Until tonight, everyone I have met or spoken with from the Headache and Pain center have been incredible. Dr. Bangston and Dr. Trout are awesome! I was very sad though when I called tonight to speak with the physician on-call, Dr. Frank Judilla. Working at a place that helps those in chronic pain, one would assume that empathy would be a trait looked for in the staff. Tonight, my brand new prescription was stolen from my very own bathroom by a member of our Intimate Encounter's group. This group, that has come together through my church (co-lead by my wife and I) purpose is to save marriages on the brink of divorce. Having been there ourselves, my wife and I volunteered to help others by sharing our home and story. Tonight, one of these individuals stole the medication that has allowed me to function, sleep, live, work...The stress of this violation has made me tense and my sciatic pain has increased rapidly. To top off the stress, I don't know if I should tell my wife or the group. I fear this could devastate the group and possibly a marriage. Needless to say, all of this stress has caused my back to spasm and I am laying here in excruciating pain..I know I won't be sleeping tonight and have already missed 5 days of work in the last month. My hope in calling the on-call physician was to get something called in to last me through the night so I could sleep and then follow up with the wonderful Dr. Bangston tomorrow. I felt that Dr. Frank Judilla did not listen to me. He stated the obvious like 5 times before hanging up on me ("you should call Dr. Bangston in the morning" .... um? duh!). They guy didn't listen to me, didn't even attempt to try and offer any solutions to the problem at hand (I can't fall asleep when the pain of knife jabs are going down my leg). I am not a drug-seeker (in fact I hate having to take medication to function), I yearn for the day to be drug free. I have never lost or had stolen or needed an early refill. I just need some relief tonight so I can get some much needed rest. Maybe this doctor has never experienced pain or maybe he considers it rude for a patient to call when they are desperately in need of help. I wasn't being pushy or loud but calmly trying to explain my situation and he could only repeat "call in the morning" to me 5 times before hanging up while I was in mid-sentence. I feel so dehumanized right now as I lay here in pain. Thank God for doctors like Bangston and Trout, and receptionist like Linda, and all the nursing staff at Truman East Pain Center - these people actually listen and care for you. Shame on you Dr. Judilla - I am sure if I was your son or daughter you would have listened, considered, and cared a little more. You need to be held accountable for how you treat people. Please remember...you ARE treating PEOPLE.
