I searched the internet trying to find a good place to bring my Honda in for a maintenance service. I was not comfortable bringing it to the place where I get my oil changed (it's not Jiffy Lube but another shop) so after reading reviews (and the negative ones which seemed a little too odd - maybe competition?) I brought mine to Canyon Auto Repair.

I called yesterday and told them what I needed to have done with my car. They told me exactly what I needed and how much I should expect to pay. I dropped my car off this morning, was told it would take a couple hours to be done and I was on my way. Sure enough a couple hours later and my car was ready to go. The price was the EXACT price I was told on the phone which is great and other shops can really learn from this. I also showed the guy a short list of things that the other shop (the place I get my oil changed) said I had to get. He said everything looked good and it wasn't needed just yet. This was a relief for sure!

I will definitely bring my car back in the future!

Finding a quality mechanic is never easy and seldom enjoyable. For those of you on a quest for a new mechanic, this is a shop you should avoid.

I took my old truck in for an issue I created. I broke a bolt off in the engine block putting on the fuel pump and didn't have the tools nor the patients to fix it myself. I called around, read reviews, and settled on this shop. They quoted me some rough numbers on the phone before bringing it in and sounded like they knew what they were doing for a fair price.

So the adventure began. I gave them a list of four things I knew were an issue but the number one thing I needed done was to fix the broken bolt and get it running smoothly. Week and a half later they called me back all proud letting me know they had looked the truck over and had a bunch of things they could fix. The total to fix it all... about $2500+. Their prices for each item seemed very high so I told them thank you but no, just fix what I asked you to fix. Disappointed, they agreed and said they would call when it was ready. When they called, I went down to pick it up. The issue was fixed and it was running great they assured me. I went out to start it and it wouldn't start. "Oh that's right, its out of gas" they tell me. I looked at them blankly expecting them to hurry off to correct said problem. No, I had to push to get them to put gas in it. I brought it in with gas and I expected to drive it home with some. Wasn't asking for a full tank or anything, just a couple gallons. Try as they might they weren't able to get gas in it (another story and it played to circus music). The guy finally hands me a gas can and tells me to get the gas. Talk about lack of customer service. I went home, got my own gas can and drove back and put in the gas. Wouldn't start. After 30mins of trying to start it on my own with no help from them I marched back in and told them I want it to run and won't take it back until it's running.

Five days later I get a call telling me it's ready. They found a problem with the carburetor and want to rebuild it. He assures me this will be my cure all and it will run like a champ. How much I ask.. $350. I called a couple reputable carb shops and they can do it for $125. No thanks I tell them but is it drivable in the state it's in now? You bet. we cleaned out the gas lines and its running just fine. The carb rebuild was to fix a "flat spot off idle".

Second quest to pick up the truck. Sure it starts but it was hardly drivable. At this point a shop that takes pride in their work would have been embarrassed and done whatever they could to help out. Not this place. They let me borrow a couple tools and let me try to fix it myself while they went back inside their shop to get out of the rain. The fuel filter was so full of junk from them "cleaning out the gas line" that the carb wasn't getting gas. I was able to clean it out, get the truck running and nurse it home popping and sputtering the whole way.

Where am I now? Out close to $600 with a truck that still is not drivable. My warning to all. Research better than I did and learn from my mistake. If you need brakes done, go to a break shop, carb work, go to a carb shop, etc. Maybe they know how to change oil or windshield washer fluid but not much else. I will let everyone I know, this is not a place to take your vehicle. They were slow, extremely high priced, and have no concept of customer service. Lesson learned.

I took my 99' VW New Beetle in to Canyon because of the reviews that I read on City Search, and I was not dissapointed. I didn't catch the guys name at the front that I dealt with the whole time, but he was so friendly and listened in detail to what the issue was I was having with my car. After they diagnosed my car, he detailed all of the issues, and went over all of the costs. He also broke down, in order, of what was most important to get fixed. For me, being a woman who doesn't know a ton about cars, it is nice to have someone who had the patience to answer all of my questions honestly and to treat me with respect. He reconized my name everytime I called and was able to talk to me like a human, not like money going into the companies pocket. I appreciate the honesty, patience, and what I feel cost friendly service I recieved. I read pretty much all of the reviews out there, and as far as all of the good ones go, I agree. They were great, and I recommend these guys highly.

I needed to have someone get under the car to reattach a protective shield beneath the pasenger side's front suspension support. Just a few bolts and clips, but the job was immediately performed despite a full garage.
No waiting necessary. Replaced an engine mount found in need of attention. They drove to the car dealership for the part and were through with everything in less than an hour...with no advanced notice at all. The BEST customer service I've ever received in 60 years!

I wrecked my Acura TL while sliding down a hill in the unpredictable snow storm last december. I had mechanical and body damage done to my car. I choose Canyon Auto Repair because of it's glowing reviews...and when I spoke with Lee the owner, he assured me he would give me a "brand new car back". My insurance company was very pleased as well because they have worked with Lee in the past. Anytime I called to check on the car I spoke with Lee or Rick the manager. They were always very good about keeping me updated about the repairs. They made a horrific situation much easier as they advocated for me with my insurance company concerning the repairs. I do feel like I have a new car. Excellent shop from start to finish. Thank you so much Lee and Rick.

I found these guys a year ago when my car busted some hoses. I called them almost a year later when I wanted my alternator replaced, and their quote was less than it would have cost me to buy and install the part myself.

They've stuck to their quotes both times; and to top it off they actually remembered me from my first visit.

I've definitely found my auto shop.

My Volvo was having a problem with the wipers and I had been told by other shops it was a wiring harness problem that Volvos were famous for and would cost more than the car was worth. I go t the feeling they just did not want to work on my car (maybe they did not know how?) Lee assured me he could fix the car. When I arrived the first thing I saw was another car like mine in the shop and that made me feel better. In less than a day and for only $90 my wipers were working. Made a believer out of me.

for items under the hood, they can do an reasonable job. for other things, try somewhere else.

took my car there for miscellaneous body work. they not only did *not* correctly repair *any* of the items, they totally ignored my information on what 2 of the items needed. had they at least checked them out, i'd not have spent hundreds of dollars on bogus work.

as well, the operator of this place seems to be a tad moody. and there seems to be a communication problem with the shop floor staff.

i have no doubt the operator knows a lot about cars. this place is just not worth the trouble.

I have to admit it: I hate seeing Lee and Canyon Auto. It's through no fault of their own however. Most of the basic periodic maintenance I do is by oil/ tire shops so when I go to Canyon auto it's because something bad happened to my Pathfinder.

With that said, I have had nothing but stellar service from Canyon auto. The prices are low. When I moved to Portland, I needed to find a permanent mechanic so I did prices checks on the several shops when I needed to get DEQ ready. Canyon Auto's were lower; in fact they didn't charge me for the inspection like the other two shops wanted to do.

As far as service is concerned, despite how busy they get, they kept me informed each time I had work done. They also understand that without a car, its difficult to get back to the mechanic shop so (since I live close) they even gave me a ride to/from the house. They also understand that to have a job, people need to go to work, because of that little known fact, they also are open weekends and after 5 PM. This alone makes them better than most auto shops.

Finally, everything they fixed has never had to be returned for rework.

The only place I will take my truck is Canyon Auto.

They also understand that to have a job, people need to go to work, because of that little known fact, they also are open weekends and after 5 PM. This alone makes them better than most auto shops.

Finally, everything they fixed has never had to be returned for rework.

The only place I will take my truck is Canyon Auto.

Pros: Price, Service, Quality

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

.

you have to know cars to see if you get the best deal or needed repairs. Lee is very good at sales pitch and played down dealer pricing and other shops. also CHECK CHECK CHECK the repair before leaving...Second opinions from other shops is definately needed if you're not sure what wrong with your cars or required repairs

I bought a 1990 Volvo 740 GLE to be my winter car, the tags were expired and my main goal was to get it to pass DEQ. It was loud and needed some exhaust repair and what ever else to pass DEQ so I took it to Meineke (The one in Beaverton on TV HWY just west of cedar hills blvd), they did some exhaust work and screwed it up! it wouldn't idle right and the check engine light was on. I took the car back and the manager argued with me and said they made the car better . My car failed DEQ emissions and smoke after Meineke supposedly repaired it.
Anyway I was fed up with those Meineke liars and took my car to Canyon Auto Repair. They told me exactly what I needed and how much it would cost and that they would test the car to make sure it will pass DEQ. When I got my car back it ran GREAT! and I took it to DEQ and it passed with flying colors. The staff at Canyon Auto repair are courteous and friendly and I'll defiantly recommend them to my friends and will be bringing my Volvo to them for repair from now on :)

I've taken my Ford Explorer and VW Beetle in for both service and maintenance and in all cases have gotten excellent service. I have found Lee to be honest in his dealigns and his prices to be well below what others charge in the area. I have recommended this shop to my friends and they've had similar experiences.

I heartily endorse Canyon Auto Repair. We take both of our vehicles there and always receive great service. I had some small items and they didn't even charge me for them. They are very accurate on their estimates and the work is always done right. They have the diagnostic tools to work on any type of car. Lee & Rick are great to talk to and always answer my questions right away and with a great attitude. I have the utmost confidence in their abilities and trust them with our vehicles. It is hard to find honest mechanics, so I am glad I found them.

We paid $1000 for a routine tune up & front brakes on a Jeep Truck. The end result? We were out $1000 bucks and the truck had problems it had never had before... It actually had trouble starting & would putter at times. Wasn't doing that before - seems a bit odd right?

I had another mechanic look at it (since I don't know a thing about cars). He said if we paid for a tune up, he wasn't sure what we got for it. After we paid the new mechanic to give it ANOTHER tune-up, it ran like it was supposed to.

We also had Canyon Auto take a look at a "clanking" noise that the truck made when you turned right or left. They told us the transmission was going out. When we took it to the new mechanic, they replaced the fluid in the transfer case & the "clanking" went away. Not a transmission problem...

My recommendation - do not go to these guys. Just like the reviewer below said... they're clever...

Lee and Rick and all the staff at Canyon Auto Repair deserve a huge thank you from this customer. Though very busy, they have always made time for quick and accurate diagnosis of my car problems. I have been in for several cars and Lee and Rick fixed me right up, always performing the work while I waited. Try that at a dealer... Often, if it's a small thing, they have even done work for me at no charge, again, try that at a dealer. I have also had semi-major work done at Canyon, and the estimates are always to the penny. I have no problem recommending CAR (Canyon Auto Repair) to anyone needing mechanical service. They also use NEW, OEM parts, as Lee will tell you, rebuilds are simply not an option. So in summary, from oil changes to complete engine rebuilds and body work, CAR is the shop you can trust.

What a stand up repair shop! In an era when most are concerned with cutting corners and making the biggest profit with the littlest effort, it is refreshing to see a company adhere to good morals and integrity. Please allow me to explain. Just recently I had taken my car into Meineke to have a tune up, oil change and replace an AC belt. A couple days later, the belt that was replaced snapped, throwing off my alternator belt simultaneously and leaving me and my car stranded. To make a long story short, Meineke attempted to cover their insufficient mechanical skills by saying the problems was not the belt but a deeper issue within my car. Without my authorizing it, Meineke had stripped apart half my engine and left it in pieces when I said I didn?t want them to repair it. In talking with those at Meineke, I have never been treated so poorly and had to deal with so much nonsense, I will be reporting them for potential fraud and at the very least incompetence. After talking with Lee and Rick at Canyon Auto, they agreed to look at it (no charge) to see what the real issue was. They were able to get me in that day, were super nice and knowledgeable (a change from what I am use to). They had my car ready to go the next day and as it turns out, nothing was wrong with my car (except for the fact that it was halfway taken apart). Canyon Auto has quick, excellent service and is more focused on the customer, not its pocket book. I will take my car to no other mechanic in the greater Portland area. They are the real deal and I am thankful to have found them.

To be fair, we had used Lee twice before were pleased with the work. (3 yrs ago) Took used car in for inspection, told by Lee it had many problems, but $1300 of work (91 Toyota) would enable it to run for 3-5 years. Basically, overhauling an old but dependable car...not unusual for a Toyota. Broke down 1 week after work (was running when 1st went in), while over 50 miles from home. Towed in (no AAA...$$$) for second round. This time supposedly needed $800 worth of work, but was promised 'that was it' and would be great from there. Lamented with choice, but figured it was cheaper than another used car, had repairs made. Took much longer than promised, car ran worse than before. Was told it was a regulator, should have been OK now, but the new one must be faulty so they replaced again. Did some extra work as a "bonus" (changed air filter, cleaned fuel injectors, etc.) and since Lee was not around, Rick made us feel like that was something to be appreciated. While I would have, I would much rather have a running car (I can change my own air filter, thank you) Who do I believe?? Lee - (after initial $1300 work and used car inspection) - "Great car, will run 3-5 years now if you take care of it" or 2nd in charge Rick "Well worn car, air leaks, compression problems, what do you expect with a car so old?" - Well, I tell you what I expect. I expect you would have told us that on the first go around, not after THREE separate trips in, and no final solution to the problem. Called to politey discuss situation as car gets worse and was told, "We told you so!" No they did not & the fact that they print their diagnoses and have you sign paperwork before you leave says a lot. Car sputtered home, was in tears, this was all our money. $2500 later feel cheated, lied to, neglected, written off as "old car" even though we were assured this would all be remedied. Will take legal action, no longer offer good service. Note only positive reviews listed on their website.

Pros: 3 years ago, one of the best places we had ever used, decent prices, easy to work with, took time to explain things

Cons: Now, long wait to talk, always on phone, very busy with other customers, forgotten more than once, unwillingness to honor warranty or fix initial problems, very curt from beginning

We just moved here from out of state. This shop was recommended to us. Our Chevy Tahoe needed repair to the air conditioning. We could have had it done in California for under $500. Unfortunately we ran out of time and had it done here in Beaverton at Canyon Auto Repair. When we picked up the truck the bill was $3500. We could not believe it! We will never use this shop again. We have three cars and we were looking for a good mechanic. To bad for him he just lost a potential long term customer.
IN RESPONSE TO YOUR COMMENT TO US. I don't know why it was such a surprise that we were upset. When we picked up the Chevy, it was very obvious we were alarmed while viewing our bill. Funny no one came out to discuss it then. Its only when a customer posts a negative comment online that your concerned Customer Service Department takes an interest. I wonder why that is. I WONDER HOW MANY OF THESE NEW POSTS ARE THE REAL DEAL. IT SEEMS AFTER POSTING A NEGATIVE COMMENT SHOP IS TRYING TO BOMBARD THIS SITE WITH POSITIVE COMMENTS.
Ok so here it is July of 2009, 11 months after Lee "repaired" our Tahoe. We payed him to resurface the brake rotors and install new pads. Just found out that the pads have already worn down and had another shop look at what Lee had done. We found out that he had not resurfaced the rotors and had installed the pads over the warped rotors. I called him to ask for a refund his response was the F bomb and to hire a lawyer. This guy is a very dishonest. I will be reporting him to the consumer watch group.

My overall experience with this establishment has been pleasant~

Rick is very professional and respectful. Lee, on the other hand, always seemed like he was way way too busy for a young girl- even if she was spending lots of money on their service.
The work I had done, to the best of my knowledge, was comparitively cheap and well-done. I had taken in my car to have it looked over and have them tell me what I needed fixed. The day after I got my car back, though, there was a coolant explosion all over my engine which they did not take any fault for, eventhough nothing like that had ever happened to my car but I was told by an outside source that it probably not their fault anyways... Cheap fix, not a big deal.

All of the work I had done was done extremely quickly- I even returned to have them look over the new vehicle I'm buying to tell me if anything was wrong with it. They found two small leaks and a dent which they gave me estimates on and I took it back to the dealership to have it all fixed.

I'm going to pick up my car this afternoon and called Rick, again, to see if they would take a look at the repairs to make sure they were done well. He said that someone would look at it free of charge- which I really appreciate (especially after all the money I've been spending on cars lately!!)

I will for sure be returning to Canyon Auto Repair.

If there was anything that I would suggest as an improvement for this establishment- it would be take the time to be a little more thorough with your customer service. A little bit of time spent listening goes a very long way.

I have a 2002 Mazda Protege 5 that ended up needing a catalytic converter and when I found out how much the price was to have it fixed through the Mazda dealership I could not have afforded it. I then began to call a couple of places which were in the same ballpark if not higher. I then talked with my husband who told me that we should go through Canyon Auto Repair where he has been getting work done on his dodge Dakota. My husband called them and they were able to get the part even earlier then what the dealership had told me. He also let me leave my car there until the part came in he got the part on a Tuesday and within hours my car was ready to go. The best part was the bill through them vs. the dealership was $500 dollars less. They were very nice and courteous. This was the best car repair service I have ever had. I am definitely going there from now on as well as recommending it to all my family and friends.
