The good points: They have an awesome selection of everything you'd love for your pup, from basic necessities to spoiling them with rediculous amounts of love. When it comes to all things made for spoiling dogs, they've nailed it. What dropped it one star: The price is quite high, but I believe it's a bit understandable, afterall it is cannon beach- everything is priced a bit high. What made a potential 4star a 1star- The (older) owner. I went there with my 5 month old puppy (black lab pointer mix) looking for a new harness collar, I had left his harness collar at home and he was at the time learning how to not lead. When I met the mother owner (it's a mother daughter business) Ive never before met a completely judgemental witch in my life. 1st- she judged me. She lectured me on walking my dog without a harness, telling me I was choking him and said I needed to be trained if my dog was ever going to grow up proper. I was so offended. Obviously I knew I needed a different collar- THAT'S THE FIRST THING I SAID WHEN I GOT THRERE- I'm not ignorant, and I had my dog trained on sit, stay, come, and down in the first week I got him when he was 3 months old. He was completely potty trained by the time he was 5 months old. I lived next to a dog park then, and I know I am a perfectly fine dog owner with a wonderful puppy- we received compliments on his behavior all the time. 2nd- she judged my dog. She grabbed my unsuspecting pup (without asking me first and without even greeting him or introducing herself to him) and tried to force a harness on him to see if it was the right one. WTF who does that?! My pup was extremely caught off guard and afraid of her. He ran between my legs. Then she went to grab him again!!! What an idiot! My pup growled at her when she went to grab him. She glared at my dog, and with the most judgemental rude eyes and voice ever, asked what he was mixed with. I'm sure she was hinting at whether he was a pit mix or not because he has a white stripe down his chest. He's not, but even if he was, I couldn't believe her behavior. She then went on to tell me that my dog has SERIOUS anger issues and will be violent if they are not in check. SO FAR FROM THE TRUTH!!! My pup lived at the dog park from the momment I get him until a year later when we moved. He licks my friends babies face, and lets her toddler pull his tail. He greets everyone with a kiss. He's never, and I mean NEVER growled at anyone other than this pompous witch. For the rest of my time at the store, she refused to even look at my puppy, and LITERALLY stuck her nose in the air, walking around as though we showed up with dog sh!t on our shoes. The whole visit was made aweful- She acts like she is an authority in all things dogs when she is neither a neighborhood volunteer, animal rescuer, veteranarian, or liscenced trainer. She needs to stick to what she IS experienced in- and that is PURELY AND SOLELY dog retail, and should stop giving her unsolicited, untruthful, judgemental and biased oppinion. She is not a dog lover, she is a toy and fuzzy living accessory lover. If you have a toy dog you can hold in your arms and a fat wallet, then this store is great for you.
I discovered Puppy Love By The Sea last summer on a trip to Cannon Beach with my dog. Cannon Beach is a dog-friendly town and this shop makes it even better! They have many products that aren't available at bigger shops, and we got my dog his favorite toy (a squeaky octopus) here. The staff was very welcoming! Prices were good.
This might seem strange they my family loves to go here since we do not even have a dog, but it was so much fun for the kids to look around and dream. The prices looked great, much better than some of the "larger" pet stores. The staff was super nice and did mind us looking around and wishing.
This shop is a favorite for my dog, Zoe and me. We have introduced it to other dogs and their owners while visiting the Oregon Coast. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They have a great and unique selection of products for canines, many breed specific. Among my favorite purchases is a Cairn Terrier night light.
You can't compare the experience of shopping here with a PetSmart. It is so much fun to explore this boutique in Cannon Beach! The owner/manager is so helpful in making recommendations of dog collars, leashes, and anything you are interested in buying and will give a very honest and informed opinion. They have a good selection. There are a lot of practical things to purchase for your dog as well as some fun, frivolous finds such as dog sweaters. Dogs are definitely welcome inside and they usually get a treat and a long drink of water at this store. This place seems reasonably priced for what is offered and I'd rather have this personal service than shop in a megastore where I end up wasting a lot of money on things that don't work for my dog.
