First-my family lives in Cape Coral-less then 1/2 hour from Tarpon Lodge, but for Fathers Day we decided on a get away to this supposed lush tropical paradise. Cut to the chase-we had dinner at the restaurant on Father's Day and yes the meal was expensive-$100 for 2 adults, the kids were not hungry but the food was superb. However, we were sweltering with the heat in there and the wait staff seemed bothered to take our order, bring us our meal and hand us our check. We retired to our room and were extremely disappointed. OK, we were not looking for anything sumptuous but they don't even have closets! The bed was quite rickety and we could here our neighbors clearly talking about how much they maxed out their credit cards. There are no phones (no problem) and they are furnished in a no-frills style. The towels are the paper think kind and ice must be gotten at the restaurant bar. The next day, we took a nearby nature trail -don;t bother (that's another story) and went back to use the hotel pool. It was filthy! We asked a gardener when they would be cleaning it and he insisted he did not speak English, Spanish or French-just Polish. He got a waitress outside to translate and she was totally annoyed that we asked about the pool informing us that she will get "Robert". since the pool maintenance guy was on vacation. Hey we're on vacation too! Apparently Robert is the owner and he greeted us as we were packing to leave-he agreed and thought it was a good idea for us to depart since they could not accommodate our pool request! I was shocked at how poorly we were treated. I highly recommend that you do not bother with this place.

Tarpon Lodge is located on one of the best views in Pine Island. It sits on a point of land in the Pine Island Sound. You can arrive by water or by car. There are boat docks and plenty of car parking too. An unusual and lovely meal awaits you. There is such a variety and its fun to go and see what will be served the night you are there. You can dress up or down but believe me, the tables are dressed up. Its a wonderful place for an anniversay or birthday dinner or a romantic dinner for two while you enjoy the spectular sunsets.

PROS: Great food, delightful setting and beautiful sunsets
CONS: The restaurant is a little pricey but worth it.
