I have been taking lessons here and absolutly love it. I have learned alot and i was a nervous rider and worked through it. This farm does wonderful things such as lessons with disabled people, rescues animals, halloween party open to the public and more. I would suggest this farm to anyone. I have never had a bad experience.

Business Response:

Thanks Jess its been our pleasue to watch you grow as a rider!
.

I am an experienced adult rider and was looking for a place to take some winter jumping lessons to tune up my jumping skills ?? the following is what I got:

# 1 the place is a dump and they have way too many horses ?? in my opinion more than they can handle

I walk in and a woman says ??here??s your horse all tacked up & ready to go?

I specifically had asked if they let students tack their own horse and she had told me yes.

Me: ??can you tell me something about the horse please??

Instructor: ??he??s the most dead broke school horse, etc. etc. his name is Romeo?

Ok fine. We go into the ring.

Instructor: ??ok tighten your girth and get on? and she walks away. SO I tighten the girth and I need a mounting block because he??s about 16 hands! So I ask for one and she gets it.

Ok I??m on!

I walk him around a couple of rounds

Instructor: ??I want a working walk; I want him sweating at a walk!?

ummm ok can I get to know the horse for 3 minutes please?

We walk a couple of rounds and she says to ask for a trot. I squeeze with my legs ?? nothing ?? I kick him ?? nothing so I ask for a crop. She says ok and gives me a crop. I ask him to trot again in the same manner, get nothing and then tap him with the crop behind the saddle ??

Instructor: ??NO NO NO!!!! Hit him on the shoulder!? WHAT???? Ok if you say so!

So I ask again in the same manner before hitting him, nothing so I hit him in the shoulder with the crop repeatedly and he??s still walking around like nothing is happening ?? okay we got a safe horse here!!! Well safe except for the fact that he??s kicked out at least 3 times now out of frustration from probably being beaten and Oh was that a little half a buck I felt? Hmmm maybe. Good thing I??m not a nervous rider!

Me: ??I??m a little frustrated because I would really prefer a horse that would just move off my leg?

Instructor: ??you??re not asking right!?

Oh so squeezing with my leg, kicking and then beating him half to death isn??t enough! Okay if you say so. (psycho)

Okay were trotting, and a nice trot really once I get him moving.

Instructor: ??okay were going to do some turns now?

She puts up two poles parallel to each other and wants me to turn in and go through them like an alley. Okay no problem. ?? Except that this horse doesn??t turn when you ask with your outside leg and try to push him through the turn so he keeps going.

OH NO HERE SHE COMES!

Instructor: ??stop right there!!!? ??I want you to turn this horse around right here without making a circle?

Me: ??do you want a haunches turn or a forehand turn??

Instructor ??oh, umm ?? you decide?

So I do a haunches turn and it was quite nice actually!

Instructor: ??WRONG!?

Excuse me?

Instructor: ??drop your outside rein completely, use your outside leg and pull him around with the inside rein!?

Oh So basically pull him around by his mouth. So I do it and it works but the poor horse!

Me: ??can I please explain something?? She says yes and I proceed to explain to her that I have always been taught to push a horse through a turn not pull him around by his face.

Instructor: ??well that??s wrong?

uh yeah ok! (psycho)

So now I??m trotting and making the turns the way this poor horse has been taught to do it and that??s fine and we finish the lesson. Now that I know how he??s been trained I can ride him.

Meanwhile, during my lesson there have been 3 different horse and riders in and out of the ring. The first, a nice palomino who is spooking at everything and apparently just got there yesterday.
That one leaves, the same kid comes back in on another horse, and this one is okay except the kid who is maybe 12-14 years old is whining because the horse is too forward and won??t stop to ??let me the F off? (only she said the F word!) nice language kid ?? you kiss your mother with that mouth?! Psycho tells her to wait and she??ll help her, gee that??s nice of her!

The lesson is done and psycho tells me I did a good job once I ??started riding the horse?

Whatever.

Instructor: ??same time next week??

Me: ??sure see you then? and I leave thinking to myself that I really should have told her to go F herself but I wanted to take it all in and talk to some people first before I formed my opinion completely.

I thought about it and I??ve formed my opinion ?? do you think I??ll go back? ?
