Easily one of the oldest and out of date offices I have ever had my teeth worked on. Methods of cleaning and preventive care were outdated 20 years ago. I felt like I could have had abetted experience if I gave my next door neighbor's

When I pick out a specialist, I first consider whether they're convenient to either my home or work. This works very well for me. Any exception I've made to this policy, such as choosing a gynecologist on the recommendation of a general practice doctor I like, has resulted in my having to go way out of my way. My gynecologist is in Mandarin, for instance.

Hirezi Family Dentistry is in a strip shopping center on the corner of Lee Rd and Monument Bv, If I had to, I could walk.

I've been seeing Dr. Nabil Hirezi exclusively for the last 10 or so years; my husband has been seeing him and his wife, Dr. Flor (nee Deshallars) Hirezi. Dr. Hirezi was educated at LSU in Baton Rouge, and must've married a local girl. His dad's people are from Bethlehim; he advertises that Arabic is spoken in his office.

For someone as frenetically busy as he is, he does manage to cover all his bases satisfactorily. His way of filling three stations with clients and jumping from one to the other takes some getting used to, but it works; plus he knows to delegate work to his techs, whom I've never heard him address other than kindly and politely, even when they make a mistake. They all seem to love him.

He's very gentle and takes care to inflict as little pain as possible. If he has to do a root canal or an extraction, he makes sure your face is good and dead. I don't know what all insurance he takes; consult your provider handbook. He's very decent about financing major work, too, and a good thing, too, since I'm paying on two crowns, a bridge and am fixing to get two partials. His office is wonderful about working you in on an emergency basis.

Human interest feature: In addition to being a good dentist, he's a musician. (He sometimes sings at his work; it's never dull in there. He's good (mother was an opera singer) and has cut several CDs which you can buy at the desk. The proceeds go to the Rawand Hirezi Foundation, named after a niece of his who died in a traffic accident.

Pros: Tries to avoid hurting you if possible; his x-ray technology is cutting edge; good about financing

Cons: Tends to be paternalistic about explaining procedures, but is getting better
