In Short
There's no shortage of Mediterranean restaurants in New York, but neighborhood restaurant owner Turgut Balikci's newest endeavor takes traditional dining to another level. Architect Richard Bloch--who also designed Masa--resists the urge to go overboard on traditional decorations, opting instead for Mediterranean touches like sea-blue tiling and a wood-burning oven. Put-together uptowners snack on mezze like baba ghanoush and hummus, while entree selections include fish tagine and Adana kebabs. Baklava provides a sweet close to any meal.

Great for Dinner!

by mereditheats

I took a group of girls here on friday to celebrate the holidays and we had such a good time that i wanted to write a review. The place is really cute and comfortable and warm! We even got these warm wine drinks compliments of the owner which was totally weird (warm wine?) but really really good! We decided to order a few pizzas, kebobs, and the mezzes and share everything. The food was superb, the wait staff were super friendly and knowledable about the food, and we basically had just a super fun time. Def will be back!!

Pros: Food, Service, PIZZA!

One of the best meals I've had in New York.

Went to dinner with my boss and two clients from Japan and the whole dining experience was impeccable...everything from the food to the service.

My table manners and etiquette shined that night.

Simply classy, graceful and almost perfect.

This is my absolute favorite place in the city and my go-to spot when I have visitors in town. Also, this is great place to go with a group because you can try a bunch of different small plates.

Perfect birthday dinner

by Sarie86

Picked this restaurant based on the positive Citysearch reviews for my father's birthday. We had a party of six and we were comfortably accommodated at one of the banquettes. We shared dolmas, celery root, and salads for the apps and had a variety of fish and lamb dishes for the main course. STANDOUTS: branzini, fish tagine, dolmas, organic salad. Restaurant is beautiful and the service is attentive and friendly! The hostess was charming and even though were were a mixed group of ages, we all agreed we loved the place. Also, delicious baklava! My husband said his Turkish coffee was delicious, they ask you how sweet you want it.

Pros: great setting, good food, good service

Cons: music was too loud at first

FANTASTIC Turkish food

by UWSlifer

Great addition to the Upper West. My wife and I haven't had manti this good since our trip to Istanbul last year. Try the mezze platter to get a taste of everything. I can also highly recommended the Adana kabob -- the red meat goes perfectly with the cool yogurt sauce. The baklava is also top quality. I'm a foodie, if you can't tell, and Bodrum is a top tier restaurant on my list. It's been there a year now and they just keep getting better.

Pros: food, nice sidewalk cafe

Cons: only about 30 wines by the bottle

I decided to have my birthday party at Bodrum after I read the reviews. We had a great time and the food was amazing. Their sample plate of mezze, and the Branzini spacial was so good, I was craving for more the next day. Im so happy to have this place on the upper west side.

WE LOVE THIS PLACE!!

by AlonaAndDave

Great food, great service! We ate in the sidewalk cafe on a Saturday night, just ordered some appetizers to try it out. We got the sheperd salad and the sampling platter and ate every last bite! After we licked the plate clean we ordered another appetizer, the manti lamb dumplings, and it was just as delicious. Our waitress recommended we come back to try the desserts, and we did the next night! The baklava is flaky and perfectly sweetened... we will be back often! Highly recommended!

Pros: food, service, ambience

Cons: big, loud group right next to us

Turkish Delight!!

by lpayton22

Amazing Turkish food. The atmosphere is simple but authentic, makes you feel like you are welcomed. Delicious platters of all the traditional spreads; babahganush, manti, hummus, shephard salad, etc. accompanied by their delicous home-made bread is perfect for sharing. The wood-oven roasted chicken and grilled swordfish kebab are so tender and flavorful, served with a refreshing vegetable salad and rice. After lunch/dinner you must end the meal with a traditonal turkish coffee and a piece of their phenomenal baklava (made with pistachios).

Pros: Outdoor area

The best authentic Turkish cuisine on the Upper West Side

by peterstamelman

Bodrum is indisputably the best, most authentic Turkish restaurant on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Arguably one of the best Turkish restaurants in the entire city. The staff are very warm and welcoming and the ambiance is pleasantly low-key. Not only are the Turkish dishes excellent, the pizzas are out-of-this-world. In addition, the prices are reasonable and the service is unfailingly cordial. There is also take-out service. Finally there is no more hard-working, dedicated restaurant owner in New York: Hussein is almost always there every day and his presence assures that the diner will always have a friendly welcome and an exceptional meal.

Great Pizza!

by kristinuws

I went to Bodrum last night with few of my friends. I loved the bread and the pizza. I couldn't stop eating the bread. As an appetizer we ordered couple meze sampling plate which is perfect to share. The best thing on the sampling plate was the yogurt and the walnut mixture. For main course I shared a pizza special, which was one of the best pizzas i had lately. The crust was very crispy and as a topping they had the Shepard salad with feta. I wished they had a bar so i could just go by myself.

Pros: good food, outdoor seating, good ambience

Cons: no bar

Best Mediterranean Restaurant around!

by KellyMidland

I have been to Bodrum a few times for dinner and I can?t say enough about the tasty food and it?s intimate atmosphere. As soon as you walk in, a wood-burning oven sets the mood for this Upper West Side gem. The restaurant staff is attentive and courteous, but not over-bearing. The mezze is outstanding-the sampler is a must. My favorites are the hummus and the crispy calamari. I usually do not care for fried calamari but the combination of the calamari and the aioli sauce makes it a great dish.

For entrees I have tried the grilled swordfish and the adana kebab-both were flavored well. I also tried the pizza, which has a thin crust that is absolutely amazing. Best bet is to order several of the dishes to share since everything is so delicious!!

Pros: Food and the Atmosphere

Cons: None!

Wood Burning oven

by WhiteMaggie

I recently went to Bodrum restaurant with my girlfriend. We loved the concept of having a wood-burning oven in a Turkish restaurant. I guess that?s the reason it is called Turkish-Mediterranean Restaurant. We shared a sampling plate of tapas as an appetizer, which was one of the best I had in the city (just stay away from the Harrissa sauce extremely spicy.) As a main course we had the grilled eggplant pizza to share with nice bottle of monteppulciano. I also saw they cook some of the other dishes in the oven. Im sure anything coming out of that oven taste great. Cant wait to go back, to try some of their other dishes.

Pros: Everything!

Cons: N/A

Simply NOT Mediterranean food and WAY TO OVER PRICED!!!!

by Inezeb

I love medi food. I was so happy to see a restaurant like this in the UWS. But the service was bad. the hummus was not all that. I ordered the lamb kebab and the meat was too spicy. worst of all the yellow rice was NOT the typical turkish/mediterrnean style yellow rice. it was regular rice (small portion at that) which looked like it should be served at a mexican restaurant. There was no salt and pepper on the table! The food was not that tasty sorry....

Pros: Nice Decor

Cons: too pricey for what you get

Best!

by CatMarJen

nice, romantic decor. it was not too busy, which made it easy to carry on a conversation. it smelled wonderful when i walked in, i was told that the mezze sampling plate was a must, so my husband and i decided to share one and it was fantastic. it only came with one b'stila djej (fillo stuffed with spiced chicken) and that made me sad, because it was so freakin delicious! everything on the sampling plate was very, very good. we also shared the adana kebab (ground lamb) and it was also very tasty.

we will come here once a week now and definitely share the mezze sampling plate again (with an extra order of b'stila djej) and maybe try another entree. we loved it!

Pros: Everything!

Cons: N/A

Just what we needed!

by nutmeg30

This is just the kind of place we needed on the UWS! I go early with the kids (great pizza for them, mezze and fish for me) or with my husband and friends for an absolutely great night out for dinner. The food is really good and there is something for everyone. Love the atmosphere inside and outside. A new favorite!

Pros: Wood burning oven, Mezze, Bread

Cons: Wish there were 2!

Lovely place to have a relaxing and tasty meal. I am turkish and have dined in most of the turkish restaurants in the city, and this one is one of the best! Authentic food, great service, friendly people. It does not look like the city of Bodrum, but after the first bite, who's complaining? My husband and I plan to go back..

Pros: Food, service, overall ambience

I have been going to Bodrum for the past two months at least once week with my friends. Best pizza ever. They have the real wood-burning brick oven which makes amazing thin crust pizza. My favorite pizza is the fennel and marques sausage pizza. Great wine list too. Not too confusing with good selections of wine. And very friendly service i feel welcomed every single time.

Pros: Ambience, Friendly Service, Pizza

Cons: No Reservation taken, red wines a little warm

GREAT

by lilyflower326

I am always looking for new restaurants to pop up on here so that i can finally go somewhere else (no offense favorite restaurants) came to Bodrum with somewat mixed expectations because i am kind of a picky eater. I tried the tapas dish or meeze. I have to say that while i didn't know exactly what i was eating, it was great! And it turns out that the tapas dish is practically totally vegetarian and while stuff in grape leaves feels weird to me, it was so good that i have become a believer! The atmosphere was relaxed and i didn't have to rush or anything. We also had some of the kebbos, (those i know duh) and they were TERRIFIC! All in all a great new restaurant to add to my repertoire. i will definitely be back.

Pros: Food, atmosphere, outdoor cafe

Cons: far away from my office!
