Went to this sushi restaurant on Dec 31st for the 2nd time this year. Food was good but the waitresses were aloof. The cleanliness of this restaurant has considerably declined. Upon parking on the side I noticed the blacked out windows

The best meal I've had in a long time. Sushi Loca has always been a favorite hot spot of mine - but I honestly think last night was THE BEST dinner I've had out so far this year. From the first second to the last - I was thrilled. I set up a dinner party for 6 friends and picked Sushi Loca because I know they have those great sushi bar. I made a reservation a few weeks ahead of time as I know its a popular place to be on Friday night.
The sushi was so fresh and the specials of the day were unlike anything I'd ever tried. We continued our night after sushi loca, but everyone kept teasing that we should've quit while we were ahead! The dinner was so fantastic that every club in Las Vegas had to offer paled in comparison. Incredible experience. I'm a little bit of a food snob - so when I rave like this, I hope all citysearch readers take note!

My 1st visit to this restuarant was last night. I was so impressed with the service, the food was off the hook! I talked about this Sushi Loca restuarant to all my friends and I was so hungry for it again that I ordered take out the next day. It was not even close to what I had last night. I even ordered the same thing. Now my last experience with this food has me mad. I spent the same amount of money I did last night, but only got half the value. I didnt even get the sause I had last night. SOOOOoooooo I would recommend eating in the restuarant. It is so much better! Don't go for pick-up. You WILL be disappointed. I was!!

This restaurant surpasses all other Japanese restaurants especially for not being located in a Hotel and away from the strip. The decor is really nice like somthing you would see in LA or New York. The staff are all extremely polite and even with my very high maintenance friends they continued to accomodate. The food was nothing short of fabulous. You go there once you will go back!

We found this restaurant through CitySearch and noticed the rave reviews. Being a foodie, I decided to check it out the other night. Where I live in Vegas, it's a 9 minute drive on the freeway, so it's close. It's also located in a very nice area of town, which brought my hopes up. Going with a previous review stating that this was better than Nobu--which honestly did not impress me when I went last week--I wanted to see what an off strip Sushi bar could offer.

Walking into the place, you feel like you've steped into a posh Japanese sushi bar. The colors and layout is fantastic, and there are at least four sushi chefs on hand at all times. I loved the menu offerings, from cold and hot appetizers to the infamous hibachi and bento boxes. As any great sushi bar will have, they offer the Americanized rolls but have a beautiful variety of sushi to order. We ordered the Man dai sushi (Japanese snapper) and garlic tuna sushi, along with shrimp & vegetable tempura appetizer, beef teriyaki (cut up ribeye) appetizer, fried gyoza, Nobu special roll, and yellowtail jalapeno sashimi (which they offer at Nobu for three times the price). I have to say that as a person who grew up on a Pacific Island and having access to authentic Asia cuisine, including breathtaking Japanese sushi chefs and their culinary expertise, this place ranks on my top five places in Las Vegas to go for sushi.
Not only were the flavors beautiful and clean, but their service was impeccable, their servers dressed (the women only) in kimonos which added to the authenticity of the restaurant, and the traditional Japanese greetings coming in and leaving. Add on the experience with honest-to-god beautiful and very delictable Japanese cuisines, and you have yourself a fantastic restaurant off the strip that is much better than what the hotels have to offer. I know some people may think that I am exxagerating, but you have to try it to understand the beauty in their food. I give them my personal 5/5

Sometimes it?s the service that matters. Sometimes it?s the food that brings you back. Whichever the case there?s a good sampling of both to be found at Sushi Loca. I?m a local. I live right across the highway and while I?m not a ?foodie? I do consider myself versed in sushi. I have worked in the business before at a reputable sushi restaurant with classically trained Japanese Sushi chefs who took themselves and their art way too seriously so I have some prior knowledge of what to expect from a good sushi joint. What I know and what I demand I found at Sushi Loca.
I think when we read these reviews we need to take author bias into question. Is the author a snooty ex-Summerlin resident who fauns over anything heralded as five stars by some know-it-all food critic based out of L.A? Is the author a lifted truck driving Southern Californian who?s only desire is cheap beer and all you can eat sushi before heading to the next motocross event? Is either author somehow to be taken not as seriously? Is either candidate somehow disreputable? The answer is no. Take everything you read as a polite suggestion. Read up if you want but don?t skip out on a wonderful local restaurant based on what someone else thinks about it. Going out to eat in a part of town outside of the hubs of the industry is sometimes a difficult endeavor. Hell, out here we?re lucky to have fresh food at all! Take some advice, try Sushi Loca for yourself. I can?t guarantee you?re going to like the Toro- Mr. Shin, the previous commenter was right, it?s a bit awkward but this is a desert so I?m not complaining-but I know you?ll enjoy the friendly staff and the wonderful fare.

Cons: A bit noisy. I wouldn't suggest going on the weekends unless you want to drink and be loud.

I LOVE sushi, and eat out for sushi at least once per week. After finding Sushi Loca, there is no need to go anywhere else! It's a bit out of the way for me (it's in Centennial Hills), but totally worth the drive. The food is always fresh, very consistant (I am IN LOVE with the Loca Special roll, and it has the same kick every time!) and quick. The prices are comparable to other restaurants and the "vibe" is always fun, welcoming and unpretentious. I highly recommend the loca special roll and the crazy horse roll. They're so addictive!

We have been so disappointed with service and food at our local Las Vegas restaurants. Thank goodness that we have found a wonderful place to eat and imbibe at Sushi Loca. The service is impecable, the food excellent, and the prices very reasonable. We have tried very many sushi restaurants in town, including Nobu, and Sushi Loca has been by far the best --yes, we had a better experience here than at Nobu! We have come to the restaurant as husband and wife--date night!--and also brought the kids, and both times had equally as good a time. Unlike another reviewer, when we ordered chicken for our children, we were brought additional plates for them to share the dish, and we were asked how spicy we would like the dish to be--they obviously took interest in our children's experience. Additionally, when my husband and I visited the restaurant a few times without children, we were treated like we were the only people in the place--and we were not. Everyone received this kind of attention, and the chefs individualized sushi orders to please. We have been really impressed with this restaurant and the quality in which the food is prepared.

Been there 10 times for lunch and dinner. Consistance food every time. Reasonably priced and large portions. The food is fresh and presentation is great too. A fun place to go with good service and friendly staff. Sometime a little noisy with sushi bar crowd having fun. Large menu to choice from too. Also hot dishes are good if you don't want all sushi. Some the the cheapest and best sushi in the city.

This is a fun place to enjoy Sushi. I have been there a few times and am returning again tonight with an out of town guest.
The food is delicious (and I have been to MANY Sushi restaurants over the years), the rolls have fun names that make you giggle, the service in great and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Oh, and the prices are comparable to most Sushi restaurants.
I think you will love this one.

My wife and I visited the restaurant over memorial day. We met up with some friends in Las Vegas. Coming from New York City, we must say that this menu is quite on par with New York sushi restaurants. They are very creative with the dishes and everything was fresh. That was key for us! Service was fabulous too. It is definitely not like restaurants on the strip. This is more local and has the cozy feel but still lets you know you are in Vegas. We would return.

Well let's start with saying the ad online makes it sound like this is a 5 star sushi bar.I went there and my first roll was a roll with tuna inside and out and the tuna was too pink for me.The second roll of the same name was great, it was deep in red color, that is how I like it. I then ordered the Toro, and it was ok , I have had better, but I felt like I was in a all you can eat sushi bar cause I felt so rushed, when I ordered they were in a rush,,when I was trying to leave the hostess was too busy talking on her cell phone to see if I needed anything else, finally i walked up and said can I have my bill, so yes I was disappointed..

This is a great place to go, when you walk through the door everyone who works there greets you with cheers. The Sushi chefs are extremely entertaining and really create a great atmosphere. The waiters and waitress's have great personlities and also provide great service. They have a great menu with some hilarious names for some extraordinary sushi rolls. Everything we have tried has been fabulous and also very good value. So go check out Sushi Loca, you won't be dissapointed. You may want to make a reservation on the weekend as it is does get quite busy.

I've been a sushi'ologist for over 5years now and my travels have spawned some of the best spots all around the United States and select overseas countries,,and I've never induldged this type of sushi ever in any of those locations!,,I had the Final Fantasy roll which included this ponzu spice sauce and it had me from the start!,,the roll had a consistency I've never come to know,,it held together and the rice was sticky to perfection,,they serve you edamame and spiced cucumbers when you sit down and thought that was a kind way to start,,the chefs are happy to be serving and are very kind,,the atmosphere is quite lively and the decor choice considering my bedroom is similar in motif!,,I also tried a selection off of their special board at the bar,,it was a Hawaiin Salmon sashimi and was served a very genorous portion,,the plating was a delight as well,,This being my first trip and not all to hungry I only feasted on what I have just mentioned but i assure you that I will be attending their establishment again,,I sat and read both the bar menu and the kitchen menu and planned my next conquest when I return to Sushi Loca!!!

The best sushi I every had. Sushi Loca is truly unique and authentic.. The staff, is a delightful part of the your dining experience. The chiefs provide friendly entertainment as they prepare delicious gourmet meals. The wait staff dressed in tradition Japanese outfits are extremely friendly, polite and efficient, Everyone in Sushi Loca seem eager to make your dinner a pleasurable experience and they succeeded in doing that. Last but not least is the food itself. The presentations are beautiful and the taste is excellent. From the unique names on their menu to your custom request each dish is a pure delight. I just moved to the Las Vegas area and have traveled the world. It is so refreshing to have the best sushi right here locally. Again I would rate Sushi Loca as 5 stars, when it comes to food and service, and highly recommend it.

i am a las vegas resident, i have eaten at sushi loca 5 times now and will go back again. I am NOT a sushi expert but i must say that the food was great. there was cooked sushi, raw sushi, deserts. I remember getting the Final Fantasy 2, and the Honey Honey (it's funny the different entrees have exotic names like Final Fantasy 2, Honey Honey (dont worry the contents of the entree is right beside) ). The menu has a large amount of different things to choose from, the prices are incredibly reasonable, and the staff is very friendly and goes out of their way to please you. I highly recommend and will be back again

I had such high hopes for this restaurant after reading the previous reviews as well as the fact that the location is less than a mile from my house. What a disappointment this place was. I went there on a Thursday night with my daughters (ages 4 & 6) to try it out. I ordered 3 sushi rolls and the chicken yakisoba. I asked the waiter to bring 2 plates for the girls to split the yakisoba. He didn't bother to tell me that their yakisoba was very spicy, almost too spicy for me to eat. I have ordered Chicken Yakisoba on many occasions and never had one prepared spicy. The sushi I ordered came prepared differently as well. The standard California roll I ordered for the girls was great, along with the Philadelphia roll. The specialty roll I ordered was awful. It tasted nothing like I've had before at several other locations in town. It was void of any flavor at all, and not the least bit spicy (as it stated in the description.) This is the roll that cost me $14 so I was very disappointed. My other complaint would be the table we were placed at. I guess because I have children the host assumed we would be loud because we were placed right next to a goup of college students that were drinking and yelling obscenities. I have no problem with people that like to party and have a good time, but I was let down by the fact that the waiter didn't offer to move us after I complained about the noise. I seriously could barely hear my children talk to me. I will say that the decor of this place is beautiful, and yes they do greet EVERYONE when entering or exiting. Our waiter was very attentive when it came to refilling our drinks and bringing us our food. So in the end I payed $50 plus a $10 tip for a disappointing meal for 3. I guess I will have to keep driving to Summerlin for good sushi.

Pros: nice decor, attentive staff

Cons: too expensive, not that good of food

We are always looking for a great sushi restaurant and happened to find one, close to home, in Sushi Loca.
As you walk in everyone greets you with the standard greeting. The decor is nice and modern without being over the top. They have so many specialty rolls with cool, loca names. Our favorite was "I did your girlfriend." Funny to say and order but so tasty! We noticed two other tables ordered the same thing. Also tried "Heart Attack", delicious! Sushi pieces were large and fresh.
Can't wait to go back and try something new!

I tried this place for the first time on Friday... and it was AWESOME! I got some sushi rolls which were excellent! It is now my favorite place in Las Vegas for sushi. The teriyaki beef was also extremely good! And I definitely like the decoration and how the waitresses wear kimonos. Overall it was awesome.

I had to create a user account after realizing that the reviews for restaurants here in LV were severely lacking; also, with all due respect to those that have reviewed LV restaurants, particularly restaurants serving any type of asian food were, well, rather ludicrous. Having said that, though, I realize that everyone has different palettes and I'm in no way putting any other reviewers' experiences down.

I'm 30, hapa (1/2 caucasian, 1/2 japanese). Married. My wife is of Korean descent. We just moved here 8 months ago from the Bay Area, so we have been spoiled when it comes to all types of food, especially japanese, chinese, korean or thai.

Sushi Loca was a huge disappointment to us. The ambiance is nice. The price points for all of their items are respectable. We tried two of their special rolls (one was the salmon skin roll and the other a crab/unagi hybrid wrapped in a milky white rice paper(?) of some sort). I had the unajyu, or unagi donburi, and my wife had the chicken teriyaki box dinner. First off, I've never had sushi that was stuffed with shredded carrots and pickles. That was just...odd. The second of the aforementioned rolls was bathed in unagi sauce which I suppose was used to hide the flavor, or lackthereof, of the other ingredients. The miso soup was better than average at least, with solid chunks of tofu, and it was warm! *Cold miso is a pet peeve of mine, and you'd be surprised how many japanese restaurants these days serve it as such. The chicken teriyaki was fine, but nothing special. My unajyu was covered in green onion and tobiko. I've never seen it presented like that before. I enjoy both, but it's really unnecessary when presenting unagi donburi.

My wife and I are still on the prowl for a japanese restaurant we can call our own...we don't want to go to Sushi Roku every time we crave japanese food because it's hard to motivate to the Strip everytime.

Unfortunate 'thumbs down' for Sushi Loca.

Pros: Ambience, ample parking, fun setup.

Cons: Unnecessarily over-the-top in presentation, not real japanese food.

I am an Air Force brat who lived in Japan and have had a very difficult time finding a sushi place that I am overly fond of. Well this is the place! From the first step into this establishment I was impressed, great design, everyone yelling to welcome us and just a fun, inviting vibe going on. At first I was worried that with everything being so good initially, the food would be the low point. NOT TRUE! Best I've had in years! When I asked our friendly waitress how business was, she told me that it was not as busy as I assumed it would be. I blame a previous restaurant that was in the same building for running off potential clientele because it was horrendous. I usually don't go out of my way to do these kind of things, but I was so impressed I feel the need to share! Please check it out! You will not be let down!!

Ok, I'm 34 years old,, and had never tried sushi based on preconceptions of how awful it must be.. Well, after hearing how great it is from my girlfriend's parents,, I decided to try it out with an open mind..
To make a long story short,, the food I got at Sushi Loca was the best food I have EVER eaten PERIOD,,, its weird for me to say,, being an extremely picky eater,, but true.. Yes, better than the best steak, lobster, pizza,,,, Anything... I am officially hooked.. So hooked,, I took the time to write this review so others can see what they are missing..
Go in and try for yourself.!!!!!! I promise you will not be dissappointed.. I recommend the "Heart Attack" and "I Love My A$$"... I doubt there is anything bad at this place.. Enjoy..

I've been to my share of sushi places all around the valley, and I'm glad to say Sushi Loca has taken over as my #1 spot for sushi. I am originally from the LA area, where there are tons of awesome sushi restaurants. Vegas has some too, but they have been difficult to find. My former #1 for the longest time was on the Westside. That place was my standard, until now. Dining at Sushi Loca was one of the best sushi experiences I've had in a long while. Just as I walked in, I was greeted as if I were family, and they carried that attitude the whole night. They asked for my and my girlfriend's names, and they didn't forget. I saw they had some repeat customers from the community -- 2 different parties came in shortly after us -- and the staff remembered most of their names, which immediately told me they truly care about knowing their guests. I sat at the sushi bar, and I'm glad I did. The sushi chefs are some of the most lively, enthusiastic, and FUN chefs I've met. They make make it a point that you're having a good time, always cracking jokes, and they take good care of you. There was a family of 6 sitting next to us at the bar. They were having as much fun as we were. It reminded me of the enjoyment you have when you go to a Japanese tepan grill (but the chefs don't do tricks). And when you see the menu -- an experience itself -- you'll see it lives up to the restaurant's name. Crazy indeed! But don't let the names fool you. ALL the food is ON POINT. From the quality of the sushi & rolls, to the miso soup, to the salad, to the teriyaki chicken, to even the tempura ice cream for dessert, they are all about QUALITY.
I am no professsional food critic, but I am picky. Oftentimes the overall experience and atmosphere of a restaurant make up for lack of quality in the food. With Sushi Loca, however, they don't have to worry about that. You get genuinely fun, caring, community oriented service. And if that isn't enough to bring you back, the excellence of the food will.

My sister-in-law was visiting from Bogota and I wanted to take her out for lunch. I suggested a nice steak as Colombians are big meat eaters. The Montana Steak House is near to my home so I decided to make a quickrun. As I was nearing the steak house we saw a big sign "Sushi Loca". Her being hispanic was instantly amused by the name. She said " pare aqui" which means "stop here". "Look we can go loco eating some Sushi". I was game so we went in and was instantly greeted by a chorous from the staff. We were seated by a beautiful japanese young lady in kimono. The place looked really fabulous; the decor was modern Japanese with subdued reddish lighting. I instantly liked the place. The staff were all smiling and cheerful. We had "screaming ****** a tuna Sushi platter (I am not allowed to write the word in this review) because it got the attention of my sister-in-law. It was awesome; it tasted so good we had an extra platter. We sampled the yellow tail and gorged ourselves. I had fun trying to translate "I did your girlfriend" which was one of the menu items. Try Sushi Loca and you will not be disappointed. I will definitely go there again and try their incredible selections. This is a place worth checking out if you are a sushi lover. Sushi Loca is by Sams on Tropical Parkway in the NW area/ near the new Centenial Hills Hospital.

I was quiet surprised when I stumbled unto Sushi Loca after shopping at Sam's Club nearby. The sushi quality is one of the best I've ever tasted. But what sets this restaurant apart from all the rest in Vegas are the fun chefs that not only create the most scruptous sushi and outrageous rolls but the way they make you laugh and have fun. It's a great way to take a load off after a hard days work enjoying sake with your friends. It's about time Northwest Las Vegas have a place to have fun late at night.
