I like this place. I think the shrimp pasta could use some work, but everything else I've had has been very good . The drinks are nice and strong, and they have a pretty good beer selection. Kudos for not putting in a TV and for letting

Cozy Spot. We have enjoyed meeting family and friends at Sckavones. The inviting room, friendly staff & comfort food make it a cozy spot for us. Our favorites are the hummus plate, meatloaf and salads.

The incident described below occurred because the group involved showed up with 45 - 50 people at dinner time instead of the 20 they referenced when the called. We had explained on the phone that we could only handle a group that size.

Do not give your money to this establishment. We made a reservation and children and families were refused at the door. To make it worse the manager was very rude and did not try to apologize or be accommodating.

All we wanted was ice

We've had one so-so experience, three or four great experiences! Good food, good price. Service has been hit and miss, but again, mostly good. Ironically the worst service we had followed a discussion in the car about whether or not bad

I love this place! They have great salads and some really wonderful breakfast items. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is chill. I take people here all the time because we never have to wait long and I know they will like their food. Try their chicken and beet salad, it is the best!

Pros: Great food, breakfast served all day

Cons: outside seating fills up fast

.

Family friendly, good food, menu is somewhat skewed towards hearty/ fried foods, but there are some good salads and vegetarian sandwiches. The beet salad, without the chicken, is a fav of mine.

We have been here numerous times. even my very picky east coast dad loved it.

the wait staff is extremely friendly. I love looking at their pictures of the place when it was an ice cream parlor and pharmacy.

i had the 3 cheese ravioli with fresh basil and chicken. the dish was somewhat unusual in that at bottom of the bowl the sauce had a more liquid consistency, as opposed to a thick creamy sauce. but this made for excellent dipping with the garlic bread that came with the entree. it was well worth the 11 or so dollars it cost.

we also had an order of fish and chips. the fish and chips were quite good- the fish was not overly battered and the oil was fresh. the included side order of slaw was a bit volumetrically challenged, but it did taste good.

the fresh brewed decaf coffee was ok. the beer was ok too.

service was friendly and helpful.

the atmosphere was good.

good delight to price ratio.

We love this restaurant! It is one of those local hidden gems in a funky little neighborhood with great food, great ambience, and a great staff. The food is excellent, as vegetarians, we love to substitute a garden patty for any of the burger choices. We recently had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding held there and the owner was beyond accommodating and the staff was perfectly attentive. Everyone loved the food so much, the wine was flowing, and it was a mellow, wonderful place where people could actually talk and have a good time. It has a very laid-back Portland vibe with a history. We recommend it totally-for a bite to eat on a relaxing date night as well as the perfect venue for a group event. And the prices can't be beat.

Great food, at amazing prices. Some of the high lights on the menu for us were the Bacon Cheddar Fries, Pork Loin Chop, and the Sirloin Steak. Oh and almost forgot about the incredible Baked Mac and Cheese. We think this place is a great value and a great piece of east side dinning out culture.

I'll be honest, I live within spitting distance and I love anything close by, and I've only ever gotten the chicken strips, fish n chips and dee-wait for it-lightful milkshakes!! BUT this is truly a gem. Great friendly staff, nice menu that I've seen, but I am a die hard for my fried food. But seriously the milkshakes - real ice cream mmmh! OH- and they use environmentally-friendly biodegradable plastic take out bags, that earns 100 stars in my book! The meat isn't organic but they only use 100% veggie oil- non-hydrogenated. Check them out! I know I'll be back to check out the rest of the menu.

Pros: chiken strips, fish n chips, milkshakes

Cons: no free delivery service to my couch sigh..

I picked this place from citysearch reviews and it was spot on. Wonderful food. I had a turkey sandwich and my husband got fish and chips. Both were great, but the fish was the best either of us have had in a long time. I also tried their Vodka Italian Soda...which was very good. Wait staff kept coming by to check on us, but were not intrusive. I wish we lived closer, because it would be my neighborhood joint. Great for adults, but still kid-friendly. The only minus is that it was 95 degrees outside and their A/C wasn't working.

Love, love, love that I'm lucky enough to be so close to this place. The food has become much more consistent than when I first started frequenting, and I have always had an overall positive experience there. The pork loin is a wonderful entree. The meatloaf is like a dream! The brunch is totally radical with hearty corned beef hash as a personal favorite. The fish n chips are some of the best I've had, ever. The drinks are usually not worth buying, unless you figure out which waitress/bartender is the master. I'd pass otherwise. Oh, and did I mention that there are MILKSHAKES!!! Great variety, friendly service, and comfortable spacious booths make this neighborhood cafe/soda shop a total winner.

Honestly, people -- eat at Sckavone's. If you're like me, you're tired of over-hyped restaurants that empty your wallet without filling your stomach. Which is you'll love Sckavone's like I do. My wife and I have been going here regularly since they opened (we live 2 blocks away) and we have never been disappointed. Nothing fancy -- just normal food, deliciously prepared at a decent price. I'm a burger guy, and I think they have one of the best in town (1/2 pounder!).

Pros: good food and good portions; friendly waitresses w/ good taste in music

Cons: only 3 beers on tap; no deal on burgers at happy hour

.

My boyfriend and I have eaten here several times recently alone as well as with our 3 yr old son, this place is as conducive to a date as it is a family dinner.
The menu is as clean and simple as the diner itself.
We have enjoyed sunday morning 11:00am breakfast with no wait whatsoever. Their coffee is excellent and the breakfast portions are absolutely perfect. For dinner my boyfriend had a fancier pasta while I enjoyed a sandwich both were wonderful.
Their mixed drinks are yummy and only $4 bucks at happy hour.
Good music is always playing and the wait staff is just the right amount of friendly. my only fear with this place is that once the word gets out it will become a pretentious hipster scene like so many other great diners around pdx.

Don't let the past guide you, as this "neighborhood restaurant" is just that-casual, friendly, not too expensive and everyone in the neighborhood can enjoy this unpretentious spot. The bar is really cool because it's oval shape allows conversation between everyone at the bar, not just the blokes on either side of you. The wait staff is very nice, and the owner is extremely chatty and witty.
This isn't a "5-star" restaurant, so don't expect perfect everything every time. Be glad though that you won't have horrendous holdups when waiting in line to get in on a Sunday, or sitting down and waiting for your food.
Big - actually HUGE comfy booths, lots of windows, and high ceilings make this place roomy, but the decor makes it feel cozy as well. In my opinion the ambience is perfect...makes you want to have just one more beer or ice cream float!

My husband and I met three other couples at Sckavone's on a Saturday night. We enjoyed the atmosphere and customer service. We ordered several items on the menu and we were all pleased with the food. The favorites included the meatloaf, fish & chips and salmon special. We look forward to returning.

This place seems to finally be working out the kinks a few months after it's opening. The food is very tasty and suprisingly affordable. The service is lacking some charm and knowledge at times, although sometimes it seems there is only one server when most seats are full. Overall it's nice to go to a great neighborhood place to get great food and a couple of drinks for around twenty bucks.

The boyfriend and I went here for lunch and it was delicious! Seeking comfort food on this cold & rainy day, I ordered the sausage scramble with veggie-sausage and my date had the pastrami sandwich with clam chowder. Rarely do you get veggie sausage scramble (and at 1:30 in the afternoon!) so I was thrilled. The potatoes were tasty & my date said that was one of the best pastrami sandwiches he's ever had. The coffee was surprisingly good. Our server was the only one working, and as a result we had to wait a bit for menus and for our check, but she was also very friendly and nice once our order was in & she had time to chat. My only criticisms are that there weren't very many vegetarian options, and the ladies room smelled like a hamster cage.

We were very happy when Sckavone's opened since it is very close to our house. All of the meals we have eaten here have been excellent. I love their Autumn Pasta, the bacon, vegetables, fettuccine and cheese tossed with a little olive oil, allow the flavors of each ingredient to come through without it the dish being too heavy. I think my favorite item is their Apple Caramel Sunday. The crust on the apple pie is wonderful and of course who would not love caramel and ice cream topping the pie served in a sundae dish. Service is always friendly and wiling to help with special orders. Good value for the cost.
