Tonight was our first experience at Thong Thai, even though we live in the neighborhood - there are a couple of other Thai restaurants we have frequented and simply never got around to it. What a mistake!

Their pad thai is very good. Not

Was searching for Thai in Tigard and the reviews on citysearch were positive enough to chech out Thong Thai. Well, the reviews were pretty much right on. On 99W near 217, its a rather unformidable location, but its totally worth stopping for. Food was good, but then I've rarely had bad Thai food in Portland. Prices were very reasonable, portions healthy, but the attitude of the staff was outstanding. Here's a family business relying on word-of-mouth. They made us feel very welcome, even though we came in just before closing time. My Thai red curry was great. I was able to order it "pretty spicy", and that's what I got. We will definitely return, but we also took a to-go/delivery menu.. YES, they deliver! This place is great.

Thong Thai is located in a strip mall in the space formerly occupied by a decent sit-down Mexican place. I arrived one day to have my fix of 'fat chips' and salsa, home made tortillas and chile relleno, but the restaurant had vanished. It used to be there... between that Thai place and radio shack... I drove back and forth a couple times before it sank in: It BECAME the Thai place.

Overall, it's a pretty standard low to mid-range Thai place, but in this area of town, this is some seriously exotic fair. Pad thai is slightly wetter than I prefer but still tasty, this goes for all their noodle dishes. The curries are good and soups are quite good. I'd say they are slightly above average overall, Thai food-wise. It's a lot more personal tasting and feeling than the Thai Orchid up the street, and amazingly, it's not a chain restaurant, unlike 90% of the surrounding food options. To top it off, the staff is incredibly generous and friendly, and very welcoming to young children, which is refreshing.

If you live in the area, you won't do much better at any restaurant close by. Recommended!

I would not recommend this place at all. We were there about a month ago for dinner. We ordered Thai Beef Salad -- which the chef there used some out of bottle dressing, instead of making from scratch with Lime juice, fish sauce....etc . IT was really BAD. Not Thai food at all.
However, the owners and wait staff are really friendly -- the typical Thai hospitality. But definetly sub standard Thai food. Try Singha Thai in Lake Oswego for the real good deal.

Pros: Easy parking. Friendly staff.

Cons: Not Thai food . Go there if you like beef with brocolli, kung po chix...type of Panda Express food.

Ok, my husband and I visit Thong Thai at least once a week. It is the best thai food around, that is for sure! We eat thai all the time and had high hopes when this restaurant opened. They have exceeded our expectations. The service is the freindliest you will ever find. How refreshing to have owners who actually appreciate your business! It is definately the freshest and best overall thai dining experience in the Portland area, and that says alot.

We've been going to Thong Thai since the first month it opened and its the best! When you ask for it extra spicy they make it extra spicy. Its a mom and pop shop with really friendly people and you can't beat the lunch prices. Even the guy cooking came out to ask us how we liked it last time. Its great "to go" or to eat in the restaurant. My fav is the Pad Kee Mao extra spicy and their spring rolls.

This mom and pop operation serves the meanest ANYTHING Thai around. We go 1-2 times per week, and even the kids love it. The Pra-Ram is a dynamite dish, and the Thai Iced Tea is the most refreshing beverage I've ever enjoyed. The owners are extremely friendly, even willing to teach you a little Thai :) The wait staff is very attentive, friendly, and fast. I cannot get over how good this restaurant is. It truly serves all of your senses, and when you walk out the door it is with a smile on your face and a VERY satisfied palate.

Pros: Thumbs & toes up!

Cons: Nothing, well, maybe that we can't eat out EVERY day!

Thai Orchid used to be my favorite nearby thai restaurant, Thong thai kicks it's butt! Especially for the middle of the road price it's well worth a trip, don't let the strip mall location fool you.

ps. pad thai is not their best dish and is arguable better at some other places, HOWEVER, there is still a lot of good food on the menu and it's hands down the best Thai food in the area.
