First of all, it's really nice that Java is right off the max line. It makes it easily accessible for someone like me... a poor college student, always taking public transportation.

When you walk into Java Nation, you're immediately greeted by the sweet aroma of coffee. It's got a laid back cozy feel to the shop. All the people who work there are friendly, attentive, and will patiently wait for you to order. They really care about the quality of their food, beverages, and service. They will typically ask you what your preferences are on how your beverages are made, which is awesome, because I love my drinks on the sweet side.

They don't just make good coffee either, they also serve Italian sodas, chi tea, and tea. They are all good, but I do not recommend the hot chocolate. The food is wonderful. I love the almond croissant! It is the most delicious pastry they have there! Many people know how good it is too, so if you come after the morning rush, you're not likely to have the pleasure of enjoying that pastry.

Then when you're ready to sit down, and enjoy your beverage and or food, there is a lot of selection of seating. They have plush couches, arm chairs, big tables, and small ones too... to accommodate any preferences you may have or even small to large groups of people. It's so cool to be able to kick back on the couch with your lap top, enjoying your food and drink, as you surf the net using their free WIFI. Talk about comfort!

The thing I love most though, is the art work. There are murals all over the walls, and they support local artists by changing pictures and paintings on the wall, to give them more exposure.

So, if you're looking for a really good experience along with really good coffee and food, this is the place to go!

Pros: location, beverages, food

Cons: music (based on preference)

For me, it's all about the coffee, and these guys always get it right. They take all the extra care in pulling espresso shots, steaming milk, etc. to make each drink a pleasure to enjoy. Nobody I know (on the west side of Portland at least) comes close. Don't expect to get your drink right away - these things take time.

It's one of the old Coffee People locations, and it has kept all that anti-corporate vibe - funky, interesting artwork on the walls, communal bathroom, an eclectic mix of customers, and a friendly crew that comfortably hangs out and keeps the drinks coming - all in a nondescript strip mall off Canyon Road.

java nation has a friendly staff. the place has a great neighborhood feel. it's locally owned and has good coffee. they also are one of the last shops that still have punch-cards for free coffee for regular customers.

I love Java Nation!! This is my favorite place to get coffee.

Java Nation is basically Coffee People with a different name. I live in SW Portland and drive to Beaverton about once a week just to get coffee here. I used to get coffee here all the time when I worked in Beaverton. I've never tried their food/pastries but their coffee is excellent.

They are not pretentious as many coffee shops are. Baristas are friendly and the environment is very comfortable and relaxing. Baristas remember you after a few visits. You should check out the murals on the walls.

I can't recommend this place enough. I absolutely love it! I would choose them over any coffee shop.

Java Nation used to be Coffee People and is one of the shops that was sold. I understand some of the employees got together and bought this store. All the great Coffee People drinks are still there and just as good as before. Sometimes the pastries are stale, so if you're getting "take out", check it before you leave.
