Philippe, a contemporary Chinese restaurant, that was started in New York City, is now located in the Gansevoort Hotel. Philippe draws upon his classical culinary training, putting his own spin on traditional Chinese cuisine with results that are modern, flavorful and theatrical. The atmosphere at the restaurant is minimalist and stylish, with a devoted nightly following that makes up a virtual "who's who" of the music, media and film industries. Philippe features an open-air viewable kitchen from the second floor of the restaurant- guests will be able to view the meals being prepared from their tables. The menu offers a selction of main dishes intended for sharing. Creative noodles and dumplings is a signature at Philippe. Philippe has private areas available for your special occassions. Philippe is perfect for an appetizing lunch, or an enchanting evening.
As a freelance writer for several publications in the area, I went to Philippe to see what at the rave was about. Final result: The presentation of my meal was absolutely superb. Kudos to the chef that knew how to use a hint of every fine ingredient to make my taste buds tingle. Shame on you to the server that kept coming to my table every 3.5 minutes to ask if I wanted anything else ... give the client some breathing space and let them chew their meal at least 5 times before coming back ... and to top it off, giving me the bill before I even ordered the dessert. As you can imagine, I skipped the dessert.
Pros: Great design concept and food presentation
Cons: Pricey, Servers too pushy

If you're looking for an upscale, trendy, posh place to eat in miami Philippe is your place. The servers are great with food pairings and there's always an amazing choice of cocktails. My server offered the pearfection and it was insane! a combo of citrus tyku and pear vodka that paired perfectly with my meal!
Pros: upscale and great food pairings
Cons: pricey

I kept hearing from friends to visit Philippe, located at the Gansevoort Hotel so finally I did and I found my new fav restaurant! First of all the place is gorgeous and very sexy with its red, white and black decor. The service was also a PRO, the waiter was very helpful and attentive and gave us some wonderful recommendations. The food was sooo yummy. Loved their chicken satay, filet mignon and their sweet & sour chicken. Also they have great cocktails, we had a few at the bar before we decided to sit for dinner. The location is great too, its just a few door down from Louis nightclub and Plung Lounge. Cant wait to go back.
Pros: food, ambiance, service, location
Cons: none

This is the first review I have posted, but felt compelled to do so after my experience this weekend. I go to a lot of restaurants and I FELT SO VIOLATED WITH THIS EXPERIENCE. THIS RESTAURANT NEEDS TO CLOSE!!!. I went with 3 other people and had the tasting menu, expecting that they would show off their talents. The bill with no wine but a few cocktails was $600, and the food was just average, just a bit above a chinese buffet. There was absolutely NO CREATIVITY in any of the tasting menu items: fried rice, steamed dumplings, peking duck, stir fried vegetables. I could not believe it. Why they were packed is beyond my comprehension. To top it off, the waiter has the nerve to argue with me about the $60 tip I left for him. DO NOT GO!!

it is a great, lively , and nicely designed restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was awesome. They offer exotic drinks that we'd not had in a long time. Worth every dime that we spent.
Pros: the drinks and food are fantastic
Cons: the noise level is high

I was so happy to hear Philippe restaurant is now in Miami! My friends and I stayed at the Gansvoort South Hotel, and were excited to visit one of our favorite NYC restaurants while there. The food and specialty cocktails were served to the high standards the of NY location, and the service was exceptional as well. Of course, I enjoyed some of my all time favorites... the satays and the extensive wine list! Even though we were only visiting Miami for 4 days... we couldn't help but go twice during our stay.
Pros: food, sights, wines
Cons: music was a bit loud at times
