There is no way that anyone can convince me that someone from Texas is associated with this restaurant! We had eaten here a couple of times and it was okay. But recently we returned and as soon as we walked in we knew something was different....we should have walked right back out! I ordered sausage because they no longer had the frito pie that I loved and also ordered something called "burnt ends" thinking that I was going to get brisquit that had been over done...by the way I asked several people and they agreed that they thought the same thing.....just to let you know, "burnt ends" are ribs. The sausage was italian sausage.....WTH! I lived in Texas for six years and never have I ever walked into a bbq place and gotten italian sausage! My husband ordered brisquit....more than half of his plate consisted of fat. Fat should be trimmed not served to customers! This is a horrible restaurant. DON'T GO!!! Texas shouldn't even be associated with the name!

Pros: a place to sit

Cons: Awful food

.

what a great bbq place. wood picnic tables for seating, metal troughs full of iced drinks, a giant hi-tech smoker right in the dining area and flat screen tv's for the menu board.

it's super clean & very texas. the service is super-fast & friendly. faster than mcdonald's!! they bring your order out to you on a 2-liter coke flat with bbq sauce on the side. serve yourself drinks.

the brisket was super tender & juicy, you could taste the rub because they don't sauce it up-they leave that to you to decide. it was chopped real fine so you could add those little pieces that get away to your side dish!!the mac & cheese was great real cheesy but not baked.

i will definitely be returning to give everything on the menu a try

You will find yourself asking for napkins over and over again during your trip to CJ's. They are so good you cannot help yourself. I ate so much it hurt to move once i was finished. Meal was great, waitress was great and the bill did not hurt my wallet.

Don't listen to these haters! My experience was great. A lttle pricey, but no BBQ place in town is cheap. If you want cheap you will get cheap. This place wasn't! Their beef ribs are huge and cooked to perfection. I got the two meats two sides combo and was happy and full. The mac was creamy with a little peppery kick to it and the chili was awsome. They said it was made with the brisket which I also had in my combo. The brisket was sliced thin so if I wanted to I could have made a sandwich with it when they offered me bread, but I declined because I wanted the brisket by itself. For thirteen bucks, that's not bad at all. Next time I'll probably make a sandwich with it. The place was busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, even the staff, who by the way were polite and friendly. So if you want to be cheap, go to the store and get some pre-packaged ribs, go home and eat those, but if you want great flavor and a kick back atmosphere, give CJ's Texas Barbeque a try!

Pros: Great food!!!

Cons: The place should be bigger.

Some of the critical reviews below are way too harsh in my opinion. Perhaps they are from those that work at other BBQ joints? Sure, you shouldn't expect white linens and amazing service. In fact, if you decide to dine in you will seat yourself at one of the few picnic table benches, and use paper towels for napkins. However, isn't that how you are supposed to eat BBQ anyway? The relatively simple menu features pork and beef ribs, chicken, turkey and brisket as well as all the traditional side items. The beef ribs are BIG, and the pork ribs are a good size as well. The flavor is a little much on the smoky side for my taste, and I did notice a little more than usual fat on the ribs, but that did not deter the overall experience of some darn good meat! Also, they offer some killer BBQ sauce. Sure, the sides seem to come in smallish containers, but it's more than enough food. I will agree this place in not cheap, but for the few extra bucks you might spend compared to one of the national chains, you are getting some better quality BBQ. I say, give it a try!

Pros: Order food by the 1/4, 1/2 or full pound!

Cons: Picnic benches do not make the most comfortable dining experience.

When I first found CJ's I could not have been more happy!!!! Man was I totally let down!!! First off the place looks great inside and they sell real Big Red soda, a soda you can't get outside of Texas, but that?s where its stops!!! Everything else about this place S**KS!!!

SHAME on ANYONE who says this place has good Texas BBQ!!!

They are OVER PRICED!

Here is where I should have just walked out!!! When I ordered I asked them that I wanted a specific cut of brisket at which point they ALL looked at me like I was a F**KING NUT!!! What PI**ED me off even more was when I asked, one of the girls who was stocking snapped her neck around and looked at me with the stupid look on her face that a dog gets when he is trying to figure out whats up? Just to let you know in Texas at a real Texas BBQ joint you can ask for specific types of cuts of meat and you Will get them, HERE YOU WON'T!

So I ordered 3 meats all brisket, with one side of mac and cheese and an iced tea for a total of $13.00. The brisket tasted dirty which zero flavor, but was tender enough for my taste. The reason why it tasted dirty is because they smoke it with hickory wood. Real Texas brisket is made with mesquite wood, not hickory!!! The mac and cheese tasted like SH*T, I make Kraft mac and cheese better. The tea tasted dirty because they made the tea with unfiltered water!!! As for the way it is severed its comes on paper, this is what some Texas BBQ joints do, no big in that department.

So over all on a scale of 1 to 10 this place ranks a 2.

In Texas there is a BBQ joint called Bill Millers BBQ, they are all over Texas and are considered the fast food of Texas BBQ. In Texas it?s considered the worst BBQ you can eat in Texas, all Texans know this. However, Bill Millers dances circles around CJ's ANYDAY OF THE WEEK EVEN ON SUNDAYS!!!

My girlfriend and I went into CJ's after driving by a few times finding it to be an inviting looking place. Upon entering it was very evident of the lack of menu items and combo plates. The place had very basic menu items and hardly any side items. I wish I would have read the reviews before going because I was very disappointed. Being from the midwest, I have grown up eating bbq so it's hard to find anything worthwhile in Vegas. I had high hopes with this place but it was a total let down. I ordered a combo with beef and turkey and all i got was 3 small slices of each, a very tiny cup of mac & cheese, and a bag of chips with a 20 oz soda. It seemed as if I was at a cafeteria with the quality of food and poor setup. Definitely overpriced for the quality and quantity of food.

Being a native Texan for 20 years i stumbled upon CJ's with high expectations of (as the sign reads) "The Best BBQ outside of Texas". Upon being one of their first victims i noticed they had spent alot of money to make the establishment look very inviting, however the owner the staff and more importantly the food was outright sickening!!!! My wife and I ordered a brisket sandwich and a pork sandwich, we waited 25minutes only to be served sandwiches that reminded us of high school cafeteria food. They were overpriced, perhaps having to compensate for the plasmas they had in the restaurant. The food tasted as if though it had been reheated in a microwave. I would not recommend my worst enemy to eat this food, for the sickness my husband received as a gift from CJ'S was one we would like to have left behind. No wonder they state " Best BBQ outside of Texas" truth is DONT MESS WITH TEXAS BBQ, THEY GOT THE BOOT!!!!

Well, I saw the review on CJ's in the paper this morning, so I had to go try it out. I was born and raised in Texas. I have been smoking meats in the back yard for over 35 years. I have been to over a hundred different BBQ (Real Smoking of Meat) places in Texas and around the country. So I had to try CJ's. Sorry, but it was terrible. I ordered three meats to sample a variety and see if CJ's could smoke a good meat. I tried the brisket, ribs, and chicken. The brisket was tender, but had no smoke flavor. Obvioulsy they cook it in an electric smoker with little or no smoke. The ribs were tough and at least an 1/8 to 1/4 inch of solid fat on one side before you get to meat. When I broke apart the chicken, I thought I finally had found a meat they did good because it was juicy inside. Upon the first two bites, again I was disappointed. The meat was spongy to the teeth and the skin, which I love, was mostly brittle and I could not chew it. The bbq sauce's (two) were very disappointing as well. To CJ's credit, they do use rubs on their meat. But, the meats have no "REAL SMOKED" flavor. Forget the sides altogether. Not worth talking about. This place knows nothing about true Texas Smoked Meats.
I really think CJ's came from California; (where most people don't even know what briskett is), but surely not Texas. For the price I paid, I would have expected much much more. The lady from the Review Journal and also the lady she took with her from Texas have no idea what a great smoked meat and BBQ sauce are suppose to taste like. Maybe I should open a BBQ restuarant in Vegas and advertise that it comes from California? :) Would probably make a fortune.

I have no idea how anyone can say anything bad about CJ's. I am now living in Southern Calif and the only good BBQ is in the Crenshaw area if you want to take your life in your own hands. The best places for BBQ in LA are in area that most people will not roam. I make it a special point that I go to Las Vegas at least every other month and TJ's is the best of the best. Old Style BBQ from down south just like I used to get back east. If you want better then hopp on a plane for Cleveland or somewhere down south. The price is right and The family is making some of the best of the best in Las Vegas. Everyone I sent there is very pleased. The BBQ sause is what makes it great. CJ you are after my heart

We discovered CJ's after moving to the westside. I love BBQ, and have tried many of the spots around town. But I'd have to say, hands down, CJ's is the best! My favorite are the ribs. The meat is tender and falls off the bone. The beans are amazing. A little bit sweet, a little bit smoky. If you want great BBQ, friendly service...this is the place to go.

I came with high hopes and I was highly disappointed. I read the previous reviews, which weren't very favorable, but I had to try it. I should have listened to may fellow reviewers. I lived in Austin and Houston for 12 years and had many great BBQ joints (especially in Taylor, TX). Wish the food would have been as great as the hosts. The meat was dry, a bit to fatty and the ribs were mostly bone. I didn't try the sides, because they looked old. My friend did and he was disappointed. For amount of $ we were charged, you'd expect better food. It was a Saturday night and the place was empty...not a good sign. This is not Texas BBQ.

After hearing so many radio spots wife and i wanted to give it a try. Shocked to see EVERYTHING is a la carte, no combo plates, etc. Potato salad with your meat? Be prepared to shell out an additional 3 bucks!
Ribs were cold, tough and not very meaty, brisket was fatty & dry.... looked like it had been sitting around for a while. And no plates. Not even paper plates. They expect yu to eat off a piece of paper! We left without eating our meals and will never go back. This place will never make it! A shame too, because they obviously have invested a lot of $$$. In a nutshell, they are trying to McDonaldize a BBQ restaurant, but it just doesn't work.

We went to CJ's for dinner over the weekend. The BBQ was so tender and jucy. It is good to know that there is a new place in town instead of going all the way to the Strip. I had the beef brisket sandwich and my husband had the ribs. Very flavorful!! Don't forget to try the pecan pie! mmmm.....

CJ's BBQ is NOT good at all, nor is it even authentic TX BBQ (I am from TX). The brisket was SUPER tough and chewy and my knife could not cut through it at all. There was also tons of fat hanging on the sides. We also ordered turkey, which was cold and the pork was nothing special. They were sold out of most of the sides and everything was so overpriced especially considering the quality. I would not ever eat here again and would not recommend this place to anyone. They sell soda in bottles which say $.79, but they charge twice that much when you get to the register! I have heard Dave's BBQ is pretty good, but have never been myself.

I had such high hopes for CJ's......Lived in Texas for 20 years and I'm not sure where CJ is from but I'm sure this is not TEXAS BBQ. Customer service was nice. The prices were average. The meats (brisket, sausage, and ribs) were ok, but nothing to write home about. The sides.....nasty. The beans I wouldn't feed to my dog (no seasoning what so ever) and the corn I could have got out of the can...i'm sure they did. Have to admit the sause made those nasty beans almost eatable.....almost. Daves BBQ is still the best around here.
