Back at Fenouil this Wednesday. Started in the bar for happy hour and had the free Pork Cheek in honor of the Chef's nomination as best chef.

For dinner I had the pork belly with kale and duck egg, beet soup, and the New York served with crushed potatoes which are like a wedge french fry with a mashed potato center, they were incredible. For dessert, meyer lime pannacotta. Best meal in months!

Never have had a bad service experience at Fenouil and this time was no exception. Julie took excellent care of us.

I noticed the prices had dropped since the last time I was in which was a nice surprise. Prices are very affordable now. I'll be back more often.

BEST FOOD, SERVICE & AMBIANCE IN TOWN. We love the sophisticated feeling of this restaurant.

Let me start out by saying we love Fenouil anyway but the new menu that is just out is the best yet. We love the new seconds that were added to the menu and the new lower price points of the entrees allowed us to order more food and try several dishes.

We started dinner with the soup of the day and the heirloom beat salad, seconds were the delicious croquettes and the amazing tortellini and for our entree we had the pork shoulder and the New York steak. We HIGHLY recommend everything we dined on.

Because it was a special birthday dinner, we ordered desserts which were the perfect size (not too much) and most amazing!

We ALWAYS book our dinner reservation for table #17 which is the private corner of restaurant next to the fireplace and the windows overlooking Jamison Square Park and the city scape!

In our opinion.....Fenouil is the BEST in Portland and the service is unbeatable. Be sure to ask for Elisabeth and if Ginger, the manager, is available say hello to her!

We'd give this restaurant 100 stars if they were available on this review forum!

Went there for happy hour. Obviously the host, server and bartender resented us bothering them.

Went to Fenoiul - looking forward to a good dinner. Meal was ruined by the total lack of service. The server forgot to bring the second glass of wine, forgot to bring bread when asked, and forgot to put in our dessert order - after waiting 30 minutes for dessert we had to ask where it was - and even after we asked it took another 15 minutes to get it. She also got one of the dessert orders wrong. Dinner took over 2 hours. Will never go there again.

What happened, Fenouil used to be a nice local brasserie with an affordable menu with a great location.
The menu is now very expensive (most of the entrees are mid to high $30.) The portions and the service does not justify the high prices.
The Old spaghetti Factory owners need to realize that a high priced restaurant can not do well in this economy.

Maybe they should stay with the pasta concept and stay away from buying restaurants and try to turn then into something that nobody really wants.
Maybe running real restaurants is not for them. As I understand they never open something successful, but just run the dad company.
Too bad!

I took my girlfriend to Fenouil for her bithday. It was an anazing look resturant in an good location but that was it! I didnt eat all day and expected an good meal. We got our menu and everything sounds amazing. the arevage price was about 20 to 30 dollars per meal. I was ok with that it was for my girlfriends birthday. I order the duck and she order the scallops. The duck was extreamly small sitting under some lil purple beans. it was maybe 3inch long and 2inch wide that was it!!!!! and hers has 3 tiny little scallops and some other lil tiny things cant even make out what they are. I was disappointed! we ate our food and left still hungry! we had to stop some where after to get more food. its not worth it. i spend 130 including tip. I will never go back there again.

I took my wife and in-laws to Fenouil for dinner to celebrate Mother's day. The food was OK. I was disappointed to find out that they had hired a new head chef (according to the maitre d') and they no longer served the fantastic Paella that they used to have on the menu. They don't do it off menu either. So I ordered the closest thing on the current menu (Coquilles Po?l?e) which was nothing to write home about. There were three (yes, only 3) seared scallops for $29 and some undercooked squid and white beans. It was good but not nearly enough food for $29. My father in law ordered the soft shell crab special which too was undersized. Further the massive plate on which it was served made the crab look tiny.

Needless to say, I won't be going back. Our total bill for four people was $210 and two of us left still hungry. There are other restaurants in Portland with much better value for dollar. For example, the Tabla three course meal with wine pairings can be had for roughly the same money and no one will be hungry afterward.

I was very excited to come to Fenouil. It was in an great location and it was for my birthday. We arrive and was standing around for 15 mins before anyone had approch us. The hostess did not seem very friendly and did not even say hello or hi. She simply just said how many. We told her how many and she walked us to our table and just walked away. We were like ok? Whats her problem. Seriously we should of left! Then maybe about 15 mins later the server came and she seems nice and said sorry about the wait. That she didn't know that we were sitted. Seriously they were not busy. There was many 3 other tables that had people in it. How can they miss us. We order our food and it took maybe 35 to 40 mins before the food came out. And when it did come out nothing came out right for my friends nor mine. The duck that i order was bloody red and cold. So I returned it and when it came back it was almost burned. I was not happy at all. 200 dollars later we came out and was still hungry!

So looked up on internet to find the best brunch in Portland and it came up with Fenouli in downtown Portland @ 32.00 per person. It?s Mother?s day so we get the in-laws together and go to brunch for a very disappointing meal. When we arrived for our 11:00 reservations we sat waiting for about 30min. It was a 3 course brunch & you had Varity of choices. We all started with the petite French toast, it came out oozing with raw egg in the middle. The head waitress seen this and took from us all 8 and we sat waiting for another 20 min for it to be replaced. The flavor was good, but again nothing to brag about considering it is suppose to be the best brunch in Portland. After our first course we sat and waited for 20-30 min for our second course to come. The waiter came to our table saying he forgot what my daughter ordered for her second course. Fine we cleared that up! As we sat again waiting for our 3rd course another 20-30 min he approached the table saying he lost our ticket and needed everyone?s 3rd course choice again. At this point I was done! It had taken so long between courses and sitting so long one of our guests had to be somewhere else and had to leave in between the 2nd and 3rd course. I would not return to Fenouli, we were very disappointed not only from the service but as for the flavor of food. It is not the best brunch in Portland and do not understand how it was recommended to be.

My male friend treated his three girl friends for dinner. We ordered four appetizers, four entr?es, three desserts, and half-dozen drinks. Everything was delicious. Our waitress was excellent! She was very nice and attentive.

The only down side was the old man who refilled our water was rude, and does not know the etiquette of taking plates away from the table. His arm was in front of my face to take something away, and didn't say "pardon me, miss." or whatever. One time when he refilled our water, the bottom of the canter was inside of my drink! I alerted my waitress, and she was pounced on the situation and got us a new drink.

Regardless, the food was delicious, our waitress was great. I would recommend Fenouil, but I would inform them of the grumpy old server man. However, I must say a younger server was really great and polite. Just say away from that grumpy old man.

Our brunch was even cold but the service left little to be desired.

This was after a fantastic dinner some weeks earlier.

We thought we would give it one more try. We were disappointed because the burgers were uncooked and had to be sent back. My wife's potatoes were cold while our friend's mussels were barely luke warm.

The food is great when served properly but they do have a difficult time making that happen.

I love French cuisine and am always excited to try the best portland has to offer in this vien of culinary tradition. When I went to Fenouil I was expecting great food. I got slightly less then that. Three of us ordered the French onion soup, but to my dismay it was rather plain, and overloaded with gruyere cheese and not even fully melted. Each of us actually had to take cheese out of the bowl and put it to the side. I ordered the paella. IT WAS DRY! The saffron rice was undercooked (I felt like I needed a drink of water after each bite) and there was no seafood chorizo broth! Just dry seafood. The seafood was good and I loved the chorizo. Last but not least, the pomme frits with truffle oil. The frits themselves were very thin to the point that the fry was pure crunch with no moist potato obn the inside. Moreover the truffle flavor was barely noticeable. It was like oily chips. No good. However to be fair both of my friends enjoyed their meals, grilled shrimp with harrisa aioloi, beef stew, and a smoked salmon app. Although I might try it again, I would be hesitant.

we went to Fenuoil for my friends birthday and had a large party. we ended up being being short a few guest and the waistress made it clear she wasn't happy about it. My friend tried lightening the mood and said " I'm so sorry we are short some guests but I promise we will leave a huge tip " the waitress replies " ya." and stomps off. Then when she came back she over heard me say " wow we should complain to her manager." and she walked up and said " ya I was mad before and now not so ... what fdo you guys want to eat?" to make a really long and blah blah blah BS that came from the restraunt shorter, I'll say this , if your thinking about a cute chic formal dinner with friends don't go here. You will feel to scared to speak above library level and if you tell them you don't eat meat it doesn't matter your food is cooked in viel fat.

I come down from Seattle regularly and would never miss lunch at Fenouil, It is always perfect. I enjoy going by myself and sit inside, by the window, and really treat myself. The service is perfect and so is the ambiance and I never feel odd being alone. And the food is incredible. Wish I lived in Portland !

Wow. What a great place!

My girlfriends and I were a little worried that this place would be stuffy, as some reviewers have noted. Boy, were they wrong. Sarah, our bartender, was prompt and friendly. Our server, Elizabeth, was knowledgeable and offered great suggestions. The food was amazing - the Chef even accommodated my food allergies (wheat and dairy). When the bill came, we were impressed that it didn't cost nearly as much as we had expected.

I'm going to bring my husband for their Sunday brunch. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

This is my new favorite place.

I have been a part of the service industry for many years, and my fiance are new to the Pearl District. We live about a block away from Fenouil and I have to say, the experience that we had was nothing but top notch. As a younger couple sometimes we are treated differently at fine dining establishments, but we were treated with the upmost respect. We sat outside at dusk and enjoyed the Chefs Tasting Menu. It was wonderful. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting or local to the area! Come and enjoy a wonderful experience!!

My girlfriends and I had never been to Fenouil but since it was a nice night out, we thought we would try it for our first time. As soon as we walked in we had to wait about 10 minutes before we were even greeted. Being one who use to work in the dinning business I took a look around to see if they were slammed but they didn't seem to busy being that it was only 6 o'clock and their service starts at 5.. we should have left right then
yet, once we were seated we were saved by the warm and welcoming attitude of our server Westman if I remember his name correctly. Many times through out the meal we wanted to leave because of the up tight feeling coming from others dinning and working around us ..the only thing that kept us from getting up from our diner was our server!

so words to the wise, if you are going to be making a night out of Fenouil even after reading these reviews your best bet is to go with Westman as your server !

My friends and I attended Fenouil's regional dinner last Sunday and it was incredible! For $41 (includes wine) you are served between 6-7 pre set courses brought to the table family style. Everyone is seated at large tables together so it is a great opportunity to chat up the person next to you. It was a very leisurely dinner - we were there about 3 hours - but well worth it! The dinners are once a month and I believe are the last Sunday of the month. check their website for dates and menus.

After recommendations from friends, I decided to try Fenouil for dinner. Beautiful ambience. Very cozy and comfortable. A lot of money was put into this place. Food was very good as well. I loved the scallops. Service was acceptable, but this is the problem I had with this restaurant in general; There was a noticeable tension in the room coming from a lot of the staff. Everyone seemed stiff, uptight. Smiles far and few between, seemed forced and insincere. Our server, in particular, smiled like it was painful. Seemed stressed out. And then another individual, who I assume is a manager, I felt had a total lack of professionalizm. On multiple occasions, I witnessed her talking down and just being flat out rude to her staff. Her stress management seemed minimal, and her negative attitude clearly affects her staff. I couldn't help but wonder, if my friend and I had noticed this, how many other customers noticed the same things?
Ultimately, the above just made the experience uncomfortable. Perhaps it was just an off night? I'll never know. But I will say Fenouil's staff needs relax a bit, especially aforementioned members of management that are oblivious to people around them, customers AND staff.

I had high expectations coming into Fenouil and they met everyone. It was Valentines so it was an important dinner that they made special. The food was great but what made the dinner so great was the service. I have never had such good service. If the price is something that might turn you off I would reconsider, it is worth every penny. I would recommend the grilled ribeye, I've paid more for less.

We had lunch at Fenouil in their gorgeous dining room. There are two fireplaces and the decor is just lovely. There is also a spacious outdoor patio area to dine when the weather is nice. I had the Butter Lettuces Salad and the Salmon for my entree, everything was wonderful.

Amazing Sunday brunch. Hand made, French pastries come with every breakfast. From duck hash to traditional eggs, etc., this is our absolute Sunday bunch favorite. Very elegant interior with multiple fireplaces.

Wonderful service and great food. The thing is that being in portland we have so many amazing options I would consider playing the field a bit if you like this place. Certainly worth trying out, but I have had better. Location was too whitewashed for me.

Best of both worlds. I've been to this restaurant on Christmas Eve...sat upstairs with a beautiful view of the Christmas tree in Jamison Park. We went all out! Champagne, several courses, AND the dessert sampler. All said and done for 3 people we were in a little over $275. Expensive....but that night...we got EVERY PENNY'S worth. Nowadays...I don't have quite so much to spend, but Fenouil is still one of my top choices for what I call my "traveling dinner". I go to Fenouil and have Salade de Laitue with butter lettuce, hearts of palm and manchego cheese and (who am I kidding? I don't speak French!)...the French Fries with truffle oil. They are to DIE FOR! Sometimes, I'll order whatever the soup is because it is ALWAYS amazing. But the boyfriend and I share the salad and french fries and have sparking water and get out of there for less than $9.00/pp. I know, they probably won't want to hear that....but I'm telling you...you get an AMAZING salad...and yummy fries for a great price. I always sit outside and sometimes there is a great accordian player on one of the benches. This place is a homerun for me. Finally, I jump the free trolley and go to 23rd for dessert at Papa Haydn's. $8.00 split again! $4/pp. HOMERUN! I know I probably sound cheap....but I consider it smart...and it's 1/2 the calories.

Cons: can't think of any.

I have been itching to go to Fenouil for a long time. When I got my hair cut at a nearby salon in the Pearl, I saw the outside and was immeadiately impressed. I didn't see the sign of the name, however, so I couldn't ask my Portland friends who may have eaten there.

A few months later, I am with a friend at Art in the Pearl, meeting at Jamison Square. I mention to her I love the look of the restaurant and she says she has been there, and likes it. She suggests we go there to eat, but I feel a little under dressed and unprepared for such a fancy looking place.

We get in on a Saturday around 4, and go to the bar. Our bartender comes to us right away, and we are informed it is happy hour. My friend tells me what she has eaten on the list, and suggests some things. We go for the three cheeses, french fries and grilled asparagus. We also order a white wine selection for 5 bucks.

We get bread right away, and see some of the wait staff carrying in fresh loaves to the back. We keep commenting on how fast our water keeps getting filled (which is my general gauge of how good the service is). The food arrives, and it is delicious. I especially loved the dipping sauce with the fries. We ordered 2 helpings! The presentation of the cheeses was so beautiful, I took a picture!

The wait staff, like I said was very attentive. Our bartender was funny, and everyone was super friendly. Not at all what I expected from the looks of the restaurant. Nobody snobby, very down-to-earth. I've been told the dining side might be a little different. It was one of the best dining experiences I've had in Portland---and I love to eat many places! And since we were at Happy Hour for the most part (we stayed 4-8) we each ended up paying 22 bucks! Not bad for a 5-star place.

Just thought I would join so I could write this review...I'm still thinking about the food and planning when to go back :) I think it would be awesome for a date--it's a beautiful romantic setting!

My girlfriend and I went to Fenouil last week and sat on the patio on the bar side. It didn't seem super busy but service was s-l-o-w. It took a very long time to get our drinks, and on a hot day, seemed excruciating. We ordered the cheese plate and luckily for us, we know cheese, since it was placed without and being told what we were getting. The cheeses were not all that great, and had been in the heat too long. The fennel cracker was completely over-powering with the fennel seeds and was not a great compliment to the cheese, thank goodness a busser came along a offered bread. Our waiter was friendly, however, for the stature of restaurant, could have used a brush through her hair. I had a decent time, I wouldn't rush back, but if I ended up there again, that would be okay.

Cons: slow service

I admittedly had reservations about "classing it up" at this Pearl establishment but from the moment my wife and I sat down our server Elisabeth made us feel right at home and there was no looking back. We were there on a beautiful summer evening and the atmosphere on the patio was ideal. The food was good enough to help me forget the dent the meal would put in my checking account. The lobster beignets were the highlight of the myriad of small plates we feasted on. Just watching the elaborate creations roll out of the kitchen was more then entertaining.

I lived in Paris for six months in 2003 and my meal at Fenouil brought me back. The profiteroles were even better than I remembered. I recommend a pastis on the patio to complete the experience.

Best meal I have had in Portland. Celebrated 2nd anniversary with my bf. Delicious salmon appetizer. Great Halibut. Service was great from the moment we walked in the door (warm, friendly, knowledgeable). Wine list was impressive and we had a couple of the flights which were fun.

My husband and I went into Fenouil on Saturday night for our first time. When we first walked in the door we were greeted by a hostess who seemed to act as if she were speaking down to the other girls working with her and we felt uncomfortable, yet proceeded to our table (as reading some of the other reviews on this restaurant before we dined there, I am assuming this is the same "Pearl Attitude" that one lady has mentioned- it was not a good first impression for the restaurant).
On another note, our server was wonderful and was very helpful with the wines and always made sure that we did not feel forgotten about. The food was ok, yet not as great as we had hoped it to be. Yet the apple crisp for dessert was amazing. (the only thing about the meal that we felt really stuck out) Overall, we had a nice night, yet the same feeling of the staff not working well together throughout the restaurant seemed to be a big problem there. We might give it another chance, maybe the lunch there is not so demanding but we will not recommend this restaurant to our friends.

My husband and I recently moved to the area and decided to try out one of the restaurants near by. Fenouil was our first pick since we've walked by it so many times, and it always catches our eye. I have to say it was definitely a great choice. As soon as we stepped in the door, we were treated exceptionally. The service was prompt and friendly, our waiter was very helpful in choosing our wine, and we never felt ignored or rushed. Our meals were also amazing, they came out at the perfect time, and tasted wonderful. I usually have trouble finding restaurants that I am dying to go back to, but everything here was perfect. The entire atmosphere was exceptional and I can guarantee that we will be returning on a regular basis. This is the first time that I have written a review before, but I was so impressed that I had to give credit where credit is due.

Pros: Over all experience

.

We were a party of four, one of whom was on crutches. We made our reservations via open table and asked that we be seated at a table that would be easy for her to get to. And they did. That made the evening much more enjoyable. As for the food, it was terrific - everything. The ambience was great with the fireplace and stone facade in the dining room. It really did remind me of dinners I have had in Paris. YMMV, but we really enjoyed it and would definitely go back.

We've been twice to Fenouil and both times the experience was wonderful. When you walk in, the atmosphere is immediately calming -- it is subdued and elegant. The menu and food make your mouth sing -- we've had delightful cocktails, great appetizers and delicious entrees each time (have yet to try dessert). Our wait staff have been knowledgeable, polite, and appropriately helpful. Even though this is a French restaurant on the high side from a price standpoint, you don't get a stuffy feeling at all -- rather you get the impression someone has thought about every detail and wants the diners to have a complete dining experience, where every part is friendly, relaxing and delicious. As an added benefit, it's reasonably quiet -- not noisy like so many "trendy" restaurants who's performance and/or dining experience is inconsistent with their reputation. So far, Fenouil has been consistenty wonderful and has become my new favorite restaurant in Portland.; in fact I'm writing this review because I came to look up its phone number for another reservation.

I took my partner to Fenouil for birthday dinner on a Friday night. We had reservations and were seated promptly, and with courtesy. The waiter was friendly, spoke French and tried to accomodate us. The Rothschild Merlot blend was fantastic, as was my partner's French beer. The problem, then? Our appetizer, a canard terrine, was terrible. The "grilled bread" was actually pure carbon. The meaty mixture smelled very unappetizing and made my stomach turn. I expected perhaps this was just too "gamy" a dish for my liking. Our entrees were also a disappointment, however. My partner ordered the Wild Boar Medallions, with bone Marrow, while I chose the Short Ribs on a bed of Brussel Sprouts and something else. I disliked the flavor of the Medallions, and my partner, attempting to be gracious, commented little. I felt the short ribs were nothing special, rather fatty, and not all that tasty. What a disappointment for a Friday night birthday surprise. I would not, and have not recommended the restaurant, as a result. Our friends who are visiting from France next summer, will not be taken there for dinner. Is this place slipping, or is my experience just not written about often?

Went here for a weekday lunch and was seated promptly, and was greeted by a very courteous staff. The duck was simply amazing, however, the risotto was very undercooked. We sent it back, and received the same dish; for all I know they left it on a warmer and then returned it to us 5 minutes later. Will try for dinner in the future, but will not order the risotto again.

I am generally reticent to dine out in French restaurants do to my extensive travels and dining experience on the continent, but Fenouil managed to exceed my expectations for food and service. This was a really exciting find for me. The duck is excellent, and they serve Dom Perignon by the glass.

My wife and I ate here for New Years Eve and loved it. We?ve eaten at Fenouil in the past and have always enjoyed our meals; especially in the summer overlooking the park. As for our NYE dinner, we had the special and we?re able to sample all the entree?s except the pheasant. The entire meal was perfect, I don?t have one complaint.

I've eaten several times here, but 2 weeks ago went there with two friends at 11:30 to see if we could have lunch. The restaurant (both levels) was COMPLETELY empty, and when we asked if we could have a table for 3 at noon, we got a curt "Hold on - let me check". After looking at her book, the hostess replied "We can seat you at 1PM" in an equally curt manner. No "I know this sounds crazy, but we're actually booked until 1" or anything remotely friendly or empathetic. Just plain rudeness, or as a local shopkeeper called it when we told her the story, "Pearl attitude". I have chosen this restaurant in the past for my local college alumnae lunches as well as for personal occasions, but will surely not do so again.

My fiance and I went to Fenouil to celebrate our engagement last Saturday, and being our first experience with a French restaurant we were thoroughly pleased. The food, atmosphere and staff were all fantastic. I had the Magret de Canard Roti et son Oeuf (roasted duck breast. poached duck egg. toasted brioche. clementine hollandaise. escarole). The flavors complimented each other nicely and had me raving all night. For an appetizer I had the Beignets de Langouste (lobster beignets. pastis aioli. arugula) which was my least favorite item of the evening, but tasty nonetheless. My fiance had the Steak Frites aux Echalottes (grilled ?Cascade Natural? ribeye steak. confit shallots. pommes frites) with a side of Gratin Dauphinois (au gratin potato. blue cheese. cream) and broccolini. She found all of them excellent. She was a little disappointed in the French Onion Soup being a bit heavy on the cheese. Our table was upstairs overlooking the kitchen, which made the night even more romantic and memorable. Overall, we had a great experience at Fenouil and wanted to share our thanks with the staff. Hopefully we'll be back soon.

Cons: A bit expensive once you've ordered wine, appetizers and dessert - but all worth it.

I have a very fussy palate and not a lot of money, but if you enjoy a really fine gustatory experince, Fenouil is well worth the price. I used to be in the wine business and have had the opportunity to taste the finest wines and some really spectacular meals. Although it has been many years since I have dined at the famed Four Seasons in NYC, I can honestly say that the food quality at Fenouil is in the same catagory.

My daughter treated me to a special birthday dinner in August. I had been craving sweetbreads, but had not seen them on a menu in quite some time. After perusing the Fenouil website, I noticed that Chef Pascal invited diners to email him with any questions or requests. I did. He was incredibly gracious and promised me sweetbreads with a week's notice. He delivered admirably. They were lightly sauteed and accompanied by lucious ripe figs and a wine reduction sauce (if I remember correctly). We started our meal with escargots which were, without doubt, the best I have ever tasted. There was also a lovely small complimentary appitizer which included a fig and cheese. Delicious! When we were having trouble deciding on a wine, our delightful and knowledgeable server, Lucinda, arranged for us to taste three. We decided the $16 glass was worth the splurge. For desert we shared the twin souffles. To die for! Because it was my birthday, Pascal also sent over a tray of small tasty truffles. Bravo to the side of asparagus as well. We had regular coffee, which in Portland I have found to be generally awful. Not so at Fenouil. I have read some reviews that indicated the service was not good, not so in our case. Lucinda was charming, knowledgeable and attentive, even posing with us for a picture. We're trying the bistro today and I will again use the very reasonable ($5) valet parking. I can't wait. I might add, we ate outside with a lovely view of children playing in the fountain at Jamison Park. Pascal and Lucinda, we love you.

On September 15, I held a surprise birthday party for my mother at your restaurant. I flew from Atlanta and had only seen your website, but was so pleased when I arrived in town and saw it with my own eyes. Thanks to the assistance of the event planner and the excellent pasty chef, all details were taken care of in advance and I had nothing to worry about. I felt at ease as I arrived and our server mentioned that the cake was waiting; I never even had to ask. The hostesses assisted me in helping keep the surprise; even noting that the group my mother was arriving with would be under a different name (the reservation was under mine but that would have given it away) and letting us know that she was there so we could be ready. Even though it was a busy Saturday night, we never felt that the staff had too much going on or couldn't make everything happen for us. They were so gracious in accommodating what ended up being a group whose number changed several times due to illness and travel delays, and I never felt that things were not taken care of or that sense of unease you get when the staff isn't really "on the ball".

Our server, Westman, was incredible. He made sure we had what we needed without being too invasive. We waited for half an hour for her to arrive and he kept us watered and breaded without making us feel like we should be ordering something. A delightful amuse bouche welcomed all the guests, another lovely touch. Throughout the meal, he was so attentive to everyone's needs and everyone who assisted him was just as courteous and wonderfully aloof. When the cake made an appearance, we were all thrilled. It was a masterpiece, and was exactly what I had asked for. We never had to ask for a cake server, an extra dish, or more water. Everyone was so on top of it. In addition, we all enjoyed what we ordered and send our compliments to the chef! I highly recommend Fenouil for any occasion!

Pros: Staff, quality of food and service, ambience

Cons: None

.

Fenouil has fantastic service and great food. Rarely does any restaurant meet my expectations. Have the scallops and the escargot, down them with some white burgundy. Save room for dessert they have a banging creme brulee.

Pros: scallops, waiters who care if you're happy

Cons: B&T's crowding it up on the weekends

I just moved to town from Boston. I had heard good things about the food scene here and wanted my first meal out to be great. My neighbor said to check out Fenouil, and I'm glad they did. Everything was perfect. Nice view. Elegant decor and service. Soup to nuts delicious food. Glad to be in Portland.
