Best bar food ever!!! In fact I wouldn't consider it bar food exactly more like homestyle or deli. Sure it takes forever, but I think that's because he is stoned and being very meticulous.

Tonight I went in to the pub to get a soda. I no longer drink. The bar tender lady treated me like I was a piece of trash for having the audacity to enter there without having a desire to order beer or wine. She rudely said "we are a beer and wine only place." I left shortly thereafter. I guess the bottom line is this: If you go to bars but prefer not to drink, avoid the unfriendly and rude Pub At the End of the Universe.

Pros: beer if you like beer

Cons: If you don't want alcohol they don't want you there. Also it was very smokey

One of the best things about this place is the types of people that usually hang out there. You won't find groups of loud, obnoxious, drunk frat boys hitting on every woman that moves, intimidating others, etc. (Well, I've been there about 10 times, as it is within a few blocks "stumbling distance" of my place, and haven't seen that type yet).

I usually go to play pool, and the 7-foot, 50-cent bar tables are pretty decent -- though some shots are very cramped due to not enough room. The rails are good quality and the felt is in relatively good condition. There's a higher quality 8-foot table on the upper level, though it costs a quarter more each play. On Sundays they have a little pool tournament, if enough people (6+) show up. It's usually $4 to play and double-elimination style (so if you lose once you're not immediately out). Winner takes all if it's around 6-15 playing (no cut for the house). The players are above average, but not pros/sharks, which makes it fun for intermediate players.

Despite the one [at the time of this review] negative review about very poor service, I've always been impressed with the bartenders. They are always friendly and willing to give you change in quarters. And one more thing every bar should do: they have cups and water for self-service, so you don't have to bother the bartender for free water.

Best bar food ever!!! In fact I wouldn't consider it bar food exactly more like homestyle or deli. Sure it takes forever, but I think that's because he is stoned and being very maticulous. Another bonus to this place is it's likely to have an open pool table or one opening up soon. Always great tunes playin on the jukebox .Oh and a huge beer selection. I guess the only downsides would be it's pretty smoky, and you may have to wait for the owner to show up and help out the helpless other server who doesn't know how to multitask very well and may turn your food request down. VERY Rare however.

There are those rare establishments that truly believe "We Reserve The Right to Treat You Like Crap." PATEOFTU has shown this to be their shining motto. Not only was the insipid, dreadfully lethargic bartender a pitiful escuse to drink here, ( Yes, he seemed put out that I wanted him to rise off his plastic chair of a throne to expend the calories to pull down the tap handle ) but it's stench. My brother was on the verge of ravenousness so he decided to order a Gardenburger and was told that this monumental request could not be done. He just said "I can't." So my brother starved which I'm sure makes the OLCC giddy like a school girl. In conclusion, the moral of the story is: If you want a beer, you might get one . But dont come hungry, you'll just get the finger.

Pros: I Left.

Cons: Service

Past the unassuming exterior lies a large multi-tiered barroom in split ranch levels that doubles as your great uncles rumpus room. I was there on a Friday night and the place was comfortably full with good sorts hanging out and being mellow. Decent tap of about 10 to 12, 4 pool tables, 2 automated plastic dart boards, 1 Golden Tee 2003. 1 T.V. behind the bar, limited view. Limited munchies menu. All reasonably priced. Lots of seating, for large and small groups.

This unassuming little place tucked into Southeast Portland is the perfect spot for escaping the scene. Full of Reed students and laid-back hippie types, its completely casual and friendly. It's easier to score a pool table here than at most places.
