Holstein House seems like such a good deal, initially: it's fairly low-budget, the grounds (minus some tacky old-ladyish garden decor) are lovely, and the lady seems perfectly fine at first. You book your date and wait, full of excitement

I decided to rent from the Holstein House a year before my wedding and paid six months prior to the event actually happening. I thought everything was going to be great. I thought Bonnie was the sweetest and now I know it was just an act. The week of the wedding she was throwing fits right and left. Over simple things. For example, where to put a stage and if my food tables could be placed outside under tents that were supposed to be included in the rental. I got my way on the stage, but after that Bonnie wouldn??t even smile or talk to me. She promised she would help with the drinks and during the reception my mom had to go knock on her door and ask her if she was going to help after they had run dry during the reception. The water is her property and my mom didn??t know how to refill the containers. Otherwise she would have just done it. My family pulled my wedding off. If I was a bride thinking Bonnie would have done all that she promised my wedding would have flopped. Thanks to my family it was perfect!!
The worst fit was when I was driving for my wedding to the venue I noticed that there wasn??t any signs except a very small one said Sublime Thyme Garden. And if you have looked into the rental you would know that signs are included and are suppose to be placed out the day of by the Holstein House crew. I arrived at the sight and asked to Bonnie about the signs. I wasn??t some crazy bride either; I was totally relaxed until Bonnie started throwing fits. Bonnie simply walked away from me without an answer. So my sister went and asked if she was going to place another one out and Bonnie snapped, ??I sent her an update about the name change so it??s her issue!? Thank goodness to my family went and placed a sign out with the name Holstein House which was the name when I rented it! And was on all my invitations! Was I suppose to send a second invite saying, ??Hey you??re going to get confused by my first invitation with the directions to the Holstein house because the changed the name of the location.? Honestly! Invites cost $$!

Now she has doubled her prices for nothing, but an ugly building added to the rental. Trust me not worth your stress, money, and there??s a lot more out there for your dollar! Plus, you??ll be taken care of with respect!

Pros: Did do the flowers

Cons: Everything else

.

Getting married at Holstein House Gardens was such an amazing experience~ I would give them more stars, if I could. We had run of the grounds for the entire week, which allowed us to hold our rehearsal, start setting up early, and doing clean-up the day after the ceremony. Bonny even planted a couple flowers at my request and started some wheat grass to use in the centerpieces. How many places would take the time to do that?? I bought a few specific flowers for my bouquet, but my entire floral budget ended up being $86. Amazing, right?

Bonny was also on the case behind the scenes. I didn't have to worry about many of the details, and I got to enjoy the moment without worry. We got some breathtaking shots in the neighboring field at sunset, and we really enjoyed the beautiful evening lighting throughout the grounds. After the rehearsal and during the reception, John even brought out firewood for the firepit. How many brides get to enjoy a fresh s'more after the rehearsal dinner and a fireside bonding experience with her guests? I did! And it was a fantastic experience. I've been to a lot of weddings, but this was unique and fun, and a great time for all.

Pros: Gorgeous surroundings, use of venue all week long

Cons: Maybe not for super high-maintenance types?

In the years I have spent decorating and planning weddings I have never worked with such a stress-inducing and unprofessional venue owner/coordinator. 1. She did not help with set-up or tear-down and did not want to let us move her unattractive dcor and furniture. 2. The only wedding dcor she had available was Christmas lights, tulle, and fake flowers. 3. The cut flowers she promised us were denied and we were forced to buy and arrange our own flowers. 4. She yelled at the bride for starting the ceremony 10 minutes late and proceeded to take off her coordinator smock, quit, locked herself in her house, and left the ceremony and reception to us. 5. She started to take apart the cake table and dcor and loudly reprimanded us during the reception in front of shocked guests for using the wrong table. Instead of talking about the beautiful wedding and happy couple, guests discussed the terrible owner. Please choose a different venue that values flexibility and customer satisfaction.

Pros: Nice plantings

Cons: The owner/coordinator

.

I've been a decorator/coordinator for the past 10 years and played a role in a recent wedding held at the Holstein House. Not once in my career have I witnessed so much unnecessary stress placed on the wedding party and their family, with the majority of it being caused by Bonnie, The owner/coordinator of the facility. There big selling point is that it is an all inclusive venue (flowers, decorating, set up, clean up, etc) with the primary goal of "keeping the stress down for the bride and mothers". I would have to say that this goal was left out for this particular wedding. Weeks before we had asked which flowers we could use and how many, come the day of rehearsal/set up it was as if we had never talked, we had limited use of flowers (to the point that we had to buy our own and bring them in adding expense). Then we had asked her to trim up the rose trees that line the isle for the ceremony (there was only 4 in question) they were misshapen and covered in dead brown blossoms, she flat out told us no. It would be to much work for her. Her job was having the grounds nice for the wedding. Keep in mind these would be in most of the pictures as they were saying their vows and walking down the isle. Also note she had no other responsibility taking up her time since the decor and set up and flowers were taken care of by others. The day of the wedding, 5 minutes past the time the bride should be walking down the isle, the bride was having issues with her dress (these things happen). Instead of trying to help with the situation, Bonnie made it worse. To say the least she acted unprofessional and unpleasant, and did not hold up her end of the agreement.
