We had heard so many good things about the Children's Program, and had recieved numerous recommendations from our various providers that this was the place to go if you have an autistic child in need of counseling, that we actually changed insurance carriers to one which covered this provider, and then went through the process to get our son assigned to a doctor there (the one we'd heard such good things about). My initial impression of this doctor was that he was very disinterested, literally yawning and spacing off during many of our visits. Then things started getting really weird. He started getting really harsh with my son (who is autistic), raising his voice to a near yell at my son, repeatedly instructing him to "Look at me." when he was talking. Our son, being autistic, had marked difficulty maintaining eye contact, he tried so hard but simply could not sustain the eye contact. This was met with seemingly deep frustration on the part of the doctor. When I finally voiced me concern that I considered his approach to be ineffective (in fact counter productive) he informed us that he'd done all he could do, and that he didn't see any value in continuing.

Overall, I felt this doctor was horrible. This experience left such a bad taste that my son was very distrustful of doctors for many years until he recently experienced one who was genuinely caring. I have dealt with autism specialists for 12 years now and this doctor is by far the worst example of an "Specialist" in autism. Parents of autistic children beware. Please do not let him bully or abuse your child and try to convince you that he knows best. My son is thriving, is now mainstreaming in public high school and pulling a 3.75 GPA. No thanks to this doctor. Just be watchful and let your intuition guide you. Maybe we were just the exceptions, but it was a really bad experience for us.
