dinner, get it about the same time. For some reason, these guys are trying to impress all the wrong people.

What can I say about Magnolia - They are the best. Emanuele was the best waiter we have ever had anywhere, he was attententive and very pleasant. The bartender Biloxy Johnny makes the best to die for Mango Martini's on the planet. The garlic mashed potatoes that came with my New Orleans chicken melted in my mouth. The salad was great, the appetizer wings were also great. I cant say enough good things about this place. The owner and the bartender comes to your table to ask how things are (unless they are extremely packed). Overall the best food, service, and drinks ever. The total package. I dine out at least four times per week, and honestly this is the only restaurant where I get good food good service and great drink and a wonderful atmosphere.

Last night I had the most amazing meal at Magnolia. The spice rubbed grilled scallop appetizer with avocado, arugula and tomato. Plus a Prime Rib steak that melts in your mouth. This place has become one of my favorite restaurants. There are not many places that you can have a great meal accompanied by amazing jazz on a Friday or Saturday night. This place has so much to offer Park Slope. I feel comfortable going in by my self and hanging at the bar. The bartender is a true professional and makes the best bloody mary I have ever had. MUST TRY THIS PLACE

Magnolia is situated on a quiet residential street and it has "neighborhood find" written all over it. It almost lives up to its potential. Great ambiance -- and after three visits -- the food improves each time we dine. The specials are more adventerous than what you'll find on the menu too.

Magnolia's such a terrific space that you really want the food to match the decor and vibe in quality. Unfortunately, food was slow to be served and not worth the wait - uninspired salads and confoundingly tasteless pork chops. What a shame.
