Jeff C (wayne-dalton misconception),
Dude, you are either out of your mind, or you work for Wayne Dalton. I literally laughed out loud when you said "there is not one door that is better than another." Following that logic, you are basically saying that a Pinto is equivalent to a Maserati. Wayne Dalton manufactures the biggest pieces of crap available. For those interested in buying a garage door, consider the fact that Wayne Dalton's specs don't even qualify to be on over half of DASMA's minimum requirements. If you put ten pounds of pressure behind a butterknife, it will puncture the steel. While Wayne Dalton does manufacture commercial doors that are actually good, the residential line, besides some of their wood doors and their aluminum doors are garbage. Homebuilders don't use them because they are good, they use them because they are cheap. Oh, and when you have a panel dent, prepare to pay 70% of the cost of a new door. What a joke. They sell the door cheap, but parts are ridiculous. While there is truth to the fact that no matter what door you install, it needs to be done right; I just shake my head when a homeowner calls WD about the warranty, and after 2 years of use, the sections are cracked. The response is "was the opener installed 1" about door?" It turns out it is 2", "well, that is installed incorrectly." I could go on and on. Ask any garage door guy, besides Jeff C, and they will tell you they don't use WD because they are good, it's because they are cheap and fast to install. Think about this, a 16X7 9100 weighs 70 lbs. A CHI2283 weighs 225 lbs. C'mon Jeff C.

I had 3 wayne dalton doors installed (professionally) in my garage and two out of three seemed to do okay, but one cracked, and all this stuff about it being caused by garage door openers is a bunch of baloney, they used to light a gauge of metal, it's a poor design with a high failure rate, my door cracked nowhere near the garage door opener, it was the second panel up from the bottom that cracked, Interestingly enough they warrantied it after almost 3 years. But yes in my opinion the doors I bought were pretty cheap both in cost to me and material and workmanship.

Giving it 1 star is WAY too high.

WD Door absolute piece of junk. It was installed by a contractor in my townhome 5 years ago. POS bent like a crushed beer can in the top middle of the door. My model has 4 windows at the top. All the glass came crashing out. It was a huge mess and I'm lucky no one was hurt.

When I called a company to have it repaired, the guy said that it was the 20th WD door he had seen THIS YEAR with the exact same problem.

When I called WD the "gentleman" I talked to, Steve, said that there is no warranty on a door that has a garage door opener used with it. That's ridiculous, who doesn't use a garage door opener these days? They DO NOT stand behind their product. No warranty, nothing.

Listen, I have been installing Wayne-Dalton doors for over 10 years now. The doors are great. The problem that people have with garage doors very rarely stems from a design flaw in the garage door. Garage doors have been around for ever and they are VERY simple. I dont think anyone is still trying to "work out the kinks" on any garage door. ANY door, no matter what the brand is only as good as the installer that put it in. THIS is where the problems stem from-not the door. The people who's sections are "folding in half in the middle". I can gaurantee you that your garage door opener is mounted too high-Guarantee. This causes 99% of the problems when homeowners install their own openers. ( the opener should sit no more that 1 inch above the door when it is opened. As for the top bracket ripping off- there is no reason the amount of force required to do that should exist on that door. The springs should be lifting every pound of that door and it should take no force at all to open it. These people have a door that doesnt run very well for any number of reasons. These are not product flaws. the doors are GREAT. make sure you have them installed by a professional and make sure the door is easily opened with 2 fingers before they leave. I would not install a product that would require me to come back for free over and over again in order to fix- it doesnt make sense. I have installed more than 10,000 of these doors in all models and have had to go back on maybe 10. (these usually turned out to be a problem with the garage door opener -photo eyes and such that had nothing to do with the door) again, if these doors are installed correctly (make sure you check before they leave) you will have no problem. Also be warned, just because the garage door company send an installer over- it doesnt make him an experienced pro- There is a lot of turnover in this industry and many companies are struggling to find young guys who will stick with it and learn to install doors properly. make sure your door runs well before he leaves this may be his first ir second install. I admit when I was first learning the trade, I installed some doors that ran pretty poorly- it wasnt the doors fault- it was mine. but I learned. and yes, the warranty is void if you install an opener yourself. 75% of homeowners will install them too high or incorrectly, thats a fact, and a good reason for Wayne-Dalton not to fork out cash for a door that is not defective. Hoope this helps ward off some of the misconceptions out there. Any door out there will work everything is installed correctly. there isnt really one door thats better than another. Check out the prices, and features and see what suits you. The only reason a door should have to be warrantied is because something went wrong with the install- I have never seen a door "wear" out, so dont stress too much on the warranty. (except for wood doors- steer away from them and dont get me started on wood doors. There are perfectly good steel doors that provide the look of wood doors nowadays without the problems or huge price tags..check them out- you dont want wood. :-) Hope this helps!!

I will never use another garage door made by Wayne Dalton. I had a door bend at the top panel due to the poor design in the opener bracket. I followed the instructions with the door and still had to replace my door after 2 months of operation. I was told by Wayne Dalton that I must have done it wrong and the warrenty is not going to replace it. I even took pictures to show them how it was installed and they will not even give me the time of day. Not a good design at all.

I have been a contractor for over 20 years and have never had a problem with any of the dozens of garage doors I have in stalled, until I started using wayne dalton door. The system they use to connect the bracket for the door opener is a joke.
There is no support bracket to spread the load out. I have had to replace 3 doors due to the opener bracket ripping out or even the top panel bending and breaking. All I did was get a run around from the rep from wayne dalton. They sell the door but will not stand behind them. I have now switched back to another brand that I have used for years and never had an issue with. I should have know better than to try a new brand.

I purchased a 9x7 Model 9100 Wayne Dalton three years ago. I used the operator mounting bracket provided and mounted it per their instructions. The area on the top panel where the operator mounting bracket attaches to the door completely broke out. Guess what, not covered by their POS warranty. Very poor design, very poor customer service. Never own one again. Local servicing dealer claims a lot of similar problems with their doors.

I purchased a home with a Wayne Dalton 8000 series door. Yes, this is "contractor" grade. The 16 foot door, unless reinforced using additional u-channel sections can cause the panel sections to crack. They crack where the screws fasten the panels to the vertical supports. The reason they crack is 1) the screws holes cause a stress concentration, and 2) the weight of the door and the 16 foot span cause to great of a load. This is an inherent design flaw.

Excited, because I read Wayne Dalton Doors have a 10 year warranty and my door is only 6 years old, I called up Wayne Dalton in P-town. BOGUS. If you install an operator, what we laymen call a garage door opener to the door, the warranty is void. In addition, their warranty only covers the original homeowner.

A reputable door company in Seattle, a distributor, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, that I NOT replace the door with another Wayne Dalton due to historically poor warranty service, AND this problem. What is being done "in the field" is to add additional channel support sections on each garage door panel, which is great if you want the inside of your door to look like a ladder.

Buyer's Beware, this door was installed in the home when I purchased it. As of Tuesday, Wayne Dalton will be a distant memory. Good Riddance.

The Wayne-Dalton door company has very high quality overhead doors. My contractor uses them all the time. There are wayne dalton doors in my house right now.
