Similar issues to other reviews posted. Going on 13 months since we signed contract back at the end of August 2012. Summer has now come and gone and we are sitting with an unfinished pool with issues that have never should have occurred had the work been done correctly in the first place. There is NO reason for these delays other then poor workmanship. We paid Skyler Pools in full over 8 weeks ago.
We too discovered they buried some of the excavation materials around the pool shell before they payed the sand and pavers. However, We learned that in our case that we don't need a backfill inspection because our pool is far enough from the home. But that doesn't mean these buried materials won't shift overtime and cause problems down the road.
As for now, here are our outstanding issues. The deck was installed with a lower quality travertine which has many visible imperfections.
It has many holes, fractures, cracks , and dozens were installed with cracked missing corners. There is a large unfilled gap between the coping travertine and the deck pavers. It looks bad and unfinished. The worst is that it isn't pitched properly, so when it rains water collects and pools outside our home. Three times they sent someone to make repairs , they replaced a few pavers, but not enough to make a difference and so far the owner Bruce Davis refuses to address that its improperly pitched. When you visit the showroom they show you nice looking higher quality travertine so you purchase the upgrade and then they buy and install the low quality pavers. We feel totally
Misrepresented. Had we known they would look like this we never would have paid for this upgrade.
The pool surface was also poorly done. It was the blotchiest roughest finish we've ever seen! Living in Florida I don't have to tell you how many pools we've seen and examined. We've never seen anything like it. We chose glass mosaic tiles to cap the steps and they installed them crooked and there are numerous ones that are broken revealing sharp edges. We were told to brush our pool 2x / day and that the surface texture and appearance would improve. It didn't. The clearer the water became, the more imperfections we noticed. Missed spots of plaster and many lumpy unsmoothed areas.
The first day we used the pool within minutes the kids had skin abrasions on their feet. Finally , after submitting photos of the feet, they admitted that the work was not up to standard and they would resurface it. Really??? Shouldn't there have been a foreman / supervisor there to inspect the work as it was being done? Well, we were told there would always be a foreman or the owner himself present when work was being done , but there wasn't. The workers would show up, do their thing and leave. No one there to check quality or we wouldn't be in this predicament.
So now they want the same guys who messed up the first finish to fix it by layering a second coat of plaster over the first! We consulted other pool professionals and were informed that this would now considered a resurfaced pool and not a " new" pool. We were also told a replaster wouldn't likely be as good as the first plaster. We are terrified to have this same team fix this because if they were professionals then it would have come out right the first time! We are now asking them to chip out the entire first layer, remove all the cap tiles and start on the original gunite surface w/ preferably a different crew of workers who are experienced at properly applying the finish so it looks and feels smooth. We are waiting for a response.
We have been very patient throughout this process, but now we are stressed, frustrated, and very concerned. We regret having to place negative reviews, so we will update this review if and when our issues are resolved.

Buyer Beware! Major disappointment! We have similar experiences as the other reviews listed here. We were assured that they would have our pool finished in approximately 12-16 weeks. we are now over a Year, and the summer has now come

I entered into a contract with Skyler pools to build a in ground pool on 5/14/12. I was told that they were a small company that builds about 30 pools a year and that the owner is on every job site everyday to supervise the work being done. All this information is also repeated on the front page of their website. I checked out all their info and it seemed I made a good choice.

Construction finally started on my pool but I never saw the owner but figured he had a foreman supervising the job. There was no foreman or anyone supervising anything from day one. Also the owner visited my house 3 times total throughout the whole project. That is where the problems began. Time after time I had to contact the company because issues we coming up and I had to point them out. When my deck area was being prepped and filled in it was not done properly. Instead of it being filled in a little at a time, watered down and compacted. It was completely filled as fast as possible while also burying very large rocks along the edge of the pool shell. It was then watered and the skid steer driven over it and that was all the compaction it recieved. I noticed that the permit needed a backfill certification prior to putting the deck down and I notified Deanna who was my contact at the time at Skyler pools. She asked me to scan it and send it over to her so she could get it taken care of. I did what she asked. Several days later my deck went in.

Finally in November my pool was completed but there were several issues that needed to be addressed. The company asked for final payment and said all issues would be addressed, so I made final payment to fufill my side of the contract.

Upon filling of my pool I noticed my pool was crooked. After blaming it on the tile guy and going back and forth with me we came to an agreement to make up for the issue with the pool. The agreement was never fully satisfied due to the fact the grass in the front of my house was not replaced and the sealing job done on the pavers in the back was substandard with most of my sand already washing away.

Now to the final issue , Skyler pools called in for final inspection but to my suprise it failed.

The reason it failed , they never had a backfill inspection done even though I notified them of this issue. Whats worse It has only been a few months and my pavers are already settleing.

Also now I have to have a portion of my deck pulled up for them to do the certification that I know will fail due to the compaction not being done properly.

This was a last resort, I have almost 100 emails back and forth that last saying this was their #1 priority and would be addressed last Friday. It is now Tuesday evening and as usual nothing has been done.

What makes matters even worse is that through this entire process the owner of the company has called 1 time to speak with me and prefered to handle this through email and when I asked why he was not on the job everyday or at least regularly to check he said it was impossible he had 20 pools currently under construction.

It is very obvious that after making the final payment to this company my job took a backburner to all the jobs they were still waiting to get paid on.

Skyler Pools!!! What a nightmare!!! They promise to build a small pool on my backyard in 2 to 3 months, we signed the contract on March 15, 2012 so we could have a pool for that summer. The excavation took place 4 months after the signed contract. We decide to get an advice from the attorneys since they start a neglect job by busting our main sewer line with survey in hands and city marks on the floor where that big pipe was located and to make matters worse they told us that this was our problem, attorney told us to pay them on time and let them try to finish otherwise we going to have a hole for at least another year plus no sewer line, I knew by that where this was going, after zillions of problems they fill out this pool on November 2012, yes, 8 months after we signed this contract and we still have dirt, pavers sinking and slope to the house, pavers that don??t match our existing pavers as per our contract, we paid them 6k more than our lowest bid guy to have this build for that summer and they cost us around 4k extra just to keep up with the damages and hiding fees throughout the process that is not written in the contract and was never disclosure to us at the signing date, they busted 4 sections of fences, city sidewalk, sprinklers and 200 SQ of my existing pavers with heavy machinery. We spend 20 days taking our daughter to a market to use bathrooms. City sent them a violation notice to get back and fix the pavers problems within 15 dates and it has been over 2 months so far and nothing. We have pending permits and the only thing as far as costumer service that we get is ??that is not my problem? or either they hung up the phone on us. The worst company that I ever dealt with it. We paid them every single penny on time to show good faith and now we are hanging here in the winter with more expensive maintenances bills and problems to get fixed hopefully prior to this coming summer.
