Fire on the Mountain on NE Interstate has an amazing selection of wings. As many flavors as you can imagine. It's prepared fresh, so it's not super fast, but it's worth it.

I would rather go to Buffalo Wild Wings because it is cheaper, the sauces taste better, and they have boneless wings. This is a good place to get take out from and is worth going to at least once just to experience it.

first off, do not order the 'el jefe' sauce. i eat spicey food quite a lot, but this sauce is just extreme. i think it's mostly a gimick.

the wings (wing pieces) are good but not spectacular. the sauces, except el jefe, are all good. the fries are good but somewhat greasy.

the pricing is a bit high for wings. when we went last, 6 wings cost about 8 bucks. that's a bit ridiculous, especially considering a wing is really a wing 'piece' - only one part of a wing. seems deceptive. two roasted real wings at my local grocer cost about 1 buck. sure, no ambience at the grocer, but this gives an idea of cost range for FOTM.

Pros: wings are ok

Cons: too expensive

I was very disappointed with this joint. The waitress was so rude when we ordered, I thought she was joking - when we asked what kind of beer they had she pointed to a sign and said read-it's right there.
The Food - Wings were ok - I have had better - much better. I ordered the Portabello Sandwich and it was bland - like eating cardboard. The only way I would go back would be a free dinner for me and 20 of my closest friends - which won't happen - get the point?

Pros: Windows with great view - so you can plan your escape route when your party is done

Cons: Service and food

Being vegetarian and having the occasional hot wing craving I usually don't have a place to ease my needs. However, their veg nuggets (Portland style wings) with Hot or Medium sauce was legendary! Each mouthful brought sweat beads and tingling sensation throughout my body. It was divine! The crispy texture of the nuggets and creamy blue cheese dressing was a perfect merriment. My non-veg head husband, had the blue cheese and bacon burger and cleaned his plate in just a few minutes. The sweet potato fries were better than Burgerville (can I say that?!). Sweet and salty friend goodness is always welcomed in my belly. We've gone back one more time since December. Yum.

Pros: quality, price, options

Cons: not in my neighborhood

I tell ya what...47 states and 7 provinces of canada and these are the best wings I have ever came across.
Mouth watering lipsmacking goodness. Takes a bit to get the food..It was so good who cares. The deep fried mushrooms are awsome, and the tots crisp. The wings..well boy howdy I could eat them three meals a day. Hot crispy and sauce so good i almost licked the serving basket. end it off with a deep fried twinkie and nervana. I know I am going back.

Pros: Good food, cool lil dive, witty staff, darn good chow.

Cons: I can't eat there everyday.

Lots of sauce choices, chicken wings are good. Vege wings are good too. Chicken sandwiches good and juicy. Fries are awesome!! Lots of choices on sauce. Interstate location more homey and service was good.

I have been here enogh to know not to expect decent service...last time (which will be my last time), my order, after 35 minutes, was given to the wrong table (who gladly accepted it because it was twice the size of the order they paid for)...then after asking about it, they told me they would have to remake them...after another 25 minutes they brought my order short 12 wings...when I mentioned this (which I had to wait in line 15 minutes to do) I was told it would be another 20-25 minutes to get the rest of my order...I left...furious at the apathy

My husband and I have searched far and wide for a good wing place in the greater Portland area. Fire on the Mountain has exceeded our expectations. My husband is a die hard breaded wing fan, but the wings here really won him over. They come out crispy on the outside, juicy in the center with a wide array of sauces to choose from. They have little cups of each sauce flavor on their counter with celery so you can try the flavors before you pick one (or several).

I don't eat wings too often, but when I do these are the only ones I eat. Perfectly cooked, nice and crispy, and tons of sauces to choose from. Personal favorite is the thai peanut, or whatever it's called. They also have veggie wings, granted it's just those gardenburger chik'n nuggets, but you still get to experience the delicious sauces. If you're looking for something healthy on the menu, though don't know why you'd go to a wing joint expecting healthy, they do have pretty good salads. I also love their sweet tea, good ol' porch sittin tea with tons of sugar. Highly recommend this place.

My S.O. and I went over to FOTM to meet up with a friend. I have been going to FOTM for many years now and love their wings and especially their Spicy Peanut Sauce... I find it funny reading the message below that the person complained most of the food was unhealthy. Who goes to a wing joint and expects healthy food? What do you think they only serve poached chicken breast. Give me a break. I love wings and this place is the greatest wing joint in Portland!!!

Anyway, we ordered 48 wings, with 48 you get 4 sauces so we ordered, Spicy Peanut, Ethiopian, Jamaican Jrk and Bourbon Chipotle. The peanut sauce will always be my favorite (I always have a jar of it in my fridge at home... it is great on salads and with shrimp) but the Ethiopian would be a very close second. So tasty and so delicious and clearly deeply thought out as to how it would taste on wings.

I must say that every time my S.O. and I come to Portland we dine at FOTM and this last week was the first time I was able to broach the 20 piece mark. I am quite proud of myself... Although when we told our friend's girlfriend, she said, and I quote "25 wings.... pift... that's not that many" ha... and our buddy said " but, including the sauce, we'll thats quite a feat" but anyway... I don't mean to brag, I am just trying to communicate how great these wings are!!!

Oh yeah, and the wings travel well. They have the perfect to go containers that hold the sauce and wings together nicely, also the wings re-heat pretty well too. But I would not keep for longer than a fay as the skin starts to get a bit soggy..

Pros: Great Wings, Great Sauce, Great Tots, Great Beers

.

Most of the food was very unhealthy. Deep fried twinkies or pickles, Chicken wings. I ordered the "spicy peanut paste" it's anything but spicy, it consisted of cold spaghetti noodles with some very bland peanut sauce. The help are impatient, rude, and loiter outside the restaurant on the curb smoking cigarette's... Might as well forget it if your vegetarian.

Pros: won't make this mistake twice.

Cons: Bad service, food, and parking...

I went to the Burnside location, apparently they have become successful enough to begin branching out. I really would like to review the food there, but since I was unable to get served, I cannot. I came in on a fairly regular Sunday afternoon (Apr 29 about 1:00pm), not a big line and there were several tables open. I ordered a beer and a chicken sandwich. I did not think that was an especially difficult thing to make. I was mistaken.

After 30 minutes, I asked about my order and was assured that it was coming. After 45 minuets, and no food, I left. Since folks around me had come and received their orders after me, I could not see any reason to think mine was a problem, but apparently not.

I can tell you that they have an small but OK beer selection on tap, not inspired, but something other than Bud is available. They do have a number of free weekly papers to read while waiting for food, though they might want to add more selections as I ran out of things to read. Perhaps the NY Sunday Times would be appropriate to read waiting for an order. Puzzles and games might also be appropriate to pass the time.

Pros: Beer

Cons: Poor service

Apparently, according to some of these reviews, sometimes it takes a long time to get your food at Fire on the Mountain. I have never had a problem but this shouldn't matter too much anyway. If you are starving and need to eat right this instance, go get some fast food or head to TGIFridays.
FOTM is a place to relax, have a beer with friends, and unwind. If you need food quicker, get some amazing friend pickles or cajunize some fries (this goes great with the banana sauce at the table) while you wait for absolutely the best wings you will ever have. Top that off with an Amnesia or a Hub and mix in some conversation with friends and you won't believe how quickly those wings come. It is also recommended to relax and converse before the food comes because every time I go here, once those wings are on the table, everyone is silent.
The sauces are amazing. I recommend the Spicy Peanut and Raspberry Habanero for those who want to try something different. The El Hefe tastes great before the heat sets in and for those traditionalists out there the Mild-Very hot selection is top notch.
Excellent food, excellent atmosphere, excellent place to go with a group. Just don't rush yourself or you will miss it.

I moved to PDX from Texas 4 years ago and had nowhere to go for wings. When the Interstate location opened up, I thought I had found my final resting place (that has since moved to the Burnside location, because it will be easier for my friends to drag my body there). The enormous wings are cooked perfectly every time. The sauces are fantastic. I used to be a "buffalo style" purist, but the non traditional sauces here have converted me. I've eaten just about every wing in town, and nothing holds a candle. The only thing that would make FOTM better is if they were open when I get off of work (late nights). I think it's safe to say that I am a fan of wings, as I have one tattooed on my arm.

To the guy ranting about hippies in his post - just because someone doesn't realize that YOU are the most important person in the world, it does not make them a "hippie" or "sloth like." The owners are awesome and I've always enjoyed the staff - they have never been anything but friendly to me (however, I'm not a douche). Portland is a layed (apparently spelling this word correctly is inappropriate on citysearch) back town (for now, god help us if this guy gets his way) and the service at most places is somewhat slow. It's ok to slow down in life and take the time to enjoy yourself and those around you.

Whoever said the Buffalo Lime Cilantro was not good is CRAZY! This is the sauce they should be bottling. It transcends wings. I'd like to see the Ethiopian as part of the permanent selection of sauces.

I will agree about charging for sides of sauce. I will ask for a side of sauce if my wings aren't wet enough and have been charged a couple of times by newer employees. The ones who know me, usually don't, however.

Pros: Greatest wings ever, good local beers, fried pickles, awesome tots, nice peeps

Cons: not open very late, I still can't walk there (FOTM on Division in '09?), can't always get ethiopian

.

We went to this restaurant because of all of the great reviews. My husband loves wings, he liked the many choices. Beware vegetarians: I went because they claimed to have vegetarian wings and I thought that would be great! They turned out to be store bought soy chicken nuggets, a brand most vegetarians will recognize. That was dissapointing, but the sauce was good. Ok food, but not worth the drive from Oregon City.

After moving to Oregon almost 9 years ago, I left behind me ( In AZ) one of the great wing places I had ever found. I had yet to find a place that could match or even come close here in Portland. My bother and I visited FOTM Burnside location a few nights ago. Let me tell you.....not only was I impressed but, they blew my favorite spot right out of the water. Yeah, you have to wait a bit...but it was soooo worth it. We got: Chipotle Bourben, Lime Cliantro, and Medium. Each flavor was unique and down right yummy. Glad we got that pitcher of beer to go with it....a little spicy too. I will definately be back and I've already told as many people I can to go there! My hat is off to you FOTM! You've made me a fan.

Pros: Flavors & the fact that this is the ONLY good wing spot in PDX

Cons: Not one thing!!!

.

We were ABSOLUTLY impressed. So much better than "other popular wing places new to town" (not that these could compair!) wings. the sauce had flavor and the wings were not dripping with grease. nice enviroment, service was great, and the food was excellent. The fries rocked! We will be back for sure with friends and family. Really not sure what other posters were talking about, but we had a great experience today.

Went here for the first time last week, and ordered a dozen wings and a beer. went back again last night. i have tried a lot of wings in this town, and these are awesome. good size, great texture, perfect spicy-ness, great sauces and friendly atmosphere. they let you try all the sauces with celery at the counter, so you can find whatcha like. the jamaican flavor and medium were very good. prices are comparative to other wing places. not sure what others are talking about with service issues, but i went to the one on burnside, so maybe the service is better there.

I'm one of the owners of FOTM Buffalo Wings. We welcome constructive criticism. You can contact us on our website at www.portlandwings

Most of these reviews are positive, some are not, some are factually wrong and some come from people with anger issues. The one guy who keeps talking about lazy hippies has some serious personal issues and would probably be happier living in a different state. Truth be told the majority of the staff could care less about the Grateful Dead.

And the person who said they found a chicken foot in their food most likely found the tip of the wing. Some wing joints keep the tip on the wing. English pubs sell wings like this. Once in a while a wing will slip through the cracks with a tip though we try our best to prevent this. Please keep constructive criticism coming.

The staff treated my girlfriend and I like we were bad people. I thought tipping 40% at the register was a good thing. They charge you when you order not after. I'm a bartender and I don't think I've ever treated people like I was treated here. By the way, you can spend 30 bucks on wings, fries, and drinks, but they still charge you a dollar for a very small ramekin of blue cheese or ranch. Yes, I was not given a sauce for the wings or fries. At least they are nice. If you do go, try the peanut sauce. It was tasty. The jefe sauce is hot and tasty. The buffalo lime cilantro=not tasty.

I was really excited about the opening of the new "Fire on the Mountain" on Burnside and 17th. I placed an order for takeout, and waited...and waited...and waited. And in the meantime I watched the people in the working in the place bumbling and appearing clueless about how to make things run efficiently. The wings were...okay. But not worth the wait and terrible service.

Cons: Horrible service.

I went in on an early saturday afternoon for a quick wing fix. I've had the wings before and they have always been good. The problem with this place is the hippies that run it and their miserable service. The place was not busy and yet I waited at the register for eight minutes while the slothlike server washed dishes and did other general cleaning about five feet away. I attempted to make myself noticed with no success and watched as another customer who arrived after me left in disgust. In short I left feeling like an idiot for having bothered.
These lazy hippies need to take a crash course in customer service. Shame on these hippies.

My husband went and picked up some wings to go last night and I still have the heebie jeebies from what he found in the box ... amidst his wings was a deep-fried, saucy chicken FOOT, claws/talons and all! It was disgusting to say the least and my poor husband immediately didn't feel well. I was eating something completely different and also lost my appetite. We would expect this type of carelessness/nastiness from the restaurant with the short shorts and white and orange t-shirts (apparently the spell checker here doesn't like the actual name of that restuarant - picky!) or any other tacky chain restaurant, but not from this little hole in the wall that so many people rave about. We have no affiliation to this restaurant and will not be back again.

Pros: None.

Cons: We had a chicken foot in our order - need we say more?

Moved to Portland a year ago from the East and I searched and search, someone told me about "Fire" and I am so "Grateful" Spent the last 5 mo in Scotland and I can't wait to get my fix on the MNT.

Thanks for a great atmosphere and wonderful food and beer. When are you going to open another one?

I travel to the Portland area a few times a year on business and heard "rave" reviews about this place. On my first visit in May of 2007, I trudged on over and ordered a dozen of the peanut wings and 6 El Hefe and was told it would be a 15 minute wait. Nearly 40 minutes later some uber hipster with Buddy Holly framed glasses plopped down a tray of the most unappetizing wings I've seen in my life. They looked to be steamed and not fried and drowned in some weak peanut sauce. The first bite was horrible... Properly cooked wings should have a bit of a crunch to them and this was like biting into wet newspaper. I ate a few and tossed the rest in the trash. The El Hefe wings I will admit were very hot. I imagine the folks there try to hide the fact that they can't fry a wing by soaking the wings in sauce.

I gave them a second shot on Nov. 16th and found the wings to be just as horrid as the first visit and the service worse. I was told 20 minutes and *AN HOUR* later the same poorly cooked wing arrived. One bite and into the trash they went. I didn't try any other food aware that the consider their wings the "signature" food of the restaurant. So anything else I my opinion would be just as bad... If not worse.

Bad food and equally bad service. I the employees would spend as much time learning how to cook properly as they do on trying to be hipsters, they might make improvements. But I doubt it.

Most orders of wings in bars and taverns and restaurants these days are pretty gross. The drumettes are tiny and nasty tasting after processing and freezing and etc.The nasty sticky gooey sweet sauce is all you can taste and good thing too. They microwave rock hard wings and then dump gunk on them.Yummy.
Fire on the Mountain uses FRESH raw wings.Deep fries them to perfection then tosses them in home made sauces, just as God intended.I love this place.Good folks.Laid back.Great food and good prices. They even have Rainier Beer on tap.A pitcher is less than a pint of craft beer and worx better for cleansing the palate to taste the different sauces. You should go.

It seemed like I was never going to find wings that could compare to East Coast wing joints. But I did - in Portland. The joint has many different wing sauce choices and you can even try before you buy. Our party dined on mild, medium and sweet BBQ. Also, the sweet potato fries were so good! The bar is small but very unique with an atmopshere fit for wingeaters. The beer was also great! We originally couldnt find the place, as it was a little outside town, but we are glad we kept on driving!

Fire on the Mountain has awesome food, great beer. I am hooked on their wings and fries. However, it is tiny, and the prices seem high.

Went here for the first time the other day. As I entered, the wait staff passed me three times and never even made eye contact, let alone greeted me. Eventually I just grabbed a table, since apparently they didn't want to direct me to a specific spot. I then sat there 5-10 minutes, with again the wait staff passing me, until I noticed the sign above the register saying to "order here." I placed my order at the counter and the credit receipt had a big place to put in a tip. Since I seated myself, and had to place my order at a counter, I did not tip, which drew a noticeable reaction from the clerk.

The wings were okay. Sauce selection is exceptional I will say that, with 12 or so sauces to chose from, all of which you can sample beforehand, which is great. The wings themselves are average. Personally, I think you can get a better cooked wing at a couple of the chain stores.

Beer selection was okay, but could be larger. I would like to see a bit more, expecially since wings and beer pretty much are a 1-2 combination. The options for darker beer were the most slim. I tried the cherry stout, which was horrible. Avoid it like the plague.

This place can cook a wing! The sauces are consistent, yummy, and generous. The peanut sauce is a divine gift, and I recently broke out of my routine and ordered the j.e.r.k. sauce, which was scrumptious (best with ranch instead of blue cheese dressing). The standard buffalo sauce will also rock your face off.

I really have a hard time with spicy foods so when my boyfriend wanted to try it I was hesitant. We went to order and there were twelve different bbq sauces to try! So I dipped a celery stick in a couple and found they had mild good tasting sauces! Then of course really hot sauces! My boyfriend tried the hottest sauce- and literally almost turned red. The waitress and I both held our laughter to spare him the embarassment!

Good wings and great deal for a pitcher of rainier beer!!

There are only a few things that I miss from the midwest...thunderstorms, fall and hot wings. Fire on the Mountain helped with one out of the three. It is great to have a hot wings place that also caters not only to the meat lover, but also the vegitarian with their meatless hot wings (so Portland).
I am a big fan of the HOT wing and Fire on the Mountain left me satisfied with their "el hefe" sauce...not for the faint of heart. Don't worry, there are plenty of options for those with an adversion to the heat.

Thanks for helping me feel at home.

After reading all reviews on this place I had to try it,I noticed most reviews were about BBQ sauce and not much about true Buffalo style(hot).I tried all sauces and was not impressed with the heat level,Habanero sauce only burns and takes away flavorings of the food.I went with the "soon to be famous" spicey peanut sauce. It tasted o.k. but was too sweet and not spicey like Thai peanut sauce,as I hoped for.The service was great and friendly, but I got mine to go due to limited seating. There is no parkiing available and if you sit outside,be prepared for the busy street traffic on Interstate Ave.

Was walking down the end of the drive,
Minding my business when it struck me 'tween the eyes
I'd sure love me some chicken wings.
That saucy tang is sure one of those things
Make you glad to be alive.

Mild, extra hot, raspberry habanero
A dozen, 2 I'd be good to go
3 would make the tears start to flow
Lord Lord, I do love those wings of buffalo.

Deep fried in oil and grease
Smothered in that fiery sauce
Going down smooth with a cold pint o' beer
Roots red would do, would even drink rainier
Lord, those wings would bring me such peace.

Mild, extra hot, raspberry habanero
A dozen, 2 I'd be good to go
3 would make the tears start to flow
Lord Lord, I do love those wings of buffalo.

Next day I'd feel that burn in my gut
Just waiting for that cheese to cut
All I can blame is li'l ole me
Nobody's fault but my own gluttony
Well son, I know how to get outa that rut.

I was so tired of Hooters and thier average wings. This place Rocks. The Spicy Peanut Sauce is excellent. The fries are awesome and you have to try the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. Highly recommeded. Small place, but well worth the visit.

This place can't be beat. These wings are the best I've had (and I've tried lots). I like that you can mix/match the sauces for every 6 wings (and that you can sample them beforehand) My favorite sauce--extra hot. The El Jefe will bring you to your knees. If you're looking for something new, try the spicy peanut. Even the mild has heat--a requirement for true "Buffalo Wings". Service is a bit slow at times--and it can get crowded; but all in all well worth it.

We've been to Fire On the Mountain at least 5 times now. It is great. There is food for children to eat (noodles and yummy french fried sweet potatoes are my 2 yr old daughter's favorites). The wings are nice and crispy and flavorful. I love the sweet bbq...I could eat 2 dozen in one sitting if my body didn't yell STOP first! The atmosphere is pleasantly casual...brightly painted, clean, and no-nonsense. I definitely recommend checking it out!

This is the best place around Portland to have good wings. I myself watch my eating, but cannot stop eating the wings when I'm there... Not as fast as a regular wing place and you'll need to wait for your wings once you order. Sometimes it's really crowded and hard to find a place at the restaurant, but you can always take it home... I don't thing that it's that pricey... (It's not kfc or hooters, after all...)

I eat wings like nobody. I think I've tried them all in Portland- over cooked, under spiced, over priced, under cooked... I've finally found my new favorite spot in Portland to devour. (I think I eat there twice a week-scary)
These folks can cook chicken.
Forget dressing up, it's extremely casual and darn clean for a saucy meat joint. I think there's a selection of 10-15 types of wings. My fav being the sweet bbq.
It's sorta pricey ($9-12pp), but then again good food is worth the extra $3 bucks.
We crave their food and not the service (its a bit unenthusiastic.)
But just go. Just try the food. We order it for take out.
