Great Food, Great atmosphere. Portions are great!
Last weekend my husband and I experienced our first dinner at Bangkok Thai Talay.

The food was amazing! cool painting on the wall all and all very good eats.

My only problem was with the service. The owner dose not leave you alone to enjoy your meal, I understand the greeting of customers but come on give me a break! He stood at our table for about 10 minutes chatting about god knows what. We would have had a greater experience if were we left alone to eat.

My advice, great customers only no chit-chat.

Got there about 8 o'clock Friday night, It took a while to get seated and to get a beverage, But I (unlike some others who have posted before me) have worked in the Restaurant business and know this can happen sometimes! Be patient, its worth the wait!

Ordered the Fried Springroll for app. They were good, and I loved the homemade Garlic Chili Sauce!

Next we got our Yum Nua (warm Thai Beef Salad) The portion was perfect as well as the flavor! I asked for Prik Nam Pla (fresh Thai Chili's with fish sauce and fresh lime juice) they were prepared for this, as it came out right away.

Our dinner's were:

For my partner Panang Curry with beef, Like I said' nice portion and the flavors were spot on.

For me, The Basil Seafood Stir Fry, I asked for hot and I got it! Perfectly seasoned and the shrimp were NOT overcooked!!

We were intending to have dessert as well, but ran out of room!! Oh well perhaps next time, and there WILL be a next time for sure!!!

The Bangkok Thai is the place I consistently choose for its food. Their curries are balanced and rich which why I come back regardless of some nights being too busy for the staff to handle. Also I like that they really cater to us Vegans with good tofu dishes try the Pad Tofu or Chu Chee curry if you like it a bit spicy. My wife also loves the seafood, especially the Sea Bass served with as the house recommends. FYI, Monday nights there is a discount on Vegi dishes just make sure to tell the servers as they won't always take it off without asking.

I lived in Salt Lake City for over 20 years and have been to a majority of the Thai restaurants. I first started going to Bangkok Thai when they were located in Foothill Villiage. I was hooked! I was thrilled when they moved within 10 minutes of my house oh Highland Dr. The new location is great! The owner did a fantastic job decorating and the restaurant is very clean! And the food...well, it's as good as ever. When I lived in SLC, my girlfriend and I would eat there at least once per week. My favorite is the pad thai and Kaffir lime curry (panang). Her favorite is the Massaman curry.
We moved to Las Vegas a little over a year ago and have been searching diligently for a Thai restaurant that is as good as 'Bangkok' (as we call it). We have tried at least ten Thai restaurants with no luck. The best we have found in Las Vegas is Lotus of Siam which was named by Gourmet Magazine as the "single best Thai restaurant in North America". Even with all the hype, it still falls short of Bangkok Thai Talay!!
Whenever we visit family in Salt Lake now, we make sure to visit Bangkok Thai.

This place was bad from the moment my husband and I walked in the door. They seated us then no one came to our table to give us water or greet us for 15 minutes. When they finally did they asked us for our order and drinks at the same time which was fine since we had plenty of time to look at the menu. We ordered two appetizers and our dinners and drinks. The server brought out our appetizers and my dinner but not my husbands dinner. About 10 minutes later she brought my husbands dinner out. The food was nothing special and my food was very salty (I love salty food but this was too much for me to handle). Our drinks were never refilled the whole time we were there and the waitress didn't even really check on us the whole time. When she finally did come to bring us our check she said, "I hope the wait wasn't too long for you." Then to top it off the server wrote on our check, "cash is appreciated". I'm sorry if that is your preferred method of payment but don't tell me what is best for you, I will pay however I want to.
I would highly recommend eating somewhere else. Bad food, bad service and overpriced for what you get.

I'm truly torn about Bangkok Thai Talay. My husband & I went there Friday night for dinner & had an interesting experience. First of all, when we walked in, there was no one to greet us. We waited for several minutes for one of the waitresses to finally come & put us at a table, which she seemed extremely put out to have to do. It took another 10-15 minutes for our waiter to even acknowledge us, at which point he said he would have to drop off the other tables' food & would be right with us. Several more minutes passed while we watched our waiter running around like a chicken with his head cut off. He finally came to take our order & informed us that their computer system was down, as was their air conditioner. He seemed rushed, irritated, was not entirely polite & did not check on us once we had our food. At one point, the owner started yelling at one of the waitresses, all within earshot of the entire restaurant. Very unprofessional. That being said...the FOOD was amazing! I had the basil seafood saute, which was packed full of seafood & a delicious sauce; husband had the waterfall steak, which he said was cooked to perfection with a wonderful peppercorn sauce. We also ordered two appetizers, which were fantastic. I want to return to Bangkok Thai for the food, but will remain wary of the service.

I highly recommend checking out Bangkok Thai Talay. The restaurant is top notch and has an excellent atmosphere, and of course, great food. I think there is at least one dish on the menu that everyone would like, so it's easy to go there with friends because even if they're not into the spicy dishes, there are plenty of non-spicy dishes too. Also, my sister is vegan so it can be really hard to find a decent place for her to eat. Bangkok Thai Talay has a "Meatless Monday" deal for those who don't eat meat and lists all dishes that can be prepared vegan.
Although I am not vegan or vegetarian now, (I was vegan and vegetarian for a long time!), It's nice to have a place that respects that lifestyle because it can be really hard to find a decent meal for a vegan!

I recommend the shrimp tempura and the green curry. For vegans, the panang curry..

I was a huge fan of this restaurant when they were on foothill and I am very glad to see them back! Not only is the food still way above par ( and absolutely untouchable compared to anything else in this state) but they have a much larger space and you do not have to park miles away like you had to at the foothill location. I went on a busy Friday night and although it took a little while for the food to come out (which was expected due to the fact that we decided to dine at probably the busiest time of the week) it was a great time. Bottle of wine, good friends, great food, even the waiter was joking around with us and jumped right in helping me tease my older ,and sometimes very strange, brother from out of town!! My table was in agreement that we all wanted to go back soon, and the owner even gave us a coupon to use for our next visit on the way out the door. I would give them ten stars but the scale only goes up to 5. Absolute must try's Green Curry with shrimp, and the Duck in Chu Chee Curry! WOW!

Every time we go here it is a joke. actual comedy.
Tonight the power went out for no reason
Their waiters are frazzled while being bossed around by the owner who is so up in everyone's business it is a riot. The place is usually empty.
And what a negative nancy the guy is too.
ALSO ITS FREEZING. he says the heater is on but i think he is just cheap . but you will stay warm by the fire place because it takes ten minutes to be seated.. why? the owner is in outer space.
People dine in this resturant with their coats on.
They never have dumplings so dont order them.
No complaints about the food

Atrocious service. It was almost hard to believe that there could be such a lack of concern. It was not busy. The manager was so far out in space that he did not recognize that there was any problem with our table or any of the other diners that were waiting. I refuse to give it another chance.

I wanted to like this new Thai food location like the original Bangkok Thai in Foothill Village, but a lot is missing.... portions are smaller, food is very average, but worst of all is the very poor service, and a feeling that "nobody cared..." Maybe with the huge influx of Thai food in Salt Lake now, it is too difficult to find a good Thai chief now... heard rumors that owner, Dennis was not easy to work for and that may be the reason why the staff was not so concerned about the service offered... there are much better choices in Salt Lake City now.. very sorry to have an old favorite slip so much...

When I first walked into this place, I was shocked to see that there was no hostess. I have been to bangkok thai 3 times and every single time i go, nobody is there to greet you and we end up waiting over 10 minutes to even get acknowledged. And this is when there are less than 4 tables in the whole restaurant. They really need to hire a hostess, instead of having the manager run around trying to seat people. I suggested this to the manager and he said they have problems with people calling in sick....not that this actually addressed my concerns. The server switched the level of spiciness in my and my boyfriend's dishes, mine ended up being extra spicy instead of medium, which prevented me from eating it comfortably. the server blamed this on the cook.

The reason i keep coming back is because their food is truly delicious. I always get a curry dish and they are very flavorful, different spiciness, and have a variety of vegetables, which i like. the ambience is so-so. Mainly i think the food is commendable, which is why i am willing to put up with the awful service.

I was introduced to Bankok Thai by a friend when it opened after relocating. I had never tried Thai food before and was skeptical. Since then I have gone back at least once a week and have tried everything on the menu. I have yet to be disappointed. The staff is usually very prompt and friendly. My food has almost always been perfect and is fixed quickly if requested. Try the Panang Curry - my favorite.

Bangkok Thai Talay has amazing food. They get busy sometimes, which is a good thing. However the staff are always professional and very friendly. At their busiest, it is best to either go without time restraints, or wait for a less busy time. This is the only place I consistently get Thai food. Between the time the Foothill location closed and the new location opened, I tried many other places. I found one in Yuba City, CA that is pretty close. Now that Bangkok is open again, we go there at least 3-4 times a month, sometimes more. I like most everything on their menu. Though tastes vary, my favorites are: Red Curry with tofu, the coconut broth soup, tofu cakes in chu chee curry, the seared scallops and tuna, panang curry, evil prince, evil princess, and drunken noodles. Okay, there are probably more but these are excellent. I am not a thai iced tea fan, but my friends say theirs is excellent. If you are unsure of what to order, ask Ben or Dennis to give you a hand, they will be very happy to assist. Since they have reopened, I went back to one of the local places that was 'pretty good' because it is closer to me, and it was just not the same. Bangkok Thai is now and again the only place I go in SLC for Thai.
p.s. they are so good, that even with gas as bad as it is I drive up from Sandy even if I have to get carryout.

Terrible service. I waited 45 minutes to simply get a glass of wine and the staff barely apologized. I'm normally very sympathetic towards overworked wait staff. The sad part was the restaurant was not understaffed just incompetent. The portions were small, the food bland and prices were high compared to other Thai Restaurant in the area. Go to Pawitt's or Bangkok Thai for a more authentic experience.

As frequent (and always satisfied) diners at the former Bangkok Thai in Foothill Village, we were horribly disappointed with our visit to the "new" Bangkok Thai on Highland Drive. Beginning with the lack of a host/hostess to seat us when we arrived, and ending with our waiter messing up the bill and then asking us to "just adjust it yourselves and take it out of my tip", the experience was a train wreck from start to finish. Chicken satay appetizer arrived terribly undercooked and had to be sent back, only to be replaced with an equally-undercooked replacement. Tom Yum Goong was lukewarm because the sterno had burned out, and when we pointed it out to the manager, he apologized and then disappeared without doing anything about it. We ordered our Waterfall Steak "medium-well", but it arrived not quite medium-rare, and by then we had lost our appetites and had no desire to send it back and wait for a new dish. We just wanted to get out as quickly as possible. If only I could say the service and/or atmosphere compensated, but it was equally poor. Needless to say, we won't be going back, and judging by the fact that at least half of the tables were empty at 8:00 pm on this Friday evening, the restaurant itself may not be around much longer.

After having the displeasure of perusing the proceeding reviews, I find myself at a loss. Perhaps since it's move, as well as a year long hiatus, people have forgotten what good Thai food is like? Perhaps the consumers' pallets have been adulterated and sullied, saturated by all the other upstart Thai restaurants that sprang up in an attempt to fill the void that was left by Bangkok Thai? Whatever the case may be, some individuals seem to have been misled. This certainly comes as no surprise in a state where many uneducated and unrefined diners think that partaking of a meal at Olive Garden or Red Lobster constitutes fine dining. My advice is to the writers of future articles; take some time to figure out what you are talking about before pretending to be an expert.
Having grown up around Thai cuisine and culture, and having grown up spoiled and glutted on good food, having dined in some of the finest restaurants in the world, I am no false epicurean or gastronomic poseur, and I will attest to the fact that BANGKOK THAI HOLDS ITS OWN against anything you can find in the country. I can cite better known rivals in Hawaii and California that can't hold a candel to this establishment.
For those of you whom cannot fit the chairs or who find fault with the "decor", I have a few other words of advice- 1) ambiance isn't everything, and 2) Bangkok Thai Talay is conveniently located next to a 24 hour fitness.
This place is the root, the original Thai. They were the ones who had the "Best Of" title year after year until their jersey was retired...and they still deserve it.
I suggest readers go out and support this gem of a restaurant, before it is lost to the waves of the cheap, the pretentious, & fickle.

After having the displeasure of perusing the proceeding reviews, I find myself at a loss. Perhaps since it's move, as well as a year long hiatus, people have forgotten what good Thai food is like? Pros: The absolute best Thai, amongst other things, for an extremely reasonable price. It's great for dates, I bring my girlfriend here weekly.

Cons: Some of the clientele bring in children, which I doubt is a plot to increase alchohol sales for nearby tables, but it does the trick.

i recently visited bangkok thai for the first time and was very happy with everything. the food is great (try the nam pak) and the service is great. however i usally get takeout from a reastraunt to see their true colors and bangkok has not let me down. the person who answered the phone was very helpful and pleasent she also recommended my new fav dish nam pak! plus they were accurate in the time they quoted me and the best part was that everything that i orderd was given to me ( a problem a few of the other thai restraunts in this town consitantly have. ) eat in or take out i highly recomend this place.

I was so happy to see bangkok thai open back up, and even more excited to find that they had retained the same chef and owner. The new place is great with a new fresh atmosphere and some great new seafood plates (of course they still had all my fav curries and noodle dishes). i work in the area of the new location and have taken many of my co-wokers there for lunch where they have great deals and daily specials! you really cant beat this place for lunch, for the price of what i would spend at wendys or crown burger you get something that is really tasty and filling. (seriously like 6 to 10 bucks). And i dont know what is up with the reviews saying that the chairs are uncomfotable and the service is bad because the two servers i have had (brandon and ben i think were their names) were very friendly and fast. and as for the chairs??? who knows, the person writing the review was probably fat or something. they are not lazy boy recliners no, but they are the same as any place i have ate at. im SOOO happy to have my Bangkok back!!!

I went to the new location on Highland Drive about a month ago, and I was very disappointed. The decor was plain and non existent, almost felt like I was sitting in a warehouse.

The dish I ordered tasted burnt, and by the time my food arrived (almost 30-40 minutes, with only one other table of customers in the entire restaurant) I didn't have time to send it back, as I had somewhere I needed to be. The only good thing was the waiter didn't make me pay for the burnt food. We did get Satay to start, and that was tasty.

Also, please, get some new chairs! The chairs are horribly uncomfortable. Your rear sinks through the middle of the chair, and feels like you're sitting on a square wooden toilet.

With a couple other really good Thai restaurants close by (Pawit's Thai Royale, and Thai Garden), I don't think I'll ever return to Bangkok Thai.

I was really unimpressed. The food was mediocre, and the service terrible. I ordered Pad Thai authentic spicy, and when I was served I came to realize there was no spice at all. The waitress gave me a difficult time when I complained, and brought back the same dish with dried pepper sprinkled on top.

The coconut sticky rice was tasty, but they brought it out so hot that it could not be eaten for at least 5 minutes.

I've definately had better Thai, if you want great Thai, go to Lemongrass downtown.

Now located near 3300 South and Highland Drive, Bangkok Thai is as excellent as ever. The decore has been pared down and modernized, and the new location provides considerably more space than the old Foothill accommodations. The staff is prompt and courteous, and the menu has some very worthwhile new dishes while maintaining most of their delicious classics.

Bangkok Thai is offers average Thai food for above average prices. Over a spread of five years I've only been their twice, but both times I was disatisfied with both service and food quality. The satay chicken was severely over-cooked and a tiny portion even for an appetizer. The pad thai and other entre were average- mostly rice noodles with sauce and consisted of mostly rice noodles with sauce without much meat (I can make better out of a box), although entre portions were large. We waited at least thirty minutes between the appetizer and the entre, and the restaurant was no more than a quarter full. Although the abience is more upscale and perhaps romantic than other Thai choices in SLC, I prefer lower prices and higher quality food. Thai Siam on state street is the favorite Thai restaurant of SLC locals according to City Weekly surveys, and I agree.

I had the time of my life there when i stopped into town there last time! (I alway make sure to stop by Bangkok Thai)
The food is always excellent, and the service is great even though last time my Thai waiter was not fluent in English, he was very helpful and made sure everything was just perfect. He was an authentic "Thai" person and he was a monk! (I think his name was Mitch) If you have a chance to go in there ask for him or Pablo. They are great!
The owner is a mad man, and the chef is as uniqe as a three dollar bill! check it out! - ey.

After seeing the reviews I was worried that I would be disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised. There is a huge selection of dishes including Northern Thai dishes such as Khao Soi curry noodles and Jungle Curry and a lot of dishes that they created. I had the Mango Curry Chicken and it was amazing. It was not very spicy but the waiter said that I could have it hotter if I wanted. My friend had the Jungle Curry which was very authentic. I really like the new space with big open ceilings and lots of Thai art as well as Modern art on the walls. My waiter, Andrew was very attentive and I thought the service was fast. I can see that if the place was full it would be a lot slower but I came in early in the evening. I am coming back for lunch because there are some very interesting dishes I have never seen anywhere else. I think that the new restaurant is at least as good as the old one and they have more on the menu.

Want cold dumplings (not-heated-through-frozen)? Glare in your face? Indifferent service? Wrong degree of spiciness? Try Bangkok Thai! But, yes, the cloth napkins ARE elaborately folded. Perhaps you can spend some time figuring out how to create that magic.

I used to be Bangkok Thai's biggest fan...that is until they started raising their prices and decreasing their portions. I was shocked when I ordered a bowl of curry and it was barely enough to pass as an appetizer. I walked away with a $40 order and a practically empty stomach. Besides that, this restaurant is the reason I started eating Thai food so that's got to be worth something. I think I will stick to Thai restaurants with portions large enough to fill my stomach, and prices low enough not to drain my wallet.

After dining at Bangkok Thai for the first time I have been back many many times. The food is outstanding, I am a long time lover of thai food and have even worked in a couple of thai food establishments myself. Go at dinner for a romatic or atmosphere (I dunno how they pull off both, but it works as well for pints with the buddies as is does wine with the girl) Or at lunch for prices that I would pay double for. Amazing 6.99 lunch specials every day !! outstanding!! real food for burgerking prices!! i would happly pay twice as much (and have).

The review in City Search were less than accurate in my opinion. The Tom Yum Gai soup had predominantly white mushrooms and onions with no additional vegetables. The broth had too much sugar. Their idea of "hot" was to add red pepper flakes on top of dish for serving. Prices were a bit high considering the ambience, (none) and the quality of the dishes. The one redeeming quality was the respectable wine list.

Deelish! Not too many places can cook tofu and make it taste as good as they do at Bangkok Thai. The curries are exellent, as are the spring rolls, fried tofu, and curry puffs! Great wine list, also.
The bill can be a shocker, unless you dine on "meatless Mondays", or at lunch time.

Bangkok Thai is the best Oriental restaurant in this town.
It reminds me of Thai restaurants in Australia. Great whopping menu with so many dishes. The people are passionate about their place. It took a couple tries to get the spices right, they cook a little on the milder side. But now they are spot on. A great wine list with decent beers and cheap draft beer. It is where I take my best friends and guests and always it is a joy.

The menu is the best with new dishes every time I go. The wine list is big and I always find a new reasonably priced wine to buy for home. It is busy as it should be and the food is fresh. The service is good and friendly, especially Greg and all of the Thai people. You can ask for your favorite waiter. There are usually discounts available on most dishes and takeout tastes almost as good as it does in the restaurant. They will give out advice on cooking and have recipes on the web. It is nice but casual and open every night. The owner is funny and kinda wierd.

It is great that someone care enough to offer a vegan alternative. Although I wish this place were only vegan, they make me feel safe in ordering vegan. The people there have a lot of knowledge about vegan preparation unlike the other Thai restaurants in town, where everything has fish in it. There are more selections than I can imagine and the prices are good expecially on Meatless Mondays and Tuesdays. They offer a discount to UARC members everyday but Fridays and Saturdays which is awesome.

Bangkok Thai is my new favorite restaurant! The food is very good and healthy. The people are so friendly and laid back. I love eating such nice food in a non-stuffy atmosphere. They make everything from scratch, they don't use msg, they don't fry everything. The portions are so huge we always have leftovers to take home. its excellent. My family has decided to eat there once a month.
