The Salon is awesome! Top notch! Totally pro! I have about 20 friends that all tan there and not one of them has a bad thing to say about them. Most of the reviews on here sound more like buyers remorse or not being able to understand a contract!

Note: City Search is a scam! They allow businesses to pay them to remove bad reviews! It's not a real review process! Before you put any real weight into what they have for reviews, check out he the "Paid Ads" on the site and you will start to notice that people who advertise with them all have stellar customer reviews! Come on folks! This whole site is a joke...a very profitable joke!

My son when to the Canby SunsUp to tan for one month since he is heading to Jamaica.

He paid them $40 in cash to tan for 1 month. After signing the papers, they asked for his bank account number. Knowing that I had advised him to never give that out other than to an employer or to pay for a bill, he refused. They in turn then refused to give him a pass to tan. He then asked for his money back, which they denied saying it was too late, he already signed the papers so the money was theirs, yet he could NOT tan until he gave them his bank account number.

He went back to that business 2x's to try to get his money back OR to tan. Both was denied. Talk about extortion for a persons bank account number.

My sister works for a state supreme court justice. She told me that businesses ( especially in hard times like now) have been doing that more and more in order to take money from people illegitimately. I have NO doubt had my son given them his account number, they would have deducted money from his account monthly even though he was not no longer tanning there.

They refunded his money after he told him he was filing a complaint with the Oregon Consumer Protection Agency.

Oregon Consumer Protection Agency link to file a complaint:

My sister also said that if people don't file complaints, that shady businesses will continue to rip people off.

I hate Sunsup Tanning. A little over a year ago I wanted to start tanning again. It had been 10 years since I had, so I went in to Sunsup, not ever hearing anything about the place. I signed up for a 1 year contract so that I could get the most of my $. Every time I would go in to tan, I was bombarded with the employees trying to push me to buy more, whether it was product or a more expensive bed. Not only was I barely getting a tan, but I started to feel anxiety whenever I was about to go tanning because I didn't want to deal with the pushy salesman. I finally stopped going after dealing with their pushiness after 7 months. I just thought that I would wait until my 12 month mark so that I could go in and cancel. I went in a couple weeks before my 12 months and they said I couldn't cancel my membership until a certain date. So then I went in to cancel on the date that they told me. When I went to cancel my membership, they acted like by me coming in and telling them I am cancelling, that everything was said and done. I had no clue that I had to sign some paperwork. Also, they said that they were going to charge me for another months worth because I would have had to cancel before the 1st of the month. Funny, because the first time that I went in was before the 1st of the month. My husband called corporate to dispute the extra charges, but that didn't work. They did tell him that the account was canceled though. It wasn't until a couple of months later that I noticed that they kept on charging me. I called corporate and told them my whole story. They lied about what they told my husband. They said that they told him that I had to go in and sign paperwork to cancel my acct. My husband and I are very detailed oriented and if they did tell my husband that, he would have told me to go in and sign papers. Then they said that I should have come in on this other day to cancel and that I just came in on the wrong day. Not one of their employees told me the truth about what I needed to do to cancel. Casey, at corporate, just acted like I should have know what I should have done to cancel my acct. She was extremely heartless about the whole situation. She kept on telling me that there was nothing she could do because there was no documentation proving that I came in on the days that I said that I came in. Well, that is up to the employees to document that I came in, not the customers. I guess I was able to fight enough to get one month paid back, but as far as seeing the rest of the overcharges, good luck. The whole time I was at Sunsup tanning, I would tell my friends about it and they always told me that the tanning places they go to were never as rude or pushy as the stories I would tell them. Now we can tack on, greedy and dishonest.

DON'T EVEN BOTHER WITH SUNSUP TANNING. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU, ONLY THE MONEY YOU BRING IN.

Pros: Nice decor

Cons: crappy customer service, way too pushy salesmen, $ suckers

If you want to pay 20 dollars per month for a membership to just use regular 20 min beds, then suns up is fine.

They have a 'sun dollar' point system that is really expensive. You can go to pretty much any other salon in town and pay for a month of the highest quality beds for about the same price, or even less. (You are paying 20.00 for the membership and then 80-100 dollars for the upgrade...)

I really didn't appreciate how pushy the sales people are. I have been tanning for a long time at many different salons and their lotion is extremely marked up.

My biggest issue with the salon was when I lost my bank card. I also have a membership with 24 hour fitness. When my card was stolen 24 hour fitness called me and asked for me information..... When I went into suns up I was charged a 15 dollar fee because the couldn't collect the previous months payment (I hadn't been tanning in a while, and didn't think about my account)

The sales girl was actually really sweet. She didn't think I should be charged either since a stolen wallet isn't really my fault. She tried to get by the charges and when she couldn't called the manager. The manager then informed the sales girl that it was my fault and that I needed to be on top of my accounts. What customer service! She even said to him, "well, her card was stolen, there isn't a lot she can do about it." I told him the same and that since I hadn't been tanning I didn't think about my account with suns up. I also didnt think they would charge me a 15 dollar late fee!!

I asked why I could not be telephoned or notified by mail that they could not retrieve funds from my account. He said that "just wasn't their policy." When I told him I was really unsatisfied and wanted to cancel my membership he didn't even care.

Also because I came in ONE DAY after the billing cycle I paid for that month. I cancelled my membership that day, and haven't returned.

I never had a late payment outside of this one incidence. I really feel that the manager was not flexible and obviously did not care about my business.

They seem to care about numbers, however they completely fail to realize that consumers are 5 times more likely to tell others about a negative experience rather than a positive experience.

Don't support suns up!!

Cons: pushy sales people, overpriced, rude, not understanding.

I also have been tanning many times and at many places I have never been pushed so hard to sign up for 12month membership. The sales girl would never give me a clear answer on how much money per tan is she just talked only about this points system that they have I think to confuse people . I didn't enjoy my free tan. I left after 5 minutes and in tears I might add !!!!!!!! I have never felt this was ever in my life. I paid 5 dollars for my goggles and my fun go tan experience was ruined by someone pressuring me on a membership. please don't go there A tan is supposed to be relaxing .

Pros: clean

Very obnoxious young people trying to make a sale. Every time I went in there (it is very near my house), I felt very pressured to buy a big tanning package and some overpriced lotion. When I expressed my concerns they were really pushy and I felt like I was under attack. I let my membership lapse and when I came back in was told that I had to start all over again, including big start up fees. I wanted to try the spray tan and was wasn't sure I wanted to buy the whole package. Their offer to me? $60 for 2 tans! (They told me I would have to try it twice because the first one would be spotty.) Wow, what a deal! Then they continued to throw numbers and products at me until I left. At least I didn't succumb to their pressure like I did the first time I went in there. Never again! DON'T PUT YOURSELF THROUGH THIS!

Pros: Close

Cons: Pushy and overpriced

I have been tanning years now and have never been so dissatisfied with a tanning salon. First of all the front counter is so pushy and rude that they will lie to you to make a sale or make you feel guilty for not buying their overpriced lotions. Secondly, and this is awful, the place is dirty. I noticed a used band-aid in the corner of a room and didn't say anything assuming they would notice and clean it that night. On a visit three months later i noticed the same band-aid! I expect a level of cleanliness that sunsup apparently doesn't expect from it's employees. The final straw for me was when my payment didn't go through properly due to an error on their part and they charged me a fee. No big deal, until i had to wait an hour to see a manager about it, after being told it would be 15 minutes. Then I was told it was my problem and the manager would not even let me close my account! He said he wouldn't let me make such an impulsive decision. All my friends told me not to go to sunsup. I wish I would have listened. DO NOT TAN AT THIS PLACE!!!

I went to this place with a coupon good for three tans for $33.00. I paid my $33.00 and then found out that the coupon was good for three tans in one week. Who gets three spray-on tans in one week? A person would look ridiculous with that much spray-on tan in that short amount of time. Nevertheless, I was told that I could give one of my tans to a friend so I decided to tan at the beginning of the week and at the end of the week and give one of the tans to the person who accompanied me. Well, I got my first tan using the color leverl that was recommended for me and was concerned because I barely saw any difference. I expressed my concern to the Sunsup employee and was told that my color would appear in about 4-6 hours. It didn't. I called the next day to complain and was told that I could get a credit for another tan and that I could use it the following week since my busy schedule didn't allow me to get right back in to Sunsup. When my friend and I arrived at the end of the week to use the second and third tan that the coupon promised, well, that's when things went downhill fast. This time, the manager, Harley, was behind the front desk. I inquired as to whether my first tan had been properly credited and he said that the employee who told me that I could use it the next week was new and didn't know what she was talking about. He would absolutely not let me use my credit for the following week. So basically, I received 2 tans for $33.00 instead of the 3 that I'd signed up for. He also let me know that it is up to me, when speaking to an employee, to find out if they are new and if they are knowledgable about company policies. He also informed me that my friend would not be able to share my tan package and that it was "ridiculous" that I even thought it was possible. There was a woman customer taking all of our conversation in and took my side but Harley wouldn't budge. He lost at least 2 customers (perhaps even 3 if that other woman is smart). He could have sold us tan packages and had returning customers. Instead he chose not to accomodate us at any level and was borderline rude. Not a very smart manager in this economy!

Cons: Can't trust employees

just cheating customers, all they care about is making sales and gettign more money. they train us like car salesman, we have sales workshops on how to word things to make the sale. they contradict themselves when they say that they care enough to do it right, and good customer service is what they are all about, but they push customers into buying things that, really, they dont even need. yes lotion is good when tanning, but 100 dollar bottle? yess mix up the upgrade beds with the standard, but really why such a steep price? its crazy how everything revloves around the numbers, thats all they look at...they act nice ,and say the right things, but rallly its just to get money, sure they care about tanning, but the actual stupid owner doesnt even know how to tan someone anymore, she doesnt know the prices, asks the employee, and they always complain about how your numbers are bad, and need to sell more. numbers is all sunsup is about....even the 19.88, which sounds like a good deal, is really dumb, because its their "bread and butter" and its guaranteed money for the place...because everyone tht signs up on it forgets that they are continuously paying for taning, wen they dont use it....
id tan there, but ask how often the bulbs will be changed, and remember that you dont have to buy anything from them, and remember that you can freeze your account, and not havr to pay 19.88 for ever...or just dont sign up on the membership, and pay for single tans, that way your not wasting money for nothing

You people who write this " signed up on Citysearch so I could specifically write about this terrible salon" are so bogus its unreal.

Before you read any negative reviews. PLEASE PLEASE go to Suns Up and try it for yourself.
No I do NOT work for Suns up. I have NEVER worked for suns up.
I just really really love this tanning salon and I think its dumb that other businesses are coming on here to bash this place.

How pathetic are you other businesses? Pretty pathetic I'd say!
Your business is so bad you have to put down others in the most immature way.. PATHETIC!

They seem to have some pretty unprofessional staff. Not only that but I specifically told the girl I did not want to be signed up for a year long contract commitment that I would have to pay to get out of...well come to find out that when I tried to cancel the membership (because i was unsatisfied) I'm stuck in the contract, and it's going to cost me $200 to get out. Their associate blatantly lied to me just to get her sale. Well when i tried to at least go in and suspend it (my only other option) the associates didn't know how to do it, so I yet again have to be inconvenienced and come back in so someone who does know what they are doing can actually help me. My advice if you want good service, always speak to a manager, most seem to know what's acceptable behavior when it comes to customer service.

It is very transparent that most of these reviews that are on here and bogus. It is common for competitors to write negative reviews of businesses, but this has gone too far. Please leave the fake reviews off of the City Search postings, it really ruins the entire usefulness of this site. I happen to know first hand the person/ business who has been posting these and I think its pretty miserable of them. Please consider for yourself any businesses that have negative reviews that are similar in length, typo's and references made to other businesses, before you take them to heart. - Concerned City Search User

Hmmmm is it not obvious that the only positive review is CLEARLY by someone who works at the salon?? I agree with all the comments on bad customer service. Everytime anyone walks into the salon the employees act like they are SO much better than you and because why? Their fake looking tans and True Religion jeans?? Seriously treat people with respect. One day you will grow up and grow out of tanning salon employment and learn that all people are equal whether or not they live up to your tanned standards. Get over yourselves and trust me, if the rest of us didn't have regular 8-5 jobs we would MUCH rather be basking out in the real sun than going to a tanning salon, especially if that is how we are treated.

PS, I have True Religions and a GREAT tan but I would NEVER treat people the way I've seen people treated at tanning salons.

Cons: See review

.

I have been tanning for years, and I began tanning at suns up several years ago. After reading some of the other reviews, I'm completely baffled as to where these people have been tanning. Suns up is by far the best salon I have ever been to. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous. From the first time I walked in (and got a free tan!), I knew i'd be coming back. The plans are affordable (20 bucks a month to go unlimited), especially considering the equipment they use. Sure, the sundollar program can be a little confusing, but the employees always take the time to make sure you're getting what you want. I cant think of another salon in the area that cares as much as the girls at suns up do. When I walk in, I feel like family. Try them out, and form your own opinion. I'm sure you'll love it like I do!

Pros: Beautiful knowledgable staff, spotless locations, premiere equipment and products

After reading through some of the comments people have left I felt the need the create an account on here and let you guys know the truth about SunsUp Tanning Centers. I started tanning there over a year ago and from the minute I walked into the door I felt welcomed and very comfortable around the knowledgable staff. They did not make me feel pressured or intimidated. As a student in school, I was able to afford the 19.88 per month for unlimited tanning. Forget what you heard about dropping 300 bucks just to tan there. Now, as an employee, whenever a customer walks through the door I try to give them the best experience possible..much like the one I had. At SunsUp we make it simple. No contacts, no cancellation fees, and the monthly payment is gaurenteed to NEVER change! We've just opened our 11th location in Hazel Dell so needless to say we wont be shutting out doors anytime soon. I encourage those who have taken the time to read this to stop by any of our 11 locations and check us out and see for yourself what SunsUp has to offer. =)

Like others who have reviewed Sun's Up Tanning, I signed up for City Search specifically so I could warn people about this salon. Their service was terrible. From the associate who could not explain the "sun buck" program or the types of beds they use to the corporate office that can only be reached by leaving a voice mail or sending multiple e-mails, I would not recommend this salon to my worst enemy.

Their "associate" was not able to use the computer properly, quoted me the wrong price, and then put me into to a bed that burned me so bad I missed work the next day. I then had to threaten legal action to get anyone at the corporate office to speak to me (never in person, always on e-mail). I took over 45 days to close my account and receive a refund for my unused "Sun Bucks".

Stick to ANY other salon in your area. I tried them for their convenient location, but learned the hard way to stick with people I trust and who have a good record.

Wow, what a great place. It was clean, upscale, and the staff were so nice. They toured me and made me feel at home before I even said I would start tanning there. They are all about the best service and best value. There "standard beds" were so nice, usually I see like wolf tanning beds when i hear standard, oh no not here, they are so nice with air and cd players. Once I got in a bed (without even paying a dime) I loved it, it was warm relaxing and nice to know there is a place that cleans their beds good and makes you feel at home. Then I wasnt even pressured to buy anything, though how could I not I love it there. One of the girls was just chatting away about everything they had to offer and then she was like, "but what do you want?" I couldnt believe I could get what I wanted. Just stop in, I bet you will love it!

I signed up on Citysearch so I could specifically write about this terrible salon. They have so many sneaky ways of trying to take your money. From their Sun Bucks (which you will never be able to buy a package and completely depelete it. You'll have 25 bucks and oh sad - a tan is 30. Can I pay the difference or buy 5 Sun Bucks? No - you have to buy another huge package). Also I went in to cancel my tanning there (can't do it over the phone) and you have to give 45 days notice, otherwise they will charge you TWICE! I cancelled membership 3/12, got charged on 3/18. Fine. But then I was charged again on 4/16! They said I needed to cancel by 3/1. WHY exactly? Your tanning computer system isn't that complex and there's no reason except to screw customers as to why you would need so long. Their beds are fine (oh except that time I went in the spray tan and there was no liquid actually spraying me... so they refilled it and had me try again!) but save yourself some grief and MONEY and go elsewhere.

Yeah its $20 unlimited and I have to go 6 days a week to get a tan at all! NOT a satisfied customer. I had to sign up for a contract to get a decent deal. Yeah I was happy about paying a little as possible, but then realized I had to go in so often to get results, wasting lots of $$$ on gas, time, and effort. Oh and forgot about the $$$ I had to fork over for the membership to even get the monthly :(... Plus, I was never treated that well.

Suns up is my favorite tanning salon out of the 3 i've been going to in the past. i can't even count how many times they have given me outrageous deals!!! I only have to pay about $20.00 a month for unlimited tanning. The salon is clean with a nice modern look. I highly reccommend using the Versa Spa, probably the best spray tan i have ever had! TRY IT, and SIGN UP, you will like it! =)

I moved to oregon a few months ago and the wheather had really put a damper on my moods lately. I started shopping around last week for tanning salons because some friends had told me tanning always makes them feel better, finally I found sunsup. I entered the location with no tanning knowledge what so ever. The manager at this location was so amazing!!! She gave me a tour of the entire salon and showed me all the packages, she made me feel so welcome and important, like I was the only one in the salon (even though then were numerous people there). Needless to say I signed up for this amazing package where i got unlimited tanning for 20$ a month, and I felt immediately refreshed !!! Thank you SUNSUP!!!!!

I used to tan at Town Down Under but moved over to the SW side of town and decided to try Suns up. Nice and clean salon.....good beds, but the sales people are RUDE! Very pushy. I walk in they don't even ask me how I am doing, they just say "last name" with a dull tone in their voice. When I leave they NEVER say have a good day or even a simply goodbye. They look at you with blank look on their faces when you walk in and give u a bitchy look when you walk out. Very uncomfortable feeling walking in and leaving. I would not suggest this place at all..........

I went to Suns Up and received high pressure sales from a 15 year old. Then noticed that there were membership fees every month. Why should I have to pay a membership fee to a tanning salon- maybe if there was more to offer.

I don't want a circus of spinning rip offs to Tan. I went there made a firm choice and the staff gave me straight almost unfriendly facial looks. Suggestion, reseach other tanning salons that are straight forward. They encourage nearly $200, but if you say want 8 or 10 tans...it's nearly $150 by the time you get your glasses and tanning lotion. Tanning lotion for $50! I saw no small, one time use lostion so the consumer could choose. I looked on the net and I could have purchased that product for less than $30 RETAIL, not wholesale. After signing, another person told mewhat what I lost out on by NOT paying $199. RUDE. Heavy, heavy pressure sales. ****Watch paperwork. One part say that all sales are final.****

How is a $200 joining fee a good deal for TANNING? Although they are "just doing their jobs", the employees are EXTREMELY pushy. I just want to go in, relax while and tan and leave. I do not need to pay through the nose for a tanning package and be asked to buy something else every time I enter the establishment. I do not recommend this place at all.

I just recently moved here from LA, the rainy weather is getting to me. I decided to try to get some sun at the tanning salon, hopefuly will help. After visiting few local salons, I was most impressed with Suns Up. They simply care, very infomative, they have many different selection of beds, I even got a tour and a free tan before I purchase anything. This is one place would help me through this depressing weather.

I think people shouldn't talk so horribly about Suns Up. I met they owners and they are some of the nicest people i have met anywhere. They didn't ask me to buy anything and they let me try it for free. I thin they are great, when they try to get you to buy things its for your benefit. They are not pushy at all. So they take money out of my account its one less thing i have to worry about going and paying its already done. Maybe people should open their eyes and realize how great some things are right infront of there face instead of being rude about something they havent tried. Tan at Suns Up its relaxing, friendly, and one of the nicest tanning salons i have been to.

They charge $29 for the Unlimited Tanning "membership." This is average or better price compared to most salons. Members get nice discounts on lotions and they are always running good specials. It is a nice place, and although the girls do ask you if you need any lotion, that's their JOB. Give them a break. They're only making minimum wage. Some of the girls are "Preppy," but what Tanning Salon girl ISN'T? No offense, ladies. Most of the girls that work there are really knowledgeable on what beds/lotions to use.

The BEST part about this place is Cindy, their manicurist/LMT/esthetician. She is kind of expensive, but definitely cheaper than most of the places up around NW 21st/23rd. And she does an AMAZING job. I have her do my eyebrows, and it's well worth the 15 bucks. She does this whole cleansing thing along with it, and it's so relaxing.

Extremely rude, pushy staff-- obviously commission based. The beds are ok.. but not the best out there.. This salon is very expensive, and they want you to sign a contract and have the monthly tanning fees taken out of your checking. Thats cool for my other bills like, Quest or PGE-- but tanning? Oh, they put on the hard sale too- and make you feel like a loser if you don't join.

The staff are pushy and like to pressure customers into buying products and services. They do not inform you of their 'all sales are final' policy until it's too late and they have your money. The manager denies all requests for returns without regard to reasons or good customer service. They are just interested in taking your money and show no interest in providing good customer service.
