In December of 2003, my then 3 year old son rapidly developed a high fever (103-104) and began vomiting. We took him to the local hospital and Dr. Ashir happened to be the doctor that came by that day. We had just moved to the area so we had not found a pediatrician at that time. Dr. Ashir admitted him to the hospital where we spent an entire week (my son was release right before Christmas). We spent the first two days running tests and trying to find a cause. The fever would not stay down and even reached 105 regularly, so high that he would jerk and mumble - he was on IVs (for dehydration and antibiotics) (VERY scary stuff). Dr. Ashir, as a last resort, mentioned a spinal tap. He didn't push us to do it but he let us know that the spinal tap would be the only way to know if it was meningitis. We waited one more day to see if he showed any improvement. He didn't, so Dr.
Ashir called for an anesthesiologist and did the spinal tap. It was meningitis. After he was released, we went to Dr. Ashir's office for a follow up a few days later. My son has always had a mole on his upper arm. Dr. Ashir noticed this (when my son's previous physician said "Oh, it's fine") and instead of blowing it off, sent us to have it checked by a dermatologist. It WAS fine, but knowing that he saved my son's life AND took action on something that had previously been ignored proved that he was one of THE BEST pediatricians ever! He truly is a great doctor; he is always smiling, always concerned, very thorough, and playful with the kids. Most definitely recommend him!

Dr. Ashir took an interest in finding out what may be wrong with my son when his regular pediatrician was failing to do so. He wanted to find out what was causing my son's lethargic vomiting episodes not just treat it. We recommend the wonderful dr.
