The gentleman working the store was extremely rude. When asking the price of an item, he told me that I might be able to afford this smaller one. It took me 4 times asking how much the one i wanted was to get an answer. He has no idea what i can or can't afford. He kept trying to sell me other pieces that I didn't like and didn't listen when I told him. I looked at the smaller ones, but really wanted the original piece I went in for. I asked him if he has a card, phone number, and his response was no and no website either....I responded it was nice trying to do business with you and left with nothing as I would rather spend money on an artist who would appreciate sharing his art.

Stay away from this store. The owner is really rude. I simply asked about the pieces and he said we do not provide any information on any of the pieces. Short, FAT, Bald and the personality of a bull dog! He really ruined the mood of our night for at least an hour. I even complimented him on a piece hanging and he looked at me with NO COMMENT and a stupid stare like he was looking through you. This is a POOR example of a salesperson/owner where the business is based from tourism. He does not deserve to make a living selling anything. Take your suncatchers and put them where the sun doesn't shine.

Note: It's called Suncatchers now.

I was in the store and hadn't noticed the no photography sign and was taking a picture of a suncatcher. All of a sudden, I felt a hand gripping into my shoulder, pulling me back. I was stunned, turned to see what was clawing at me, then saw the store owner point to the no photography sign. I said, "Hey, you're not allowed to put a hand on me; that hurt". He said nothing; just stood there. Again, I said, "Why didn't you just tell me to put the camera away? Why did you hurt me?" Again, he said nothing. I walked out, went across the street, and called the police. Officer came and took information. I didn't press charges; didn't want to dampen our whole vacation. I just wanted him to get shaken up by the cop the way he shook me up. I'm trying to get over this, but he truly ruined my day. Though it was "light" it still felt like an assault. The worse part of it was that my children were there and are still very upset. I plan on reporting to BBB. If this man would do this to a woman with her children present, not sure what else he is capable of.

This store was beautiful, and caught our eye from the street. But, like Pam, we noticed that he was selling one of our favorite artists work in the store. The sign posted in the store suggested it was his work. When we asked him if he got the pieces from our favorite artist, he barked "I don't know". He readily gave credit to two sisters who had made some beautiful costume jewelry he was selling, so we were surprised. The store was stunning, the work amazing; overpriced, but beautiful. But, give credit where credit is due.

The man who was running the shop Saturday May 26, 2012 was the most rude merchant I have ever met. He ignored customer questions and comments, was impatient and asked that I not touch the glass 'icicles' as they fall and break easily (I am a 58 year old woman, for heaven's sake!), he provided a false price on a piece of glass, he did not answer a question about the materials used to make the metal/glass 'stars' and finally said "Lady, I'm getting ready to close. If you're going to buy, buy! Otherwise, good night." !!!!!!!!! Prior to his rude behavior I was planning on purchasing a number of items, easily worth a few hundred dollars. Not only did he blow a good sale, he turned off a potential return buyer. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS MAN. No artist would behave this way ... so if he is the 'artist' of the glitzy colored glass cabochon pices soldered with gold glitter solder, shame on him. The other pieces in the store which were clearly not his, were not given credit for the artist (I recognized the work of two Down East glass artists in the shop). The other artist's pieces were beautiful and true creative artistic expression

Extremely rude owner! This shop is a visual delight but I would not give a penny to a man with such a hair trigger temper. As my teenage daughter and I walked through the door yesterday (7/16/11), she pulled out her camera and was barked at by this man in an inexcusably contemptuous manner. We missed the tiny sign. Of course, we left immediately and would recommend other to stay away!

Horrible owner! My husband and I got hollered at on our 1 year anniversary for not taking pictures! We had NO idea you couldn't take photos in there (the sign is very small and hidden). This old man literally barked at us. I will never, ever go there again. Also, everything is extremely overpriced and all it is, is costume jewelry. I told the owner I was going to buy something until he was so rude and he could forget that!!

This man's work is absolutely gorgeous. I have never seen suncatchers as beautiful as these. I have mine hanging in a kitchen window where I see it every morning and it brings a smile to my face. I look forward to owning more in the future!

Light Sparkles Studio in Bar Harbor is a destination shop for me. Any time I'm in Maine I'm sure to appear there. I have gotten the most wonderful baby, wedding, and birthday gifts there. I also have several pieces around my home in NY and get the most positive comments about them from my guests. The owner keeps updating his shop and his one-of-a-kind pieces are always a delight to see. I totally disagree with the previous 2 comments. I can understand why an artist does not want his work - and livelihood - photographed. His customers should be more understanding of his need to keep his work his. I have only had wonderful experiences at Light Sparkle Studios - with the owner, with the merchandise, and with the joy his work has brought to me and to those I've given his special artwork to. I look forward to getting to Bar Harbor because it is a special town, but I will not visit Bar Harbor without stopping in to this shop. Don't listen to the naysayers - check-out Light Sparkle Studio and see the beautiful pieces available. I love this shop!!

I was in here the other day. The previous posters are right. He didn't yell at me, but we heard him yell at another couple in the store. They were walking around and we kept bumping into each other in this small store. Was trying to find something to justify the exorbitant cost of costume jewelry on wires with light bulbs...it was eye-catching, but up close, not art.

The dark-haired, balding man literally yelled something about not taking pictures. The couple just timidly walked out the door and never spoke back to the man. He really frightened them. I was sad for the couple, but more angry at a business owner, or manager, who would not think twice to speak to someone in that regard. We turned around and walked out.

This guy is derranged and damaged. As my other half would say, "He's not right". I don't know if he's mentally handicapped or just what, but in a tourist town - this should not be tolerated.

What's the expression? "It takes a village to raise an idiot"...? Well, I think the village has better things to do. He was just mean, that's all I can say. Mean and hateful.

I don't post reviews often, unless I feel that I have received wonderful service or the opposite. I encourage others to stay away.

Bar Harbor! Why do you let him stay in your wonderful and charming village? Ugh...get rid of this tyrant.

The owner (short, fat, balding) is the most rude shop owner on the island. It is unfortunate for the other shopkeepers in Bar Harbor that this idiot has to taint an otherwise good reputation. I work in New York, and you would think I'd have come across all types, but I have never been spoken to and treated so rudely in my life (40+ years!). I would not spend one red cent in that store. I did not see a "no photography" sign and was about to take a photo (but clearly no photo had been taken), when he starts ranting about how I have no manners and how rude I was to presume I could take a picture of his precious work. I tried to reason with him and let him know I didn't purposely ignore the sign, and that I just didn't realize, but to no avail. He obviously needs some serious medication along with some anger management classes. If that's his idea of good customer relations, he'll be out of business soon! GOOD!
And hey folks-don't pay his outrageous prices! It ain't rocket science--make your own suncatcher. Go to you.tube. Gather up old jewelry gem stones (costume jewelry) at flea markets, yard sales, or your mom's jewelry box (ask first!!) and do it yourself. Bar Harbor needs him to go away!!!!

I went to Google to get info on the shop, as I plan to post everywhere I can about the rudeness of the shop keeper! I also called the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce to inquire further (this shop is not a member, but they have heard complaints about the shopkeeper).

September 17, my partner and I were on a 3-week cruise and stopped over in Bar Harbor. We were here last in 2005 and had a nice time. We walked past Light Sparkles Studio, there was a big "Sun Catcher" sign in front. I proposed to my partner on this trip, so we were video-taping all of our ports, etc. I don't make a habit of video taping any stores. I tape our vacations and have no other motive. I was taping my partner walking INTO the store and I was asking him a question, when the clerk (or manager / owner with brown hair) behind the counter loudly barked (there is no better word), "NO PHOTOS IN THE STORE!!!!!" Yes, I do have this on video tape, his shouting at me as I stepped one foot in. I thought he was going to jump over the counter and strike me. I'm a big guy, 6'7"- and not often intimidated, but he was loud, extremely angry and vicious. I was stunned, as I haven't been spoken too like that since being bullied in grade school, 35 - 40 years ago. I didn't know what to say, I just waived, "Good bye" and that was it. He then shouted, "GOOD! Leave!" That's when something clicked and I said, "You don't have to be mean and rude." With his face contorted and angry, he said, "THERE'S A SIGN ON THE DOOR, NO PHOTOGRPHY!!!" I said, "You're rude! You don't need to speak with me that way!" And my partner grabbed me and told me to go. Hey, we vote with our dollars and if he doesn't want our dual income being spent in his store, we'll find another venue or shop. I was seriously considering picketing the guys place (there was a police officer outside and I was even going to ask him for help) but my partner just said, "Let's take a picture of his shop and post our experience on the Internet...it will reach more people that way." So that is what we're doing... Anywhere we can, we are providing our real experience with the picture of his shop. Good riddance! He doesn't deserve even one star. What a hateful, angry troll-like man. You'd think he would welcome tourist dollars...in this tourist town. Believe me, we have absolutely no interest in photographing something just so we can run home to California and re-create it...no, we have jobs and a life.
