I relied on google and internet yellow pages to find a prenatal care clinic so I took a hard look at the reviews which were mixed. When I called around trying to get an appointment other clinics and hospitals wouldn't give me the time of day or tell me something I knew didn't make since or was just too complicated. (Like stick around forever on this phone line to be matched with a doctor - Florida Hospital or Come into the er if you want prenatal care - St Joeseph) Genesis could not see me as soon as I would have liked but they were at least willing to see me and automatically match me with the next available doctor, which I felt made a lot more sense to me and was what I was looking for.
When I went for my first prenatal visit I was shocked at how they could get mixed reviews in the first place the staff was excellent and friendly and I didn't have to wait that long at all. I was called in for my appointment before I even finished the paper work!
I was seen in the morning and was told that is the optimum time to be seen as it does decrease the waiting period so if that is an issue for you shoot for a morning time slot.
Geneisis is associated with USF so some of the doctors there are doing their residency and other students are around as well. I wouldn't reccomend to let that bother you as there are supervising doctors handy and when a student gets to their residency they have had experience shadowing before and know what their doing they just need a place to start. I was asked if I wanted to participate in a completely voluntary study for a couple of med students who just asked me a few questions and even gave me a $20 walmart gift card just for being kind enough to participate.
If you think this would bother you just decline..politely please.
Finnally I was seen by a midwife Sullivan who was excellent I felt comfortable with her right away. The entire staff was completely understanding of my request to allow my husband to hear the prenatal heart beat and the midwife went to fetch him from the waiting room without any hesitation. When I started crying because I heard my little one's first heart beat a nurse was sympathetic enough to even get me a tissue! I really didn't expect that type of care down to the last detail. Until now I was unsure of where to deliver but I will most likely go to TGH now that I know how attentive they are.
I chose this provider intially because I needed a place that accepted medicaid which limited my options and like I said before they were the only ones out of everyone I called who were at all helpful. I was never treated like I was at the 'bottom of the barrel' and why should I be? If you have medicaid they're gauranteed to get paid because Uncle Sam is willing to take the bill. If you're taking the bill personally chances are you won't be able to pay them all at once if at all so I certainly don't agree with shying away from this place just because people with medicaid or other low income insurance go there. They also go there because they are excellently staffed. I do have a more extensive list now of places that accept medicaid than I did when I first made the appointment I could switch prenatal care providers if I wanted but I don't want too because they are just that good.

Went there because I couldn't sleep for days. Told them my doc (who was off for the holidays) gave me meds that didn't work. They ran up $5000 of lab tests I didn't know they were doing when all I wanted to do was sleep. Then they offered me the very same medication I told them did not work! Never again.

PROS: None
CONS: See above.

many dont know, but tampa general hospital is affiliated in a way with usf. students from the medical school at usf get training at tgh. i read a review that they didnt like when they were treated by students. well, these are resident students, who have already got the technical training, they work under supervision, and i think thats great that tgh gives them the opportunity to do so. from what i know, doctors, nurses and resident students, all are very friendly and really take care of your concern.

I was surprised at the quality and attention we received when we had to go to Tampa General unexpectedly. The nurses and doctors were very kind and helpful despite the late hours.

i have been to this hospital twice i only went the second time because i thought that maybe they were having a bad day, i waited three hours before they finally saw me, there was only two other people in the er. the doctor came in asked me if i smoked and left. and that was the only time i saw him. that was 450 dollar question. i am not impressed with there service, this is the hospital that people go to that dont have insurance. and they make you fell like you are the bottom of the pits i will never go there.

tampa general hospital is the largest hospital of the bay region, and lives to its reputation of being dedicated for people. several researches take place at the research center. i appreciate them working for the betterment of the medical services. i have been to the emergency one time. the waiting area was nice, and they took less than normal time to look at the patients. thats highly appreciated.

I had to have scheduled surgery. They were way off on their schedule. Had to stay laying on a hard stretcher which was huring my back and they wouldn't give me anything till minutes before wheeling me in. I had just had my 4th child and back pain was already a problem. After surgery the nurses were not great. The nurses and myself did not notice I was having anxiaty attachs finally the doctor came in very late and gave me a scrip and had to explain to the nurses and to treat me better. I hope I can find the doctors name and give him a 5 star.
