We went to the Pioneer Village in June 2006. Amazing, amazing collection. There's no way to see it all. There was a lady on hand demonstrating how to make yarn the old fashioned way. Very sweet woman. We definitely want to make it back. The only drawback was a natural one--lots of mosquitoes in Minden in June. Definitely bring some kind of repellent if you go in the Summer.

Update: We made a return visit to the Pioneer Village Museum in July 2011. We got to see things we missed the first time. So enjoyable! Thousands and thousands of pieces. I don't think you could see it all in a week. Beautiful courtyard with amazing tall trees and the mosquitoes weren't as bad this time. I'm sure we will be back as a family to enjoy again.

This is our third visit to the Museum and restaurant. My and my sister in-law's family vacationed at the Pioneer Village May 14 and 15. The Friday night special was fried shrimp, which was the choice of each member of our party. The shrimp was horribly over cooked, to the point that it wasn't edible. The waitress apologized and offered to bring us something else. We were so discouraged with our meal by the time someone finally came around to ask, we were ready to just walk out.
The first shock came when we were presented with a bill reflecting full price for meals which we didn't/couldn't eat. (Good thing we didn't have the waitress bring us something else, we probably would have had to pay for that too!)
My second shock came when I paid the bill and was informed that the cook knew the shrimp was over cooked but served it anyway.
This one incident cancels any good comment I could make.

This place isn't so much a museum as a series of snapshots of the U.S.A. growing up. It will take at least 2 days to see everything, but you could spend weeks going through it. Antique cars back to 1895. Steam engines. A pioneer shack. Great place to visit.
