I first found Keysboat.com online before my first trip to the keys. I knew i wanted to rent a boat to do some fishing and just have fun on the water, however I had no idea how helpful the owner of Keysboat.com would be. His name is Joe and after talking a short time with him i knew we were in for a great time. Not only did he give us great prices on boat rentals but he even showed us on a map where to fish for certain types of fish and showed us an AWESOME lobstering spot. As a matter of fact he was even able to help us out with a place to stay. That was in 2011. I've come back every year since to do business with him and i am always blown away by the quality service he provides. I can not say enough about how dedicated he is to helping people make the most of their trip to the keys. All around Great!

First boat caught fire second boat had transmission trouble. Do not rent from this place. They rented us a boat that caught fire which required a fire extinquisher then charged us for the boat rental.

Cons: boat caught fire

.

I visited the Keys recently with a group of friends . We rented a boat from Keys Boat rental to use for three days. Things went awry almost immediately. When we arrived, the boat we had initially rented was under repair. No problem, Joe, the proprietor says. He'd give us another slightly larger boat for the same price. The slightly larger boat had no working dials or radio, but otherwise appeared shipshape, so off we went.

After being out for just a few hours the next morning at Loo Key, a passenger pressed the horn, and a smoke began to billow out of the console. Fearing the worst, we sprayed the console with the fire extinguisher and opened the it up to determine that some plastic on one of the wire bundles had caught on fire. Because the wire seemed to be associated with only one of the batteries for one of the engines, we idled back to the harbor on the other engine (which took about an hour and a half) and returned the boat to Joe. After a couple hours of waiting around, Joe finally gives us another similar boat.

The next day, while out in our second boat, one of the engines stopped engaging the gears. Once again we had to run on only one engine, except this time it was getting dark so we had to leave the boat at Dolphin Marina nearby, and catch a ride back to our place from a friend. It was here that we decided to terminate our relationship with Joe.

The next morning, with thinly veiled indignation and little apology, Joe still charged us two full days (apparently a day where 4-plus hours is spent exchanging one broken boat for another is a "full day" in Joe's book). Since we're not local, and fighting just isn't an option, we pay and leave.

We rented from Dolphin Marina the next day, and the contrast in customer service and boat quality was huge. The boat was great, and even when we had a problem with the prop, Dolphin was extremely apologetic and even cut us a deal on the boat.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!

Pros: non

Cons: crappy customer service and boats, not particularly competitive with better places
