$15,000 and still going. We have a Golden Retriever that we bought from there three years ago with Lymphangectasia and now tumors on her bottom. Her medication alone is now $200.00 a month and we are thinking about sueing. They did give us our money back from buying her but that was $600.00 and the vet bills are going up weekly to surpass $15,000. We love our sweet Golden but hate the fact that this pet store contributes to birthing unhealthy dogs with short lives and multiple problems! Please help the cause by not buying a dog from this puppy mill pet shop! It has to stop! Dogs are suffering! People are going Bankrupt and hearts are broken when animals die so soon. :(

My pup too had kennel cough and needed knee surgery at 1 year of age $1800.00. They said the pup was fine. Anyway I could have returned her knowing full well they would have euthanized her. So I ended fixing her one knee and probably
will have to do the other. I could not find a thing on her supposed good breeder. No dog should cost 1000.00 and be ill. Someone is getting rich!

Do not buy you dog from Puppies N Things. I have a cocker just turned 1 year and she had a bone defect that will have to have surgery. It's hereditary. My vet(not theirs) looked at where the dog was born ( southern Missouri) and said our dog came from a puppy mill. We called the store last Friday 9/17/10 and still have not heard anything. I'm ready to stand out front and show the people walking in the xrays and vet bills I already have. It's very sad.

I bought a cocker in Nov 2009. She 9 months old and the dogs is now on 2 medications she will have to take for LIFE because of joint problems. Yes, that is what THEIR vet Briarcliff, said. They still want to take xrays($300), but her clicking joints will hopefully not get worse. These people know where the dogs come from so they also lie about it. This is the only dog we ever bought from a puppy store. The only dog we ever had issues with. The owner of Puppie n Things should be ashamed, but I guess money is more important

Just want to give some feedback about this store! I shop here on a regular basis for toys for my pet, they have great quality products. The girl who works up front is really friendly and nice!! I try to avoid the pet room because I??ll end up buying one!

I recently bought a puppy from this store. she??s only 6 months old, but this is the best pet I??ve ever owned, I would recommend this store to anyone. the puppies aren??t kept in small cages behind glass, they are in large cages with comfortable bedding, other puppies to play with, and are all extremely well socialized. the employee??s there are very pleasant. the girl who helped me was only probably 17 or 18 years old, but was EXTREMELY knowledgeable. we??re thinking about getting another puppy as a friend for Daisy and I know where we??ll be going.

I bought a dog two months ago for a Christmas present to myself. I was searching pet stores around Jacksonville and after visits to about five pet stores in the area I chose Puppies N Things. It was clean, odor free and the puppies looked well groomed and really happy! There were quite a few people in the store due to Christmas shopping, but I was helped right away with questions. After playing with "Duke" for about an hour, I decided to buy him! I was given two guarantees and a free Vet visit. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for a pet! Thank You!

I have been a regular customer here since before the store started grooming. My 3 baby girls LOVE the cookies, and I love to look at the puppies. Although most of the staff knows me and knows that I am just there to buy cookies and look at the puppies, I am always treated very politely and greeted warmly every time I enter the store. I am even happier now that they groom!! My babies look even more like little princesses! I am a picky customer, but my directions are always followed and I am never made to feel bad for being picky. I can also say, as a grooming customer, I have seen the "back room" that the obviously disgruntled ex-employee spoke about... All I can do is state the obvious: sometimes puppies get sick, get colds, etc, especially when they travel and are handled by many different people. There has to be a place to keep them until they are well. I have seen nothing bad in the "back room." I have even been a walk-in and popped up unexpectedly, only to find the "back room" puppies (there were only 2) were out playing very happily while an employee was washing dishes and supervising them... Please take my advice when I say to go visit the store and form your own opinion from your own experience. Puppies N Things is AWESOME!!

I have two puppies from this store. Before I got the first one, I asked where the puppies came from. The employee told me that they get them from breeders and the owner goes around and checks the breeder out and won't buy a dog from a breeder if they don't approve of the environment, breeder, etc.

They must have really low standards. Luckily, they give you the name of the breeder your puppy came from. With my first, I did research but didn't find anything at all on her. But that was before I found out about breeders being licensed through the USDA and that their inspections are posted online. And yes, these dogs are being considered livestock. With my second puppy, I looked at the breeder's inspections. I found that there are over 209 dogs on the premises, the food is contaminated, the dogs are outside without bedding in 30 degree weather, fecal matter has been compacted into the floor, and there isn't even the minimum standard of 6 inches above their head where the primary ceiling is. How on Earth can a breeder take care of over 200 dogs properly? They CAN"T!

This IS a puppy mill. Don't believe me? My Aussie came from Melanie and Mike Moore of Lamar, MO. I strongly suggest you research the "breeder" your puppy came from. A bad, irresponsible breeder is all a puppy mill really is. I am literally sick to my stomach knowing I supported them, foolishly believing what they told me.

I have not purchased a pet from them but I will say they are clean! The puppies didn't seem to show any signs of sickness (diarrhea, sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge, demodectic mange) when I have visited the store on two occasions. Many pet stores have multiple dogs in small cages (they are in pens here). Many dogs will sit in excrement and most petstore employees don't care. While I don't recommend buying a pet at a pet store(you know where they come from)- there is a need for pet-stores because of crazy rescue groups and "breeders". I know it may be bad to recommend this- if you have tried rescues and breeders but they deem you "unsuitable" to own a dog because of their wackiness, I would say give this pet store a try.

I recommend this store to all my friends, now I??ll recommend it to all of you! I started stopping in this store when it first opened several years ago and come in at least twice a month. I??ve bought two dogs from them now and love them both. It??s the cleanest pet store in Jacksonville and they have the best quality puppies. That??s about it. I don??t think it??s that different from most pet stores, but its definitely a little better.

I recently moved here from Ohio and was looking for a puppy. I had gone to every puppy store in Jacksonville and finally found Puppies N Things. I was so amazed to see how clean, bright and nice the store was. All the other pet stores I've been too were smelly, dark and depressing. I ended up buying a Yorkie- Maltese mix, she is the cutest thing ever! She was at a great price and she aslo came with two guarantees. They also had a great deal on products too! I can say I'm completely satasifed with the whole experience and would reccomend this store to anyone.

I am sorry that you are so closed minded. I know not every breeder has a good rap, but plenty of them do. I think you should do more research before you say that Puppies N Things buys from Puppy Mills. I have 4 dogs, 3 of which I had purchased from this store in the last 2 years. I had the normal kennel cough with one of them which was covered by the guarantee and the other two never had any issues. I have spoke with the breeders of both of the dogs. 2 share the same breeder and one parent. The breeder answered all of my questions and from time to time I send her photos. The employees are very nice and the store is clean every time I go in to visit and show pictures of my extended family(puppies). If you were not satisfied with your puppy and the store then you should have returned the puppy instead of complaining about it. You can find a bad breeder anywhere or at any pet store if you look hard enough. I would recommend this store to anyone. All you have to do is look at my healthy, vibrant puppies! If you're going to make an accusation like this do your research first. This is 1 breeder!!!!!!!Like you said that employee is gone!!!!

2 words: Steve Kruse

Google that name and you'll be horrified with the results. Puppies N Things buys many dogs from this snake.

NO REPUTABLE BREEDER WOULD SELL THEIR PUPPIES TO A PET STORE/BROKER.

Went there today to get a lab puppy (they had two that I liked) brought my sister with me to help me decide which one to buy. We walked into the area where the dogs are and pretty much right away got kicked out because my sister is not 18 (she is 13 but looks very mature).. The girl that was working there was extremely rude and said that in order for both of us to be there we need to come with our parents... At the same time I am a mature adult and it was a shame to be treated that way by this uneducated worker. She looked at my sister as if she was a 2 year old who would drop a puppy. Meanwhile there were actually mothers there with their YOUNG children who were picking up dogs left and right (while the mothers had a chat of their own) WITHOUT USING HAND SANITIZER while switching puppys in different pins (the worker should pay attention to THAT).
Way to lose a customer who was going to spend over $1,000 CASH (with all the puppy toys and extras). Legally thinking about this it needs to be taken up with Management and that worker has to be taken care of. I was there today April 15, 2009 around 2pm. Like I said Puppies N Things are getting rid of customers like it's nothing for anyone who is familiar with business would know that one of the main rules is PLEASING THE CUSTOMER.
P.S. This worker is such a bad representative of this company that I will not ever have anything good to say about them.

I recently purchased a puppy from Puppies N Things. I specifically asked the sales girl were they get their puppies from and that I wanted to be sure it was not from a puppy mill. She GUARENTEED me that they research their breeders and do not use anyone that is associated with a puppy mill or over-breeds their dogs. I trusted that she was honest about the history of the puppies. After researching my dog??s bloodline today. I found my dog came from breeder Steve Kruse. Possibly the WORST and most notorious puppy mill out there. I am frightened for my puppy??s future. She has already been sick and I dread the potential cost associated with her possible health disorders. Yes, they say they will give you a refund but come on we all know once you are attached to a dog you can??t just take it back. I will be sure to expose the truth about the breeders they use. DO NOT BUY FROM PUPPIES N THINGS>>> aka? a Puppy Mill Distributor!

In retrospect...I guess I should have known better buying from a puppy store. I thought because the store was not a chain and was a smaller local establishment. But most importantly that I specifically asked were she came from, I would have covered my bases. Research BEFORE you buy. I hope anyone reading this will learn from my mistake.

To the review below, I just want to apologize again for your experience, and assure you that this is the exception to the rule. The puppy was examined by three veterinarians from completely separate clinics before you purchased. I agree with you that it should have been found and we are at a loss for how this could have happened. It is true that open fontanel and luxating patella are hereditary issues passed down through the parent?s line some where. The fact that the puppy had two severe cases of hereditary issues suggests poor breeding to us. We pride ourselves on our low instance of hereditary diagnosis in our dogs. You may be surprised to know that 4.2% of Papillons that are sent to the Orthapedic Foundation for Animals are diagnosed with patellar luxation; animals who are examined for the OFA?s certification are of the highest quality in the country(show dogs, certified breeding dogs, etc). Our instance of patellar luxation for Papillons lower than 1%. This is partly because our breeders are selective and partly because the veterinary examinations usually find disorders before the puppies get to us. Once again we apologize for your experience and hope you will consider buying from us in the future.

I've been in this store many times b/c my daughter loves to go in and look at the puppies. Her 10 yr birthday is coming up this week and I was at the mall and needed to get her a gift. I wasn't intending on leaving with a puppy but they actually had a Papillon, my daughter's fave breed. I spent a lot of money and was told that she had already been examined by a vet before arriving at their store. My daughter named her Sundae and was absolutely in love with her. We took her to the vet that the store partners with to ensure all was well with Sundae. The vet diagnosed her with Kennel Cough and MLP, a congenital disorder that is more common in overly-bred dogs of this size and breed. It will cause her to need surgery on both knees as she grows and possibly more than one surgery. We were told upon purchase of an open fontanel, but the vet was shocked at it's size and shape stating that it may never close up. The MLP was serious and I cannot afford from the onset a ton of vet bills. We are devastated. The store did take her back and I'm waiting for my refund to be deposited back into my account. My daughter will not recover from this for quite some time. This is a common disorder that should have been diagnosed before the puppy made it to the store. The nice lady there said they would never purchase from that breeder again, but....buyer beware of your heart! We wonder now what will happen to poor, poor Sundae. We will miss the little cutie.

i just shopped at this store! it was packed, and the rest of the mall was empty. I didn't buy a dog, just bought supplies but everyone there was helful. it wasn't like any pet store I've ever been to. even if you don't want a puppy, I would recommend going there to play with puppies. it's clean, and the puppies look happy. they have more unique supplies than pet smart or something like that.

The pins were neat, the dogs were clean, the staff was amazing and the prices good. We purchased 2 dogs on the same day and they were so helpful and you could tell that the staff loved what they do. I would purchase all my dogs from them.

Pros: Cleanliness and Staff

Cons: Location

I bought my German Shepherd from Puppies N Things, he is the best. I go in there once a month just to hang out with the staff and the puppies(loiter). Definitely recommend it.

I have been reading a lot about puppies n things, and there has been some really negitive reviews. To set things straight they do not buy puppies from puppy mills, they buy them from breeders that are licensed for at least two years. And one person said the puppies in the back are hooked up to IV'S and to set that straight thats not true there are about 4 puppies back there in a large cage that have the same sickness and they are only back there bc they dont want the other puppies to get sick. I have been to the one in the Avenues mall and i am even considering buying a puppy from there. The workers are very nice i have had two young girls help me out a lot everytime i come in, the only problems i have ever had there is a manger named Lauren she was rude to me and she was also rude to the workers there. Other then that i love this store i visit it everytime i go in there, and every time i am greeted with a friendly smile. I would highly recommened that you buy a puppy from here :).
